Thought we should have a shiny new thread.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Clarella · 24/11/2012 23:08

I fully agree with stacks honey.

Someone else had a aibu q before.... about party tomorrow. Sorry ill look back through but i think its worth speaking to dh about. I know how you feel about 'last weekend' n all. (Was is cashmere? Eee get my memory cells if it is!) I think i got emotional for same reason last night - another bloody day of shifting furniture and workmen in house when its probably our last wkend triggering pizza and chocolate scoffing and resulting in puking and groaning the day away.

Clarella · 24/11/2012 23:09

Been worth it though, not least easier on the knees over bucket!

PurplePidjin · 24/11/2012 23:10

She cried? What is she, a toddler crying for sweeties? I agree with Stacks - call her on the manipulative bullshit now it'll only get worse!

Massive meltdown. 20 minute battle to wind him enough to get him to latch on. What am i doing to cause him such pain and how do i make it stop? Sad

HoneyMum21 · 24/11/2012 23:57

Aw pidj more than likely its nothing you're doing - it's just how his body is working at the min. Don't blame yourself - he's learning his part too. If the wind is bad infacol helps and is suitable from birth, but you do need to use it every feed for a couple of days. Are you winding upright on knee or over your shoulder?

Let me repeat STOP BLAMING YOURSELF!

Walnut8 · 25/11/2012 00:04

pidj it took me a while to get the hang of winding properly, and when she was little, I had to try a few different positions each time to get a good burp out of DD a the end of a feed. It'll get easier, promise. Are you using a dummy at all?

Good luck spotty, I'm thinking of you. I've heard second time inductions are often a lot easier.

Glad to hear from you cod.

Getting regular BH on and off and urge to poo etc but nothing else. Starting to feel like my body doesnt know what it's doing Sad but trying to stay relaxed about it all. A week now since show.

Secondsop · 25/11/2012 00:39

cashmere I think it's fair enough that you want to spend that weekend as a family of 3; communicating the reasons around your niece though might be tricky. Perhaps a little white lie is in order?

honey that sounds bad re your MIL - emotional manipulation of the highest order.

On a more trivial note I've realised that the Ocado Christmas delivery slots open on a day when I'll probably have given birth less than 24 hours previously. Hmm. I wonder what my chances are of getting a slot if I leave it a few days? Am trying to see if a family member will book for me if I give my log in but they're all being a bit reluctant.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 25/11/2012 00:49

pidj winding is hard, as all babies are different. With dd I had to be really really rough and basically beat her. With ds it only worked if you rubbed in circles anti clockwise. Another thing I found useful was occasionally 'stretching' the baby out, by picking them up from under the armpits and letting the rest of their body dangle for a few seconds. Also if winding over your shoulder (preferably with a muslin between baby and you) make sure your shoulder is basically pressing on your tummy while you rub his back. Or if upright isn't working you can lay him face down across your knees and rub his back in that position for a while. Ultimately it's trial and error until you find out what works with your baby. Don't feel bad, you are doing nothing wrong.

Well I nearly fell asleep in the bath, got to bed sooo sleepy and dell straight asleep. Great. Then woke up again an hour later. Grrr so tired just want sleep!

Welcome back loubear (I think Confused I have no brain)

Walnut8 · 25/11/2012 01:12

I hope you get some sleep stacey, sleep deprivation is the worst.

seconds dont leave it too late! Why are family being so reluctant?? surely one of them can commit to book it if you give them details. I'm getting so excited for you too Grin - only a few days until your induction, isn't that right???

pidj forgot to add that the best way to dd was to sit her up (supporting head/neck) and bend her gently forward at the waist, and pat her back fairly firmly

Cookiesandcoffee · 25/11/2012 01:16

Hello leo

Best of luck spotty hope it all goes really well for you. Remember your body has done this before so hopefully it'll remember what it needs to do once things start. And baby snuggles soon - eek! (Not Envy !!)
pidj no blaming!! I know it's natural but 100% not your fault. I had a terrible time winding dd when she was born- really colicky baby and i hadn't even known about it! Felt like I spent the first 3 months of her life winding her. Be vigorous! It was the only way. I had guilt too that people told me 'oh well it's formula fed babies' Angry
All babies prefer different techniques I guess so trial and error.. One of my secret tips was to sit dd on my lap, winding her back, and jiggling my legs at the same time. You' ll get there soon, some babies just find it easier than others I guess but he'll get there in no time, you're doing a fantastic job (in most unpatronising/v sympathetic tone possible !)

PurplePidjin · 25/11/2012 01:51

It seems to have magically cleared up now we're in bed - wonder if it's stress related, maybe affecting my milk? Sunday is to be spent in pyjamas whereas Saturday was known to be busy...

Cookiesandcoffee · 25/11/2012 02:15

Great news pidj
This is really starting to take the piss now , I'm exhausted yet it's impossible to sleep?! Went to bed over 4 hours ago and now I'm just counting down til DD wakes. This is happening nearly every night now too. Stupid stupid body Angrysorry for rant.
Might go and make snack?!

SpottyTeacakes · 25/11/2012 02:58

It's so ridiculously windy here I've no chance of even dosing it's just howling and it sounds like the windows are going to blow in Angry

Cookiesandcoffee · 25/11/2012 03:29

Oh no spotty that's really rubbish. I really hope you get some sleep tonight. Stupid weather. Are there screaming women still or has it quietened down?
Suffering with horrific heartburn after having a monster 3am feast. Thought it would do the trick- apparently not. Humpf. Googling slings. Given up on getting any sleep tonight!

cashmere · 25/11/2012 04:11

Yep we've agrees to white lie that I feel twingey! I feel a bit of a drama queen but like those who are feeling sad at limited days just them and DH I feel sad at limited days the 3 of us.
DS was sat at his little table earlier and I tried to imagine a 2nd little person sat with him in a couple years- surreal!
I'm awake as DS has made his way into our bed and there's not much space now!

