Dinky Thanks, just a bit much to deal with atm...Don't think he's even told my Mum and bother either...that's up to him. I did what I had to do and told them, am just going to surround myself with people that do care now....

Mightbemad Don't know why I was surprised....they lived up to their usual standards....

orangebubbles I wouldn't deprive DD of a relationship with her grandparents because they don't like me....even tried to establish a relationship with her father, despite what he did to me, but he can't be bothered to maintain it.

MrsRoss26 They are never happy, I'm just going to have to get used to that....

Lizincornwall Try to make sure she sees them, despite the fact they have the money and the transport but won't come up....

I was halfway through having DD before I knew, as had had Braxton-Hicks so badly thought it was that!

AmadablamI just wish my parents reacted normally to normal life events. He was more interested in my currently at a standstill 'career' than my life...

totallyeggflipped They didn't even manage 'congratulations' when I got married to Ex_H. they behaved like it was a funeral....

Dinky I've been feeling faint and even had low blood sugar (I'm having to test 9 x a day) if I don't eat...

Hi Islander99! Waves!

cheekbyjowl did have a bump but with diabetes diet, think it must have been podge rather than baby, as I'm looking smaller!

Thinkingof4 They have been so horrible for so long, am just ignoring them and surrounding myself with nice people...

Photographerlady Just glad they are back in London and I am as far as is possible to get and remain in England!

Dinky Love the kids' name suggestions! Smile

Rosiedays Hello! Welcome! Know a lot of those problems xxx Hope you can get out and meet some new people...

flyingsprocket Thanks.... they are hard work.

Enjoy your lazy time!

Bigbelly4 I'd go for Pippi! Lucky you, those short births.... DD was about 17 hours...!

Elliejjtiny Mine seem to regard it as the end of the world and of my brilliant (haha) career. I haven't been working for 2 years with other things anyway....

Dinky Physio decided I had SPD last week...just gave me support belt and told me to go away, basically. Are there other things they can do?

Sorry for another epic post! Have decided am just going to think beautiful thoughts and ignore my family, really.

Now Dh's ex is kicking off about how his daughter with her is 'feeling excluded from the pregnancy'. She didn't seem to want to talk about it, so wasn't ramming it down her throat, basically. But that's wrong...arrrgh!

photographerlady · 11/02/2013 18:32

Orange congrats on blue ;)

iclaudius · 11/02/2013 18:46

Big belly I'm still wondering if you are near me ?? Any hints or pm me - just something you said re midwife!!

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 18:52

Orange - congrats on your boy. As a mum of 2 boys I can vouch for them being lovely.

TotallyEggFlipped · 11/02/2013 19:08

Welcome, rosie

Great news on your scan, orange. 20 week scan still seems so far away.

Well, I survived my first day back at work. Smile Thanks for all the good wishes.

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 19:08

BadmissM - haven't had physio for SPD but in addition to the belt they should advise you on moves to avoid, how best to sit and ideal sleeping positions (or at least that's what my friends with SPD have been advised on).

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 19:21

PS re DH's DD - just make it clear she is welcome to be as involved as she likes and can ask questions, see scan photos etc if she likes.

MrsMillions · 11/02/2013 19:36

Dinky has your DS2 been watching lots of Tom & Jerry? I used to love that. A colleague at work looks a but like Spike the dog, always makes me chuckle.

I have a dentist check-up tomorrow. Know it's right to go but not looking forward to having things prodding in my mouth. (If not TMI, safe to say DH hasn't had any of what Michael McIntyre might describe as a "birthday treat" for some time Wink) Teeth cleaning makes me nauseous every day...other than that I'm fine so long as I neither overeat nor get too hungry. Grr and as we don't have an NHS dentist I'll be paying for it, but at least my dentist is a woman with children so should understand.

18+4...due date 5 months today!

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 20:33

Yup, DS2 is a big Tom and Jerry fan. I used tom and jerry cartoons to bribe encourage him to potty train! I know, I only have myself to blame for his name suggestions...

Cheeseandbread · 11/02/2013 20:34

MrsMillions just giggling at your post.

Orange congratulations on having a blue bean in your belly!

Photographer I think it was you who asked about the pillows. I bought a dream genii at the weekend and am liking it (half price at Home Sense) I seem to be having trouble sleeping at the moment but the pillow helps a bit and makes me feel more supported- and also less guilty as I usually like sleeping on my tummy and the pillow props me up a bit.

Dinky I love some of your kiddies name suggestions Grin

esme80 · 11/02/2013 21:04

Went away for the weekend and taken me most of last night and today to catch up!

Dinky my dh is the star wars fan, only name suggestions he has come up with so far are luke and leia!

Badmissm sorry about the spd, I know the pain! There is a lot of info online about which movements to avoid, how to move in bed as dinky mentioned. I found my physio pretty useless, but go to a chiropractor who is amazing! I have had contnued spd after birth of ds, but will literally hobble into my appointments and walk out!

