Poor you Trishstar. You have my sympathy. I spent all day in bed yesterday and aiming to do the same today. I'm off work now for three weeks but need to be able to look after DD on Monday as DH is working until Wednesday. Are you managing to rest?

We must get better for Christmas. There's nothing more miserable than being poorly on the big day!

NotShortImFunSized · 16/12/2012 12:17

Just wanted to pop on quickly to catch up. Huge congratulations to mama I hope you're feeling better now and out of ICU. And I hope little Alexander is doing well. You've both come so far xxx

Sorry to hear so many of you are feeling unwell. We seem to be bug free in this house for once but keeping fingers crossed we all stay well for Xmas. I hope you're all better soon.

I've spent 3 days having a huge declutter. I've given two massive boxes of toys and clothes to oxfam, sold my old Phil & Teds vibe as I'm getting a single this time and I've listed a load of bits and pieces on local selling sites. It feels so good to get rid of all my junk!

Almost done with the present shopping just a few bits to get that are always out of stock but typically the only things DS3 has asked for so have fingers crossed they get more in this week. And as yet have done no food shopping. Nothing like last minute!

On the baby front I've got all the nb clothes I will need now apart from a special first outfit. Still looking for something I like enough. I've got the Moses basket and stand and all the cotbed bedding, also started stocking up on nappies. I want to get a Bugaboo Cameleon but not buying new as they are so expensive. Keeping an eye out on eBay and Gumtree for a bargain!

Now off to finish tackling my washing mountain. It never ends Grin

Thanks Sneezy! I'm on day off today so wrapping all presents but I still have work! Only have Christmas Day off but as long as staffing allows I have nearly a week off after 28th December.

Need it!

trishstar ah I remember the days of retail christmas working... ack, don't envy you. It'll be worth it having the week off over new year.

empress sorry to hear about your DH, hoping it leads to something better for him. My brother was fired about a month ago and has recently landed his dream job, he's the type that needs a rocket up his arse to get moving on things, he wouldn't have applied otherwise.

sorry to everyone suffering with colds/sore throats... you don't realise how much you rely on typical cold and flu relief remedies. I've been loving hot ribena [particularly the strawberry one] full of vit c and feels good on my tender throat. If you add a dispersable paracetamol it makes all the achey bits feel better for a while.

The only reason to go gentle on the Vicks, is because some of the menthol ingredients in large quantities are supposed to trigger labour [thyme for example] but I'm not sure I hold much by that... Otherwise it'd be recommended to encourage induction Xmas Hmm.

Just finished DD's second birthday party with DH's family, it was lovely and the niece and nephew had fun playing with all her toys. Her actual birthday Tuesday and she is having some friends over for lunch after swimming. Made a delicious huge malteser cake. It is chocolatey heaven.

Lots of kicks this weekend, DH hadn't been able to feel them, but thought he'd try listening to the heartbeat instead, supposedly you can now hear this by just putting your ear to the bump. He got a kick in his ear for his efforts, which thoroughly excited him. This morning while lazing in bed, my bump was actually moving from the kicks, which had him super excited, DD wasn't that impressed though.

Missmuffet28 · 16/12/2012 18:32

I haven't read all post properly but just had to say mmmmmm malteaser cake how yum does that sound!!! Care to share recipe? or is it a secret one Wink I have tues to thurs off and quite fancy making a cake for Xmas and malteaser cake sounds right up my households street!! X

KelleStarOfWonder · 16/12/2012 18:42

It's a Nigella recipe, but I couldn't find the right book so googled it and went with this one which was the closest to what I remember. It is really really tasty and half the cake served 10 of us, I didn't use the egg in the icing, but it was fine. I also only had ovaltine in the house rather than horlicks. I have done it lots over the years and it is rather yummy.

Great news is I have half a malteser cake leftover... mmm

Missmuffet28 · 16/12/2012 18:55

Oh my it looks amazing too!!! Thanks I am certainly going to have a go at that this week! Always have a fruit cake and it never gets eaten bet ya a choc one will though!!
I may have to pop to shop in a min now also to satisfy my absolute need for malteasers since I came across your post! I'm sure most of you understand hehe!!

Teapig · 16/12/2012 21:12

Wow, the malteaser cake looks amazing. Just added that to our Boxing Day menu.

We've finished decorating our living room for Christmas today and it looks very festive. Can't wait to start on the Christmas cooking now, making apple and cranberry chutney tomorrow.

One Christmas dish I'm making is vegetarian pate but I saw that you can't eat veggie pate when pg because of the listeria thing. However I can't see where listeria could crop up in the receipe I have I can't see listeria could crop up, it doesn't contain eggs or anything, anyone where the listeria risk comes in with veggie pate?

Sending well wishes to every suffering colds.

Hello Ladies!

DD and I have spent the weekend down south visiting friends and family. We are staying tonight with one of my antenatal group from DD and having a joint Xmas party for the 5 'babies' now 19/20months tomorrow (I have annual leave.)

Feeling a bit fed up with some of my other friends as very sadly a few seem to be having problems TTC. Which is heart breaking clearly and I like to think I am very sensitive to their feelings. I'm annoyed though as I keep getting comments along the lines of 'you only have to look at your husband to fall pregnant' said in jest but with undertones IYSWIM. They seem to have all forgotten the fact that we lost out first pregnancy to an ectopic while DH was in Afghanistan & I now only have one tube. So yes I know we are doubly blessed to be expecting our second & I wish they'd just shut up! Anyway rant over!

