leniwhite · 30/12/2012 11:06

I should've come here when I was up at 2am! My sleep pattern is completely ruined. Not looking forward to going back to 6am starts after NYE...

We're renting and the landlord won't take the double bed out of the second bedroom so no nursery for my little boy Hmm Hoping he'll be ok in with us for the first few months and then maybe we'll finally buy somewhere outside of London. Thinking Sevenoaks as we can get a 3 bed house for less than a crumby studio here!
I'm due 26th March but his nibs is on the large side so I have a feeling he'll be early. We're in a research study about vitamin D so I've had an MRI of baby which was utterly amazing - saw his brain and organs in detail and was so reassuring knowing he's all perfect. Should have another one in a few weeks and one after he's born plus a developmental assessment when he's a bit older. We also volunteered to have a sample of his blood taken from the cord after the birth to help research for prem babies, not quite as interesting but still worthwhile Grin

I woke up starving despite having almost a whole tub of ben and jerry's at 2am...

theTramp · 30/12/2012 11:09

I am miffed because shoppping has been delivered and cinamon and raisin bagels have been substituted for normal bagels. Why would I want normal bagels?! Harumph.

SoYo · 30/12/2012 13:12

Hi everyone!

Is it too late for another newcomer? 1st DC and due 5th March. 28/40 was my shopping landmark and since then I have a) started letting myself believe this is all real and b) started shopping up a storm! Pram, car seat on order, all friends with DDs lofts and garages raided, bought first bits of clothes the other day and have ordered a few bits in the sales...DH at work for 24hrs so might sneakily order changing bag and high chairy thingy in a sale while he's out!

Really need to start on nursery, paper stripped but no further progress until yesterday when colour scheme and few bits decided on (not sure what type we're having!).

Also really should get on and do something today but other than quick walk around the park, me and puppy-monster are spending the day on the sofa browsing MN sans and watching rubbish TV.

Oodhousekeeping · 30/12/2012 16:49

I really wouldn't worry about getting a nursery sorted. It's much easier to have them in with you and it's advised for first 6 months anyway.

SoYo · 30/12/2012 17:26

No I know and they'll be with me in Moses basket for first few months but will still need to use the nursery for feeding haven, changing/dressing, storage of bubba stuff etc plus as hard as it is to get it sorted now, I'm sure it'll only get more difficult with combo of bubba + puppy-monster!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 30/12/2012 18:16

Hi all

My friend has the uppababy vista, it's a lovely pram!

Just been doing a bit of family visiting and now just relaxing at my brother's before the stew and yorkshires are ready. Mmmmm. Then will drive back to york this evening after tea.

Hope you're all having a lovely NYEE! Grin

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 30/12/2012 18:16

Welcome SoYo too!!!

sundaesundae · 30/12/2012 18:23

Spent the day at home on my own with a minging cold. We are going away tomorrow for NYE (just for the night) and I have to be better!! DH went to see his sister all day, was a bit miffed but what can you do?

Just eaten a dinner of crackers with philly and smoked salmon, was delicious but I suspect not very healthy!

Can't believe it is back to work Wednesday :( only 8 weeks to go till mat leave... though I still can't believe I am actually going to have a baby...

GrottyPotPlant · 30/12/2012 19:10

Oh lord, we're going to be nursery less for a good while- DP works at home, so the second bedroom is his one and only place of work. So we either need to find him an office elsewhere, or move, or declare him a SAHDad befor the babe gets a room of their own. My Mum is agitating for a move, but little does she realise that we are Never Moving Again...

We've been saying after christmas for getting sorted too- and we are observing the full 12 days of Christmas, so that means after the 6 th of Jan round here.
And the first job is getting a new bathroom fitted double quick...

LexiandBeanette · 30/12/2012 19:17

sundae sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish, get well soon.
Another one here with the hunger - for the past month I have been eating so much and my appetite is only now beginning to slow down. Am giving myself a good talking to and will be eating a better range of food from Jan 1st as diet is currently a bit too dependent on granary bread with tonnes of butter and Lindor!
All the DIY/nursery talk sounds amazing, so exciting! We'll go baby shopping next Sat at 32 weeks and get other bits online. Then to work out where we will wedge it until we get the loft extension complete (end May, I hope, if the new builder's quotes come in OK). We've been given a few lovely things already so DH's study is overrun with plastic bags!!
Went out for a walk at Hatfield Forest today. Lovely and fresh and muddy but my slim, runner husband was horrified at how slow and ungainly I am now. Managed only 2.5k in 40 minutes and was done in, really enjoyed it though and am so glad we went out.
NYE will be another night in the two of us, think I will cook something special and allow myself a small glass of champers! 2013 is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster ride! Hope you all have a lovely evening tomorrow :)

leniwhite · 30/12/2012 22:07

Dodging all the bugs around has been hard work this year! I've kept thinking I was getting a cold for it never to materialise, but my nose is still permanently blocked and bloody.

