Happy new year!
We're going to visit DP's family today. There's a lot of back story for him and he's really stressed about it but I'm hoping we can make the atmosphere light and happy by telling them about the pregnancy. We haven't seen them for a year so I'm a bit nervous but hoping they'll be happy about it. Although it will probably shock his sister as his DS's are older teens and she thought he'd done with the baby stages haha!
Hope everyone had a lovely New Year's Eve, yay for 2013 less than 4 months and we'll all have an adorable new born to cuddle :).

SneezySnatcher · 01/01/2013 08:46

Happy New Year everyone! Roll on April!

enjay0811 · 01/01/2013 09:56

Happy new year ladies! I made it past 12 with a few lemonade's and splash of wine Smile. Popped into town yday too and picked up a few baby things, blankets, vests, socks, bibs and sleep bag to add to the steriliser (got cot and travel system). Argos have a baby sale on if anyone is interested with quite a few m&p strollers in sale. Need sum new Moses/pram sheets (Moses basket bein given to us) but they usually go on sale in matalan n have always been good quality so goin to wait for those. Getting really excited now! Won't b long until we meet the bumps! Grin oh, ordered the Maggie Howell hypnotherapy book too. Had the cd last time n swear by it for a more relaxed, in control birth was like a screaming banchee with dd1

Can't scroll bk for names but a friend named her ds Blake n I think its lovely. Dd is Aurelia so a bit biased with tht one! Can't decide agree on any at all ourselves yet!

Happy New Year all of you!

May 2013 be full of fun, love and everything you desire including lovely snuggly newborn babies!

Just a quick thing to think about...I was setting my sky plus yesterday to record One Born Every Minute which starts on Wednesday and realised that it is on for 13 episodes/weeks!! Now I remember last year how quickly that flew past and then I realised that at the end of this series I will be 2 weeks away from giving birth Grin Grin (or if my first DS is anything to go by and this one is prem I would have had my baby for weeks!)

Happy New Year and what a year it will be!!!

Ditto on the movements, I have loads then nothing much for a day then on the verge of getting checked out then he gets me again! Think all fairly normal but my consultant has said if you ever feel unhappy it's not normal, just go into hospital for a check, never feel silly, better be safe and get checked out!

Actually sat in cinema watching -baby product shopping on iphone- new tinker bell film with my nieces and nephew, the plan was for Madagascar 3, but I messed up the day, so now kids are very happy, DP less so, plus it cost us £33 plus snacks when was expecting kids am prices of £1.75 each, makes all my money saving attempts on baby products seem a waste-doh!

Giddypants · 01/01/2013 11:46

Happy new year ladies, I only made it to 11:30 then fell asleep, oh well !

BonaDea · 01/01/2013 12:54

Happy New Year everyone! I REALLY enjoyed my glass of bubbles. Went to bed at 11.45 but we stayed awake long enough to see midnight and hear all the fireworks going off (our two cats were less than impressed so were allowed to spend the night on our bed for once!).

I feel massive - anyone else? A few people in the last couple of weeks (both in baby shops) have asked me when I'm due and when I said April both smiled in a strained way which I interpreted as "my god you're massive". Anyone else feeling like this?!?!

Also picked up a few things in the sales yesterday - including a gorgeous half price baby sleeping bag in John Lewis. Pram, cot, mattress and other 'big things' are being purchased today online Grin

Ollibobs · 01/01/2013 13:23

BonaDea you are not the only one getting "massive" comments. When I tell people I'm due in April, they are shocked and tell me I look like I'm due in January.
Then they always ask me the same question: "Are you sure there's not twins in there?"

OComeAllYeFaithBaby · 01/01/2013 13:28

I get asked if its more than one or if I'm sure I've got my dates right?! Hmm Well my last scan was bang on for dates! I think it's just because I'm carrying all up front (although I am very aware that my arse had grown too, perhaps not obvious to everyone!) and I always had a big belly. Don't really see what business it is of complete strangers?! They are always the ones who comment!

Jsa1980 · 01/01/2013 14:35

Phew glad it's not just me with the massive comments! I'm huge! Stood next to a friend who is due in 6 weeks, I'm bigger. Still have the midwife tomorrow for my 24 week appointment (although I'll be 26 +5!).

