Congratulations pidj, wonderful news and such a lovely name. Hope you're all resting. Bear

Cookiesandcoffee · 19/11/2012 16:15

Big congratulations pidj and family!! Lovely name too Thanks well done Smile xx

Begs the question - who's next ?!

Good luck for thurs stacey, must admit I'm Envy of people with induction dates. Am I crazy to be sat thinking of ways i could persuade someone to induce me, on the basis of too uncomfotrtable to move?! I was measuring 40 weeks at 36+0 (am only 5ft2) so I feel it's justified.

Had 'hard' and very unenjoyable sex last night (sorry tmi) but clearly not time yet Angry

MyDaydream · 19/11/2012 16:25

equimum my test is in two weeks, its at rush hour so I'm hoping lots of fairly slow driving and not going too far. I failed a test a few weeks back and felt so much better then than I do now. Sounds like a very scary drive for you earlier.
Birth centre tour was lovely, I feel very relaxed about going there now. It's a bit like a posh hotel that supplies drugs too! Had a mental taxi driver on the way to the hospital who woke baby up with his erratic driving so no worries about movement either. She wrote on my notes in 3/5ths engaged, does this mean its as low as he's getting and this breathlessness is staying for good?

Barbeasty · 19/11/2012 16:31

Daydream you've got another 2/5 to go, so it might get better.

HoneyMum21 · 19/11/2012 17:01

Chocolate chip cookies dunked in tea. Yum. (Just to reignite the debate)

SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2012 17:03

Dirty Honey Wink

HoneyMum21 · 19/11/2012 17:10

Shock Spotty

MyDaydream · 19/11/2012 17:17

I hope so barb, I was reading some stuff on the Internet that hinted 3/5ths was it until labour. Didn't see she'd written it until I'd left the hospital so couldn't ask.
I have ice cream and a cup of tea looking forward to DP being back at work tomorrow. He's obsessed with episodes of Top Gear that must be 10 years old. I really hate Dave, it'll be 10 year old topical panel shows later. Does he really have to take paternity leave? Can my mum take it for him instead?

Clarella · 19/11/2012 17:24

Lol had a peter kay biscuit disaster earlier. Chocolate all over my face Grin

Mydaydream its a tested fact that those who have to retake tests make much better drivers! Have every faith in you!

Have just suggested a girl at nct who is now ten days over due tries that vanilla ice dance. Shes trying as i type - will report back on this highly scientific double blind experiment for the thread as i receive the results .....!

Secondsop · 19/11/2012 17:33

I need bisuits so much ... only a little while now to go without them...

Ladies, what can you tell me about expressing colostrum? The consultant has recommended that I try it beforehand to get my boobs going, because he said that feeding the baby ASAP would be the best thing for him in terms of settling his blood sugar. I have an NCT class on fri that is about breast feeding so can ask more questions there but I don't know where to even START with what I should / shouldn't be doing and I'm the only diabetic in the class so I might not get what I need out of it if I don't ask the right questions. The consultant told me to hand-express and not use a pump but when I asked him more about it he admitted that he didn't really know about the practicalities (which is fair enough) and asked if I had any other breast feeding support so I told him about the NCT class. Has anyone tried it before, before birth?

SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2012 17:42

I'm doing it Seconds ill pm you once I'm on my laptop if you like?

SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2012 18:23

Eugh keep dribbling whilst awake Blush

Bellaboo123 · 19/11/2012 18:26

Congrats pidj and what an amazing name. Hope you're feeling well.

I had a breast feeding workshop today and they said to knead around the breast while in the bath or shower for a few mins and then use your thumb and fore finger to make a 'c' shape around the nipple and areaola and squeeze - it may take a minute or so of squeezing to come out and don't expect much! Yet to try it - will keep you posted!

Back is really bad today struggling to walk and seems to be getting worse...do I just suffer as its another usual pg symptom or should I call the MW to see if they can do anything...suggestions please!!!

Envy of induction dates!

Last week of work yay!!!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 19/11/2012 18:29

Haha Spotty you're a catch! Woke myself up last night with dribble running down my face, hair and top both soaked!

Thick question, why do you need to hand express the colostrum? Am I missing something? Was planning on whacking him on and hoping for the best Confused

Bellaboo123 · 19/11/2012 18:37

willyou you can do that but breast feeding lady said if you want to give it a go b4 then that's how to do it...u can tell I had a bf workshop today lol

Secondsop · 19/11/2012 18:44

Oh thanks spotty that would be great. I haven't had any boob leakage so far so I am worried it'll be a bit of an uphill struggle. The consultant said not to bother about keeping it and that the main thing was to get it going.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2012 18:44

Baby's of diabetic mums can have trouble regulating their sugar levels when they're born mainly because they're used to having more rather than not enough. The few drops that you'll get out post birth are obviously great but it helps if you have a small store to keep topping them up with. This can lessen the time they might have to spend in SCBU.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2012 18:45

Ah ok yeah you don't have to keep it. I'll pm you in a bit it's quite easy. I've had no leakage but can get out some impressive drops Grin

Barbeasty · 19/11/2012 18:52

Daydream last time DD was fully engaged a good 5 or 6 weeks before she was born, and she did it so quickly the midwife had to scan to check it was the head that was engaged (from 0/5 to 5/5 between appointments).

This time I was 4/5 last appointment which was 3 weeks ago.

Sadly it's no.indication that things are imminent and puts lots of pressure down below, but you can breathe.

2blessed · 19/11/2012 18:57

Congratulations pidj and what a fab name!
Very pleased that I only have 9 more days of work before leave starts, finding the commute more and more difficult. Bit of a sore arm after flu and whooping cough jabs and no particular baby prep tasks for tonight so an early night for me.

Clarella · 19/11/2012 19:02

Totally ditto barbeastly ive been engaged since at least 36 weeks (suspect before cos of pains) and im sure it's what all these pains are - had to be scanned week before last as consultant couldn't feel head (mw s obviously superior at that!) Breathing is easier but it's crampy.

39 today!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 19/11/2012 19:11

Just back from Zumba. Baby has now started dancing. Wiggling it out doesn't appear to be working though!

EggsMichelle · 19/11/2012 19:18

Congratulations Pidj and family!

I was fully engaged last week (37+0), but only today have I had my first crampy pain, one at top and one at bottom of bump, so think I'm still along way from being ready.

Had breastfeeding antenatal class, nipple tweaking releases the same hormones that activate labour, so tweak away!

Getting quite fed up with the elephant legs, they look hideous and can't seem to do anything without them swelling up again, grrr, I'm going to cut them off!

Clarella · 19/11/2012 19:40

Eggs have you tried support socks - I love the scholl ones I got from boots ( got a few in a sale ) not sure if boots still do but are on amazon ?

StrawberrytallCAKE · 19/11/2012 20:01

Congratulations pidj what a beautiful name too, hope you're getting some rest and recovering well.

38 weeks today and not much sign of anything, a tiny bit of back pain but that's it. I spent today going for a walk, I was mostly bouncing whilst walking and when standing still which looked a bit odd in mamas and papas but who cares..I want it out. I think my body is too chilled and can't really be bothered...kind of like me so I very much doubt I'm left, in fact I would absolutely bet on myself being very overdue.