Ooo and congrats on your boy orange!

Have my scan on friday, so excited!

Spent weekend at SIL and BIL, who have two cats. I was allergic as a child but have not had problems withit in at least 10 years. But this weekend I really suffered with it. Is it something like pregnancy hornones can make you more sensitive to such things? If so, am in for a not so fun hay fever season...

Beginningofthejourney · 11/02/2013 21:12

esme my eczema seems to have flared, usually doesn't cause me any problem other than an occasional itch but I was woken last night with itching...and it's on my feet, particularly the sole of one foot which drives me mad in the day, think I'm gonna take my slipper to work tomorrow as I'm in the office all day! Don't know if its a pregnancy thing but I'm blaming everything on being pregnant at the moment!

MarieKL · 11/02/2013 21:38

Welcome to those joining us. Rosie I hope things get better from here on in. As someone else said children are definitely a good way to meet people. We moved to the other side of the country last year and having DS has made all the difference.

Totally so glad today went well

I can't remember who asked about whether or not to say you're pg at an interview but I probably would. Otherwise there will never be a good time to tell them and if you're going to work for them you'll want them to be supportive. Some organisations may find a reason not to employ you, but it only suggests you wouldn't have been that happy there anyway.

Photographerlady my experience was most breastfeeding pillows don't really work, in the beginning at least as baby is so tiny you need lots and lots to get them in the right position, so I'd focus on one that helps you sleep most and add it to the cushion pile when you come to breastfeeding! Having said that I struggled with breastfeeding and didn't really get past day three so others may have better advice!

*Orange, very exciting news. I agree with Dinky boys are absolutely lovely.

I love all the name suggestions from DC. We are still really stuck on boys names.

BadmissM and Ellie so sorry to hear about your parents reactions.

On MS mine's entirely gone now but with DS I was still being ill on a daily basis up to about 5mths so all those still suffering have my sympathy.

AmaDablam · 11/02/2013 21:59

Welcome islander, another first-timer here, and rosie, sorry to hear about your ups and downs but hope you're able to enjoy your pregnancy now and good luck with your interview.

orange congratulations on your blue bump - not that it matters but I can't remember if your DC1 is a blue or a pink?

Grin at those with funny name suggestions. Our baby was conceived on holiday in Nepal so we have had some very interesting ideas thrown at us (Kathmandu, Sherpa....) DH did actually go through a phase of wanting Tenzing as a middle name, which is a nice thought, but I'm afraid I've vetoed it! In more sensible suggestions, I love the name Rose/Rosie for a girl but unfortunately it really doesn't go with our surname.

Photographer I'm also on the look out for a good maternity pillow that can also be used for breastfeeding (which I think most of them can). I currently have the Carla Nougat one in my Amazon basket and have almost clicked "buy" a couple of times. Not sure why I'm particularly drawn to that one, maybe it's the funky animal print cover!! Seriously though I do like that it comes with a separate wedge, is slightly cheaper than the genii and one of reviews says that it's small enough to still allow room for DH in bed, which has to be a good thing! Need to get something sorted soon though - last night I sort of slept on top of a pillow under my middle section as my hip was really sore from the unaccustomed lying on it (I'm usually a back or front sleeper and have had to try really hard to wean myself onto my side). Seemed to do the trick though, and for once I didn't wake up to find I'd rolled onto my back.

Right, on that note, it appears to be my bedtime...

17+1

AmaDablam · 11/02/2013 22:09

Oh nearly forgot beginning, I really don't want to worry you but I have read that severe itching, particularly on on the soles of your feet or palms of the hands can be an indicator of something potentially serious (sorry can't remember what it is called now) and needs checking out pronto. If you suffer from eczema anyway and are pretty sure that's what it is, it's probably nothing to worry about, but it may be worth talking to your MW of GP just in case.

MightBeMad · 12/02/2013 08:34

AMA, I was going to say the same thing. The condition is called obstetric it's a condition associated with the liver where your bile salt levels build up, causing the itching. It's relatively rare though and you're a bit early in your pg to be showing symptoms (usually it manifests in the third tri) but it's worth getting checked out and keeping an eye on it. ESP as you can be given things to control the bile salt levels and help with the itch if that's what it is. No need to panic though (despite what you may read on google). Most recent thinking on the condition is that it may not actually be harmful to baby at all (which was the concern previously) and it goes away after delivery, so no long term issues for mum. Some consultants will suggest early induction though (37/38 weeks, so still full term), to be on the safe side.

There, you don't need to go googling now Wink

MightBeMad · 12/02/2013 08:35

Obstetric cholestasis - damn iPhone!! Grin

photographerlady · 12/02/2013 09:04

Happy pancake day everyone!

Seeing I have been averaging a pancake saturday/sunday since becoming pregnant I think its more of a "yay look another day in the week to eat pancakes".

