usernamegoeshere if you want something which is easy on stairs my tip would be to be wary if Silvercross. (First was silvercross dazzle, forget the name if the 2nd one) I've had 2 for DS, and on both of them, the brakes above each back wheel sticks out and catches on every bloody step. Makes stairs very difficult indeed. Still can't believe I got talked into getting a second one!

They may have improved the design, but worth checking if you don't want to have to rely on the kindness of strangers to use stairs!

aufaniae · 27/12/2012 19:02

rosiesmartypants how exciting! A couple of good friends got us a 4D scan as a Christmas present, I can't wait.
Let us know how it goes :)

EssexWelsh · 27/12/2012 19:17

Who do we ask for matb1 form?

OComeAllYeFaithBaby · 27/12/2012 19:20

I got my mat b1 form from the midwife who did my appointment with my 20 week scan.

enjay0811 · 27/12/2012 20:27

Still not bought anythin here tattooed - need to get my arse into gear now I think! Started makin myself a list earlier today. We have a cot bed and travel system from youngest dd who is 3 (maclarens are fab btw, still have ours in addition to the travel system afta 5yrs!), have been given playgym and moses basket and as we're having a surprise, will prob jst opt for some of the basic white babygrows n vests from supermarket. Everyone wants to buy a new baby clothes when its born so saving the pennies! Only really need practical things like cotton wool, nappies, muslins, bibs...unless I've jst forgotten what new babies need!

Still havnt booked myself a 24 wk appt with mw as I'm so disorganised but thanks for the reminder of matb1!

24wks 2moro!

toobreathless · 27/12/2012 21:11

enjay if you are low risk you don't need a 24 week appt routinely for a second or more pregnancy. Just 16 weeks & 28 weeks.

toobreathless · 27/12/2012 21:22

I feel like death warmed up, full of something viral, aches, high temp, sick. Staggered through a full day of work today (started to feel rubbish at lunchtime) & probably won't make it in tomorrow which means cancelling a ful day of patients which I feel terrible about. Aaaaaarrrggghhhh!

On the plus side baby is super wriggly today which is reassuring

Apologies for me, me, me post. Off to crawl back under duvet.

lutrinae · 27/12/2012 21:44

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! Mine was super restful at my ILs, with lots of good food and I was thoroughly spoilt. Smile

Back to work today though after a terrible 5 hour journey from floody Devon. Baby protested by wriggling around loads. And after 5 days off I feel ENORMOUS.

Don't worry ratbag I still haven't bought anything and probably won't for a bit. To be fair we are being given a cot and a pushchair though. The pushchair is a second hand pilko - anyone know if they're any good? Not that we have any choice in the matter, but would be good to know in advance.

Was about to sign up to NCT classes today until I saw the price - £318 for 4 sessions. Yikes! Think we'll be going with the NHS ones. Anyone else?

toobreathless · 27/12/2012 22:12

lutraniae have you looked at ones run by an independent midwife? We paid £120 per couple for 6 sessions in 2011, she did a free postnatal visit and helped me with breastfeeding. This was Hampshire if anyone is interested- PM me.

Some points to consider when booking:

What is the class size?? For the social aspect which was really the only reason I was doing them (DH in afghan & missed them all!) you really want a small enough group that you can all fit in each others living rooms for coffee! 6 is a good number I think.

What qualifications does the teacher have? To be frank some of the NCT teachers are very poorly qualified, obvious benefit with an Midwife is that the know what they're talking about.

Where are the other couples coming from (roughly) are they local? If you are booking and they tell you people are travelling 30 mins + will this work for social get togethers after?

What is available on the NHS, we were offered two sessions run three times a year in a lecture hall. Max 60 people! Clearly no hope of meeting people. One was on pain relief in labour and one on breastfeeding & that was it! Sadly sOme areas don't offer anything at all.

HTH

MumofWombat · 27/12/2012 22:50

Reading about you guys buying things has made me realise (I know, I know, you'd think I'd be able to work it out for myself!) that its only about 3 months now and I probably need to start getting organised....
I've got the cot, change table, stroller etc already as this is DC2. We did pop to the ikea sale and got new chest of drawers etc for DSs new bedroom. All we need to do now is buy the paint. Hmmm, FIL is likely to be up from the weekend for a few days, perhaps I can talk DH into utilising his help to paint and put together furniture otherwise goodness knows when it will happen (DIY isn't DHs strong point...). Then I can do a deep clean of the nursery and start to think about putting a few outfits for this little one in the wardrobe!
I think we will only need to buy a car seat, a new cot mattress, and another baby monitor. I might do some online research....

