empress DD had a head on the smaller end of scale, but it still hurt as she came out with one hand on her head.

My friend says her baby with the big head was easier to birth than the little ones.

For some reason I am expecting this one to be a gert chunker after DD following the bottom centile all the way through, she's tall, slim, lithe... all the things Me and DH are not.

The rain has finally stopped, the sun is coming out. But the chickens are still making a fuss as there is a lake in front of their house and they are not ducks.

Depending on how I am sitting/standing, my bump looks like a pregnant bump rather than that of someone who has eaten too many pies. I can feel the firmness of the bump below but still have some jelly belly on top. Wriggling about seems to have stopped, I can feel a few kicks to my sides but nothing front and forward.

low lying placenta a close work colleague had this, was planning a cs, went to her 36 week scan and it had moved... she had a little panic as she never expected to have a NVD so was having a last minute panic. I think the statistic is something like 7 in 10 move by the 36 week scan.

Empressmatilda I was referring to full maternity compression tights, which are similar to surgical stockings (but have no holes in the toes and come in ether sheer or opaque in tan or black so you can where them like normal tights). They come in different levels of support, but offer more su[port/compression than standard support tights (although there are supposed to be good if you don't want to fork out oodles for the compression ones) and are an effort to put on but my legs are slimmer than ever by the end of the day and haven't been aching or restless. Flight socks doubtless will help a bit but won't be as effective as the full tights. Oh and you now have me scuttling back to look at scan measurements to see what size Bean's head was!

My lovely pregnant bump appears to have spread into a wide "fat" belly Sad has anybody else's bump changed shape? One of my colleagues found out I was pregnant yesterday and said she had noticed that I was getting "chunkier" but that I wasn't obviously pregnant!! Slightly redeemed herself today by saying she thought I was about 32 (I'm 40!) although that was in part because BP my favourite pastime was throwing myself out of a plane and I guess she probably thought I shouldn't be skydiving at 40! Grin

Still waiting for those definite kicks from bean, at the moment never sure if it is wind or not Blush

Got some maternity stuff in the post today. Got this dress from Top Shop, which I'm really pleased with. I haven't shopped there in years! Had no idea they did maternity but learnt they did here on mumsnet (of course!). :)

Also got a couple of tops from ebay.

Does anyone know where you can get colourful maternity tights?

aufaniae · 21/11/2012 18:15

Ooh, and I used a voucher code for 10% off, which I found on a thread here too. Can't remember where now, I'll post it here if I find it again!

ratbagcatbag · 21/11/2012 20:44

Hi all

Can when the next update gets done on stats change me to 31st march. Also big hello to dandelion who's going to qmc. I'm having mine at the city :) you must be fairly local to me.

I found new look the best by far for maternity wear. :)

Giddypants · 21/11/2012 20:52

Evening ladies, I'm also swelling at the end of a 12 hr shift, where sitting is not usually an option! Had a transfer to CT and neuro ICU (different hospital 20 mins away) which I usually love, but not at 6pm when I've been on since 7:30!

Bump is quite big, and everyone is saying I'm big for 21 weeks, gee thanks!
Must admit I'm a bit of a whale, but I'm 5'1 and have no real abdomen usually a size 10 so I think I just pop out really quickly nothing else has grown except boobs, which is expected.
Lots of big kicks here actually making my belly wobble DH has felt a few also.
My back is still a problem but I can't get a referral to the physio until January! Bloody NHS! The ironic thing is I have loads of physios friends.

Hope everyone is having a nice evening I'm going to bed soon so tired lately! (Any excuse Grin)

aufanie- if you find any good colourful maternity tights please let me know. I bought a grey wooly pair from Mothercare which were £10 and lasted 2 wears before they got a big hole in the crotch!! I emailed head office and have got money back, but won't buy tights from there again! But am in desperate need of some maternity tights!!

congrats on more scans!

