Blush he couldn't understand why I wouldn't let him help me to the loo after I had had dd Grin I had to explain that what happens in labour stays there and never gets revisited or brought up again!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 20/10/2012 14:58

I'm not anti epidural but will try and cope without one if I can. I had dd with just g+a then with ds I wanted something 'more' so I had pethidine but he was out within 10 minutes so it didn't affect him, I was rather sleepy in the bath after though Grin

Having some painful braxton hicks today. Every half hour or so. This baby best stay put until at least the 5th nov!!

I hope honey is ok.

MaMaPo · 20/10/2012 15:14

Interestingly, I had heard nothing but bad experiences with pethidine, but another friend said she had it and said it was completely wonderful - 'first bit of the labour I enjoyed', she said. Immediate relief, and she met her lovely daughter soon afterwards.

Cookiesandcream06 · 20/10/2012 15:41

One of my regrets was that I was really out of it and following haemorrhage (spelling?!!) after and surgery/ blood transfusions etc i really did miss the first day or two as well, and this time I want to not be drowsy etc. I know how you feel spotty I am a bit apprehensive and prey things are a bit more straight forward! I have no memories Sad

I had a friend who really liked her pethidine but ill deffo be voting no this time! I'm really all for the birthing pool but only a couple of rooms have one in our hospital Sad

Cookiesandcream06 · 20/10/2012 15:43

And spotty I really am chuckling to myself from visions of you hovering Grin

ahh feck off!! Angry

cashmere · 20/10/2012 16:16

I bought this tens last time.
www.birthease.co.uk/birthease_shop/Neurotrac-TENs-Machine-Buy.shtml
It cost £42 so was the cheapest I could find but I really liked it. Just had to buy new pads for it this time.

HoneyMum21 · 20/10/2012 17:29

Hello all. Finally home from hospital on strict instruction to go back if the pains get worse. Still wanting to finish my last couple of weeks at work but DH is def against the idea so am gonna see how I am after a decent night's sleep. Thank you for all your messages and thoughts over the past few days.

Random question- has anyone else found their vision going weird in pregnancy - especially when I'm tired one of my eyes is getting kind of gluey and a bit blurry but from a sticky way rather than an neurological one if that makes any sense!

SpottyTeacakes · 20/10/2012 17:41

Welcome back honey Grin dry eyes are common in pregnancy and you can get drops from the chemist. I'm inclined to agree with your dh on this one!

Bellaboo123 · 20/10/2012 17:53

Welcome back honey glad you're feeling better, take it easy and see how you feel.

I'm whacked went out shopping this afternoon and was talking on my phone as walking and DP made me stop as he said I was heavy breathing down the phone!

Thanks for the tips on raspberry leaf - think I'm going to try and get the capsules.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/10/2012 17:55

AIBU to expect to be able to contact dp at all times ATM? Being 30 weeks pregnant and all? He is meant to finish work at five, told me he was only working down the road, yet isn't back yet. I phoned a couple of times just after five and he didn't answer Angry way too afraid of AIBU I don't think I am though?!

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 20/10/2012 17:58

Hi honey glad to hear you're doing better. I'm with your DH too, take it very easy.

As I said, if I need it I'll take the epidural but if I can manage without I'd like to do that. I don't think oneupmanship comes into it as what happens in the delivery suite stays in the delivery suite if DP values his balls

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 20/10/2012 18:01

I'm the same spotty, my DP text me the other day to let me know the engine had exploded in his works van, on a 4 lane viaduct on the M6! He then didn't pick up his phone for 2 hours. I was convinced I was raising this baby alone! Hormonal and unreasonable, maybe. Completely allowed as we're pregnant, absolutely!

