Oooooh my book says they can see the gender from 13 weeks so I wonder if they will be able to see at 12+5. I think you said MrsB that you wanted a surprise anyway.

Thun family have reacted well apart from one sister who is not taking it so well and didn't even bother to say congratulations to my DH or say a blinking word when she had dinner with us on Sat night which I think is just rude! I get that she has no Boyf and is not married so its a sore point for her, i really understand that but, she could have just said congratulations or any one work to acknowledge our good news. It doesn't hurt to just say something. Her behaviour this week has been a bit childish as she is now ignoring me

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 12:15

work = word

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 12:16

Saying that my brother didn't bother to text me back but I guess he's a man! As my mother says our news won't be exciting for everyone...that why we can all shout about it on here Grin

Thundernonk · 08/11/2012 12:43

Oh dear, mixed response then, pear. You're right your sis (and bro) should indeed have said something, even just out of politeness at your good news. I do know the terrible gut sinking feeling of getting this kind of news when you are not yourself in a position to do it yourself. I know how difficult that is so may have a little bit of understanding for your sister. That said she definitely should have seen through her own pain to share in your good news, no question.

Either way it must feel good to have it out in the open at last. I bet sods law says you haven't got any baby showers coming up that you can actually be officially pregnant at!

OP posts:
peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 13:30

Yep I have no baby showers and no planned events to see friends...sods law indeed Grin

Lorelei353 · 08/11/2012 14:35

I'm nervous about telling my brother pear. He's almost three years older than me and he and his wife have been married a year longer than I have (so 2 years 4 months now) and started TTC almost immediately. She did briefly get pregnant but miscarried very early and then had to have some cysts removed over a year ago. Since then, nothing's happening. She's a primary schoolteacher and loves kids and you should see how amazing she is with my almost-three-year-old niece (who adores her). I know my brother will be happy for me, but it'll be tough to tell him about it, as I don't want to be all happy, happy and insensitive about it.

My sister is likely to scream, but then, she's the only person we told we were TTC so she'll be expecting it.

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 15:03

Oh Lor that sounds really tricky. Your poor brother an SIL. My heart really goes out to those who have to wait longer then 6mths. I feel like I got a very tiny tiny view of what it must be like buy I really can't imagine what it's like waiting past 6 mths, especially when you're experiencing cyst removal! I would have gone stir crazy myself, if must be awful. I'm sure you will find the right sensitive way to tell your brother when the time comes.

Lorelei353 · 08/11/2012 17:40

Yeah. It'll be tough for her to hear I think. I'll ring my brother when the time comes and he can tell his wife.

MrsBri · 08/11/2012 17:54

Ah, that is tricky, Lorelei :-/ I'm sure you'll be sensitive though. Poor SiL.

The person I'm dreading telling is my cousin, whose son died earlier this year. I know he will be happy for me, but it'll also remind him more of what he's lost too. :-(

And I agree with you, Peardrop, about your siblings. How upsetting for you with your sister. Were you close before?

Thundernonk · 08/11/2012 18:51

Very tricky, both nic and lor.....sensitive conversations ahead I think. Good luck with them!

Jojoba1986 · 08/11/2012 20:47

I feel crampy. Sad Someone tell me it's normal! Please?!

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 20:49

JoJo totally normal. I feel crampy a lot too.

MrsB it depends what you call close. I would say close enough for us all to be happy when one announces happy baby news!

bringonthetrumpets · 08/11/2012 21:30

You're growing Jo! Maybe have a large drink of water to eliminate any dehydration and take a nice warm bath or shower. Should help tone down the cramping.

MrsBri · 09/11/2012 07:06

That's a real shame, Peardrop. Do / did you do much together? Do you think she's jealous not only that you're having a baby, but also of the baby as you won't have as much time for her?

People / families never cease to amaze me with their reactions to news.

