Happy 2013 one and all!

Thinkingof4 · 16/01/2013 18:52

Sorry to hear that boostar I've no experience of that but I'm sure it will be helpful.
abzs have you tried eating dried apricots? I feed them to the boys if they are a bit bunged up and it always works a treat. Plus they taste pretty good!

We are firmly in the not wanting to know gender of baby till birth group. We have never found out with any of the boys, it's always been a great motivator for me at the pushing stage to finally find out what I'm having!! Pretty sure it will be another boy though!!

Cutandstick · 16/01/2013 19:28

ellie and dinky can you explain what consultant led care is and how it is different to MW led?
guava my asthma is moderate. It's generally well controlled but only on max dosage meds, and Nov-April it gets rather messy with steroids, and trips to urgent care for nebulising. Had 15 days of steroids already since being pregnant as I caught something from the kids at school that turned into bronchitis and caused horrible asthma probs. The thing is when I'm not ill I'm fine - Wink and I just wish it would go away! Hope DC doesn't inherit it!

VinegarDrinker · 16/01/2013 19:46

Cutandstick it just means you will see a Dr for a few extra appointments during pregnancy alongside your midwifery care. The aim is to keep an eye on your asthma as sometimes it can get worse in pregnancy (though often actually gets better!).

Delivery wise depending on severity of asthma they may want you to deliver somewhere there are Drs around if necessary (ie not homebirth/freestanding MLU) but it shouldn't affect anything about your delivery itself.

Cutandstick · 16/01/2013 20:12

Thanks vinegar all good news.

Guavasforbreakfast · 16/01/2013 20:31

Hope you're ok flying and that they find out what's causing it soon.

Cut from the sounds of it it's better to be on the safe side but it sounds like lots people have had normal births with consultant care, just a bit of extra tlc during pregnancy Smile

On a totally unrelated point, I just saw Les Miserables, highly recommended! Maybe it's my pregnant hormones but I was almost sobbing by the end of it.

Abzs · 16/01/2013 20:34

I quite like dried apricots Thinkingof4, I could try that if it carries on.

However, I had something approaching a proper dinner last night and drank a shedload of water and feel a lot better today. Going with the same method today. Helps that I'm not feeling sick at the moment - hopefully that's done with now.

We won't find out gender until Small arrives. NHS Grampian policy is not to look, and you are asked not to ask. Doesn't matter, as DH says we'll get what we get. But I can't think of any girl names...

Supershiv1 · 16/01/2013 20:35

flyingsprocket how are you doing my lovely?
Sorry. Creme eggs for me!

I have joined a trial midwife service in my area called one2one. I found out about them on here after having a bad time with my bleeds & seemingly no one to talk to.
I met my dedicated midwife yesterday - she accompanied me to a free 12 wk rescan (where again Ribena was not behaving and we couldn't do the NT measurements -despite me bum bouncing the couchbed thing and letting out some wee). They put me back a further 3 days and said I have one big fibroid 10cmx9cmx5cm hanging from the top of my womb. That's massive! And I always thought my belly was too much Shiraz!

Supershiv1 · 16/01/2013 20:40

Ahh posted too soon!
Because they put me back (again) they have offered me another scan on Tuesday. I am thinking of leaving it though as we've tried twice and there will be no guarantee that Ribena will be good. Plus I have a big work meeting that's been in the diary for months an hour and a half away from the scan appt (which is lunchtime, so I'd miss most of the meeting)

SlouchingPanda · 16/01/2013 20:48

Came on to be all helpful about consultant vs midwife-led care, but VinegarDrinker beat me to it and probably much more clear than I would have been!

OhGood am liking your menu of caaaaarbs and a face-sized steak. I am a pasta MONSTER! In other news I'm 15 weeks tomorrow - whoop! Grin But no bump yet but I'm bio-oiling to high heaven. Bump, I'm ready for ya!

I am in the 'not finding out' camp too. I like the thought of it being a reason to push the baby out and also of being able to tell everyone the surprise when the baby arrives. Plus, it will stop my mum doing so much knitting... Certainly exciting to hear about our first confirmed girl and boy though!

I'm in awe of the buggy spreadsheet makers... ladies after my own heart. Nice work!