I woke up a bit weird this morning, nothing was hurting but my tummy felt odd & when my bump was all on one side & it felt kind of tight? It was back to normal really quickly & felt fine since. Could it have been braxton hicks? or just the baby getting in an awkward position?

I'm still not in maternity clothes, trying to keep eye on Ebay but pretty much living in leggings & flowy summer dresses (Wearing a warm coat for outside, but am generally very warm since being pregnant, lucky am not having a summer pregnancy).

EssexWessex good luck for scan! Looking forward to your update.

Feeling loads of wiggles & kicks here & have been for at least a month but this is baby number 2.

Work continues to be very hectic but I am on holiday from Friday for a whole eight days! Yippee! We are off to the Lake District.

My cousin had her baby boy this morning named Joshua. 2 hr labour! Think I'll have one of those please! Saying that I progressed very rapidly (3cm to 10cm in less than an hour) last time unfortunately madam had both hands either side of her head and got stuck so it was epidural & forceps. It really wasn't too bad tbh, despite looking terrible 'on paper' - epidural, forceps, large episiotomy, PPH I was fine after about 5 days! Walking miles with the pram & feeling mentally and physically great. I wonder whether my attitude of 'just get it out & make sure we are both ok' helped?? I spent hours researching & preparing to breastfeed which really mattered to me & wasn't too fussed on how baby gets here.

Did have a moment of pregnant brain yesterday, we live on a gated RAF base. Pulled up to the gate on the way home & casually waved my ID after getting it out my wallet to be told 'Maam that is a Boots Advantage Card' & so it was Grin they are the same colour!

Good luck Essex and all others with scans today (there's at least one more, sorry I can't remember who!). I've got mine but not til this afternoon, it feels like a long wait. DH also has a job interview this morning so overall quite a tense ( but hopefully exciting) day. I have got a bit of pain in my hips/pelvis (hoping it's round ligaments and not pgp) so wee bit nervous about the scan as at 12 weeks I was a bit tender after as she had pressed down so hard-does bigger baby this time = easier to see = press less hard?

edinfirst · 22/11/2012 07:56

Ps breathless baby brain has seriously kicked in here and is driving me nuts. I am usually really organised and on top of things so I'm really frustrated that I'm making mistakes at work and having to triple check everything.

SneezySnatcher · 22/11/2012 08:13

username I've been getting Braxton Hicks for a week or so. About once a day I notice my bump has gone really hard. I seem to remember reading they can start to be noticable around mid-way, especially with second and subsequent pregnancies.

Trishstar · 22/11/2012 09:55

Good luck with any scans today ladies!!!

Had my first vivid dream about the sex of the baby, it was clearly a boy!

Actually have the scan on Tuesday! Hurry up!!!

Good luck everyone who had scans today xx

birdbrain17 · 22/11/2012 11:01

username I find that when I wake up in the morning my bump is really hard and a bit lopsided, I don't think it's braxton hicks just the baby being in a funny position from the way I sleep, then again this is dc1 so I actually don't really know much about braxton hicks!

empress It's great having the scan over and done with. My MIL has been buying us loads of stuff but I didn't want to see anything till after the scan. It was so much fun last night to go round and see what she's got us already although I did nearly cry when I saw the tiny little newborn vests. I'm so excited to go and buy more stuff now Grin

Has anybody noticed how many student sonographers there are. At both my scans there was a student in the room which was great because then the sonographer was explaining everything properly to the student, and a lot of people on here also seem to have had students. I know a few people training as midwives but didn't realise sonography was also popular.

20+4 Smile Grin

Trishstar · 22/11/2012 11:12

Has anybody who is a on the curvier side before pregnancy found that the top tier of belly has joined with the proper bump yet?!