Trying hard to walk a lot but the ungainliness is tough eh? I live 20 mins from the station and my office is 20 mins the other side plus walking between tube lines, adds up to about an hour and a half every weekday in total. Anything outside that feels too much. Still haven't even taken my yoga dvd out of the case... Shock

pudtat · 31/12/2012 06:54

Morning ladies. Up bright and early so I can drop my DH to work (his car has broken down again - argh! - we only got it back on Christmas Eve Sad. Hopefully today they will be able to tell us what's wrong and how hideously painful expensive it will be to fix) and get back home in time to pack the cat up for a trip to the vets for grooming (she is a long haired type and in this permanent damp it turns into dreadlocks) and me off to the Midwife Led Unit for my anti-D and hopefully a sneaky peak at their birthing pool, which I rather have my eye on.

Your walking puts me to shame leni, a wander round the shops on Saturday took me the better part of 6 hours, when I would normally have expected to knock it off in 2 and my back was very tired afterwards. Mind you, have found my secret weapon in such circumstances is the heated seats in the car - bliss at the end of a long day! Smile

mandasand · 31/12/2012 07:08

Another rough night's sleep. Didn't get to sleep till 4am the night before, and was supposed to be going to pub last night but by 8 or 9 I was a bit of a wreck and DH literally had to put me to bed. Had ok sleep till about 4am and have been tossing and turning since so thought I may as well get up and be productive! DH has realised the importance of my afternoon 'pregnancy naps', which I've not been having regularly since he's been on holiday and so he's set an alarm for 4pm for the next two days to put me to bed! Feel like a child?but I clearly need a bit of tlc at the mo!

Lexi, very glad to hear loft extension is back on track! FX for new and sensible quotation. Sounds like we may be doing kitchen around same time as your extension? Very jealous of your walk in the forest! I'm so restricted with walking at the mo Sad We were planning on staying in tonight, just the two of us, but as I didn't make it to pub last night we may try to get to our local early on. No idea how busy it will be. It's tucked away in an old village, just near the Thames but surrounded by suburbia, so people tend not to go who don't know about it as it's slightly off the beaten track. I'm sure we'll be able to get a seat for an hour or two...

Leni the research study sounds fascinating, especially the MRI scans. How wonderful! I've been suffering with my nose too. Breathing is noisy and when I sleep I breathe through my mouth and have to wake hourly to drink as it gets so very dry. Had a problem, now resolved, with bloody teeth, but dentist said it's just hormones making our increased blood supply come nearer to the surface or something. So, same logic with nose. I'm really hoping we'll be back to our usual selves in a few months time. Getting to the stage where I want my old body back!

Tramp totally with you on the bagels. C&R or nothing, frankly!

Welcome SoYo! I am also due 5 March, but it's twins so they will prob arrive in mid-Feb from what I understand. We too are having babies (together in one cot) in our room for as long as needed (or till they get too noisy - apparently babies are v. snuffly?!) but it's going to be great to have the nursery ready this week so I can start washing / sorting all the stuff we've been given. Friend is also giving us her nursing chair which can go in there and same friend has also given us her changing station which I will definitely want up with the other furniture before birth.

Grotty (are you new too? welcome if so!) in a similar situation to you in that I work from home most of the time. We have three bedrooms. The second bedroom was my study and the guest room with a fold-out futon; the third box room was my DH's man cave (he works in office environment). I've condensed the space I take up in my study and he - bless him - now has a wall and a new slimline desk there. It's nicer than I thought sharing! Babies will have to share box room for first couple of years! We're also doing double-quick house renovations, hoping for double-glazing before babies arrive, tho we've left it too late, I think, for the kitchen, alas, so that will be spring. Possibly we've time to paint either/or bathroom or our bedroom, both of which we've made a small start on. Good luck with new bathroom!

backwardpossom · 31/12/2012 09:53

Morning! I'm off to get my whooping cough jab. Joyful...!

Rainbowbabyhope · 31/12/2012 11:41

Just booked my birth pool which will be delivered on 22 Feb! Decided on an all singing and dancing one with heater and filter so that I can float in it to my hearts acontent for the weeks leading up to the due date.

manda my DH and I share an office at home too and its wonderful - I found it much better than being on in the spare room on my own. Some people can't believe that we are happy to spend so much time together (pretty much 24/7) but compared to the long days I used to do away at the office I think its fantastic!

