And Guinness cake, dorset apple cake, fire cracker cheesecake (popping candy), dime bar cheesecake, and various other inventions. (Personally I can't stand cheesecake). but they're not for me so it doesn't matter

Thundernonk · 30/10/2012 17:57

Are they for me?

Shall I stick a slice of each in a bubble wrap envelope and post? [hgrin] he makes them for local food establishments. He's currently simultaneously doing an order for an established customer and some samples for a prospective customer.

Thundernonk · 30/10/2012 18:07

Yes please! Grin

Hmmm I haven't tried liquorice for a while! Raisins seemed to work well yesterday.

I am wearing my 'I survived the in laws' t-shirt :-) I have a funny story for the thread. Before they left MIL offered me her white new t-shirt that she says is too big for her now. She wondered whether it will come in handy when I grown a tummy. It was a very sweet gesture but the size is 20 and I am size 10! Because I didn't want to be rude I said thank you! OMG please please please don't let me grow to size 20! Grin

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 30/10/2012 18:17

pear is it nice and baggy, and is it comfy? If it is it could be ideal for labour.

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 30/10/2012 18:20

Ps pear you won't get that big, I've never gone up more than 2 sizes. But huge t-shirts and soft huge shirts are great for labour and post birth when you want to slob about and not be restricted.

peardrop2 · 30/10/2012 18:59

Frus it's hard to describe really. It's not like a t-shirt, t-shirt it . It's more like a tunic t-shirt with ties if that makes any sense! It was a lovely thought, just scared me to think I could grow that big but if you say you only grew two sizes then hopefully I won't go further then size 14!

bringonthetrumpets · 30/10/2012 19:01

Bri other things you could try for constipation: flax seeds, eating a lot of roughage (kale, swiss chard, collard greens, etc.), whole grain/whole wheat bread, dried fruits like others have mentioned, or having a half a cup of coffee (if you don't already drink it) after you've eaten breakfast. I hate to sound like a broken record.... liquid calcium/magnesium works wonders too Wink.

MrsBri · 30/10/2012 19:03

I want bubble wrapped and posted treats too please! Nom.

And I love that idea, but I just know that somehow I'd be the one who ends up in trouble somehow. :-/

Nice of your MiL, Peardrop! She means well!

Oh, just made DH buy some sticks to piss on as my stocks were far too low when I found out, so hadn't had enough POAS action after my positive tests. Diluted wee and uber strong line. Nice to see as I'm struggling to get my head round it. Especially as I feel constipated, not pregnant!

Also bought lactulose. That should clear me out come the weekend. I'll start taking it tomorrow so I don't get the required reaction at Muse on Thursday!

MrsBri · 30/10/2012 19:10

I hate coffee, trumpets. DH just mentioned that. I have a really good diet which works a treat in normal circumstances. This not going is totally foreign to me. :-/

I'll try everything else though!

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 30/10/2012 20:12

ooh bubble wrap you could always just think it every time she says something.

peardrop2 · 30/10/2012 20:16

Anyone watching Pride of Britain? I'm getting emotional and it's only just begun...uh oh

MrsBri · 30/10/2012 20:19

No...we have George Clarke on. Far less tear inducing!

kittykatskumkwat · 30/10/2012 21:23

Laughs at pears tshirt Grin
You'd have to do alot of eating to get to that point, I only went up 1 size in normal clothes as long as they were a certain type, ie with abit of stretch like a vest top not like a shirt etc in maternity I had to go a size smaller?! Very strange
Yeay for strong lines!!
I've got to say I'm not turned on by the cake thoughts but if you were offering to send me a maccys on the other hand.....

MrsBri · 31/10/2012 06:31

Morning!