I'm still waiting! I know we were discussing it not long ago! xx

somewherebecomingrain · 22/11/2012 11:18

Is anyone who has had their scan now thinking the last bit of exciterment is over how do I get through the next 20 weeks? Mama 1980 excepted - thinking of you hon it sounds reasonably hopeful crossing everything for u xx

Mama1980 · 22/11/2012 11:56

Hi all so excited to hear the scan news and hopefully more later- good luck to everyone having theirs today Smile
Thanks again for all the pm s and good wishes. All much the same here, feeling as positive as I dare this is torture though to be so close to 24 weeks and yet have it seem so far as well.

growyourown77 · 22/11/2012 12:22

welcome milktray! We signed up for NCT, but only after checking that it won't be a hardcore "breast and natural birth is best" route and that people with other options and questions will be accommodated. I didn't want it to be a waste of money - but i do hope it we might meet one or two people locally who we might want to hang out with.

wishful don't forget that you actually DID have the baby with you...the kids just couldn't see it. Grin

wombat i know what you mean about the mix of insomnia (just started this week now my catheter is out and I don't have the night bag any more - back to peeing multiple times in the night - don't get me wrong, i'm grateful to be peeing again!). The insomnia is made worse by my brain's propensity to create mad, disturbing and sometimes interesting dreams that make me feel twice as knackered. I had a stinking cold for the last 5 weeks...grim. My usual manuka honey and lemon doesn't touch it.

Finally got an appt with an obstetrician with a specialism in urology to investigate why the retention happened, so bring on monday, as I've been having really strong, painful pullings both side in my lower pelvis (much more than the initial stretching twinges and the fundus still seems low to MW.

Anyone else had really strong pulling both sides and low? To the extent that you go 'ouch!'?

edinfirst me too, I now have an A4 week by week planner on the fridge, it's tearoff as you go and it's been brilliant at keeping me on task [and knowing which day of the week it is]. It is constantly updated and even DH/MiL find it handy to see my week ahead. I will buy another for next year [i picked it up mid year for £1 in National Trust shop]. Pre DC I lived by my diary, but then I had lots of volunteer roles and ran a few groups, so always needed to be on the ball.

mama fingers still crossed for you.

trishstar still waiting... mine looks like a triple decker. DD sat low in my pelvis and this one seems to sit higher as I have a bit below bump as well as above Blush.

Had the letter through for my GTT... new year's eve... sounds like bliss, 2 hours on the sofa in the MLU lounge, listening to the archers and reading a good book... our PCT have decided that everyone has a GTT no matter BMI. Went to Health Clinic [for those that have a high BMI] had a group chat about meals, managing weight gain etc. I've lost weight again this pregnancy [like jacqueline] I had lost weight before having DD, craved fruit the whole way through and though I haven't lost/gained after DD, I am again loosing weight as I just have no appetite or cravings, plus the nausea [which seems to be passing, now]. It's more about maintaining healthy gain/loss rather than going up/down excessively.

H&M mama often do bright tights, usually find in store plenty of selection and online limited... don't know why... Bath is usually crap for range of clothes in store, yet H&M is fabulous and the maternity stuff is good quality, it's been from me to two friends and now back to me. Worn through the first few weeks of breastfeeding too, though I went on to buy proper BF tops from them too, good value and allow easy access.

I bought a beautiful knitting book in the works for £3.99 that I had looked at patterns online a couple of nights earlier. What to knit when you are expecting... it's so lovely and simple patterns for those that are new. I am not splashing out on posh yarn but using stuff up out of my stash which is mid-range stuff [or sale bargains]. Might start a separate thread on Arts and Crafts though about knitting little baby stuff.

leluella · 22/11/2012 16:12

Well just back from my scan and all is well although the sonographer was a bit of a misery and I could hardly see the screen and for some reason I started spinning out and thought i was going to faint.

Anyway it looks like its a girl which was my not so secret preference so am very happy!

Hope everybody elses scans went well today.

birdbrain17 · 22/11/2012 16:45

Oh yeah I just remembered forgot to say in my earlier post re:childbirth classes, I asked a few friends of mine whether they paid for nct or went to the free nhs ones at the hospital and the friends who went to nhs said the classes were fine and one friend who did both said after going to the nhs ones it was a waste of money to pay for nct. I know this was being discussed not long ago so hope it can help people make up there minds.