Work is going well. I LOVE my job. Bump had two blessings from patients on Friday a Christian one and a muslim one! Both along the lines of 'god bless you and keep you safe' despite not belonging to either faith it was very sweet and I appreciated it. I also had a beautiful hand crocheted white shawl given to me by a patient. Lucky bump!

Bump is huge here and I'm getting myself worked up about the risk of shoulder dystocia & I have no idea why! DD was 8 lb 8 so not of elephantine proportions but I just feel much bigger... This might be a second pregnancy thing. I haven't seen the midwife since 16 weeks and won't until 28 weeks so will discuss my concerns then. I might book a private growth/presentation scan at 36 - 38 weeks but then I read an article saying that mothers estimates of how big a baby is going to be are as accurate as growth scans. Aaarrgh!

Right off to do a spot of name checking and rotting up of scans and will post again.

bext · 17/12/2012 04:27

Oh insomnia... How do we love thee? Let us count the ways... Oh no, there are no ways in which this is good. Especially on a Sunday night before a busy week!

Tattooed sorry you're also awake with an uncomfy bump.

Scan on Thursday, really looking forward to that milestone. Spent the weekend with MIL who is desperate to start shopping, as it my mum. Have been given lots of bits and bobs so need to work out what big stuff we need.

Roll on Christmas - sounds like we all need a good break!

And thoughts as ever to mama and Alexander.

Insomnia rules here too. Ds shed 2.6 has finally started sleeping through the night without getting up at all!!!!! And I now wake before 5am regularly. Drives me mad!

MincePiesAndBaileys · 17/12/2012 06:18

My scan is this morning too!

Fluffeh · 17/12/2012 07:37

Urgh to insomnia!
I sleep fantastically from 11 - 3am and then I'm wide awake till I decide to get my lazy self out of bed lol.
It doesn't help having a crazy hamster who chews the bars at the top of her cage from 2am until I get up. Think ill swap her for a goldfish haha!
I am so unprepared for Xmas it's scary. We still have DP's DS1and DSS1&2 to buy for plus his step GS and we're rather skint too :(.
I'll be spending lots of time baking this week for special cake presents for close friends and family that always cheers me up.
Good luck for scans today! :)

Mama1980 · 17/12/2012 08:19

Hello.
This is sam again with a quick update. Alexander is doing very well, the doctor says very much as well as he can be. They are being very positive and he did not decline during the 48-72 hour danger zone at all. He is beautiful and strong and we are all very hopeful.
Bec is still in intensive care.
I will update again soon.
Thanks
Sam

lili86 · 17/12/2012 10:37

Thanks for the update on Mamas behalf Sam. Glad to hear Alexander is staying strong and hope Bec, is well soon. I think this is her bodys way of resting after everything she has gone through.
Such an inspiration and i wish them both love, strength and happiness.x

itsaruddygame · 17/12/2012 12:33

Thanks for the update on mama and Alexander Sam.

I am so glad the little one is doing so well and hope that your sister is out of ICU soon and on the mend. They are both in my thoughts often.

birdbrain17 · 17/12/2012 13:10

So glad to hear good news from people and those of you who are feeling rubbish you have my sympathy and feel better soon [mn hugs] Brew
Drove to manchester and back yesterday (from london) for my best friends wedding, despite spending most of the evening sitting down as I was scared to fall or something stupid and hurt myself and bump, and sleeping in the car on the way home I feel ill from tiredness today, I'm all shaky and have no patience for any of the kids I teach, can't wait to get to bed, I think it's gonna be takeaway for supper tonight no way I'm cooking!!!!

I seem to have a really hyperactive bump it seems to spend all day wriggling and it doesn't wake me up at night, but if I do wake in the night I can feel it kicking then as well. Hope it's getting itself nice and tired so when it's born it'll sleep loads Wink

24+1 Grin (yay over the 24 week mark!!!!)

Teapig · 17/12/2012 18:42

So pleased to hear that Alexander is doing well. Thanks very much for the update Sam. Sending best wishes to mama for a speedy recovery. They are both so strong I'm sure they'll be home before long.

Pretty certain I felt movement last night and again today. So glad to feel something at long last, woohoo! Have my MW appointment tomorrow so hoping everything will be looking nice and normal.

Yay for spot on measurements and hearing a lovely strong heartbeat jesse.

mincepies hope your scan went well today.

LoobyLou33 · 17/12/2012 22:01

Trishstar · 18/12/2012 08:18

Hey everyone. Still so flued up. Keep expecting to feel better but not yet :-(

Great news about Bec and Alexander. Thanks for the update Sam, still praying for them.

Had MW appt yesterday but cos of high blood pressure in last couple weeks (work stress Confused), she wants to see me sooner! She kept asking me if I feel depressed too? I said I'm not just stressed with everything at work and my uncooperative/ever absent team!

On the plus side 23w today! Woohoo xx

growyourown77 · 18/12/2012 08:19

Quick poll: anyone else getting bad acid reflux / heartburn and got and natural remedies please?!

I've never had it before and it's pretty constant, not just triggered by food. It's out me right off eating, but I'd like to look forward to Xmas food. Smile