I'm so envious of you all having winter. Not only does Christmas not feel right in 40 degrees, but feeling fat and sweaty all the time isn't doing much for me!

birdbrain17 · 28/12/2012 00:08

well I had my 25 week appt today and everything seems to be fine Smile bit disappointed to see a different midwife to normal as she was away, but as she was the one who booked the appt I thought she'd be there, she was really friendly the midwife today just seemed like she didn't know what she was doing, I had to tell her how many weeks I was because she couldn't work it out and she didn't know where to write the information from today in the notes! I've just realised catching up on everyone's posts that I didn't get my matb form I sort of assumed the midwife would offer it to me so I didn't write it on my list of things to ask. She told me because I'm a negative blood group at my next appt I have to have an injection, anyone else had this?! I told DH he better come with me as at 28 weeks you also have an iron level check and I have a phobia of needles, one is bad enough but 2 in one appointment

lutrine I'm planning on going to the free nhs classes at my hospital (royal free) if I ever remember to book in for them Wink I spoke to a friend who went to the free classes and paid for nct and she said nct was a waste of money she didn't learn anything more from them.

shopping Grin I've been having so much fun, making the most of me and DH being off at the same time to do loads of online research and some actual shopping. Picked up a few bargains in the sales for towels, neutral babygros, dummies, breast pump, blanket (in case the one I knit is rubbish) and been looking at a few buggies. The ones I liked online don't seem to be stocked near me....want to go to mamas and papas to have a look at their zoom pushchair and also quite interested in the obaby zezu pramette anyone got any views on either of these?! the guy in the shop was showing us a gorgeous silver cross 3d but read a lot of bad online reviews....and we're getting a maxi-cosi car seat from my sil.

sorry for the really long post hope people read all the way through 25+4
enjoy the rest of the hols Xmas Grin

rosiesmartypants · 28/12/2012 01:58

Never got the 4D scan....baby is breech, and the sonographer said he couldn't get a clear image Sad, however we did get a very quick glimpse of his wee chubby cheeks and pointy chin Smile.

We are going to try again in 2 weeks.

Fluffeh · 28/12/2012 08:02

Aww rosie that must have been disappointing. Hopefully baby will move and do lots of cute poses for your next one :).

I had a consultant appt yesterday which went weirdly.
First of all my BP has skyrocketed from 80/60 to 142/70. The dr was a little worried but can't do anything until they speak to my neuro team. They also want me to take blood thinning meds but can't give them either until the neuros get back to them.
This has made my DP panic like crazy, meaning he is now driving me crazy by fussing and not letting me even load the dryer - ugh!
My neuro team are ridiculously slow at replying to any other drs so I don't expect them to respond anytime soon so I guess DP is going to drive me crazy for the foreseeable lol.
In good news I have a few more scans booked in so I should get a few more peeks at my baby yay!

Missmuffet28 · 28/12/2012 09:27

Fluffeh I noticed my blood pressure has gone up maybe I was just having a bad day last two times its been 90/60 this time it was 120/80 so obv for me not normal but I guess mine must still be in normal range but she didnt say anything! Hope yours turns out to be ok too!!

SneezySnatcher · 28/12/2012 09:37

MW just been for my 'extra' BP check - it's 140/80 so still well above my baseline. That's two appointments in a row now. I've been referred to a consultant and I'm officially high risk.

MW told me as it's gone up so early this time (as opposed to 35 weeks last time) it can be more serious so I need to keep a close eye on symptoms. Depending on next appointment I may finish work early.

usernamegoeshere · 28/12/2012 10:15

Birdbrain I'm RH negative too. I got a letter in the post and a leaflet explaining it. The injection they give you is called anti D and it is to make sure that you don't produce antibodies against the RH protein since the chances are your baby will be RH positive (most people are). They give you it at the start of 3rd trimester since some women produce it then, and again after you give birth.

It shouldn't effect first pregnancy but if your blood did cross without the injection and you produced antibodies your body might attack your next baby!

25 weeks! I have gp this afternoon too.

ratbagcatbag · 28/12/2012 14:08

Hi all

I'm starting to get twitchy on the shopping now :) still have hardly got anything, I've fallen in love with the Quinny buzz 3 though and all the accessories that go with it, including seat base for car. Cone in at around £700 though, my friend had got the limited edition buzz three for sale so I think I'll buy that from her and then have all the extra bits new too ;) dpil are handing over £600 for the pram and stuff though as our baby present.

