Thought I would treat us un a festive thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ScrambledSmegs · 09/01/2013 09:46

Ouch tock, sounds painful! I've been quite lucky with bfing both times, it's not that bad - very lucky I know. However, an NCT friend who suffered badly swore by some sort of breast pad with silver in it, to promote healing. She said the pain wasn't as bad after she started using them. I haven't a clue where you'd buy them though, sorry Sad.

And I haven't really joined the post-grads either. I feel a bit odd posting on there, I feel I know you guys much better, IYKWIM. Presumably when we all invade it will feel like home Wink

ScrambledSmegs · 09/01/2013 09:49

Oops. Fat fingers.

whims good luck for tomorrow - a few days after due date seems very early to me (13 days over here!) but I think it's worth it if you're happy. Brooking for you. Oh, and Omeprazole is great!

scarletfestivefingernail · 09/01/2013 10:09

Hey you're all welcome to join us in post-grads, bring on the invasion!

NewYearNewBoo · 09/01/2013 10:24

Hey all, quick question, does anyone else get nose bleeds?? I am averaging 2 a day at the mo :( they started when I was washing my hair too other day (head down over bath) now it goes off when I do anything like blow or rub my nose which is hard not to do as I have yet another cold:( Also worth saying I never get nose bleeds when I'm not pregnant.

clickingtock · 09/01/2013 10:44

Boo, is your BP steady? My DMa had this in pg but nothing else amiss, hth.

Whims, poor you. I got it near the end but not badly. Is it an encouraging sign tho? Hope you can take Bartlet's advice.

Little, hope it's ok for your DD to have a night with gma. I think you'll be q distracted so should fly by. Wink Olives, great that your DMa is so close. Grin

Don't know where grads live so will stick with you guys if allowed.

Smegs - glad bf is smoother for you. Wouldn't wish this on anyone, but after classic day3 weepiness + pain, I feel a bit better this morning. Astrid feeds for ages but she does also sleep well. My poor boys are both down with a cold though, so not an easy time here. V lucky that we got the birth we wanted beforehand. Smile

BrewBiscuit For all. Xxxx

TheLittleFriend · 09/01/2013 11:00

Ouchy Tock, I remember early breast feeding being agony. Not looking forward to that bit again. My dd used to feed for ages like your dd is, which I'm sure doesn't help.

Boo, no ideas about your nosebleeds, but I would probably say it warrants a call to mw, just incase it's a sign of anything they need to keep an eye on.

Olives, like you, we are very lucky and my parents are in the same town. So actually, dd will be staying put when the big day arrives, and my parents will come here to look after her. So i really am worrying for nothing! I'm just a bit of a control freak, I stress when I don't have absolute control. You can see how childbirth doesn't really fit very well with that Wink

Gen, Smegs, I think your dd's are approx same age as mine (3y 4m when due), how are they finding being big sisters? Mine is extremely excited and talks a lot about how she 'can't wait to meet her brother', but didn't seem pleased when I was holding a baby at playgroup yesterday.

TheLittleFriend · 09/01/2013 11:01

Dd is also at preschool for the first time since before Xmas, hence the epic post WinkGrin

scarletfestivefingernail · 09/01/2013 11:54

Nosebleeds throughout both pregnancies for me Boo. My mum was the same.

My blood pressure was always a little on the lower side, but I think the reason was really to do with being more congested when pregnant, plus the blood vessels expanding.

GenericDietCola · 09/01/2013 11:58

Little my DD is 3yr4mo and she is doing brilliantly. She has had some brief displays of jealousy but has been better than I expected. While I was pg she was excited but often said things like "I don't want the baby to come out" and like yours, didn't like it when I held other babies. She loves her little bro though and is always trying to kiss him!

Stacks · 09/01/2013 12:59

Hey. I need you all to come over to grads.. or I can stay here too. I feel a bit strange being the only one really posting there with a newborn and all the silly questions. They've all been lovely though, so do come over sometime!

tock I feel for you. My nipples are really sore, especially my right one - it's like fire when he feeds! However, I think I'm still lucky as no cracking or bleeding, just pain. I really need to sort out T's latch, but am struggling. First HV visit today, hoping for some advice and maybe a referral to the clinic. Went to a breastfeeding group yesterday (where everyone knew each other, with their 6mo babies). Was a bit awkward but the HV that runs it showed me a new hold. It seems to give a better latch, but requires T to hold his head up on his own for the whole time, which I think he's a bit young for. There's another group I can do tomorrow, and a La Leche on Friday. Really hoping to find a comfortable hold that gives a good latch.

T woke up and interrupted my posting, then the HV turned up (T has put on weight, up to 9lb 1oz, from 8lb 8oz at birth Grin) so I'm going to port now and read all the cross posts, then repost.

Stacks · 09/01/2013 13:21

Oh, I don't think I said congratulations tock, a lovely birth story too. I'm quite dissapointed with how everything turned out with T - I really wanted a relaxed water birth and to experience labour and delivery. I'll just have to have another baby I guess. Though I won't be low risk next time after the CS, so no MW led care? Anyway, glad everything turned out so wonderful for you.

Gen glad to hear things are going well with you and DS. They are sooo adorable at this age.

Boo it's funny how the men don't really realise how soon babies come, even though they're intelligent enough to do the math. Hope DH got his leave sorted.

mwah congratulations!

Sparkle glad your check went well, wriggly babies are the best. Hope the anti d stuff is all stress free. I don't know much about it but it seems pretty common and so should all be routine and straight forward.

Whim I'd go for the rummage, it can't hurt well, it might, but not in the sense that sentence means. Hope you don't get to the induction either way though, brooking for a spontaneous pain free labour for you.

tripple whammies hope you all have miraculously better hips etc tomorrow. The last bit of pg is hard but worth it. Not long now!

