Morning all,

Joining in age discussion I'm 28 & DH 33, due to seeing so much work related badness and having PCOS I'd convinced myself would take years to get pregnant, only for me to be 36 weeks for our first wedding anniversary in Feb ( have been together 6yrs though).

On the subject of older mums, mine was 42 when she had me (which was seen as ancient then) and she might actually qualify for best mum in the world if it wasn't for the incessant amount of fussing and worrying! She had the patience of a saint something I have not inherited, loads of great life experience & stories & she now looks like she's about 55! She swears I kept her young but I think it's the fact she's always under an inch thick layer of the newest, best reviewed anti-wrinkle creams!

Got delivery of the nursery wallpaper today....it's all starting to get a bit real!!

theTramp · 07/01/2013 10:40

Morning everyone and hello new ladies.

I was awake all night shivering one minute, sweating the next. I'm feeling dreadfully sorry for myself. I obviously drifted off for a couple of hours so I've had some sleep but days of being ill now rank higher than well for last month. Nasty cold is an understatement. Sorry moan over.

SoYo · 07/01/2013 10:42

Welcome plonko, we can definitely squeeze you in with the Marchers! I'm planning on having this bub at the end of feb anyway in my head, when I go in fully and have minimal pain and no stitches, a girl can dream xx

plonko · 07/01/2013 12:28

Tramp I had an awful night's sleep too. Awake for 3 hours from 3-6 with back and hip pain. Sorry to say I unintentionally kept DP awake and will have to make an extra lovely dinner to say sorry - I'd hate to have to work after so little sleep. I hope your cold improves soon, everything just seems amplified when you're pregnant.

SoYo your birthplan sounds similar to mine! Anytime after the first week of Feb, and before the 1st of March please. Oh and I've booked a sneezebirth, I've tried explaining to baby.

I've inspected our stocks of baby clothes and we have no bottoms to go with the cute t-shirts my sister gave us I think we're a bit low, so I think I'm going to pop into town to see what I can find. And maybe some paint for the nursery? Grin

LaurenCaddy · 07/01/2013 16:06

Afternoon Ladies,

Hope all is well with growing bump babies.

Picked up my Emma's Diary packs today, they are a little naff tbh :/ And the same things in both packs. And the coupons are out of date. Not to fussed about some fo it, but i do use Vanish, and a saving of £1.50 is a saving of £1.50 which can go on chocolate om nom nom!

Had a lovely bath this morning, started putting baby oil in followed by talc, then bio oil during the day, it really makes my skin soft and moisturised, see if we can limit the stretch marks. So far so good, not one in sight! Shall not get my hopes up to much, i would like a couple tbh :)

Also noticed the paint is bubbling on the ceiling and there's a perfect straight line of wet. These apartments are literally 3 months old! So got to get onto Raglan about this.

Used by bump to get a seat on the bus this morning, felt a little bit guilty, but i think with some of the potholes around in some of the villages i would of landed flat on my face!

Em2010 · 07/01/2013 20:48

Hey All, sorry again for neglecting the thread a bit recently! Just been trying to catch up a bit.

Welcome to newcomers!! its great to have you on board.

Interesting to hear how old everyone is and your stories- this is dc2 for me, I am 29 (will be 30 soon but not discussing that! Hmm) Met dh when I was 18 and spent 8 years persuading him to have a baby! In hindsight dh was right and I'm glad we waited but that's just what suited us. All my mum friends are older than me, most in their mid or late thirties but that might be a reflection on the area we live in.... Most have had good careers before starting their families.

Anyway first day back at work here after a long Christmas break and feeling absolutely shattered! Need to write some thank you cards for Christmas presents and head to bed before I do it all again tomorrow! Roll on maternity leave !

lannyshrops · 07/01/2013 21:17

manda you need whooping cough by 28 weeks, I'd call your GP
if I were you xxx

ThreeForTea · 07/01/2013 22:36

Another one shattered by return to work! Had been hoping to sort of coast till mat leave, but seems that because they know I'm going soon are wanting to squeeze every last drop out of me before I go. Still nice to be wanted.

Lots of new people, very fun :) this thread has always been so lively!

Had a stand-off with dh today when I got home from work about who would give dd her tea. I lost, his pathetic 'im so tired' act was very frustrating so am just up here on the moral high ground right now. He put her to bed later on though, and went to sainsburys afterwards so haven't been too hard on him since :) Do dream of a world in which there's a fair allocation of chores in my house, but don't hold out too much hope for near future!

Sorry to post twice!

StormyBrid · 07/01/2013 22:46

Welcome to all the new ladies.

The man's having a grumbly tummy this evening. He just announced that he's suffering from "sympathy branston hickey thingies"!

backwardpossom · 07/01/2013 22:46

Whooping cough jab is between 28 and 38 weeks, not by 28 weeks Wink

theshooglypeg · 07/01/2013 23:13

Yes, I've just had my whooping cough jab last Friday and was 31 weeks that day. I'm just back from my very first NCT class. It was good, a nice group and I liked the instructor. And now I know more than I ever expected to about the mechanics of childbirth - complete with demonstration of a doll going through a plastic pelvis!

theTramp · 07/01/2013 23:22

I though WC jab was 28-32 weeks. Anyway, one to book in soon ladies.

Dr called, bloods are back and my iron is low. Explains zilch energy, still suffering colds etc. and this despite taking pregnacare & being iron rich focused with food. Methinks as Socs grows & cold battling goes on the ole iron requirements are just that bit higher. Annoying, ESP as at last check they were grand so I hadn't thought about the obvious - doh!

