Sept 2013?

Hello - bit early, but I definitely had two positives this morning, wanted to check on drinking vodka this evening or not. I make due date 4th Sep 2013.
I had to terminate a pregnancy in late Sep at 13ish weeks because of incompatible with life diagnosis, so hope that doesn't happen again (I have a 25% chance but hopefully I'll fall in the 75% this time).

catpuss from earlier conversations I think you only need to worry if your maternity unit happens to be Watford General....Wink

frootloops welcome, come join the madness!

triplerock nooooooooo! get a new one quick

Creamtea1 · 16/01/2013 15:23

catpuss you are definetly not the only one!! That has been bothering me since I joined the thread, so much I have even said that out loud, in real life to my DH! Panic about what if there's no room at the hosp and am giving birth in the corridor etc etc
Had no idea sept was such a popular birth month...my other two are spring/summer...think I need to hope for an early arrival in August or a late one hanging on to later in Dec!

jm233 · 16/01/2013 15:25

Just found this great thread- super reassuring for those of us for whom there is not a puke in sight...

I only had one glorious day of sickness and then it was over Hmm

Hi to all newbies, congrats on your bfp's!

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/01/2013 15:28

Is Sept really a very popular month Hmm. It was bad enough in Spring last time. One of my horrors from my 3 day stint in the maternity unit was going to the midwife where there were no midwives. I ended up chatting with a lady waiting for her ELCS. I hope it's really not that bad this time.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/01/2013 15:32

I mean a midwife station with no midwives.

TripleRock · 16/01/2013 15:43

It must have been the Christmas cheer which brought us all our Sept EDDs!

Joy to all men indeed Wink

Daisy299 · 16/01/2013 15:44

General question for people who have done this before!

At what stage are you asked how you'll be feeding the baby?

I have made my mind up not to BF due to personal situation. I really want to be firm and prepared for a hit of hostility. Also want it to be in the birth plan etc so there are no arguments.

LexyMa · 16/01/2013 15:47

Sept is popular with teachers apparently!!

I'm a Watford General candidate but I'm going to aim for home birth and if the situation changes we'll see. Will look into going private, but perhaps would be worthwhile spending the money on an independent midwife or doula (although the rules are changing, at some point IMs won't be able to call themselves that, must check).

I've taken delivery of two suitcases of maternity clothes from a friend - amazingly without having to confirm whether I am yet in need of them or not, she just wanted to create space in her house. A few of us have had babies in neat succession and passed on what's now quite a massive collection of clothes, and excess new baby stuff like the tiny clothes they grow out of so quickly, and the lovely (NOT) maternity pads and huge tubes of lansinoh.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/01/2013 15:50

daisy your midwife will ask you at booking. And so will the one who deliver your child. If you have done it before you will find the NHS is pro formula, and that you have to fight very very hard to bf. The breast is best is only propaganda with no real support.

Make sure you pack cartons and sterised bottles in yor hospital bag. Support of any sort is completely lacking in the postnatal ward.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/01/2013 15:53

I'm sounding very bitter but so many of my friends who wanted to bf desperately were let down by the NHS. My two stay in SCBU and PU both convinced me all the obstetricians are very very pro ff. they like how they can measure exactly how much fluid the baby is taking in.

LexyMa · 16/01/2013 15:54

Daisy there will be a point in your antenatal meetings with your midwife where she will give you a leaflet. She won't be hostile, but she'll remind you of the health benefits for both you and baby.

There are some people you could call hostile about BF - you can easily avoid them (NCT related, not the main teachers but the BF session). Most other people may be somewhat ... evangelical ... ! but if you add some calm confidence to your firm script you should do fine. If you expect hostility people sense it and respond to it.

Oh that's another useful point - newborns are psychically connected to mothers! If you are tense when someone is around, they are likely to scream their heads off if handed to that person. This happened with both my DMum and DMIL. In fact it still happens with my DM although I love her she sets me on edge the moment she arrives and DS really pushes her away because he senses my hackles rising.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/01/2013 15:59

daisy you need to be very prepared to ff the newborn or you might be left with no way to feed the LO if you have my experience. I was left for hours in the delivery room after they stitched up my episiotomy. I was left in the leg up position, with baby on my chest ffs.

I talked to a dr friend afterwards and she said it was because it was shift change time. And obviously a mum who has delivered a healthy baby is low priority. They didn't come and fetch us until they needed the room hours later.

batfuttocks · 16/01/2013 15:59

Daisy, I think I was asked at booking with the last pregnancies. I hope no one would make you feel pressured, although they are likely to question why as I guess they would want to address any misconceptions a patient may have. That's not to say YOU have any, but they may wonder if you did.

