My hospital said no suitcases! And we're not allowed to take car seats in either until we get collected to go home. Not great for us as we're relying on expensive taxis or public transport HmmI've not got anywhere like the amount of stuff everyone else seems to be taking...

Countmyblessings · 24/02/2013 20:59

Leni - what kind of foolishness is that with no suitcase! Have they not noticed that its because of them not supplying the small item like a few nappies and cotton wool etc why we have to bring everything and the flippin kitchen sink!!! My 1st dd is 18 but I remember how wonderful st Thomas was back then - with ds he came out so quick didn't open or use much stuff as hospital couldn't get me out quick enough although had to wait 6 hours to be discharged after a 45 mins labour!!!!!!
But with CS I'm making sure I have everything covered don't really want DH to have to keep coming up and down to hospital wasting petrol I think I may actually leave spares in car so if needed at any time he has a short walk to carpark!!!! Yep defo!!!! With supplies of biscuits, crisps and snacks and juice best place to keep cold too. Also may asked him to bring iPad if security is good as don't think I would cope well if I went into shower to come back and its gone!!!!!!
I didn't bother do a hospital tour it was only last week I found out where the labour ward was!!!!!! I have had all my dc in different hospitals!!!
Soyo- giggling at the thought of you using a tea towel sized towel to cover yourself with!!!!!!

plonko · 24/02/2013 21:56

Aw Max is a lovely name, congratulations Zoey.

Soyo, hope scan is ok but at least baby's definitely cooked now!

My hospital also restricts how much you take. I think they get sick of people bringing absolutely everything in. I've managed to fit everything into a large backpack then can send dp out to the car to fetch the extra bag of baby clothes and carseat.

Had so many twinges today I keep thinking this must be it but then they just fizzle out to nothing - or worse, gas! Gah am sick of this game now. I was certain I had one massive contraction earlier, and yet labour hasn't begun. My nerves are shot.

shieldbug · 24/02/2013 23:30

gummi I do indeed have a ds with a name beginning with H and a ginormous blue buggy (since I walk everywhere it needs to be loaded up with shopping and items I deem essential but of course aren't at all). There are 2 things that would help to decide if it was me; first, I have v long dark hair and second, an English accent. Oooh...now I'm trying to remember who else was there. Were you with your OH or did you have a dd with you?

leni no suitcase?! Just the nappies and maternity pads alone take up loads of space, not to mention the changes of clothes for the two of us. I've not had any communication from the hospital at all, so if I have too much stuff, there's not much they can do about it.

plonko twinges sound promising, but can happen ages (i.e. days) before anything kicks off. Don't worry, when labour sets in, you'll certainly know!

Jojo hope you haven't too much longer to wait.

Emsyboo · 25/02/2013 08:17

soyo better safe than sorry! Baby prob just resting up for labour but you definitely did the right thing getting checked out, hope the scan goes well goodluck!

count good idea leaving extras in DH car we got brought in unexpectedly so have been writing long texts to DH and Mum explaining what I need and where to find it.
leni can't believe no suitcases they have signs at my hospital saying bags need to fit in the tiny cupboards but no one takes any notice one woman had a full travel system in and after 11 days in hospital my stuff is spreading out!

3 more days for me till I meet baby was a bit worried about only being 37 weeks but the did a growth scan and estimated at just over 7lbs (will see how accurate it is)

Hoping they will let me out but had a midnight bleed on Saturday so doubt it although every time we talk to them about a c section my pulse goes up so need to find some calming techniques by Thursday prob too late for hypnobirthing lol

Oodsigma · 25/02/2013 08:26

I take everything in then dh takes the case home after I've unpacked , maybe that's the problem.

FurryFox · 25/02/2013 09:57

SoYo Hope the scan goes well today, always best to get checked if any concerns.

emsy ooh 3 days, not long at all. How exciting and nerve racking at the same time. How long have you been in hospital now? I bet you're looking forward to getting home.

I've been having braxton hicks for a few weeks now and some twinges, something my body didn't do the last two times so am hoping it's a sign that maybe she's on her way in the next couple of weeks and I won't end up being induced like the previous two Hmm. Though I have to say my second induction was quite a nice experience and all over very quickly compared to my first time. I did have to stay in for an extra night though because it had turned out my waters had gone but I had no idea when Shock.

Oodsigma · 25/02/2013 10:20

furry my BH have increases with each baby.

OP posts:
Countmyblessings · 25/02/2013 12:18

Emsy- 11 days in the hospital OMG but wow on 7lbs baby! And 3 days till you meet your baby!!!!!! That's a bit overkill whole travel system I guess she's going home on the bus!!!!!!!
I'm trying to stay calm about CS but I think oh this time next week hopefully baby in my arms!!! I have issues with needles so will def have to use zone out and focus on my family and baby!!!!!
Really don't know how I'm goin to cope leaving my boy at home only 3 and told me "he wants the baby now" as its hurting mummy! Was up all night with BH and pushing pressure in my bits!!!!!!
Soyo- that's what your suppose to do so don't feel bad! Safe then sorry!!!!
Furry- I guess when waters go it could be like a small trickle and not a huge gush like in movies!!!!! I sneeze and leak so use to it thank God
For panty liners!!!!!

leniwhite · 25/02/2013 16:55

I still don't know if I've had any BH's...! Had breastfeeding class today. Came away realising I need to insist on having the birth I want after other people there also said they'd heard stories of MWs taking babies away from mums and giving them bottles when the mums wanted to BF... I don't want that happening so I'm starting now with putting my foot down. Luckily head MW then called to respond to my emailed complaint and now I'm seeing her in the birth centre on thursday Wink finally feeling a bit more in control!