Like Bri's dad when we got engaged! Ah well, I'll leave somebody else to tell him the baby news. I may see him launch into orbit from our flat though!! :-)

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 09/11/2012 07:12

Ooh mrs your bitchy office girl would have a field day with me today. I've had to wear a maternity top as nothing else is ironed fits, and even DH said I look pregnant. I don't think I can hold of telling them for much longer as they're just going to guess anyway. And I'm only 10+4.

Jojoba1986 · 09/11/2012 07:21

Sorry to hear about people's families' reactions to happy news! I remember being disappointed that my mum didn't seem excited when I told her about DS1 but I understood - she had a MMC with her first pregnancy at 10 weeks so she was being cautious. I was convinced I was going to lose DS before 12 weeks purely based on her experience! Hmm

Talking of 10 weeks... Our little Pretzel is now a foetus the size of a kumquat & has fingernails apparently! Aww! Teeny tiny fingernails! Grin My nausea has been so much better the last couple of days. No tablets for 2 days now & no sick feeling at all yesterday! Which in no way makes me even slightly concerned about MMCs... Blush

MrsBri · 09/11/2012 07:29

Weirdly, Jojo...I haven't felt ill today, but still managed to be sick while brushing my teeth! I really am struggling to do that as I've gone off the taste of toothpaste!

I look pregnant too, Frustrated, at 7+6. We are a great pair, aren't we?

I have IT training almost all day today, so won't be near the bitch. Thank god!

Thundernonk · 09/11/2012 07:34

Morning all! Oh the teeth brushing- I know that one. Never been sick but gagging and wretching all over the shop!

Thank God it's Friday eh?

bringon I love your calm reassuring responses.

jojo, isn't it pretty textbook that your nausea is passing now? Doesnt help the worry though I know.

OP posts:
Jojoba1986 · 09/11/2012 07:38

Yay for IT training! Grin

I'm also huge but as I don't leave the house at the moment it's really not an issue! It's going to take a while for me to readjust to normal life again! I feel like I need rehabilitation to learn how to not stay in bed all day! Hmm

mrsb Have you tried getting that horrible strawberry flavoured stuff they make for kids? Might be better than mint & it must be better than nothing!

Jojoba1986 · 09/11/2012 07:41

Yes, completely textbook! I'm just irrational & a little freaked out after cramping last night! That stopped after I had a drink. Thanks trumpets, I forgot dehydration could cause it! Blush

Thundernonk · 09/11/2012 07:56

Totally understandable jojo, what a relief it'll be after the scan eh?

Cramping all gone today too?

OP posts:
peardrop2 · 09/11/2012 08:26

JoJo aww like Punch and Judy strawberry toothpaste ;-)

MrsB I think my sister is overwhelmed because I've got married, brought a family house an fallen pregnant all in six months. It's like DH gave me the remote control when we stood at the aisle and I finally got to press the fast forward button Grin My life is so different to hers now (single & house sharing) that she hasn't taken it well (she has depression anyway). Sometimes if I ignore her for a few months she comes bouncing back. She was a bit like this at the start of our engagement now that I think about it!

Happy Friday everyone!

MrsBri · 09/11/2012 08:48

You'll just have to hope she comes round, Peardrop...can't let her affect your happiness.

Just the idea of strawberry toothpaste makes me want to be sick!

Got creeping nausea again now. Thank god...was feeling a bit un pregnant there for a while!!

Jojoba1986 · 09/11/2012 09:08

I hate the idea of strawberry toothpaste too, just thought it might be an alternative!

Cramping seemed to be gone but then just started to come back a minute ago... Have had a wee now so hopefully that's all it was! Am also feeling a little queasy - must be nap time! I'm now incapable of sleeping more than 4 hours at a time but need to do that 3 times a day! Roll on 12 weeks! Wink

Jojoba1986 · 09/11/2012 09:10

Oh, & my boobs still hurt... As DS was very keen to prove to me this morning! Ouch! Hmm