Still undecided about the whopping cough vaccination. I have been reading up on the decision to introduce it (e.g. see committee minutes here www.wp.dh.gov.uk/transparency/files/2012/09/Pertussis-teleconference-minute-to-committee-v4.pdf) and it just seems a bit rushed to me - we are ultimately the test subjects and there is no evidence as yet that it actually provides the protection to baby that its supposed too. If I do decide to have it, I will get it as close to 38 weeks as possible but if not then I will just practice what most cultures do as a matter of course i.e. keeping the baby's contact with others (including family) to a bare minimum in the first 8 weeks. Such a hard decision either way though!

Oodhousekeeping · 31/12/2012 13:00

I don't believe the vaccine is a risk to baby. Only concern is that it doesn't work but that's always possible with any vaccine. The vaccine is the one my 8 week old will have.

Oodhousekeeping · 31/12/2012 13:03

Sorry posted too soon. I'm probably immune as my mum had WH recently but am not risking it.

Am at hospital this afternoon. Getting fed up with appts now. Am on at least one a week!

backwardpossom · 31/12/2012 13:09

Well I've had it. It was a bit sorer than the flu jab and my arm is aching already. Rubbish. Still, a good excuse to get DH to make lunch, right? Xmas Smile

mandasand · 31/12/2012 13:28

defo, possom! mine was more sore than the flu jab but it passed v.v. quickly.

sorry you're up at the hospital so often, ood. hope it's not too far away in this awful weather (at least it is awful here in oxford).

that's exciting about the birth pool rainbow!

hoping to stir dh into making up some of the nursery furniture this afternoon, after we've done a teeny bit of edging / finishing in the nursery. exciting times! ooh and the jojomaman order arrived today - got baby bunting, two big and cheerful storage bags (not sure what for yet but prob for clothes they have yet to grow into) and a breastfeeding dress - which is absolutely fine to wear even if my boobs aren't up to the job - all for under £40 in the 50% sale.

Sheldonella · 31/12/2012 13:49

Afternoon everyone and welcome newbies :) Hope everyone is having a nice NYE.

Our cot was delivered this morning (at 7am on the dot - amazing John Lewis). I have also ordered a lovely bed in a bag set from Mothercare for it which should come next week. Your JoJoMamanBebe order sounds like a bargain manda. I only spent £19 on wooden letters and a nursing top but mine isn't here yet. I'm going to have to hide mine from visitors as it spells out the baby's name and it is still a secret :) My changing bag has arrived today too. Loving the sound of your nursery. Will you post pics?

I have my whooping cough jab on 4th Jan. I hope I don't end up too sore! Was it a big jab possom?

Baby has just been sticking her legs out of my side but stopped as soon as DH tried to film it!

Happy new year!

mandasand · 31/12/2012 14:12

hehe, that's one camera-shy baby, sheldon! yes, will definitely post pics of the nursery as love sharing things like that Smile prob later this week once we have furniture in there and stuff. (doing an Ikea run tomorrow in the hope of getting two white chests of drawers in the sale.) must try to dig out the cot and crib mattress supplier that pink recommended as the best - does anyone remember what it was called?

Vivee74 · 31/12/2012 14:46

Happy new year from Australia... 2013 will be a great year for us alll. Can't wait to finalise nursery and meet the cherub in march.

Trying to keep track of everything while I am away. Having a great time, but got my second cold complete with Rudolph nose, ulcers on tongue and cold sores... Beautiful. Think I prefer a winter cold because feeling doubly miserable..

Ps I'm another accountant..

Rainbowbabyhope · 31/12/2012 14:56

ood I understand the vaccine (Repevax) is not the one that they give to 8 week old babies but one they give to older babies - this is apparently a bit of misinformation that is out there. There is also a concern that having the vaccine means that the vaccines your baby gets will actually be less effective - identified by the committee themselves (although the risk is unproven). I generally dislike being experimented on - there are absolutely no studies at all about risks to the baby. If its a matter of keeping the baby away from people for 8 weeks to provide it with protection that doesn't seem like a big ask compared to potential unknown risks of a completely untested vaccine, especially as its the most sensible thing to do in any case to protect newborn from the hundreds of other potential infections etc.

I am just cautious as it seems incredibly reactionary response to just 13 baby deaths in one year. Compare this to the 11 babies are stillborn every single day in this country (one of the highest stillbirth rates in Europe) and yet very little money is invested by NHS to preventing or researching these stillbirths.

Having said all that - I am still considering having it!

backwardpossom · 31/12/2012 15:38

sheldon no, it wasn't really all that bad. I didn't look at it really! Just an achy arm now, it was fine. Exciting about your cot arriving! :)

waves to Vivee

Oodhousekeeping · 31/12/2012 16:09

manda 20-30 mins drive + needing someone to take me as I can't walk from the car park ( steps & 5 min walk too much) so not that convenient!
