Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Didn't give up on my delivery in the end, but did order pizza and cake to tide me over until I can get to Costa! Package never did turn up so in all day tomorrow too. My Tesco shop just turned up in the middle of painful BH while DP was in the toilet so had to unload it all myself, DP came downstairs to find me holding onto the kitchen counter. He's now laughing at my funny pregnancy walk (which I've pointed out is exactly the same as his sat on the toilet too long and now my legs are dead walk!)

pidj yey for being home! Hope your getting yourself nice and settled.

utopian99 · 21/11/2012 21:34

Welcome home pidjfamily!

Bellaboo123 · 21/11/2012 21:35

welcome home pidj I bet it's a lovely feeling Smile

cashmere · 21/11/2012 22:01

Kate my midwife has never measured my bump and I'm now 38 +3.
I assume this is as it's not accurate.

My Mum's up to stay the week before due date so I can have a rest from looking after 2 year old. I've said if I'd rather she came 1st half of week so I'm less likely to go into labour. I seem to have offended her BUT Im having a home birth and want privacy. She says she'd stay out the way but last time I was wandering around naked and want option of using stairs, bathroom, living room, kitchen in an uninhibited way.

Surely I'm not the only one who doesn't want their Mum around during labour??!

AlisonDB · 21/11/2012 22:06

Really hope that Dating is ok!!!

Pidj, hope you are enjoying your 1st night back home! :-)

Kate, can you ask for a growth scan? I agree that just by feeling how big is not going to be an accurate indicator,

I was officially transferred today to consultant care, from our MW.
So I'm happy with that,
Had a total melt down in her office though sobbing uncontrollably, and not able to pull myself together for ages,
Had a growth scan, baby is still very small, estimated weight is currently 4.5lb estimated full term is now 5.2lb.
(So much smaller than DS who was 6.9lb)
She checked the flow from placenta & that was good, so i was then hooked to a machine for 45 minutes to check the baby's heart rate,

I now have a growth scan and heart monitor done each week till my 39 week (3wks time)
Then she will do an internal and if my cervix is soft enough she will arrange for me to be induced,

so I'm upping my EPO, have taken 2 orally and am about to do my 1st internally (tmi)

AlisonDB · 21/11/2012 22:06

Spotty, hope your DD is ok and doesn't find her casts to uncomfortable!

PurplePidjin · 21/11/2012 22:48

The only reason to measure a bump regularly is so that measurements can be compared from appointment to appointment and any changes to growth tracked.

Nips of fire Sad but cloth nappy on :o

ISpyPlumPie · 21/11/2012 23:16

Welcome home Pidgefamily!

Spotty - hope your DD is ok and adjusting to her casts.

Kate - glad you're feeling a bit better now. Would echo what everyone else has said about measurements often not being accurate, dependent on how baby is lying etc.

Cashmere - totally get where you are coming from about wanting privacy for home birth. I've been a bit unsure what to do about DS, especially if everything starts at night and he's already asleep. DM has been great and said she'll do whatever we want - whether that is just to wait upstairs out of the way incase he wakes up/I need to transfer in or to take him back to their house.

At first, I thought it would be a shame to move him if there is a chance he could sleep through the whole thing and wake up to meet his new sibling. The more I think about it though, I do feel a bit uncomfortable about my mum hearing me give birth. She isn't the sort who would interfer and I think she would stay calm, but think it might be harder for her than she thinks hearing me in pain and might get in trouble for language Grin. Also, although I'm planning to use the pool downstairs, I might decide I want to be upstairs afterall and this is quite likely to disrupt DS. Leaning towards him going to my parents' house at whatever time now unless things happen so quickly it isn't possible/worthwhile.

Mummycox · 21/11/2012 23:54

Welcome pidj and pidjunior

Been having one proper BH an hour all day. Now have extra hot feet and can't sleep.

Thinking of dated

M0naLisa · 22/11/2012 00:04

I'm 38+5 today due 1st dec a d getting period pains and tightenings. Nothing to time though as they are not regular and the pain is just there iykwim?

