I was going to whinge on here about DP's fecking headlight MM but maybe not... Shock I'd kill the bastard!

(DP's headlight that was completely out the night we needed to go to hospital - was replaced - but doesn't work properly - told him to go to garage, but once again he still hasn't... he doesn't learn!!)

MissMummy1 · 08/11/2012 14:43

Detective I know nothing about cars (used to phone the RAC out to change bulbs etc Blush) but even I know this is a bit of extreme faffing! I think he's replaced tinkering with the landrover for fucking about with my car. Will upload a photo of the carnage. I'm not impressed!

Is your healthcare package an nhs perk? And if not who is it with? The amount I fork out for contacts, glasses, dental care etc I'd be interested in looking into it. (presumably too late now for the baby payment for me!)

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/11/2012 14:47

Congrats sophia v jel of your newborn AND your bacon rolls! Sounds perfect.

misslaughalot sorry about your friend :( so shit when things like that happen. I know it's not quite the same but I don't know how to be aroun my friend soon when I have a healthy (hopefully) newborn and she's going to be stuck in a London hospital with a newborn undergoing surgery :(

TheDetective · 08/11/2012 14:50

It was offered through an intermediary coming to my workplace and signing staff up, and I paid for it through my wage.

When I moved Trusts, I then had to arrange it through my bank and pay direct debit. It wasn't a standard NHS 'perk' so to speak. I don't think there are many/any perks to the NHS!!

I think it is a particularly good deal though as looking at their website, for similar I'd be paying £32.50 and it doesn't pay out as much under some of the benefits - such as hospital stays only being £20 a night, where as I can claim £60. Dental/optical are the same though!

CharleeWarlee · 08/11/2012 15:02

Congrats sophia

Passmethecrisps · 08/11/2012 15:11

Back from Aldi having done the shop of a child. Sweets, crisps and fruit.

I have become so paranoid about movements that I reckon poor baby is going to get no sleep until it's out.

A car I used to have required you to take the full bumper off to change the headlamp. It is possible that the faffing is required.

I have had more bloody stuff which is much more what I was expecting re a bloody show. You are right chunky I will call the midwives and quickly check what is 'normal'. It was the sort of lumpy matter like I would get with a heavy period which I wasn't really expecting.

Sitting on the sofa now watching prison break with a cup of tea. How come it is only now that I find myself able to settle?

misslaughalot · 08/11/2012 15:13

On another note entirely, has anyone purchased an ear thermometer, or is it not worth getting one? There's such a vast array of prices you can pay for them!

katkit1 · 08/11/2012 15:38

sophia Congratulations, that sounded like a lovely birth - I would also like to please have one like that (fingers crossed)

FatimaLovesBread · 08/11/2012 15:40

Blonder There's been a few studies that have found dishwashers to be more environmentally friendly than the equivalent washing up. I love my dishwasher! It's my favourite kitchen appliance Grin

Just had some friends over. I'm bored now though, what shall I do?

Dixiebell · 08/11/2012 15:42

missl, would definitely get a thermometer, I think they use under arm ones for tinies though, ear ones maybe a bit big for newborns?. But DS (2) loves the ear thermometer these days, when we use it the whole family have to be tested, both ears.

MissMummy1 · 08/11/2012 15:52

Passme rhe fact the two front wheels have now been removed too I know he's faffing! Our neighbour just asked me if we're selling my car too (they were v pleased to see the landie off) - don't know whether to be offended or not! It's not that old.... who am I kidding, come March when the MOT is up it's gone!

Passmethecrisps · 08/11/2012 15:53

We got an ear one from Aldi when they had a baby event on. It was £12 and I am not convinced by it at all.

Passmethecrisps · 08/11/2012 15:54

I see MM! He can't say us on MN weren't trying to be fair!

Baby sure does like chocolate.

WaitingForMe · 08/11/2012 15:56

Congratulations Sophia!

I just had a phonecall from MIL. Lovely but quite surreal. She was careful to say she wasn't asking for news because her aunt had driven her crazy with that when she was pregnant but wanted to say she was thinking of me and was there anything I'd like for the baby? Given that I'm now 39 weeks we've bought everything but I've said clothes and extra blankets would be very much appreciated. I also got to say that we want minimum visitors in the first week but that doesn't include her and we'd be delighted to see her the day we get back from hospital.

I'm really quite chuffed. I've found it really odd that she seemed to have almost no interest in him and it's nice that actually she does care. Maybe she's just one of those people that thinks it bad luck to do much until the baby is literally born?