I have a couple of friends who bottle fed from the off though and I don't think they had any major issue from the breast is best gang. I fed both of mine myself initially but with much better success second time round than first. There is support out there but it's not always clear how to get it in the early days.

Lovely to hear everyone's updates and welcome to new faces. I am trundling along still feeling sick most the time. Though today is marginally better so of course I am now stressing that something is wrong Angry

cravingformilk · 16/01/2013 17:47

Evening all, it's been a bit of a rubbishy day today. I went for an early scan due to pain on the left side and they could hardly make anything out. She said it looked like a very early pregnancy about 4 weeks (I thought I'd be a minimum of 6 from my LMP) I got my BFP on Friday and I didn't think you could get them sub 4 weeks.

Anyhow, they were fabulous - they took some bloods today and I have to go back in 48hrs - she even all called me this afternoon to tell me that todays blood results match the scan results which I'm hoping is positive news?

Just looking for a bit of reassurance really, anyone been through anything similar?

LexyMa · 16/01/2013 19:16

nowhere near getting a scan here so can't help, sorry!

Has anyone else got tight tummy particularly when sneezing or coughing? I feel like a belt is pulled sharply and painfully tight across my tum quite low down if I sneeze (which I'm doing quite frequently Sad ) and it really hurts. oh but could it be that ligament pain someone mentioned earlier?

cravingformilk · 16/01/2013 19:21

Hi Lexy, from what I've read its quite common - something to do with the hormones we're producing making our muscles relax.

LotsaTuddles · 16/01/2013 19:29

Can't believe so many of you have booking in appts and scans booked.

I had to go drs today, for my registering appointment and saw a nurse, she was beyond useless!! I told her and she said she's not gonna put it on my file/notes or whatever because it's such early days, and to leave it a few weeks and get in touch with midwife Hmm so I filled the form in or the midwife to contact me after my appointment.

I also have a rash, that I assumed was excema, on my stomach and someone said to me to watch out it's not shingles, and she wouldn't even bloody look at it, told me to book an appointment with dr!!! So I did, and their next appointment is 1st Feb, just to see a bloody dr

Sapphireday · 16/01/2013 19:30

Triplerock I've come at your problem from a different side - I've been the person struggling with infertility and people at work have had to break to me the news that they are pregnant. This can be quite hard to take, but I found it easiest when I was taken for a quick chat in a private room - it's much nicer to be away from everyone else and, if you struggle to deal with the news, you can be left in privacy. One time I heard someone's news on the grapevine - my manager shouted out 'congratulations on your pregnancy' right over my head - and I somewhat lost the plot with the insensitivity of it!

Hope this helps

cravingformilk · 16/01/2013 19:52

I'm shocked at that Lotsa, and they call themselves HCP's! Do they not offer any on the day appts? Our GP has a handful but you have to be quick ringing in at 7am to get them! Maybe try a drop in centre if your worried?

cravingformilk · 16/01/2013 19:53

or give NHS direct a call?

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 16/01/2013 20:23

Craving both my other pregnancies were up back 2 weeks at my 12 week scans. I think a lot depends on when you ovulate, when the sperm meets egg and when the egg implants. Lots of things can affect early dates.

batfuttocks · 16/01/2013 20:30

Craving, just to agree that you probably ovulated late. And I got my bfp at 3+3 so you can't really read much into that either. Main thing is if the bloods in two days have doubled, I'll keep fingers crossed for you.

Have just sent my husband, who has only just got in from a three hour commute, into another room to eat as the stench made me retch. Poor bloke. I left him a microwave meal as I can't face cooking whilst I feel so nauseous. Not winning any good wife awards over here!

Daisy299 · 16/01/2013 20:42

Thanks OneLittleToddlingTerror LexyMa and batfuttocks (love the username!!) for the information.
I've already had my booking appointment and feeding wasn't mentioned so I wondered when it will come up.

Creamtea1 · 16/01/2013 20:58

lexy I get the same when I sneeze - feels like I have pulled something!

Cacks81 · 16/01/2013 21:13

Hi Ladies,

Can I join this fabulous thread. I had my BFP on Monday 13th and am exactly 4wks today. EDD is 25th Sept, so I'm at the tail end of this group.

Been TTC for 9 months, so still can't quite believe it and just want to tell everyone. Have a doc apt tomorrow and then straight to the parents.

I'm 31 and been married 5 months.

Are any of you feeling guilty about work? I know I shouldn't but I do. I'm a teacher and run a core department that had had big issues in the past and is now settled. So good the head teacher wants to employ more people as she now wants to invest in a good team. I feel I should tell her as she's advertising for Sept now. Best time to recruit. I feel like I'm being deceitful; however, I don't want to say so early as, well, you know.