Another shit night's sleep :-/

And I'm getting that tugging / digging sensation left and right again today...hello twins, ha ha!How are people today?

kittykatskumkwat · 31/10/2012 07:43

Morning Smile
Not wanting to rub anything in but I feel pretty good, yesterday apart from an hour or so I actually felt myself, first time in ages and I'm not going to worry, I'm just going to enjoy!
Had my midwife app, long but didn't do much, no bloods etc, mine gets done at 12wk scan! Was going to ask frus or bring on a question with you being more experienced mums, what do you make of the whole new matress thing? Was told to get a new one but when I asked why couldn't really give an answer why other then cot death, I know its because of that but I wanted to know why ie, because they could be very old or someone had smoked iyswim, mine was a expensive silent night one which is only a year old and u feel abit like really will it make any difference?! Obviously I don't want to do anything to put bubs at risk but the other half GENUINLY can't think what would be wrong in using the same one if I turned it over and round so it was even a different end ?! Thoughts ??

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 31/10/2012 10:05

Morning kitty I'm glad you're feeling good.

Mattresses, I have to start by saying that I would not give you can conflicting advice to what the midwives have told you. They give their advice for a reason. And cot death is a very serious reason.
Now, I will tell you what I have done in the past. Demographically we live in a deprived area, things are passed on a lot, and I'm not the type of person to say no. And I buy alot of items second hand. Our crib and cot were given to us by a friend. The crib had a cheap foam mattress that I replaced every time. The cot (being an odd size) had an expensive over £100 mattress (because the cheap options were not available). It was a plastic covered one, and as dd1 had a cot aversion and rarely slept in it, I reused it for dd2. Who used it for a year. I passed it on to a friend, who replaced the mattress. She has passed it back with the mattress she bought. (Used by 1 child) it is again an expensive, sprung, and plastic(?) covered mattress, I will flip it.
This conflicts with the advise that the midwives give. But is my choices. Smile

kittykatskumkwat · 31/10/2012 10:40

Thanks frus, dont worry I know what you mean about conflicting advice and wasn't holding you to it lol it's just I guess when youve had 1 ( and lost abit of that 1st timers paranoia) you think more objectively about things, I think it's nonsence for instance that someone would refuse a second hand car seat from a family member you knew the full history of etc. I too get alot second hand and from car boots ect like toys books and what not and have saved loads, my matress was a really expensive one £190 silent night pocket sprung abd what not and has had a waterproof cover over since we bought it, if it has a zip off cover aswell I would obviously take that off aswell put it on a hot wash then turn it, havnt made a definate choice yet with sleeping arrangements as to whether just to get a new cot as dd will only be 20 months or get a new bed for her and swap rooms but don't really want to buy 2 new mattresses , I think I was wondering if anyone had the same thoughts as me, it's seems a big expense and waste for something that is in immaculate condition

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 31/10/2012 11:08

And because I like to share, I've had to buy new bras. The lady measuring did ask if I wanted a maternity one, oh no, certainly not, I told her I was a padding and underwired gal. Grin

Thundernonk · 31/10/2012 11:11

I've bought new bras too! I went for the maternity ones to give em a go. They are comfy. I also got some sleep tops as I was waking myself up trying to erm arrange my painful nips. Ahhhhh.

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 31/10/2012 11:14

After dd1 I gave my travel system to a friend (and car seat) and she used it. But if we had had and accident I wouldn't have given her the seat that and I always get insurance that covers the car seats, so they'd get replaced anyway I have no qualms with second hand stuff, especially when I know the background.(and the family)

bringonthetrumpets · 31/10/2012 13:06

Kitty from what I've read about new/old mattresses is....

When you buy a new mattress and use it for a baby, the heat from the child and the dead skin cells induce fungus growth which feeds on the chemicals and produces toxic gases. For the first child as it grows, it's not affected by this because it starts out in such small amounts and its ability to breathe and change positions, etc. develops, iykwim.

So fast forward a year or two and you have another baby....the fungus is still there producing the gases, but at higher levels. You put a newborn in who is very small, has an immature respiratory system, and there is a "cloud" of fumes floating on top of the mattress that are undetectable which could increase the chance for cot death.

The recommendation is if you want to reuse a mattress, put a plastic cover that goes over the entire mattress on and put a slit on the bottom of the cover so that any gasses can vent out away from the newborn. Otherwise you can try to find a more organic mattress, but they are very expensive!

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 31/10/2012 13:49

So you could steam clean the mattress? Like you do to the ones on a normal bed?