My little one has quiet periods but whenever I think of him he gives me a boot!

Looking forward to 2023 (especially April!)

JaquelineHyOnChristmasSpirit · 01/01/2013 14:40

Jsa looking forward to 2023 are you...Do you have a big 10th birthday party planned for your little one. Now that's what I call forward planning Grin Grin

I too am massive, I went to a friends house yesterday who I haven't seen for 5 odd weeks and everyone just kept telling me how big I am. Some people I don't know looked really suspicious when I said I'm due April.

Also my own brother who I saw on the Friday before Christmas saw me on Sunday and his eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw me!

I love it finally looking properly pregnant Grin

Jsa1980 · 01/01/2013 15:56

Doh! I do mean 2013! Stupid fat pregnancy fingers!

Caladria · 01/01/2013 16:14

I don't dislike Blake, but I do think of it as a girl's name - Blake Lively.

wishfulthinking1 · 01/01/2013 18:02

Hi all-
I haven't broached the name chat with DH for a few months- we really need to, but we didn't agree last time and I'm too tired for a disagreement!

I'm really glad I have you girls- it's reassuring to know lots of people are experiencing the same thing. My little one has been a lot less kicky over the last couple of days, there's still movement- so I'm not too worried- I just feel like there's less movement.

I have a nappy question- someone up thread mentioned little lamb nappies- is anyone else planning on going down the cloth route. I've started looking into it and I'm so confused by it all! None of my friends have ever used cloth nappies so I don't have anyone 'in real life' to ask for advice. The website 'fillyourpants' does a trial pack and if you don't like it after 21 days you can send them back and you just pay a £10 deposit and p&p. I think we'll probably do that. On the other hand I sometimes think I should just buy a few and see how we go. What do you think?

Happy New Year everyone. How exciting that this year we get to meet our babies.

Thanks for all the purchasing tips. Lots of useful info for my new year shopping.

People are also expressing surprise that I'm due in April which I find weird because I''ve actually got quite a neat bump. Even the midwife said so. I think perhaps friends and family find it odd to see me pregnant as last time they saw me I had no bump at all.

Also, very annoyingly, when I do say I'm due 5th April they then say 'oh still quite a while to go then!' To me it seems so close and it depresses me when they say that!

26+4 and being kicked a lot!

Mama1980 · 01/01/2013 20:21

Hello all.
Sam again posting a update.
I don't really know how this site works or what Bec would want me to say so I won't give any details in case she wants privacy.
She became very ill but today for the first time she has been properly awake.

It has been a awful time for our whole family but we are hoping she is through the worst.
alexander is nearly 3 weeks old and is doing amazingly well. He has gained weight and has had no major complications so far. I know he is just desperate to see his mummy though.
I hope Bec can update herself soon.
Sam

Fluffeh · 01/01/2013 20:28

Agreeing with the massive comments. I was small before though around 7.10 - 8 stone and im 5ft6 but now I resemble a sumo from the waist-ish down haha!
I've already grown out of most of my pre pregnancy loose/stretchy clothes. And DP can barely get his arms round my middle but I'm enjoying looking pregnant rather than bloated.

I'm hoping to use cloth nappies. I love all the colours you can get and I think it'll be cuter too than disposables. Although I've been advised to wait until the first few really awful poo's are out of the way so they don't get stained.
I like the look of little lambs and it means we can use colourful wraps with them too. There's quite a few Facebook groups with them for sale both new and used if you'd like me to link a couple let me know :).

JaquelineHyOnChristmasSpirit · 01/01/2013 20:30

Sam Thank you so much for the update.

Please send all our love and prayers to Bec, I am thinking about her and Alexander every day. They have both done so well and fought so hard, I hope they are both fit and together very soon.

Happy New Year to you, Bec, Alexander and the whole family.

Trishstar · 01/01/2013 20:32

Thanks for the update Sam. I know we are all still thinking of Bec and Alexander every single day.

Hope she is through the worst and can properly meet her little fighter soon! Great that he is doing well.

xx

Trishstar · 01/01/2013 20:34

And yes I'm getting the massive comments/looks too when I say I'm due April x

Don't know where people think baby will be stored if you are over 6 months along! Lol

Rivergirly · 01/01/2013 21:38

Hi all

Happy New Year! So glad Bec and Alex are doing well.

