Hello. I found out I'm pregnant last week. Came as a bit of a surprise as literally just started trying (following me having a biological clock moment on realising I'm 37 this year). Expected to be trying for a while but hey presto here we are. Consider us to be very lucky right now. This will be our second. Our DD eighteen months old. Feeling rough rough rough. Nausea seems to get worse daily. Last time I felt hideous for 4 months. This time it seems to get worse at bedtime which is really not pleasant. Having to remember to eat little & often and trying to recall what I did to help last time! Anyway just wanted to say hello and share as I hate this part when nobody knows and you can't talk about it. :-)

BirdsDoIt · 11/02/2013 19:27

jellycurls you've inspired me to go for a swim this evening! (Before hitting the sofa and eating a massive bowlful of pasta).

My main symptom is hunger, most of the time. No matter what I eat the night before, I wake up ravenous. Trying not to eat crap but honestly, at this rate I'm going to be the size of a house by week 10. Also has anyone else noticed getting out of breath really quickly? I did my usual gallop up the stairs this am to brush my teeth before leaving (late) for work and my heart started going like the clappers! Then walked up the stairs instead of taking the lift at work and by 3rd floor was gasping. Quite active normally (cycle to work etc - obvs not at the moment) so this is weird... Andnot sore boobs exactly but I'm definitely more boob conscious - v aware of them when I walk/run iykwim. I think these are symptoms but it could all be in my head and I'm just greedy, unfit and boob obsessed :-) oh and I have an oddly sensitive scalp - like it's been sunburnt. I'm definitely not imagining that.

santa thanks for the advice about my boss - I think you're right - if anything goes wrong, I would have to tell because I'd need time off, and so might as well confess now and not stress endlessly and unnecessarily over whether she's guessed or not (and how to tell her). Now i'm pondering over telling her by e-mail or just asking for a late afternoon meeting so she's free to run away home afterwards (rather than sit next to each other for the rest of the day)...I know I should tell her first but might get advice from someone else at work before taking the plunge.

It's so nice having you lot for company!

pinkbuttons fingers crossed for tomorrow.

roofio87 · 11/02/2013 19:39

Birds I'm definitely getting out of breath more. apparently its very common as ur body needs more oxygen and is pumping more blood round than usual. I find myself struggling on the hill up to work which I never have before!!

Sanjifair · 11/02/2013 19:45

Hi all, it's certainly a busy thread here! Congrats to all. Phoned docs and am not getting an appointment until 1st March. I'll be 8 weeks at that point. Bit worried that is leaving it quite late to get 12 weeks scan all booked in. Problem is I am away on hols the week before and they only had the urgent appointments before that. Not sure pregnancy counts as urgent though!

Haylebop12 · 11/02/2013 19:49

sanj first mw appts tend to be 8 weeks so don't worry :-)

roofio87 · 11/02/2013 19:55

sanj do you mean u can't see your gp till 8 weeks? where I am you can contact the midwife team yourself without seeing a gp so might be worth seeing if you can do that?!

littleducks · 11/02/2013 19:55

Symptoms I share:

Out if breath when running for the bus
Sore boobs
Stomach cramps (constipation related?)
Headaches
Lethargic

Pregnancy is so glamourous Wink

JellyCurls · 11/02/2013 20:17

Phew glad that's over, roll on 20 odd weeks till I got a proper excuse not to go. hayle I feel your pain on the early rises my alarm goes off at 4.30am - not good for first trimester exhaustion and morning sickness.

Tmi but my nipples are proper hurting now. Never had in pregnancy before and i can only liken it to when my dc2 chomped down when being boob fed, ouch

Sanjifair · 11/02/2013 20:18

Yes, can't get gp appointment. Don't think I can self refer to midwife, but not sure about that. Hope it doesn't mean I get a late scan, that's all.
Symptoms here:
Sore boobs
Burping
Tiredness
Stomach very churny and noisy, but don't feel actually sick

Mega busy at work too, great!

pinkbuttons · 11/02/2013 20:20

wow to birds and jelly I am hugely impressed by the fitness commitmant. Its taking all my energy not to puke at any odd smell today including a friend whos recently taken up smoking. was retchingBlush luckily he knows as had to look after DS the other day when we went to hospital.
Really hoping this sickness is a good sign for tomorrow...
Thankyou for all the good wishes and Hi to everyone whos new.

JellyCurls · 11/02/2013 20:23

pink good luck for tomorrow, keeping everything crossed for you x

terrifiednewbie · 11/02/2013 20:44

sanjifair-most antenatal services will accept self referrals (some, particularly in some of the popular London hospitals for example) will only accept women within certain catchments unless GP has referred for specific specialist input. Check the website for the antenatal service you want to book in with and see what their criteria are.

Sal1977 · 11/02/2013 20:51

Good luck for tomorrow Pink, I have a good feeling for you...

I was on a massage training course today where you practise on each other. I decided not to be massaged, just in case, so ended up doing about 3 hours of bwck and foot massage on other therapists...well jel!! Lol.