OP posts:
MyDaydream · 20/10/2012 18:20

I'm not against epidural, it's not in my plans since I want to birth at the local MLU rather than further away hospital. If I'm transferred to the hospital I'll take anything they recommend since something will be wrong that needs fixing.
I'm a bit scared of all painkillers at the minute since everything I read about them says its like being a bit drunk and I hate being drunk, really don't want that in labour. But go to hospital late, hopefully waterbirth, hopefully they won't fawn over me too much and just guide me to getting on with it and hopefully it won't last too long!
I'm in so much pain today. My bump is hard and its uncomfortable to stand/walk/lay/sit unless I'm really leaning forward and then my back starts to hurt. My lower bump is rock hard and if I have a braxton then my whole bump hardens. It's uncomfortable (read: really fucking painful) and I don't know if it warrants calling someone because other than monitor me and give me some paracetamol I can't see what could be done. I just want a moan.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/10/2012 18:31

That's rubbish MyDaydream you're right though they will tell you to take some paracetamol and try to rest! If they get more frequent/painful then you need to call someone

DP is home now, apparently he couldn't hear his phone as he was on the dumper truck Hmm

SpottyTeacakes · 20/10/2012 19:15

£22.95 for that Elle Tens machine on eBay for 7 weeks hire with free delivery, I think I read you can't use them before 36 weeks though, although hopefully that won't matter!

Cookiesandcream06 · 20/10/2012 19:29

Great to hear from you honey glad you're home and everything is ok. I think he might just be right make sure you get lots of rest and make him do lots for you. I'm thinking numerous cups of tea/biscuits in front of a good box set.

spotty all rational thinking goes out the window during pregnancy and the crazy hormones take over. Completely normal. DP still isn't home. Chocolate and Saturday night tv for me!
Sounds good for the tens machine, I've never thought about using one...

Mummycox · 20/10/2012 19:38

Welcome home honey

Spotty what is it with Saturdays and DH? Wink

Pram arrived today.

MyDaydream · 20/10/2012 19:50

I always go by the theory if I'm annoyed at DP I'm not being unreasonable. Most of our disagreements could be avoided with a little forward planning and motivation on his part!
I got my Maternity allowance confirmation back today, very happy it's come through just in time since the company DP uses to sort his wages out cocked up for the second month in a row. So crap at paying him, so good at taking their cut of his wage for their 'services'. Thinking of getting him to call up and say I'm dealing with it all now so they can explain to angry hormonal pregnant lady why she can't finish her baby shopping yet again.
Also started looking at cars since I have my driving test next week and I can't fail. Ill try bribery if it comes to that but I want to be allowed to drive!

SpottyTeacakes · 20/10/2012 19:50

Oooo what did you go for Mummycox? Mine's arriving Monday!

He's forgiven now because he's gone out to buy me cake!

I'm struggling to breathe atm and sitting here groaning/moaning so he probably just wanted to get away quick!

SpottyTeacakes · 20/10/2012 19:52

Oh Good Luck MyDaydream! I will have everything crossed for you!

emilyeggs · 20/10/2012 20:21

Welcome back honey plenty of r&r for you Biscuit

Little one hardly moved today other than a few kicks this morning before work. Just had to run a bit for a bus and thought that might wake him/her up but no Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 20/10/2012 20:23

emily cold drink, preferably sugary of caffeine fuelled and a lay down with your hand resting on your bump, you're bound to get booted!

2blessed · 20/10/2012 20:30

Welcome back honey, make sure you take it easy.
Ive had a glorious day, picked up pramsuit for LO then came home and went straight to bed for 5 hours - bliss! Just had dinner, will have cream slice in front of x factor then off to bed. Most relaxed I've felt in ages.
After catching up on posts, I'm considering a tens machine am such a wuss with pain and needles, even though you don't see epidural going in.

emilyeggs · 20/10/2012 20:31

Thanks spotty will try that when I get in. Told dh and ha says baby probably asleep. Always makes me feel like I'm over reacting

kate2boysandabump · 20/10/2012 20:39

Welcome home Honey I think your dh is right plenty of rest after this. Changes to your eyes are quite common in pregnancy, my eyes have changed shape and I need to be fitted for new contact lenses.

MyDaydream How long did it take for your maternity allowance confirmation to come? I've filled in the form, just waiting for the paper work to go in it, if payroll get their arses in gear Hmm

Spotty Not unreasonable at all, good job he's going for cake Wink