I am like everyone else and been feeling huge and no room to actually eat a large meal anymore and have also been asked recently when I am due - but really when compared to my friend due a week ahead I am just fine - I only ever really get a bump and nothing anywhere else.

We are getting there with the baby purchases - really only need big items like pram and car seat now and the odd bit of moses basket bedding plus a few things for the nursery - curtains, lampshade etc!! I have been lucky to inherit back some of my baby items - things like my moses basket and baby bath -had actually forgotten who I had given them too - bearing in my mind DS2 is now 5- and a few things still look like new! Plus I have a friend and sister who have little girls and am off to see my bestie on Friday to have a look through her things to see what she has before buying any more.

I have been undecided on the pram - really loved the quinny buzz for ages but we were recently in Mothercare and now I love the Mothercare Orb pram which does come with a liner, footmuff, rainwear and is a proper pram that converts to a pushchair. It was really lightweight to push but still has nice big wheels - Ive tried my fair few pushchairs in the past - started with a single with DS1 then went through 2 doubles when DS2 arrived then back to single again when DS1 decided he wanted to walk everywhere!! The M&P pliko was fave then as it had the toddler step built in the back for when my eldest did get tired - always struggled with a seperate buggy board - Im only short and you needed longer arms to accomodate the buggy board really!! So really trying to save some funds now for the lovely Mothercare Orb in the red colour - love it!!! And I never had a proper lay down pram for either of my boys so, as this is absolutley my last bubs I will have one!!

and EEEkkk I cant believe that OBEM is 13 weeks and then our bubs will all be just about due - that time will go sooooo fast now. I dont usually watch it - only catch the odd one but was planning to this time - hoping someone may inspire my little one into a short labour - my boys were epic over 24 hour jobs and both back to back! I'm just counting down the weeks left at work now really - I have 11 weeks to work and 2 weeks hols before my maternity leave starts - I know I am organised - its on the wall planner in my office!!!! Can't wait to get out of there!! Also unsure whether I am actually going to return this time. I have been there 12 years but the last year involved a re-structure and a pay cut and not sure if missing the time at home with my new bub and the demands of school with the 2 boys are worth trying to earn a few measly pennies at work especially with the offset of childcare fees - but anyway really dont have to think too seriously about that for a year yet!!!!

xx

Great to hear about bec and Alexander, thank you for the update Sam.

Need to see the physio about getting a girdle then see the midwife on Thursday, hopefully then finally get my paper work done for my mat leave I know it's so late!
I'm hoping that I can get some holiday booked in before I need to go off sick, we're so busy at work, I just can't do it anymore.

MumofWombat · 02/01/2013 08:14

Good news about Bec and Alexander!

wishful, I use a mixture of cloth and disposable on DS. Cloth when at home and disposables if I'm out of the house for any length of time and overnight. As I'm in Oz I guess brands will probably be different but the style ones I use are pocket nappies, so two piece with an absorbent pad to go inside a pocket in the outer nappy. Even in winter they are easy to dry on the line here and I buy flushable liners online to make things a bit easier. With the modern nappies now a days you don't need to soak, and they should come with guidelines but normally they suggest to only use half the normal amount of washing powder.
I've not really had this problem (DS at 20 months old is still in 6-12 month shorts this summer, the size 1s I got in the sale last year won't stay up and just fall off of his hips - I guess they might fit next year!) but I know from one of my best friends in the UK, who only used cloth, that some baby clothes have been designed for the slimmer disposable. IIRC, Next are quite slim fitting in the bum, but Boots were more generous for the cloth user!
And another plus for cloth nappies is that DS can't undo them whereas he can easily pull the tabs on a disposable. We have turned around sometimes to find a nudeyrudey boy running around!
But then with disposables I think I might be a bit thrifty, most of my mothers group have only ever used the most expensive brand available here. Perhaps because of DS lack of bottom we've actually found that one of the supermarkets own brand fits him best. So my advice is to try different brands - don't just get sucked into the marketing that the expensive brands can pay for!