Cookiesandcoffee · 22/11/2012 00:16

Ah can't sleep, lower back aches on and off but nothing overly painful to be excited about thinking i'm due some big farts/a poo sorry TMI there. Eurghh so stupidly uncomfy anyone else ridiculously hot?! No heating on, window open, fan on, sleeping naked. Stupid body Angry

Secondsop · 22/11/2012 00:18

alison hope the rest of your appointments go well - sounds like they are keeping a close eye on you which is great. A friend's sister was just induced because they were worried that the baby was small (when she was 40+2) and the baby was littler than average (5lb something) but absolutely, completely fine, and is doing great a couple of weeks later.

cashmere my mum is the first person I'd normally want when unwell or in hospital, but I DO NOT want her there when I'm in labour. She will stress and panic, which will make ME stress and panic, and I really want my husband and I to go through this experience together without any other relatives or friends present. We've also had the talk with my mum about coming over after the birth and we've agreed that she should definitely visit in hospital, and we'd love to have her come stay and help at home after a few days, but we need those first few days at home to be just us, our new family, walking into the house together for the first time and getting used to each other, without anyone else wanting to get their hands on the baby for a few days.

Secondsop · 22/11/2012 00:19

Oh cookies I was freezing earlier, and boiling and massively hungry now. Have had to get a sandwich.

MyDaydream · 22/11/2012 01:00

I feel like someone has blown up a balloon inside me, it's making me feel so sick.
I'm so warm on a night I've taken to sleeping in the spare room. We've not got round to putting blinds up yet so all the hear escapes and I've turned the radiator right down so its freezing and lovely on a night when I'm boiling. I still struggle to get to sleep and I'm still uncomfortable but the temperature is perfect.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/11/2012 01:40

Awake, hot, grumpy. Need sleep so I can comprehend what goes on with the obstetrician in the morning. Fingers crossed I get an induction date.

On the plus side I'm watching one born - what happened next. Love the squishy newborn babies!

PurplePidjin · 22/11/2012 01:52

I thought dp might make things harder - we both get snappy when we're not in control of situations - and he was absolutely the best person to have with me. Advocated for me, did everything i needed and more, and was up to cutting the cord (wasn't sure he'd be too squeamish before hand, bless)

He's just handed Rafa over after letting me get 3 hours uninterrupted sleep. I'm like a new woman. :o

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/11/2012 01:55

Oh pidj it sounds like you're doing amazingly! Well done you (and your dp and little Rafa!)

PurplePidjin · 22/11/2012 02:13

More like achy, tired and scared but i think that's normal Wink

Need to sort latch

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/11/2012 02:27

All completely normal! :)

Can't help with the bf I'm afraid. Am hoping I crack that this time!

SpottyTeacakes · 22/11/2012 02:42

Morning everyone here we go again.....

Hope everything is ok m0na sounds like the beginning.

Glad they're keeping an eye on you Alison

I'm not really hot but really sweaty Blush

Trouble with being awake all night is I can hear dd every time she stirs! It's a lot more often that I thought and I'm even more alert to it tonight with it being her first night with that casts on.

pidj hope your nipples are OK I'm pretty scared of the whole bf thing!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 22/11/2012 02:59

Morning spotty just try and keep in mind that kids are remarkable adaptable and resilient. Dd will shock you with how well she copes.

Walnut8 · 22/11/2012 05:58

Your poor DD spotty Sad. My DD has to have an operation on her eye and im dreading it. Harder on the parents sometimes!

Wonder how Cod is doing. And poor dated.

Tired , achey and scared sounds pretty familiar pidj Smile. You sound like you're doing really well though. My nips hurt for at least the first few months even though latch etc was all good. Then they just stopped and from then on it was a piece of cake.

Dinner ideas please anyone? Bearing in mind it is about 25 degrees still (5pm) and I hate mince Grin

PurplePidjin · 22/11/2012 06:29

I've clicked it Somewhat - wasn't getting enough of the underneath bit in.

There's a knack. I nearly have it..

Walnut8 · 22/11/2012 06:43

A really good tip I was given pidj to avoid mastitis which is quite common ... massage your boobs in a hot shower twice a day at the first sign of any hot and/or pink/red patch. Many of my nct group developed an infection but I happily avoided them!

SpottyTeacakes · 22/11/2012 06:44

Caesar salad with crusty bread mmmm yum!

Well I got a couple of hours sleep dd only just woke up Grin and when I asked how her legs were she said they were alright Smile
