Sept 2013?

Hello - bit early, but I definitely had two positives this morning, wanted to check on drinking vodka this evening or not. I make due date 4th Sep 2013.
I had to terminate a pregnancy in late Sep at 13ish weeks because of incompatible with life diagnosis, so hope that doesn't happen again (I have a 25% chance but hopefully I'll fall in the 75% this time).

Kitten here you just book to see the midwife directly (no need to even see the GP). First appointment is the booking in one and takes about an hour.

Does anyone know, if you have had previous CS does that mean you automatically see a consultant at the hospital?

Kittenkatzen · 15/01/2013 17:52

Thanks girls for the info, sounds like I might not have been too far off the mark with my assumption then. daisy thanks for the tip on the nuchal test question, will have a chat with DH on that tonight I think.

Today's symptom of choice has been a niggling headache all day long Sad still no sickness yet. My clothes feel tighter too but that's obviously just because I can't seem to stop eating at the moment!

Whyriskit · 15/01/2013 18:02

Triple - yes, I was under consultant care for DS2 because I'd had a CS with DS1.
I had some bleeding today so was given an appt for an early scan. They didn't have to use dildo cam and there was a heartbeat Grin . Also small area of haematoma so hoping that goea!

TripleRock · 15/01/2013 18:05

Yes thanks Daisy for pointing out about the nuchal testing questions.

I made my booking in appointment for in a couple of weeks time, but I have asked for the midwife to call me in advance of this so I can ask her to book in my 12 week scan in plenty of time. I don't want to end up with a delayed scan like last time.

kimjayne · 15/01/2013 18:45

got my first MW appointment today! 29th Jan. Yikes, all feels real now. I will be 8 weeks by then. Will I need to wait until after this booking before I request a scan? Or can I sneakily call them and book? just worried I might be waiting ages. Also, does anyone know whether you are able to get weekend appointments!? my boss is getting a bit suss and im concerned he we figure me out if I ask for time off for another doc app.
Gosh, how do so many women keep pregnancy quiet?

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 15/01/2013 18:54

They arranged for my scans snd bloods last time. No need to arrange it yourself, kimjayne. I know what you mean by the antenatal appointments and keeping it quiet! Legally you are allowed time off for all antenatal appointments. But I really don't want to tell work before my 12 weeks result so I will be using annual leave for them. Luckily my first one is the midwife booking in, and then I guess will be 12 weeks blood and scan? I don't want to go for private scans in addition of NHS ones because I will take too many days off! But if NHS can't give me a scan at 11-13 weeks I have no choice but take another private one. I want the nuchal scan because of my age.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 15/01/2013 18:57

And as for weekend appointments I guess only if private! My experience with NHS in my area is that they give you an appointment time, and there is no easy way to change it. Basically the slot is assigned and a lot of times I was informed by snail mail! I remember ringing back to try to change times and got the reply they will allocate me another time of their choice and will be informed by mail!

MeanMrsMustard · 15/01/2013 19:23

I'm going to uclh (London) and my booking in appointment is a Saturday. They sent me a date for my first scan that I couldn't easily attend so I rang up and they were fine about changing it. I guess it must depend on where you are.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 15/01/2013 19:33

MeanMrsMustard it's a postcode lottery isn't it? The problem in my area with antenatal and baby care is they only come to the area once a week or once every 2 weeks. You basically have no choice on the day anyway. I'm not even in a rural area. I really don't know how bad it would be for someone in more rural communities!

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 15/01/2013 19:35

The every 2 week one is a hearing test for my DD. Maybe provision for that is bad in any part of the UK though.

fl0b0t · 15/01/2013 20:02

Evening all, been enjoying reading this for other symptoms etc. I am also heavily bloated, blocked up and a little uncomfortable. Grateful not to yet have experienced any kind of sickness (my SIL was sick as a dog from 4weeks onwards). I did get to say today that I was pregnant (had to cancel a hospital app for hydrotherapy) which was quite exciting.....

What's everyone here doing about telling people? I'm terrified of telling anyone before 12 weeks and that includes my bestest friends (luckily I don't see much of my two bezzies at the moment as we're all really busy with work), or my sister (who I'm not very close with currently).SIL "had" to tell us at 6wks because she was so sick. Not sure how well I'll get away with it all until 12 weeks... lots of things going on!

Also- how do people choose hospitals? There are only two in a sensible distance from my place. One is a pig to get to much of the time, but vaguely on my commute to work. The other is easy to get to and one I've been visiting a lot recently, but the same distance of about 15 miles in the opposite direction to work.......