Hows everyone's eating going? I still have my evils like a decaf latte a day, its a terrible habit to break but I have gotten it down to just 1 medium decaf latte daily. I like to think I back it up with only snacking on fruit. Doritos have come out of no where though, me and the dh polished off two bags in since Friday and being not a big crisp fan its was heavenly and somehow oreos made their way in and out my kitchen.

I need to put my teachers pet hat on for my new booking appointment next week at the new hospital. Need to hide my crisp and cookie shame.

bigbelly4 · 12/02/2013 09:33

iclaudius I am in Lincs, are you too? Feel frr to PM me

Re pillows - first 3 times i had a normal cheapo V pillow that was easy for pregnancy (debenhams/dunelm mill sell them) and feeding afterwards. Unfortunatly i gave it to my mum as she has bad back. So this time i have gone for the dream genii - so far so good with sleep and it does show you how to position it for feeding too. Bit more expensive but comfy and stops me rolling flat on to my tummy in sleep!

For those of you that gave me skincare advice - thank you muchly. I am biting the bullet and have gone for some Elemis normal/dry cleanser/toner - I used to use it, life before children and when i had a job! So will keep you all posted.

Can barely move today - went for a 6 mile walk on sat and my shins are killing me - pah who said exercise was good for you?! TBH think I over did it at the Gym last week, so just swimming this week!

toodle pip for now, x

MrsMillions · 12/02/2013 09:47

Ama I had been getting hip pain from sleeping on my side (vs back) too. 3 nights on from buying the Genii (sadly not at Home Sense prices) I think I've got it sussed, combining that under my body with a shaped memory foam pillow under my head - thanks DH for giving it up, I hope his neck pains don't return!

Survived the dentist. Strangely didn't feel as sick with someone else cleaning my teeth, do you think I can persuade DH to do that twice a day for 5 months Grin ?! Strange to think I'll be on mat leave next time I go, was nice not to need to book an early morning appointment.

Got an afternoon of "mum to be" training at work today. Not sure what they'll tell us that I've not already read in the policy book but beats an afternoon at my desk.

dinkystinky · 12/02/2013 09:48

Morning all. Photographerlady - a small decaf latte a day isnt too bad in the grand scheme of things - you need the calcium from the milk (particuarly in late pregnancy) and as long as you dont dump loads of sugar or syrup in it, isnt too bad at all. My eating has improved - I seem to be mostly veggie during this pregnancy, but still have a fair amount of chocolate/sweets too. Have discovered yoghurt covered dried fruit flakes which are v addictive too.

Bigbelly - ouch re your aches. Can you take a warm bath today? Should help ease those aching muscles. Also a gentle swim should help matters. Shin splints from walking are pretty rare though - may be worth checking your shoes fit properly/werent too tight (that was the issue my MIL had when she got shin splints walking - mind you she was walking sort of 20 miles to get the splints).

Still exercising though my centre of balance is changing all the time. Did body balance yesterday and am well and truly out of balance...

MightBeMad · 12/02/2013 10:16

Does anyone have any tips on exercising in the pool? It sounds crazy (you'd think I'd just swim, right?), but I have always been a die-hard breaststroke swimmer. I can backstroke, but that's not recommended in pg, nor are side stroke or fly, and I have never mastered front crawl. I can swim a mile easily breaststroke, but am shattered after a length or two in crawl, which I'm sure is because i'm just doing it wrong!

So, now I can't breaststroke due to SPD, what can I do in the pool for exercise? I tried flutter-kick legs with breaststroke arms, which is do able but also very tiring, or kicking legs and just holding on to a float with my arms, which dooesn't really feel like a ful body work out. doeos anyone have any suggestions? I figure it doesn't actually need to be swimming, it could be aqua aerobics/aqua natal type moves, but I can't find a local class or anything on the net to teach me what to do!

dinkystinky · 12/02/2013 10:32

Sorry MightbeMad - I am NOT a swimmer (can swim but hate that cold empty feeling you get when you get out of the pool) but I dont think aqua aerobics (the non-prenatal sort) would be good for you as need buoyancy device and lots of lateral movements too (did it a few times on holiday). The flutter kick legs and breaststroke arms sound best - or holding on to a float. Might it be worth investing in a couple of lessons to teach you how to do front crawl in a solid and efficient manner so you can do that going forwards without getting shattered.

Quinandthem · 12/02/2013 11:02

Hi Everyone & newbies,

Just had our 20 wk scan today but didn't want to find out what sex (and dont think she was going to tell us anyway).

The scan went really well and its amazing what they can see (and have to check). Happy to saw that everything is present and correct and in the 'normal' range for all measurements - glad there's not a giant in there!!!

Cant believe you wait ages for the 12wk scan and now it seems like time has flown to the 20wk one - Really cant believe that we are now half way through!

Good luck in all the next scans & check ups.

photographerlady · 12/02/2013 11:17

Quin congrats on the great scan, did the tech ask if you wanted to know the sex off the start? Times flying now Smile