Weird that it was in a BF class to realise how terrified I was of having my choice taken away.

Planning to start doing the hand expression massage from next week to try and get into labour - anyone else had any luck doing that?

On the suitcase front I'm yet to figure out how to fit everything into small bags, it totally is all the nappies and pads taking up space - I clean forgot any actual clothes for me, duh!

Emsyboo · 25/02/2013 16:58

Had a horrible morning DS isn't sleeping he is 2 and misses me and wakes up at night this morning when he visited me in hospital he just sobbed for me to come home I have been upset ever since and had to buy some chocolate to cheer myself up!
count it is good knowing how long it will be hope the braxton hicks aren't too bad. Mine are getting stronger too and painful but making me bleed hence the need for this section quickly. Dunno if baby will be that big as you can't really trust these scans but definitely reassuring DS was 9lb2 at 39 weeks so could be.
Keeping an eye out for an update on soyo scan I'm sure it's fine but it is always nice to get another look at baby Aswell

Emsyboo · 25/02/2013 17:03

leni our posts crossed
I tried hand expressing last time did nothing but probably like a sweep or sex if you are nearer to labour it works if not then not much will work Smile
Strange to hear stories of midwives not encouraging breastfeeding they are bf nazis round here I actually feel sorry for women not wanting to.
I think you have to be clear in your mind what you want no matter what you want and stay strong - or get birth partner to make sure you are heard
Obviously with a bit of compromise on some things - I want a water birth - getting a section lol

Countmyblessings · 25/02/2013 17:33

Painful painful BH all day they r bringing tears to my eyes now!

leniwhite · 25/02/2013 18:28

Underwater section... Hmmm maybe one for the future Emsy!

Rainbowbabyhope · 25/02/2013 19:29

leni I have made it very clear in my birth plan that baby is not to be given a bottle or indeed any form of breast milk substitute without my express permission for the very reason you describe!

GummiberryJuice · 25/02/2013 19:47

Shield they were the 2 other things I was going to say, long dark hair and accent, you were reading a book to him, I was sitting on same side as you, I don't think I had dd2 with me, although have brought her quite recently so might have. I was probably googling on my phone.I'm there this week again.

Full moon tonight do we think any babies will appear?

GummiberryJuice · 25/02/2013 19:50

Oh I have a smallish suitcase, what are they going to do turn you away if you bring one.
I don't even have half the things packed that they recommend so I'd live to know exactly what size of bag they would realistically expect us to bring.

Emsyboo · 25/02/2013 19:51

count you sure they aren't contractions?
Like Gummi says full moon so could be time Wink
leni ha ha a water section sounds like a form of CIA torture

leniwhite · 25/02/2013 20:37

Good plan Rainbow - I need to revise mine and be really clear now that I know my options. Didn't feel confident before but slowly figuring out that not all these things will be respected automatically unless I specifically say so.

So like the tides, the moon could pull a few babies out! Maybe if we were to point the exit towards the sky... Haha sorry, in a funny old mood today. Felt really odd last night, suddenly got spangly eyes and couldn't see properly, followed by a cracking headache which then went but left me feeling exhausted. Was very scary but my bp was fine and baby seems fine too. First time I'd felt really terrified about physical symptoms so far.

Oodsigma · 25/02/2013 21:13

Good point count are you sure?

OP posts:
shieldbug · 25/02/2013 21:55

gummi I've got an appt on Weds so possibly see you then!

count crumbs- if the BH don't go away, could be the real thing. Perhaps you will have the new moon baby.

leni the spangly eyes thing is a sign of a migraine. Bad headaches coupled with swollen feet/ankles/ hands can be a sign of pre-eclampsia, but if your bp is fine then that's not v likely. Remember, if you are worried, just call the mw; it's what they're there for. I called about all sorts of random things last pg and they never seemed to mind.

emsy sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. Look after yourself. Hope your ds quickly adjusts and starts to sleep better soon.

Ds and I are sharing a cold at the moment and keep waking each other up with coughing (fortunately dh sleeps through most of it). We had a rotten night of it last night.

SoYo · 26/02/2013 04:47

Hi all,

Eventful day here. Scan was fine but my BP was unexpectedly through the roof & Bubba still not moving as normal so they've induced me! I'd have loved to avoid induction but with BP that high it wouldn't have been sensible.

Sat here getting gradually more uncomfortable with my propess in bouncing away on the ball. All very surreal thinking I came for a quick scan & will be going home with a baby!

Signal here is terrible but I'll let you know when there's any news!

Hope everyone's ok.

Leni, glad you're putting your foot down & concentrating on making sure your opinions are heard. It's important to feel comfortable that you & the MWs/Drs are working together.

Count & Emsy, not long now! Hope the time passes swiftly & without any problems & there are babes in arms soon!

X

peanutMD · 26/02/2013 05:25

Hi all, I briefly got involved in the first thread but couldn't keep up lol.

How is everyone? I'm now 38+5 with DC2 and getting impatient! Booked in for an ELCS next Tuesday or spontaneous labour before hand but it just can't come fast enough :o

Slightly TMI question but has anyone else had issues with anal fissures?

GummiberryJuice · 26/02/2013 06:26

Good luck SoYo

Emsyboo · 26/02/2013 06:47

Goodluck soyo
leni best get that checked out, like shield says could be a sign of pre eclampsia or something else
