New thread for June 2013 :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

What it's worth doing now is thinking about stuff like buggies/prams, what your budget will be, what your requirements are and doing some research before you walk into any of the shops so you know roughly which ones you want to try out and don't get talked into anything by a salesperson. It's expensive.

Now, can I justify buying another buggy when I have a perfectly servicable iCandy in the porch... Wink

Sunbeam18 · 30/12/2012 18:46

Think I'm lucky in this respect as my parents are going to buy the pram for us - phew. Still need to do all the research into the one we want though. I had first foray into John Lewis yesterday and came out overwhelmed... We're getting a lot of stuff from my sis who has two wee ones already though. X

DontmindifIdo · 30/12/2012 18:58

Get yourself over to the pramshed bit on here. You'll get lots of ideas about what your wish list should include - it's been over 3 years since I did my research!

For me, the requirements were: rear facing; not too heavy as I'm a wuss; not too wide so I can easily get it though doorways; easy to manover with one hand; handle that was the right height or adjustable as I'm rather short; doesn't take a degree in engineering to put it up/down - other people have other requirements like 'can convert to a double' (I never intended a small gap between DCs, but I know others who did plan a less than 2 year gap so that's important if you don't want to have to buy a second double buggy); i know others who do a lot of hiking/running who wanted ones you could go off-roading/jogging with; friends who don't drive and have hallways big enough to leave the buggies set up at all times and just wheel in and out, so ease of fold didn't matter as much, and others who have very big cars so they don't have to worry about if it's small enough to fit in their boot etc. you'll know what sort of person you are and what matters the most to your family.

We didn't have a "nursery" all posted and decorated until DD was um er about a month younger than she is now and we have a verdbaudet set and it was exceedingly good value. First house we were selling, then rental and then wanted to keep her close after seizures so she has her own room decorated now.

Only frustration is that she won't sleep in the single bed we bought and so DH has to dismantle it and put her cot in there to see if she will settle then. And then the spare room she is in will be babies room (with a proper nursing chair which I have already decided is a must have) and our small double for the endless bed swapping.

MrsBri · 30/12/2012 21:42

My PiL are buying our pram, thank god. Very expensive thing to get!

Hadn't thought about a nursing chair. Must investigate.

redwellybluewelly · 30/12/2012 22:17

I didnt have room for one with DD but by gum they are an essential!

I used to walk in and out of town most days to get DD to sleep and always always fed her in mothercare where they have the chairs to nurse in. Used to take my lunch and feed DD in comfort.

forgetmenots · 30/12/2012 22:29

This might be complete bunkum but a friend of mine swore by an ikea poang chair for nursing, they aren't very expensive and she found it very comfortable. I've held on to an old one and I'm going to buy a new cushion and cover... Hoping it will do and save a few quid!

redwellybluewelly · 30/12/2012 22:33

We had two poangs and they are ok but nowhere near as comfy as a nursing chair. Although I always wondered about the role of the footstool, because I always used one in mothercare but not with the poang.

forgetmenots · 30/12/2012 22:34

Ah that's useful, thanks redbelly. Thought it may be too good to be true! Have got a footstool and it is comfy but I was wondering about arm height.

SparklySanta · 30/12/2012 22:55

A nursing chair is on our shopping list too, I'd have it now just to rest in but pretty sure it wouldn't fit anywhere!!

We're off to order our stuff tomorrow!! Slightly nervous to be honest, it's so so daft isn't it?!

forgetmenots · 30/12/2012 23:08

Redwelly not redbelly Grin

ChicaT · 31/12/2012 00:54

Dontmindifido, Sarah, Mrs Bri - thank you! I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only big bumped one out there. You might be right about the clothes too...I usually wear very skinny/slim fit clothes which are fitted at the waist and have a tiny chest (28") and boobs, so when i think about it, no wonder my clothes don't fit any more and i feel so big. I've just bought a whole bunch of maternity clothes online in the sales, I'm just going to have to embrace it! (And hope that one day my waist returns to something vaguely approaching normal)

MrsBri · 31/12/2012 06:59

Morning :-)

We need to be careful what we wish for...my morning sickness is back with a vengeance this morning. DH got called out for work at 3.30 this morning (he works for a funeral director) and I've been mostly awake feeling rotten since then.

Think we have a growing spurt going on, as my bump is aching in the way it does when there's growth happening.

Hopefully I'll make it through work today!

