mydaydream just get supermarket brand everything! just as good. Although I've had some bad experiences with Tesco nappies so if i can afford it i do buy pampers nappies (although in bulk/on offer to Make them good value) Don't panic, people will be asking 'can I get you anythin?' Once you have the baby. And like pidj said - Christmas list for the less urgent things. But if you do really want to get lots of bits in then I would have a brain storm and write a good old list Smile I do LOVE a list. I've written FAR too many!
Sorry to hear of crappy DPs, I think our secret is the fact he's been out at work all weekend! Have a good rant and treat yourself to cake/chocolate.
Awful day today, DD is in 'awful 3 year old' mood today, had screams and stares all the way round the supermarket and then the washing liquid dropped on the ground, split, and went everywhere. Including me. I don't know how I haven't cried!

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 21/10/2012 15:29

I have a couple of packs of pampers due to vouchers, otherwise cheap as possible - they're only going to get shat on! A lot of my friends knit (so presents aren't terribly spontaneous, I've got an idea of what's coming due to people checking I'm ok with handmade) and can guarantee you'll be inundated with outfits, toys, nappy cakes etc.

Ps my philosophy is: if you're given a present, say thank you it's lovely. If it's vile, put it at the back of the cupboard ready for that first bout of d+v Blush

SpottyTeacakes · 21/10/2012 15:32

Can someone please make me a roast???!

I found tesco nappies were good for dd although the Pampers ones are pretty cheap to start with anyway. Now she's bigger we buy the Pampers Simply Dry which are just their value range and cheaper than standard Tesco ones.

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 21/10/2012 15:54

I got the smallest pack of nb pampers in Boots to get the free change bag!

Secondsop · 21/10/2012 16:12

Oh emilyeggs that sounds tough re your husband. It sounds a bit like he isn't really clocking that although it's not his first baby, it IS your first and that you need him to be as emotionally involved. Hope it improves - could you emphasise with him the importance of him being familiar with your birth plan because you're going to need him to be prepared to be your advocate for you in labour? . And as an owner of a cat, i know full well that there's no way to stop them meowing at 4am if that's what they want to do. In the same way that there is no way to stop my cat bashing at the bedroom door if we try to shut him out of it at night, or insisting on sleeping on my sofa blanket instead of his own.

Thanks for your tip about the pushchairs / carseats. I've just won the quinny buzz carrycot on eBay for £21 - am over the moon. I can drive, technically, but have barely done so for literally 15 years so if I'm taking him out by myself it's public transport all the way until I can get my driving skills and confidence back.

For whoever was asking about nappies - someone on another thread recommended Aldi nappies so I've bought some of them and will give them a go - as pidg says, they are indeed only going to get shat on!

emilyeggs · 21/10/2012 16:30

I've calmed down now, he enticed me home with a roast dinner. I don't think he means to upset me, he admits himself he's not very involved untill the baby arrives, that's just him and was the same with his two. He said he'll be excited when I go into labour and he is a good dad so I'm sure will find a balance. It's a combination of me being sensitive and him not so much

emilyeggs · 21/10/2012 16:31

Ps great news about the bargain carry cot seconds Grin

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/10/2012 16:34

If anyone has a Costco neat and a card/friend with a card. The pampers and Huggins work out cheap there. Also wipes. We got 18 panels of johnsons wipes from there for £11 on a multibuy offer. Also got 1000 nappy bags for around £5. Obviously you need some storage though!

Well today I have sorted a lot of stuff for our holiday, but I can't fully pack as I don't have enough pants! Lol but we've got the suitcases out and stuff too so that's nearly organised! 5 sleeps! Eeek!

It's dd's 8th birthday tomo! (I honestly can't work out how she got so old so fast!!) so I've got her presents out of the loft and bought her a cake. Thankfully she's at school all day so I don't have to try and do birthday entertainment. Then we've got mil coming over to do presents so the evening is pretty full!

DH has been jet washing the wooden decking today as I nearly went arse over tit getting the washing in the other day because it was soooo slippery! I have to make it up to him later though as normally that stuffs my job because he's got a bad back, so he's in pain now!