I think I need to worry more at the moment as I'm literally one of the furthest along in this group, being 27 weeks on Sunday. Eeeek.

Ok I'm now going o stop mnetting and go start boxing up some stuff from spare room to convert to a nursery otherwise baby is sleeping in a double bed. :)

steph2412 · 28/12/2012 15:42

Hi all not updated for a while birdbrain i ordered the mamas and papas zoom i fell in love with it ive got quite a bit of stuff now just the last few things to get

EmpressMatilda · 28/12/2012 16:55

Hope you all had a good Christmas. We were with DH's family and it was lovely but exhausting as there are so many of them. Back at work now, off to a wedding tomorrow and then my family are coming for New Year which I'm excited about. Mil was a bit of a pain by telling me my bumpI is too big and calling me 'obsessive' for giving up alcohol! She's really not a very subtle person.

I have stalled on the shopping for now as I really can't be doing with the hassle. My sister got us a really good book called 'First-Time Parent' for Xmas so I'm going to use their list of essentials to rake round car boot sales.

Does anyone have the maxi-cosi cabriofix car seat? I got a secondhand one but am trying to find out whether we must get a base or whether it's ok with just seat belts.

Good luck to all those with scans and injections coming up.

Almost into the third trimester. So exciting!

26 weeks today Smile

EssexWelsh · 28/12/2012 17:09

I have been in the house all day, so been surfing the web. Just bought a cot but now need to get a mattress and I am completely stumped-any advice at all what to buy? No idea where to start or what is best-foam/sprung, with plastic cover? Any advice welcome! All I know is it's 60x120. Thanks

ratbagcatbag · 28/12/2012 17:32

Oh my god, operation tidy spare room is a nightmare, on hands and knees clearing under the bed my bump get squished and the fab amazing triple floor to ceiling wardrobe is just full of ten years worth of crap Shock my house now looks like a bombs hit it and were not even a tenth of the way through.

Sod this operation bingo and then pub is commenting in about half hour Xmas Grin

Giddypants · 28/12/2012 17:37

Hello, sorry not been around for a while, but been lurking, hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, mine was ok, went to my SIL was planning on popping around to see my mum, but my FIL is in hospital and my MIL got upset when it was suggested that I be dropped off first, so I said I'd stay with SIL until DH got back.

Thinking about mama and her wee boy, hope they are both well

We've not bought anything yet, but we have a lot of unused stuff from DS just needs getting down from the attic closer to the time.
I feel indeed to get a bargain while the sales are on but I really can't face being bumped around by others, especially when I'm in pain with SPD anyway.

I informed my manager that I will be going off sick soon, but trying to plod on at the moment, she was less than impressed!

usernamegoeshere · 28/12/2012 20:34

Had my 25 weeks appt with GP, was really quick. My BP is up (started very low & has increased every appointment) but he wasn't very worried just said would keep eye on it. Its high for me rather than actually high.

Baby was being a fidget like usual & he had to chase her around with the doppler, gave up eventually after hearing heart for about 5 seconds at a time.

Otherwise I am measuring about right & he said my uterus is perfect!!

Had nothing from 16 weeks to 25, but now I have appointments with MW, consultant, Glucose tolerance, anesetist, and anti D clinic all in weeks 27 & 28 and I think I'm meant to be low risk. I might as well move in to the hospital, thank goodness for the kindle.

OComeAllYeFaithBaby · 28/12/2012 20:40

Evening all.

essex have you asked in somewhere like Mothercare?

We've been looking at travel systems. I was totally in luff with the Quinny Buzz and its on sale in Toys R Us. However I got her to try it in the boot (we only have a Polo!) and it only fits with both wheels off. Somehow I think I'll live to regret that decision if its pouring with rain etc! Anyone else got a tiny car?

Those of you who do shifts, can I ask what you're working? I've been doing long days but finding them really tiring. Today I did a short shift and found it so much better. I'm considering swapping to short shifts! Disadvantage is potentially long runs of days though. Any thoughts/experience?!

23+3

Missmuffet28 · 28/12/2012 22:04

Empress I ordered the cabriofix car seat with my quinny buzz yes it does fit with just the seatbelt it was demonstrated to me along with fitting it with base too Smile