Sprocket thinking of you and hope you get some reassurance and hopefully some answers too. Also wondering how Thundercatz is getting on after CVS. Really hope you both are okay.

dinkystinky · 16/01/2013 21:02

Flying sprocket - glad you had a good scan (you too Shiv) but sorry you are bleeding again and staying in overnight - hope you have good eat plugs.

Shiv - the one2one service sounds great! Will they be monitoring fibroid growth going forwards?

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 16/01/2013 21:03

Meant ear plugs not ear plugs!

OP posts:
Beginningofthejourney · 16/01/2013 21:06

I'm not feeling sick this eve for the first time in a few weeks, fingers crossed it is done now, however I am currently eating a cream egg after reading yesterday posts so still eating more than I need too! Haven't actually put on weight despite the rather large bump!
I'm not gonna find out bubba is a boy or girl as I've always imagined looking to see once bubba is put on to my tummy, unlike you abzs I have way more girls names, struggling with boys!

dinkystinky · 16/01/2013 21:09

Aargh damn you autocorrect!

OP posts:
flyingsprocket · 16/01/2013 22:23

Thanks for the well wishes girls. I've got my ear plugs in & am ready for zzz. There's only 3 if us on the ward so should be quiet enough. I've been quite spoiled in the past & have only ever been in private hospitals Blush but the care has been great here.

shiv that service sounds great, where are you based? Also that sounds like a huge fibroid

abz I can vouch for dried apricots too

We're going to find out the gender. For us it's because there's so much that's unknown, we would like to eliminate any variables we can before D-Day!

MarieKL · 16/01/2013 22:40

Thanks Embolsion. Telling work wasn't so bad, my manager had already guessed as I looked so wiped out and drawn Hmm. Marimama I hope your boss isn't too moody, and good luck for tomorrow.

Flying hope your okay and the consultant can give you some reassurance.

BadMissM so glad you got good news.

I'm with Persuasion on second breakfasts and double lunches. I think I was the same last time too but I had awful MC so could justify, to myself at least, eating more! Definitely have a bump this time round whereas last time I had nothing till I was at least 5 months, though most of it is probably food! please can we stop mentioning creme eggs. I now really really want one (or two or three Smile )

Does anyone have good recommendations for maternity work wear. I don't know if my contract will be extended beyond March so I don't want to spend a fortune but I'm not going to get away with my non maternity clothes for much longer.

We didn't find out for DS as I wanted the surprise to keep me going through labour as well though oddly enough when they put him on my tummy I was so taken that we had a baby, my DH and I didn't think to ask for another 5 minutes or so whether we had a boy or a girl, and they just assumed we knew. Probably won't find out this time either.

CitizenOscar · 16/01/2013 22:59

cutandstick I've been assigned consultant led care (due to haemorrhage with DS) and all that's happened is I had to meet the consultant and she talked through some of the precautions she'd like to take during pregnancy (basically just some extra blood tests) and during labour (nothing too medicalised, but they'd like me on the delivery suite not MLU, will take some blood so they have some ready & recommend a managed 3rd stage rather than natural).

I was a bit :( at first about being assessed as high risk & referred to consultant but after I met with her I feel better. I had a good, active labour on delivery ward last time with minimal intervention (until the haemorrhage, at which point I was vvvv pleased they intervened!) so I'm pretty sure I can do so again.

Anyone else watched one born every minute this eve? Just watching the repeat now...

Thundercatz · 16/01/2013 23:00

slouching thanks for asking - I didn't have cvs in the end - cancelled at the last minute having managed to get a second nuchal and harmony test booked in at th FMC. Results from the second nuchal are thousands of times better and now we are just waiting to hear on harmony but feeling very positive. Something inside me was saying not to go for the cvs - almost an instinct - and so I'm so glad we managed to do this instead!

marie I've already developed a little bump (even though it's my first!) and so I'm already moving into to maternity wear. I've found the choice severely lacking especially for dresses/work clothes. H&m are very reasonable and Next also have a few things. Topshop have a wider selection but much more casual rather than work focused. Although a but more pricey Isabella oliver is good for work/smarter clothes. But overall i must say I've been very disappointed at what's on offer!

Thundercatz · 16/01/2013 23:01

citizen I've sky+ed OBEM - i never miss an episode though DH hates it!

twirliedobbit · 17/01/2013 06:35

Marie & thunderctaz mammas & papas is great for work clothes and did have a sale on bonus!!