Hoping to sleep tonight. Have heroically managed to remain awake all day, once up, propping open eyes with matchsticks, just to be sure I'd be exhausted. So here goes nothin...

backwardpossom · 07/01/2013 23:52

Nope, definitely 28-38: from the NHS Choices website - "All pregnant women are now offered vaccination against whooping cough when they are 28-38 weeks pregnant. This is due to the sharp rise in the number of whooping cough cases in the UK."

link

sarahs999 · 08/01/2013 03:20

Just to clarify the whooping cough thing - ideal time is between 28-32 weeks but you can get it up to 38. That's also from nhs choices website. Reason is that your body needs enough time to pass on the antibodies to baby - so I'd you're delivering early, the sooner the better.

lannyshrops · 08/01/2013 07:22

I knew I'd got the 28 from somewhere! I remember popping it in my desk diary which is clearly still in work and remember the 28 but not the 32, probably because I had mine at 28 weeks. I think I'm right in remembering that it takes a few weeks for immunity to pass over?? As your having twins manda I would prob have soon as you only have 5 weeks is it left? My GP sent a reminder but I believe not all of them do.

theTramp · 08/01/2013 08:57

It's on my "to do this week" list. My to do this week list is about a months worth of work. I'm drowning! Ah well.

LexiandBeanette · 08/01/2013 09:29

Tramp that is exactly what happened to me with iron. I've been taking my pregnacare + a half daily dose of Floravital and upped the green veg content (also eating more red meat than normal but I think you are veggie?). Also taking my supplement seperate to food with orange juice to increase absorption of iron. Am feeling better for it and got rid of cold, though must admit return to work + NCT class has knackered me out! MW did say that it's normal for some women just to be really tired at this stage, especially if working full time/commuting etc.
V frustrating.
Had a bit of a surprise at NCT class - walked in to see an ex colleague with his fiance! Enjoyed the class though I think me & DH were one of the older couples. Our class leader is also training to be a MW and knows the local maternity services really well which is great.

londonlurker · 08/01/2013 11:52

hello - i am another one coming out of the woodwork i'm afraid - have been following for a while but have had nothing much to say as everything has been quite uneventful so far! but was starting to feel a bit like a stalker so thought i'd say hi. i'm a first timer, due on 11th march & it is apparently a girl. greetings all!

Em2010 · 08/01/2013 12:03

Ah tramp I feel your pain with regards to the long to-do list!

I'm 32 weeks now and haven't had my WC jab yet. Need to go and pick up a prescription at lunch so will try and get it booked then. Thanks for the reminder Ladies!

Glad your NCT classes have been good Lexi and hoogly - I really enjoyed meeting other couples and i'm definitely going to miss having that group of support this time around.

Also had a bit of a wobbler at DH last night as he is trying to book a trip for us to go and see his friends who live 2 hours away next month. This is in addition to my BF inviting herself to stay for the weekend at the end of this month, DH having to go into hospital for a small op, my birthday and a friend's wedding all in the next few weeks. Enough!! I really don't want to do any of it! It's not that any of it is awful (well apart from his op!) but I just want to be left alone to prepare for the baby but he doesn't seem to get that and makes me feel like the unreasonable one. Sorry for the rant!

Hope everyone is having a good day.

theTramp · 08/01/2013 13:56

Em - funnily enough I am presently trying to arrange a weekend away with besie mates before baby arrives and earliest free weekend is.. March. Gulp! I can't say I mind too much, but I'm starting to realise why it may be that I get a wee bit run down..

Lexi - seems Pregnacares not enough so I've additional iron supplements to take. So daily liquorice for me to avoid the joys of constipation methinks ;)

Hello there london

I've not booked NCT classes and can't say I particularly feel like doing so. Apart from meeting people (whatevs) are they any use at all?

LaurenCaddy · 08/01/2013 14:44

Afternoon all ladies

Sorry to hear about pains/aches and trouble with sleeping.

Had a wonderful burst of energy this morning, and has vacuumed, mopped, washed up, done 2 lots of washing so far, dealt with a few phone calls and still feeling pretty good, so i think i'll give myself a pat on the back :)

All that's left to do is discuss where to open an e-ISA for our upcoming littleun, and have a lovely discussion about putting our baby on the organ donation list. Seems a bit grim, but as someone on the donor list and i have seen children die because there's not enough children on the list, i think it's rather an important conversation. Anyone else had this convo, or planning this convo with there OH?

Jacket Spud for me now :)

plonko · 08/01/2013 18:09

Evening ladies.

I've had a bit of a frenzied day today, moving various (smallish) bits of bedroom furniture around to make space in our room for the cot. It looks lovely, but I think ill be having a nice soak in the bath after dinner to as a reward. It feels nice to have it done though.

I'm not doing nct classes (like Tramp I kinda think 'whatevs') but am doing NHS ones seeing as they're free. First session today and didn't find it too informative. It was nice to have a proper medical person explain that pregnant women need massages, so dp has no excuse, and worth it to see the look on his face when he found out what an episiotomy is... Grin. I was very frustrated by two other mothers and their henpecked husbands when they came over all judgemental about any medical assistance whatsoever during labour. Hmm, I kind of hope they're not at the next session!

Tramp and lexi I hope you feel better soon.

lauren eISA yes! That's another thing to add to my growing to-do list!

LaurenCaddy · 08/01/2013 18:44

Haha plonko! We are doing NCT ones as well as NHS ones. I look forward to judgmental people at mine. Muhahaha. I dare them to challenge me, i dare them.....

I wrote about NCT classes in the Pregnancy forums the other day, Kirstie Allsopp has completed blasted them basically, and was getting different point of vies. There are some good stories people have told on there about there experiences, what they've found good and not and a comment or 2 from NCT teachers of the classes. I think it's on the first page still if you want to read up on them tramp :)