Elizadoesdolittle · 08/11/2012 16:26

Congratulations sophia sounds like it all went very smoothly. Enjoy your newborn snuggles.

I got a digital ear thermometer when pregnant with DD. I've only used it a handful of times but I have found it great when I have had to. And like a previous poster (sorry cant remember name) my DD loves it and we all have to have out temp taken when she needs hers done.

Not long got in and am pretty shattered. Am looking forward to wallowing in the pool at aqua natal tonight. I doubt I'll do much excercise!

TheDetective · 08/11/2012 16:29

I really really hate driving now. My back aches like crazy - in the middle of all places, and my bump hurts. I can not get the seat in to a comfortable position - stupid sports seats. DP didn't bother going for petrol today, apparently he will go before work tomorrow. I am biting my tongue. Severely. He isn't in work til 1130, so looks like I will be doing the fucking school run again then, doesn't it?!

Just running a bath now, with my Badedas bubble bath, got some clary sage to sniff, and the hypnobirthing cd to play. Lit some candles too. I need to de-stress from DP. Grin

Sadly, I don't last long in a bath, 10-15 mins tops! But it will be a nice 10-15 mins anyway!

I think I might be nesting now. I just washed, dried and ironed all the baby blankets. And checked the steriliser out, and sterilised the breast pump. Just to see...!

Oh, question... if something says to dry flat, does it mean you can't hang it on a radiator/banister to dry? One of the blankets can't be tumbled, and says dry flat. I had it flat on the dining room table but it looked like it was going to dry all weirdly. So I've hung it over the banister upstairs, so it is flat, but in two and hanging if you know what I mean. Will I break it? It was a very expensive blanket!

TheDetective · 08/11/2012 16:41

Ear thermometers, I wouldn't bother personally. I've just got one that goes under the arm. It is what I am used to with babies anyway. And was cheap as chips, for the amount of times I anticipate i'll need one.

I didn't even have that with DS. In fact, in 10 years, I have never taken his temperature, I've trusted my instincts, if he looks/feels unwell and is hot, then I have treated him and probably would have done regardless of temperature reading.

I've got a thermometer this time because it was free with something or other. I forget what now!

FatimaLovesBread · 08/11/2012 16:43

Detective That's how i'd dry it, then at least it's not all creased. But i suppose if it's knitted it could pulled in to a strange shape. I'd still dri it like that though.
Ooooh I might have a look for some nice bright blankets, something to occupy my time

MissMummy1 · 08/11/2012 16:44

I really want sausages, chips and beans for tea. I hate beans. Never in my life have I had sausages and chips for dinner - even as a child! Just for some mad reason I really want to eat this! Possibly the strangest laziest pregnancy craving yet.

In other news my car is back in one piece. With 2 working headlights. But no sidelights Hmm...

ShellyBobbs · 08/11/2012 17:09

Saw the midwife today, I'm swollen with fluid apparently! She told me that they only do a sweep twice and that is it, so my first one will be next week at term +. She tried to discuss induction with me presuming that this is what I would want, I told her no it isn't, I will be happy to have daily monitoring after 40+12.

Sophia Congratulations Thanks

Chunkychicken · 08/11/2012 17:10

Who needs sidelights anyway??!!! Grin

Having burger, chips & peas (for DD as she loves peas) but I fancy beans now too, so I'll do some of that too. Maybe can use the rest of the can for beans on toast for lunch tomorrow (as DH & DD don't like beans). :)

More 'insistent' BH. Hope they at least have the good grace to be working on my cervix rather than just taunting me...Hmm

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/11/2012 17:14

mm we have that dinner often sometimes, it's popular because everyone likes it!

Tonight we've got hot chilli, not sure I'm really in the mood for it though.

ShellyBobbs · 08/11/2012 17:19

Weird about the beans, I've been fancying them for a bit and had some today too Grin

MissMummy1 · 08/11/2012 17:23

I don't know what it is. I HATE beans! (Tbh not had them since I was a kid so don't even remember what they taste like...) But right now I really want to eat them! dh21 my dh would love me to cook chilli tonight but with my recent sickness/heartburn I don't want anything spicy. And I'm damned if I'm starting to cook seperate meals!

kissyfur · 08/11/2012 17:25

Evening everyone!

Congrats sophia! Sounds like a lovely birth Smile hope you are enjoying baby snuggles

Sorry to hear about your friends dh21 and misslaughalot Sad

Had my last consultant appointment today, had my swabs for MRSA done. 1 week today I'll be in hospital! Feels a bit weird and I'm getting nervous, it's nice having a date but I bet by next Thursday I'll be a nervous wreck. Already dreading leaving DD