2blessed · 21/10/2012 16:36

seconds quinny was my 2nd choice, my friend had her baby last year and was happy with it.
mummycox my DP threatened me with taking charge of pushchair buying when I was doing my usual weighing up of choices -dithering- and it would have taken him all of 3 minutes also!
emily hope a bit of space has made yoi feel better, this is my dc1 and dp's dc4 and there have been times when I've felt he's not as excited as me. Then last week when we were chatting about first few days after lo arrives and I saw the cutest smile on his face. He's excited, just showing it differently...

Secondsop · 21/10/2012 16:49

Re wipes, a couple of weeks ago mothercare had "buy 1 get 2 free" (yes I did get the numbers the right way round) - not sure if it's still on.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/10/2012 16:50

I like Boots and Tesco wipes because they have a hard top and are easier to get out one handed!

Mummycox · 21/10/2012 17:43

Spotty Now I'm just confused about milk. I shall ask the hospital what they have when we have a tour in a couple of weeks. Obvs going to do my best but have an innate fear of not being able to feed at all.

SpottyTeacakes · 21/10/2012 17:55

There's not much between them to be honest. But if the midwives think your baby needs supplementing more medical reasons I'm pretty sure they'll supply it for you. If not your dh can pop to the shop and get some ready made cartons Smile in fact you could just get some of them anyway they're not expensive and a couple of them won't take up much room

Secondsop · 21/10/2012 18:27

I'm taking a couple of cartons of ready made milk along with the disposable teats in to hospital with me just in case. I think my hospital supplies formula if (and only if) you can't breastfeed for medical reasons.

We really need to put together the baby's wardrobe so that we can start storing his things - everything's all over the house at the moment. My husband is truly useless at such things though and gets all flustered, so I'm going to have to take the lead with it. We had a houseguest for several months this year (about which, don't get me started) but his major, major redeeming feature was that he was an absolute ninja with flat pack construction.

emilyeggs · 21/10/2012 18:35

Just blubbed at Dumbo Sad the scene with his mother

SpottyTeacakes · 21/10/2012 18:54

Poor dd has a temperature. Stupid teeth Sad she's been so good all day though you wouldn't know she's poorly!

Cookiesandcream06 · 21/10/2012 19:00

Hospitals could well be different but when I chose to abandon the breast feeding plan they had little bottles of SMA, Aptamil and Cow and Gate which they happily let me use for feeds. The nice assistant even gave me a few to take home for the first day as I had nothing by way of steriliser, bottles or formula as I had been set on bf.

I used to find the tesco nappies would leak at night thus resulting in wee covered sheets and a damp baby Sad also had more poo explosions in public, on average. At times I would buy a small pack of pampers and a big pack of supermarket brand and kept the pampers for night and outings! But there is absolutely nothing wrong with non branded nappies.

My god I'm going to lose the plot today! Vry much faced with 'how am I going to cope?!' Syndrome today!

Great news on carry cot!! Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 21/10/2012 19:08

I think it's another one of those things that depends on the shape of your baby. My sisters dd leaks all the time even through cloth whereas dd never has.

That's what they fm gave us for dd, we used Aptimil

Dp is folding the towels, I want to do them all again Hmm

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/10/2012 19:53

spotty I get like that when DH hangs washing lol

SpottyTeacakes · 21/10/2012 19:57

Argh does he do it all randomly; things inside out, socks not in pairs etc?!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/10/2012 20:02

Yep and, and, and he doesn't shake or straighten things so they're all creased and some may be 4/6 layers thick where they're pegged!

How he thinks it will ever dry I don't know!! Lol

MyDaydream · 21/10/2012 20:02

DP isn't allowed to do washing anymore. He hangs everything folded in half to save space but doesn't get that's why everything takes days to dry and smells funny. But he doesn't like my standard of washing up or cleaning windows so it all works out.

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 21/10/2012 20:05

Dp is fab at laundry - but hangs stuff crumpled on the airer and moans it takes forever to dry Hmm

We did it together today and i went round him straightening it all Blush

Cot up, washed baby clothes in drawers, curtains hung... It's all starting to come together

SpottyTeacakes · 21/10/2012 20:06

Hmm we need to send them to some kind of boot camp! Dp has a habit of hiding things in cupboards too Hmm

SpottyTeacakes · 21/10/2012 20:07

Exciting pidj Grin

As of 31st October I have fortnightly scans so know it'll go really quick from then!