SunnyL · 31/12/2012 11:28

So so happy right now. My jeans are definately snug right now and I need to buy some maternity jeans but I've been in the huff about it because someone told me Gap don't do maternity wear. I've only bought Gap jeans for about 6 years now after I found they magically fit and make my arse look half its normal size. Well it turns out they do maternity wear and the jeans were on sale. Its a flipping sign that I had to buy them! Phew - belly may be expanding but at least my arse won't look ginormous enormous!

redwellybluewelly · 31/12/2012 12:48

I'm 17+0 today and got a hefty kick halfway round supermarket which was reassuring as hadn't felt much movement yesterday. DH is also beginning to annoy me a lot by trying to play the competitive tiredness game and being a git to our DD who was bemused and extremely upset by daddy going to work today after a week off.

What I'm still suffering from is pain, lower right side and it's exactly the same place where I had my initial pain attack which sent me to the GP who found out I was pregnant. Takes my breath away at times

pinkapples · 31/12/2012 14:51

Aww woohoo on the gap jeans I've got one pair at the mo from blooming marvellous with just a thin elastic waist so fingers crossed these will do for a few weeks

Anyone else with an anterior placenta not felt anything yet? I'm not too concerned as we're meant to feel everything later just want to know baby's alright! Grin

AlohaMama · 31/12/2012 19:32

Hi all. Had a busy Christmas so just catching up on all that's going on. Glad to hear lots of people are feeling flutterings. I thought I might have felt something on Christmas day but not sure. Feeling decidedly un-pregnant, and can't wait to get to the stage of feeling regular movements.

Well done on all the bargains out there. I don't have much to buy so not really looking right now. As we still have everything from ds I think all we need is a 2nd car seat. Am getting a car seat adaptor for our BOB jogger and hoping either ds will walk, or baby will go in the carrier while ds goes in the jogger. Also hoping this baby won't be as huge as ds and will be able to sleep in the moses basket for a while so I can avoid giving ds the freedom of a bed.

Other 2nd/3rd etc time mums - are you buying much? Am I forgetting anything? Other than new parts for my pump, new bottles, I couldn't think what I would need? I'll get a new change bag, but can't decide what to get. 2 in nappies possibly (and cloth at that so they take up a lot of room), unless I can get ds toilet trained by then??! desperately hopeful

DontmindifIdo · 01/01/2013 09:11

Happy 2013 everyone! This is going is going to be an exciting year for us! How was everyone else's stone cold sober New Year's Eve? Anyone else like me in bed stupidly early? (I made it to 10:30pm before DH said I looked like I was about to fall alseep on him and I gave up)

Aloha - 2nd timer here - I just need to get a new car seat (DS's broke, but luckily we had just bought his next size up and so put him in it about a week earlier than planned), and a buggy board (DS is 3, so I think not need a double buggy). New bottles - thank you, forgot about that! (Although planning on trying to breast feed again, I know it's worth being prepared in case I can't). Other than that, it's more I need things for DS ! I need to get a new grown up bed for him as he's in the cotbed i want to put the baby in, I want to get a new chest of drawers for his room so the baby can have his with the changing top - oh new changing mats! I'm sure I could used last time round's ones. Then it's just all the consumables like nappies, cotton wool etc.

Other thing I'm not sure about (and need to check) last time I had a winter baby, this time as a summer one, I can't remember how heavy all the clothes i bought were. I might have to buy sun hats as the new born sizes I have are all wooly hats etc.

pinkapples · 01/01/2013 09:20

Awww just the thought of little tiny sunhats!! Melt Grin

DontmindifIdo · 01/01/2013 09:25

I know, how exciting! It's all getting a bit real, isn't it?

MrsBri · 01/01/2013 09:32

Exciting that it is this year, isn't it?

I saw the new year in, but only because I'd had a long nap on the sofa beforehand. The Thames fireworks were amazing!

Any idea where to get reasonably priced nursery furniture from? I've no intention of spending 400 quid on a wardrobe!

MoottonBun · 01/01/2013 09:38

Hello June ladies! Can I please join you in your journey?
I am 17+6 with DC3 and was too shy to join before! Despite 2 successful pregnancies, a previous MC meant I was faaaar too scared to "come out" till much later this time. All good so far though :)
I've been wearing my old mat jeans, oh jeepers...since about 10 weeks.
Happy new year :)

MrsBri · 01/01/2013 09:51

Hi Mootton! Glad you finally feel able to join us. :-)

arlandria666 · 01/01/2013 10:00

Happy new year to all x x new year new babies eeeeek! I saw the new year in despite being asleep for just gone eleven locals let fireworks off just before midnight so i ended up with a very scared cockerspaniel in bed with me and a drunk husband who slept thru it all lol x x

MoottonBun · 01/01/2013 10:01

Thanks MrsBri! I will add to stat thread then.
Hoping everyone's 2nd trimester is a good one. So glad to be feeling normal(ish anyway) again.
