Good luck with the new job totally!!

VinegarDrinker · 11/02/2013 07:18

Couple of inches of snow here. No such thing as a snow day in the NHS though!

Good luck today Totally, hope your BP behaves, at least in anaesthetics you get to sit down most of the time Wink

photographerlady · 11/02/2013 08:14

Yay taking a snow day! Sorry don't mean to rub it in hehee. I still have work from my home PC it just means I can do so with the tv on in the background.

Sorry you are having a bit of a cold today Cheese its so unfair when you can't take any meds for it.

Totally good luck today!

Vine be careful on the way in.

18w today!

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 09:01

Welcome Islander - hope all going well with your pregnancy so far.

Cheese - snap. I think DS2's cold has at long last mutated into something strong enough to take down my immune system. Ho hum. Am drinking lots of lemon & ginger tea with honey and on the snuffle babe balm.

Sprinkling of snow where we are and lots of sleet on the way in to work.

Anyone with older kids getting bizarre name suggestions for the baby? Dont know what it is as decided not to find out at 20 week scan (as this is the last might be nice to have a surprise) - suggestions so far from Star Wars Obsessed DS1 are Luke, Leia, Chewbacca and Han. For a girl he's suggested Buttercup and Daisy (which I pointed out are both cow's names!). DS2 helpfully also suggested R2D2 (or R-Doo Doo as he calls him). Suggestions from DS2 are Spike and Little Pup. Not quite sure where he's got those from Hmm

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 09:04

Vinegar - sympathies on pregnancy insomnia. I suffered terribly from it with DS1. Do you have any meditation cds or apps? If so, they were the only things that helped me in my first pregnancy - as they help you switch your mind off so at least you feel rested - when I was away for a good 3 hour stretch most nights.

rosiedays · 11/02/2013 09:38

Hi Everyone. Can i Join?
you all seem so lovely and supportive Smile I recently moved to a new city and don't know Anyone here, also got 'let go' from work when they found out i was pregnant (grrrr) feeling a bit lonely and isolated Sad
My pregnancy was a BiG shock and i've had some tough days but now bump is growing and i'm getting my head back in to mum mode i'm starting to enjoy it! (DD1 25, DD2 22,.) I really feel like a first timer!!
MN has been a great sourse of support and advice, I've spent HOURS reading posts.
hoping to find somewhere i can share my pregnancy with others who can simpathise(sp!!) and hand hold. Thanks

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 10:19

Welcome Rosiedays and congratulations on your pregnancy. Am so sorry you had such a bumpy start to your pregnancy - but babies are great icebreakers and am sure once your little one arrives you will make new mum friends (if not before then). Feel free to add yourself on to the waddlers and riders and scan stats list which is on the separate thread in antenatal.

flyingsprocket · 11/02/2013 11:08

BadmissM

Thanks Liz for your birth story. Is it quite common that epis don't work do you think?

Welcome islander, I'm a first timer too & find the info/support on this thread invaluable

Good luck today in the new job totally!

I'm not doing much work at the moment because of having to stop flying during pregnancy. Feeling quite lazy but trying to enjoy the me time!

flyingsprocket · 11/02/2013 11:09

Doh! I meant to say I'm sorry to hear its so bad with your parents badmissM

cheekbyjowl · 11/02/2013 11:33

Dinky I think chewbacca should be a strong contender don't you[wink

rosie is that not illegal... Loosing your job for that reason.. But you're bound to make new friends in your new city x

rosiedays · 11/02/2013 11:58

cheeky hi, They were sneeky, I'd not been there long (3 months) and it was far from Ideal Job! (1 1/2 hour commute, long stress filled days, numerous calls on days off!!!) I had an appraisel booked with my manager on the monday when i was going to tell her officially i was Pg. Friday morning i was called to the office and 'let go' from my probation with no explanation. Just thanks but we don't want you anymore. there were rumers.
It was upsetting at the time but like most things, a blessing really as i'm really glad i don't have to do it any more!!!

I have an interview on Wed and not sure whether to Hide Bump (still just doable) untill the offer job (if they do) or be upfront. Its a Temp post till July, and office based..... love to hear what other s think??

bigbelly4 · 11/02/2013 12:05

dinky my children have come up with some cracking name suggestions - 5 yr old DS has come up with "patch" after his stuffed dog! 6yr old DD "cindy", pippi (longstockings) and 7 yr old DS "bob" Funnily enough we are not planning on using any of them! Although DS 2 has had a melt down because we said we wern't calling it Rosie - so have agreed that it can be a middle name - IF its a girl!

Now, birth stories - Dont think it matters what number baby your on you always worry about it! I've had three straightforward "easy" births - All three have been back to back but have come VERY quickly - longest 3 hours and shortest 29mins! (yes, from first contraction to delivery) so naturally I am concerned about not making it to hospital in time - Not keen on home birth as we live on a farm in middle of nowhere, so if we needed a transfer were looking at a longish delay. Also, having had 3 normal births I am now in the mindset of "well I'm due a hard one" - eeck!

As I am typing away I'm getting kicked and wiggled inside - lovely, lovely lovely!!!

elliejjtiny · 11/02/2013 13:54

Thanks for the reassurance re forceps. I think I'd got it into my head that after 3 normal quick deliveries my good luck will suddenly wear out and I will end up with a 3 day labour with loads of interventions this time.