Pidg I was told that BF babies didn't need winding but DS def went through times when he did. I found certain food I ate made it worse for him- mackerel was bizarrely one of them....fishy milk!!!
We found bicycling his legs, and drawing them up to his tummy then down helped.
There's a simple video of 'bicycle legs' on YouTube. Not sure how to link.

We also did rubbing tummy in clockwise direction and also circling legs clockwise. I cunningly called DH 'the wind master' so he had ownership of this task and he was really good at getting wind up!

When he's a bit bigger baby massage may help? My friend started at 4 weeks. I did at 8, unfortunately you can't do it 48 hours after jabs though and I couldn't do 2/5 classes as they coincided with the 8 and 12 week jabs so consider this if you do book to do it.

Spotty good luck tomorrow- weight prediction 5lb 12oz.

Honey I'd really try and stick to your guns- we've said no overnighters till DH is back at work so for at least 2 weeks. Is your DH okay with putting his foot down?

Random thought of the day:- Had a gorgeous Thai take away earlier- did make me think that curry might not help a post natal poo! Wonder if all those women eating curry to induce regret it!!

Walnut8 · 25/11/2012 04:37

Have to admit, have also had that random thought cashmere Grin

Garlic and onion and cows' milk also known to potentially cause wind in bf babies. DD is cows' milk intolerant and I had to cut it out completely when bf'ing her.

Sorry spotty and cookies that you cant sleep. DH let me sleep in this morning as apparently I was becoming unbearable Grin (not his words, but I read between the lines).

SpottyTeacakes · 25/11/2012 05:10

No screaming women luckily! I've got a headache though which I could do without.

Oh cashmere I like your optimism but unfortunately I think we're going to be closer to 8lb!!

Secondsop · 25/11/2012 05:26

I can't sleep :(

walnuts my sister has now agreed to book the Ocado on Friday if I do a "shopping list" that she can then just "add" to the trolley, and I'll give her my log-in details. She hadnt really appreciated, until I started banging on about it, that it wasn't just the case of me possibly needing help on the day - it was really a case of me not even wanting to have to turn my mind to it on the day when im possibly still drugged up, in pain, trying to feed my baby. I'm the first to have a baby in my immediate family and so only my mum is really tuned in to the huge change. Eg my other sister was going to help me put up Christmas decorations this weekend (I know it's really early) but arrived too late to do it in the end and said "well, there's plenty of time till Christmas", not really appreciating that I am unlikely to feel inclined to do anything else apart from look after my new baby.

There are an alarmingly small number of days to go between now and my induction but I have scheduled in a hair appointment for the day beforehand on the basis that afterwards will be no good and this way at least I will have to sit still and relax for a couple of hours without trying to get yet another task done round the house.

Re curries: I really want to get one more before I go in, but will do it tomorrow so that it's got a couple of days to clear!

spotty GOOD LUCK!!

cashmere · 25/11/2012 05:32

Ha ha slightly out there!

SpottyTeacakes · 25/11/2012 06:19

My friend had a curry before her labour and she pooed. Can't imagine it was pleasant! I seem to be going three times a day at the moment Blush so hoping there won't be anything there!!

Saphiesgirl · 25/11/2012 07:04

Good luck today spotty!

knottyhair · 25/11/2012 07:08

Thinking of you today Spotty!

Bellaboo123 · 25/11/2012 07:58

Thinking of you spotty

EggsMichelle · 25/11/2012 08:04

Good luck Spotty, very excited for you!

I love curry but a disproportionate amount of times I'm sick after eating it :( and don't think I need that extra discomfort!

I have 16hrs to give birth for my DH prediction to come true, I don't think it's happening this weekend for me!

AlisonDB · 25/11/2012 08:05

Morning everyone,
i had bloody chronic heartburn overnight who'd have thought Pizza & coke could cause so much effin pain, did come in here but must have been to early for the wide awake club,
so I necked half a bottle of Gaviscon and managed to get back asleep again,

We have no choice but to have overnight guests,
As we live in Holland, I don't really feel like we can say yeah please book flights to come and see us oh and then when you get here you will have to find a b&b!

But we don't have our 1st overnight visitor till Jan 2nd, which is would technically be 2 days after wk42, but as I'm really pinning all my hopes that they will induce me at wk39, hopefully baby will be 2 wks old,
And it's my mum so hopefully she'll get stuck in like she did when I had DS.... She has been so supportive as always and was only here last weekend, with a whole pile of useful (& gimmicky stuff for baby)

But then 2 wks after her we have FIL & step MIL (slightly pissed off with them as last time they where here I was only 11 wks and they did Fek all to help even though they knew my best friend at the time was mr toilet! (Blurgh) they have shown virtually no interest in this preg and I really can't be arsed with them in my house!

Spotty, best of luck for today, keep us posted, can't wait to hear your news, I'm going for 8.2lb (hopefully not too big)
:-))

AlisonDB · 25/11/2012 08:21

Clarella, hope you are feeling better this morning,

Ooooh curry my favorite, but haven't been able to even smell it since getting preg without heaving and being sick! :-(
With DS it was my absolute craving and we'd have take out at least once a week! :-)