Whim I hope the heartburn is temporary because of the Christmas cake. Otherwise I second the recommendation for omeprazole. I've been on it for years. I recommend starting on the lowest dose of 10mg though. Doctors seem to start you out on 20 or 40 mg, I cut myself right down from 40 to 10 with no recurrence of symptoms at all.

Waves to everyone else not name checked. Little T is sleeping on my chest, and just did a proper upset sounding cry in his sleep. I think he must be dreaming but I want to wake him up and tell him it's all ok :( I don't like that my tiny baby can dream a bad dream :( :(

whimsicalname · 09/01/2013 13:35

stacks he's probably just dreaming you took a nipple away! Wait a month or two and he'll chuckle in his sleep and you'll cry at what a lovely boy he is.

Hope all the sore nipples clear up soon.

I thought I was going into labour last night, but it would appear excess gaviscon has a profoundly laxative effect.Fortunately I feel much better today.

tock the pg thread is in being a parent then pg clubs. You could go over there and make sure it's cosy for me!

NewYearNewBoo · 09/01/2013 19:54

Ouch Ouch and ooh, it has been 15 years since I successfully BF'd a baby and I can't really remember Ouch about the pain (except for feeding through mastitis once Shock), have already alerted DH to lanisoh and where to get it from. Big sympathy for the poorly nips.

Glad to hear all the few mummy's and brooking babies lie doing so well :)

I have an appointment with the mw next week, will mention the nose bleeds then, can't remember who mentioned bp, mine is stable but a little low.

ScrambledSmegs · 09/01/2013 23:49

I've found a few breastpads which seem to promote healing and claim to soothe. Some do both!

Pure wool

Raw silk & wool

Gel soothing pads

Sorry if it seemed like I was boasting about lack of nipple pain Blush - but to explain why I'm 'lucky' I had a shocker of an experience last time when a midwife stood over me, insisting that I bf a distraught and probably starving DD1 for about 5 hours straight when I was hooked up having a blood transfusion in the middle of the night. Finally the evil old witch midwife agreed that I had no milk, and agreed to feed her some formula for me, while I got a tiny bit of rest. But my nipples were in shreds. After they healed I had no more pain breastfeeding, and haven't ever since. I presume I've been preternaturally hardened by my experience Hmm.

BartletForTeamGB · 10/01/2013 12:15

Just popping in very briefly so can't write much but just wanted to say that I found breast shells very helpful. If anyone hugs you, they must think you are wearing a Madonna style corset with a pointy bra, but it kept fabric off my torn and bleeding nipples and allowed them to get some air and were better than ripping off the breast pads that stuck to the wound each time.

I've been having a few minor nosebleeds as well, but nothing major.

Growth scan this afternoon, so will report back later. This is our final chance to find out the baby's sex but I don't think we will.

TheLittleFriend · 10/01/2013 14:03

Gen, great to hear your dd is doing do well as a big sister Smile

Stacks, hope you sort T's latch. I found in the very early days that dd's mouth just seemed too small! They seem to learn how to do it better after a while, but take all the advice you can get too.

Good luck with scan Bartlet. Has there been an issue with his/her growth, or is this still checking baby doesn't have a missed medical condition?

I had 34wk check with Mw today. All fine, and he is already on LOA position. Just got to keep him there for the next 6weeks!

whimsicalname · 10/01/2013 16:49

Well I've just been for my rummage. Apparently I'm 1cm dilated, but the ob doesn't think that means much, so I'm still on for Tuesday. It's bookclub tonight and we're having curry, so I might put MrWhim through his paces when I get home and see if that gets things going!

RubberBullets · 10/01/2013 17:08

Whims I didn't get to 1cm until day 3 of labour Grin Fingers crossed jumping Mr Whim does the trick.

I've been watching One Born Every Minute and it is making me far too broody. I'm unemployed so can't afford another one :(

NewYearNewBoo · 10/01/2013 17:14

Ooh, Whims hope the rat smacking does the trick!!

BartletForTeamGB · 10/01/2013 18:14

whims, get back to that rat smacking! Hope it works.

34 week scan was booked for reasons that are not entirely clear as everything seemed to be fine. Unfortunately, the baby has grown a bit too much if anything and I've got borderline polyhydriamnios (excess amniotic fluid). Most likely reason (remember I do diabetes as my job!) is...gestational diabetes! Grr!

So GTT booked for next Friday morning and checking my blood sugars (I have connections to get blood sugar meters etc Wink) 7 times a day until then! I saw my consultant who is very calm and reassuring about it all and expects it all to be nothing and is happy for me to email him with results and is even fairly positive about me having a homebirth. Just need to see what all the results are.

Anyway, I am a Brooker so it will All Be Fine! Smile

Got to dash again but will catch up soon...

whimsicalname · 10/01/2013 19:13

Yuck, does that mean more of that gloopy drink bartlet?

I heard a man describing something as being like smack the rat the other day. I did such a double take at him!

scarletfestivefingernail · 10/01/2013 19:15

All will be fine Bartlet. Not long now...

whims apparently being 1cm dilated is normal for 2nd baby or more. The cervix doesn't fully close again after 1st baby so your might have been 1cm dilated for yonks. Fingers crossed the curry and the SWI gets things going.

Rubber I also felt a little broody watching OBEM last night Shock. But I definitely won't be having any more. Main reason being financial.

whimsicalname · 10/01/2013 19:47

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured scarlet.

scarletfestivefingernail · 10/01/2013 19:57

Something else that is never the same again eh whims? Grin. Add it to the list.

Withalittlesparkle · 11/01/2013 06:55

Am I the only person who watched OBEM and wanted to vomit? The babies bit was lovely but was there any need to do a close up on the blood coming out the woman's fru fru?!