Welcome islander and rosie.

On the subject of names, DS1 has given it a lot of thought and has chosen a few of the most obscure names from thomas the tank engine. Although I don't fancy Bulgy or Skarloey as choices, one of the ones he has chosen happens to be one of the 2 middle names we have chosen. I asked DS2 and he just said "what baby?" with a confused look on his face! Honestly, the house could fall down without him noticing Grin. So we've had the conversation about how the new baby will be coming near DS1's birthday. He'll have forgotten again by next week!

badmissm so sorry that your parents aren't being supportive. Mine were less than happy about my news and only know I'm pregnant and due in july. They haven't asked when in July I'm due or how I am or anything. I'm just trying to focus on the fact that DH, DS1, DS2 (when he remembers that I'm pregnant!) and the inlaws are pleased.

Is anyone else still puking? I shouldn't really moan as it's a lot better than it was and if I eat every couple of hours and shove tic tacs in my mouth when I start to get nauseous then I only throw up every other day or so (still feel nauseous about half the day though). I just get annoyed when all the books say morning sickness stops at 12 weeks and DH's Nan keeps telling me that I'm lucky to have no sickness this time. After 4 previous pregnancies with bad morning sickness I'm good at recognising the signs and get enough notice to stroll casually to the nearest loo this time. With DS1 I used to suddenly break off a conversation and run, dramatically with one hand over my mouth. Less dignified but more sympathy Grin.

19+3

MightBeMad · 11/02/2013 14:28

Ellie, sympathy from me. i'm still feeling nausea nearly constantly too. Luckily (?) I haven't actually been sick that much but I can't wait for the feeling to pass!

Welcome newbies too. It's lovely to have even more joiners.

16+6

Gingerpanther27 · 11/02/2013 14:43

Finally caught up on thread as I've not posted for a while. I got my pram at the weekend, it's an emmaljunga Grin second hand as I couldn't justify it at brand new price but it's good as :) didnt realise how hard it was to get a pram with high handle height if your more than 5"5 (no offence to anyone who is shorter) Blush scan on Thursday and can't wait either. Finally got my physio referral as I've been told I have spd and after a few hours in town yesterday and way too long on buses it's a sofa day today Wink

Gingerpanther27 · 11/02/2013 14:43

19+1 today as well. Also hi to the newbies and lurkers :)

elliejjtiny · 11/02/2013 15:21

Just had a phone call from the receptionist at the GP surgery. After all the lectures about high bmi meaning I'm at risk of blood clots the booking bloods have shown low platelets which is the opposite problem. Not really sure what that means apart from extra blood tests to keep an eye on it. The receptionist wanted me to book an appointment with the nurse to get it redone but when I said the anaesthetist had to do it last time she had a bit of a panic and now she has to ask the GP what to do.

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 15:24

Ginger - ouch at SPD. Hope the physio helps with alleviating the symptoms. Specialknickers seems to really rate her osteo too. Congrats on the buggy bargain too.

Ellie - hopefully the GP will be able to advise. At least the low platelets reduce the BMI risk...

islander99 · 11/02/2013 16:16

Many thanks for the welcomes. I'll do the stats from the laptop later. Can I ask wise people what they think? Had my 16 week check today and the MW found ++leuc and +protein in my urine sample. I've had no symptoms of an infection and am not overly concerned, but my DH is a worrier, so is the urine being sent away for additional testing a concern or pretty standard?
Thanks

dinkystinky · 11/02/2013 16:26

One of the medics in disguise on thread will doubtless be along to advise soon - all I can say is that I have had slightly elevated protein in all my urine tests to date. First one got sent off to be checked and it was all fine. MW said I may need to up my fluids but nothing to worry about at this stage.

MightBeMad · 11/02/2013 16:28

Sending it away is standard Islander if anything has shown up on the dip. I had a test that showed protein + and got sent away too. As did all my follow-up tests. All came back clear. Infections can be relatively syptomless and harmless and if it does turn out to be one, they'll probably just give you some pg-safe antibiotics. On the other hand it could just be that some 'contaminent' got into the sample (from the pot or a bit of that lovely pg discharge that we all loathe Blush ). I expect the MW checked your bp and has no concerns there so unless you start to feel ill, I really wouldn't worry, just wait for the results.

MightBeMad · 11/02/2013 16:29

PS I'm not one of our thread-medics, just a second timer who's had the same thing Smile

photographerlady · 11/02/2013 16:44

I know this was brought up a few pages ago but would anyone recommend a sleeping maternity pillow that doubles as a breastfeeding pillow?

orangebubbles · 11/02/2013 17:31

Just a quickie (sorry to post and run), scan today went well and we are in the Blue Grin! Not around much this week so likely to be back next week to catch up. Good luck to you all with scans this week x

Cutandstick · 11/02/2013 17:54

Welcome newbies, and congrats orange! How exciting knowing!! Ours tomorrow and I'm still not 100% that's I don't want to know Confused

ellie I started puking again about a fortnight ago every other day - usually before kids arrive - but Friday was a 2 puke special involving a dash out the room with hand over mouth whilst everyone queued up for assembly Blush I think it's because I'm a bit snotty.... Hoping it will disappear along with my cold... Soon!!