Big decision in our household is whether to get married before or after the baby is born...? Thoughts? I did check out some maternity wedding dresses...Christ, some of them conjure up images of American movies where the hilly billy dad is chasing the groom down the aisle with a shotgun whilst the heavily pregnant bride is sat at the alter smoking and waiting!! Haha

MrsAFlowerpot · 11/02/2013 20:57

littleducks my symptoms are exactly the same as yours! By now with DD I was sick constantly unless I had something in mouth so trying not to worry about comparisons.

Good luck tomorrow pinkbuttons

OrangeBlossom2 · 11/02/2013 21:01

Hello everyone, can I join you? I am new to mumsnet and got my bfp yesterday at 13dpo. I am due on 21st October. I am 27 and a primary school teacher. This was our first month of ttc and my period wasn't due until today so it doesn't feel quite real yet. It all seems a bit too good to be true as I was prepared that it might take ages and was trying not to get my hopes up. I was reassured to see that me and my DH are not the only ones to immediately worry that things might go wrong. I am so happy and excited though and it is great to be able to tell somebody I am pregnant!

roxvox · 11/02/2013 21:03

Gyming/swimming ladies, you have made me feel very bad! I contemplated going the other day but ended up using my sore back/tummy/head as an excuse and so didn't go.

Still no MS here (kind of yay, but I too wouldn't mind feeling a bit more pregnant). However, today I have just the most teary day. In floods of tears a few times at work this morning (running off to the bathroom with some concealer every time so I could cover up my puffy eyes afterwards). I actually think I got away with it although there were a few comments about my "sparkly eyes" and my "red nose"... I called DH at lunch time for a good squal and he did a very good job of composing me for the afternoon where I only welled up once... (proud face)

Ladies having boob problems; I jumped the gun and bought some nightwear bras from Mothercare at the weekend and I woke up with boobs that felt considerably less sore than they have been the past few mornings. They were £24 for 2 pairs and include freaky handy drop down flaps for breast feeding (not that I need that aspect just yet).

Apart from that just lower back pain and a few tummy niggles, but no dramas. I hope everything is ok in there.

I hope it all goes well tomorrow pinkbuttons

OrangeBlossom2 · 11/02/2013 21:07

sal1977, my sister got married at 5 months and her bump (now my one yer old niece!) was barely visible in a floaty empire line wedding dress from monsoon (everyone at the wedding knew, but she didn't want too look too huge!) I think this was it. uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_4,mon_4.1/3530124612#gallery

littleducks · 11/02/2013 21:20

Mrsaflowerpot snap! i spent time in hopital on a drip with uncontrollable HG when pregnant with dd not quite believing the lack of sickness atm. Planning on keeping this one quiet at work so probably not a bad thing.

OrangeBlossom- Congratulations amd welcome!

pinkbuttons- got my fingers crossed for you.

sanj- Im not planning to see gp till 8 weeks either, but she is running an antenatal clinic that day. I have always self refered and seen mws before but my dr ow seems to be more involved I'm not expecting delays to scan arranging but I suppose its wait and see.

And where is everybody, generally Geographically speaking? I have had some great meet ups with past ante (and then post) natal groups from MN, better friendship generators than even the NCT coffee mornings!

Haylebop12 · 11/02/2013 21:29

littleducks I also spent time in hosp during my last pregnancy due to HG. However if it happens again I know which anti sickness work so hopefully can avoid it getting that bad this time.

I'm west mids.

OrangeBlossom2 · 11/02/2013 21:29

Thank you. I am in South West London.

Sal1977 · 11/02/2013 21:42

Thanks Orange, will check them out! X

cherrycherry41 · 11/02/2013 21:48

south yorkshire here! x

Livened · 11/02/2013 21:49

Hope everyone is ok. I'm up in Cheshire. Turns out after a weekend of vomiting, fever and awful sore throat, my DH and I have hand foot and mouth :-(

As if pregnancy isn't fun enough without this little lot! Awful sore throat and sore mouth and hands - not the ideal start. I also just feel knackered too, and much more grumpy than normal (although I can now use my pregnancy hormones as an excuse to DH!).

I'm going for an early scan privately too - we have so many things coming up in the next few weeks when we need to tell people for my own safety - a hen do etc - so I just want to make sure it's a viable happy peanut before I start telling the world. Our parents know already, but we figure if anything did go wrong we'd need their support anyway.

On a happy note we've finally booked our first holiday since our honeymoon in 2010! Taba Heights here we come - anyone else been there? We've been to sharm bu fancied somewhere new this time.

Hope the ginger biccies and gaviscon are in good supply for everyone - something tells me we're going to need them...

Sephy · 11/02/2013 21:51

I'm loving reading this thread, it's so reassuring to see others thinking exactly the same! AF would be due tomorrow or we'd, so just keeping fingers crossed that early test wasn't lying to me and that I really do have a cause to celebrate!

Just spent the evening listening to SILs recent horror birth story which has at least given me a silver lining to look at if it turns out I'm not actually pregnant after all... It's scary stuff whichever way you look at it...

roofio87 · 11/02/2013 21:53

I'm in the Liverpool area!!x