Last stupid question- flying and pregnancy....I've read these NHS pages: www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/927.aspx?CategoryID=54#close which were pretyt useful, but I'm a bit worried. Providing all goes well, when I'm about 9 weeks, I am going on a hen do to Milan. I'm already booked and paid, and there's no drinking as many of the girls will be muslim. I'm not worried about any extreme sports and can avoid food I can't eat pretty easily. Luckily, my friend who is getting married is a doctor, so it'll be good to have her with me.... what should I do though? I will speak to my dr at my appointment next week!

Kittenkatzen · 15/01/2013 20:43

Hi fl0b0t.....wrt flying, I've looked at those and a billion other pages too and they seem to agree that it's safe as far as I can see. I have a few days in Rome booked for this weekend and am not looking to change my plans at all.

We're telling as few people as possible for now. Will probably have to tell my bezzie around 8 weeks as that's when my dry January excuse runs out! May tell parents then, or might wait and see if we can think of something fun to do with scan photos to tell them that way SmileSmile

amidwifecrisis · 15/01/2013 21:11

Booking appointment 5th Feb. Feels real now.

Daisy299 · 15/01/2013 21:18

fl0b0t, I think most airlines are just concerned about people potentially giving birth on the plane which is why they don't let pregnant women fly later on. Personally I just won't be flying long-haul as I'm at an increased risk of clotting. If anyone has had a DVT you might want to bear this in mind before you fly.

Unrelated - for those who are feeling sick, have you considered the effect of supplements? I figured out that my Boots pregnancy supplement was upsetting my stomach and causing me to feel really sick every evening. I've switched back to 'plain' folic acid today and feel a lot better. Not perfect but able to work and function normally.
I asked the midwife and she said folic acid and a good diet is all you need, so I won't be taking any more of the Boots ones.

Daisy299 · 15/01/2013 21:18

Sorry meant to say "if anyone in your family has had a DVT"

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 15/01/2013 21:32

fl0b0t you will be fine flying at 9 weeks. I went to Japan last time and I survived! That's how I missed my 12 week scan btw, as it was a 3 week holiday. I got my flights and hotel all sorted way ahead. I am low risk for DVT but I got myself those compression flight socks just in case. I even ate sushi after resisting them for days. Not sure if you can keep it from your friends if you are sick a lot though.

SGJ · 15/01/2013 22:00

I've now got booking in on Friday 25th at 8+3 and scan Friday 22nd Feb at 12+3 - very excited! Boobs not too sore today and even had a sicky feeling when doing stories tonight, hooray!
My nausea comes on as feeling starving, even when I know I'm not hungry - just having to eat little and often to prevent becoming a pregnatron fatty and having to lose 8 stone...
Glad everyone is progressing along nicely and has upcoming appointments - it's all very exciting!
Regarding birth for those worried - MAKE A FUSS. Write a birth plan that includes your concerns and don't apologise for making trouble, we all have to deal with annoying people at work and generally they have a lot less to worry about and a smaller chance of lasting damage! I had a lovely labour but it still doesn't mean no. 2 won't sting! Just know your own mind and don't have any reservations about making a fuss.
[steps off soapbox!]

kimjayne · 15/01/2013 22:19

okay, im trying not to Google my worries so thought id ask you lovely lot.. Is it normal to have really hot legs and arms (especially at night) ?? My husband said I was literally radiating heat last night. Im hoping this is just a knock on effect from bad circulation?
Should I be concerned?

I can't keep up with all you ladies posting!! Seeing the midwife on Monday, feel really nervous for some reason. Feel like I'm gonna be judged for having a wee baby and falling pregnant again Sad

Nausea has returned and I just want to crawl into bed for a week, so tired!

sepsisandAKI · 16/01/2013 09:09

Hi. Been lurking for a while but a bit scared to post! I'm currently 6+3. Excited but had a mmc two years ago so a bit apprehensive till I see some conformation. Currently though I am in hospital with my 7 year old dd who ruptured her appendix on Friday. We've been in since then, she's still not well and I'm getting a bit lonely. Feeling sickly is not helping either! Lovely to hear everyone charting about their pregnancies.

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/01/2013 09:10

MummyOfPrawn that's good to hear they'll give you another scan. I've heard such horror stories with the NHS that it's good to hear a good one. (Horrors such as what you had in Manchester where they didn't do all the screening they should. Or that the baby isn't in a position to be measured but they didn't let the mother do another scan because you only have one shot. etc etc).

sepsisandAKI · 16/01/2013 09:16

*chatting

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/01/2013 09:21

sepsisandAKI hope your DD get better soon.

sepsisandAKI · 16/01/2013 09:43

Thanks. She's normally so well. Its horrible to see her with no energy.
I haven't really been thinking about the pregnancy much ( which is maybe not a bad thing!) Can anyone suggest good maternity bras? I have quite big boobs but narrow ribcage. Are you all wearing underwired bras still?