TotallyEggFlipped · 17/01/2013 06:57

Last time I didn't buy many maternity clothes at all. I just wore 'normal' leggings and dresses the whole time. I bought a couple of long tops from H&M mama range to come down over my bump and I've kept wearing them since.
The hardest thing I found was getting a coat to do up, so I'm glad that shouldn't be a problem with a July baby.

Thundercatz · 17/01/2013 08:28

Thanks twirlie I did pay m&p a visit too but forgot to mention them!

I can't wear leggings etc for work so basically just need lots of dresses. Am a size 8 so already most of my work stuff (especially slimmer fitting stuff) is getting too snug around my midsection! Finding casual wear a lot easier to adjust regular clothes too and also more choice in mat wear.

I'm definitely showing already - though baby is tiny it must just be other "stuff" forming a bump? I even got offered a seat on the tube on Friday! I'm only 14 weeks with first baby so it feels a bit early?!!

notprincesskate · 17/01/2013 08:46

Goodness, how much has happened. I'm finally done with my civic duty (Jury service) so I can emerge from the bubble I've been living in!
Glad so many have had good news from scans and even a boy, and a girl wow. Hope those still waiting for scans or results/news get positive news soon. Sorry to hear about your cat Deville, know how you feel we had our dog put to sleep just before christmas and even without the contribution of my hormones I was crying for days.
On the mini eggs v creme eggs I'm definitely a mini eggs girl in fact a bag a day at the mo Blush which means that my bump is probably (almost certainly) not just from bubba, I promised myself I'd get back on to ww once I got to 12 weeks but have failed miserably and all sort of control seems to have disappeared- not good as I have a terrible sweet tooth and no will power and only have to look at food to put weight on..... On the up side when I spoke to midwife about it she told me not to weigh myself as if prone to weight gain, body is likely to be laying down fat for bf so is seems like I might be fighting a losing battle.
I'm also consultant lead as had severe pre-eclapsia last time and DD born at 31 weeks, I've sadly already been told my delivery will be medically led, if I opt for vbac, but I can't decide if I'd rather have an elcs, meeting consultant next week so I guess options will be discussed then, I know policy is more for vbac but I'm v anxious about that and risks, esp needing another emcs.
Finally, god I am going on, I've been spending money eek, although we have majority of stuff I managed to get a second Moses basket and stand from argos for £33 so we can one downstairs too, as I found it a right pain carrying it up and downstairs with bubba and needing somewhere to put baby safely away from my dog, also have my eye on an second hand all terrain buggy, not sure i can justify it to myself, but somehow think I'm going to end up buying it......best not tell DH!!
More than enough from me, have a good day all

BB01 · 17/01/2013 09:41

Sounds like lots of people rate iCandy Peach. Think that'll be my next bit of baby-related research! DH thinks we should consider waiting until after birth to buy one as we're so unsure what sort we need and also because I want to try to carry the baby in a carrier/sling quite a lot so unsure how much I'll use a pram. However it sounds like you sometimes have to wait a long time if you need to order them and also may not be practical if LO doesn't like being carried/I'm too knackered to carry them/have to have C Section etc. Any experienced mummies have any advice?

STOP with the creme egg business! It's uncanny as they're on 2-for-1 offer in cafe at work and was already hovering by them on Tues but managed to resist, then noticed all the posts on them!

BB01 · 17/01/2013 09:48

Me again! Just saw iCandy Peach is from 6 months onwards...so what do people do before 6 months??? Am so new to this whole game!

dinkystinky · 17/01/2013 09:57

Morning all.

Marie - check out Ebay. I really rate Isabella Oliver and Seraphine for maternity wear (work in a law firm so have to look smart) - got some black trousers and a jacket I've worn through 2 lots of babies so far and still look brand new. Lovely tops from IO and dresses too.

Thundercatz- the FMC rock dont they! Glad you had a good nuchal and fingers crossed for the harmony results.

BB01 - DS1 loved being carried but the pram was good for chundertastic days or days when I knew I'd be out and about lots and carrying a heavy baby all day didnt appeal. I think you can definitely wait until baby is here to get it though.

Cant remember who it was upthread who was offered the counselling service? I had a bad time with DS1's birth due to negligent midwife and did a birth debrief - it did help (as did the midwife being disciplined and sent for retraining). The thing I found best though, and which helped lay ghosts to rest, was hypnobirthing - I did a course when pregnant with DS2 and it was the best money ever spent!
