New thread here ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 19/10/2012 10:16

Hehe weejo my mum had me 2weeks early and my babies were both born 9days early. I'm hoping this one follows suit. But I'm not sure it's an accurate portrayal tbh. As for full moons, no idea tbh. My dcs managed to not be quite as satanic as they could. Dd was due on Halloween and came 22nd oct and ds was due on fri the 13th but came on the 4th! Lol

MyDaydream · 19/10/2012 11:15

honey hope you manage to get home soon.
stacey don't over do it, I got a productive mood on yesterday and attacked our spare room and I'm so uncomfortable today. I don't want to do anything but have to go into town.
I've started looking at nurseries for DS for when I go back to work, he's not here yet and us talking about morning sickness and not being able to wait for the first scan seems like last month now I'm having to think about him being 8 months old! I get the feeling the one I've fallen in love with will be prohibitively expensive and ill go into a big sulk.

coffeeandcream · 19/10/2012 11:30

Morning everyone,

What are we all up to? I'm finishing making my BIL's wedding invitations whilst watching BBCs Pride & Prejudice ... love it!

I washed all my LOs new clothes this morning and they are hanging up to dry ... made me realise, there's actually going to a baby in the house soon!

Cashmere, my due date is also 2nd December! But I'm not having a homebirth, midwife unit for me.

I'm writing my birthplan too - am going to stick it on the Pregnancy forum if anyone fancies giving me some opionions? TIA

mwahmwah · 19/10/2012 11:39

I am sick to death of racing heartbeat. Pulse is ridiculously high, midwife unconcerned cause it's the sane with each pregnancy and i've had the heart checks before. It's just horrible tho, makes me feel sick and faint. Not nice :( roll on 10 weeks time when all will be back to normal (ish)!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/10/2012 11:56

We're going out for lunch as its the last time my boss will see me. Yum! Still don't like him Wink

I get the heart racing too it's awful.

I'm going to go through my birth plan with consultant and specialist mw at 34 weeks mine will be a bit different to others though.... My advice would be to make sure your birth partner knows exactly what you want (obv it'll all be written down too) because you really will forget that you wanted to be mobile and wanted a ball etc etc

WeeJo08 · 19/10/2012 12:05

Coffee Just had a read of your birth plan and it looks very similar to what I'm thinking...I just wasn't sure how to go about starting it!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 19/10/2012 12:14

mwah my racing heart is brought on by dehydration. Have you been drinking enough?

Well I've done some bits and bobs, the house is looking a lot better but I'm so tired. I've done some ironing too but it brought on braxton hicks so I'm now sitting down with some lunch.

MyDaydream · 19/10/2012 12:19

coffee very similar to the ideas I've got in my head for my birth plan. I really just want to be left alone to get on with it as much as possible.
I keep mentioning to DP it might be nice if he gets some skin to skin cuddles in those first few hours too but he doesn't see the point because apparently he made the baby so he already has a bond with him. Although getting him to talk about labour and those first few days is like pulling teeth.

Clarella · 19/10/2012 13:43

Nct friend who popped on Monday at 32 weeks (in her work clothes!) said main thing that got her through in that slightly unprepared state was the tens, gas n air and a 'very hard lower back massage' if it helps anyone.

I looked at the nhs plan u can fill in to print off looked useful. Where is yours coffee? I think I'm being dozy.

Had quite a,lot of sobbing yesterday following consultant appt on weds, they won't let me go to lovely mw led unit due to my previous slapped cheek/crazy thyroid/work stressed induced anxiety despite no issues re thyroid now as they want to keep an eye on me post birth. I'm so.much happier and less anxious - no more than any other pregnant woman! - made me quite frustrated cos I don't feel it was 'my fault' - ffs, even the thyroxine I was on turned out to be faulty at 13 weeks, which was half the problem as no one knew about it. Hence trying to stabilise it ever since, which causes side effects of .... anxiety. I'm over it now :)

But after recent sudden baby events, I'm just going to do my plan as best as poss, including pool if possible, (there are 2 in doctor led bit but depends 'if they can spare the staff, so agree to a student and you might get one') plans b and c as equally doable and plan d (surprise 'let's freak daddy on stag do in London' baby) to just go with the flow! (i know which mates are free this wkend!)

kate2boysandabump · 19/10/2012 13:47

Sorry Cherrypie Me and my mum don't fit your theory my brother was 3 weeks early and my ds1 was 9 days late and I was 14 days late and my ds2 was 1 day early. She only had the 2 of us, so I guess I'm on my own this time.

Enjoy your lunch Spotty I hope your boss paid and you ordered something expensive Wink

I saw my medical student again today, he wants to know all about my physio and pelvic pain. He's very keen, but totally clueless. Although he was a bit more with it than last time I saw him. He's a bit of an 'aww bless'.

Clarella · 19/10/2012 13:48

Ps, my school got outstanding in surprise ofsted yesterday, but as its changed its very based on pupil progress, they chose 2 of my very autistic darlings from last year and compared progress Sept to Sept (and went and chatted to them bless! To test sp and language judgements) so not feeling so bad n guilty about not being there as all my hard work from Sept till May counted for a lot ( believe me! A year ago the inspector would have been whacked)

itsMYNutella · 19/10/2012 14:40

Clarella You should be proud! It is so lovely to have any reward when teaching and what you do certainly sounds like hard work so you should have a full chart of shiny gold stars; and a badge

Honey thinking of you and hope you and LO are well and that LO can stay put a bit longer!! FX

I saw my family at the weekend (it was pretty much my last chance to fly) and my eldest Bro - who has two kids- asked about my birthplan... it's very vague with the main theme being "see what happens" but I've just realised I'm going to have to translate it into German Confused oh crumbs! I better get on and write it so DP and my midwife can help me!!

coffeeandcream · 19/10/2012 14:53

Thanks for your comments on my birth plan ladies. I'm going to make a few small ammendments.

Spotty and Daydream - I'm going to go through it tonight with my DH who is very good at making himself heard so I know he'll be a great support and advocate for me. Fortunately, we have very similar views on how we would like the birth to be.

Clarella I put my plan on the pregnancy talk board. I didn't fancy filling out a 'form' from a website, it didn't feel personal enough.

TBH, I think the 'Lets see what happens' appraoch isn't too bad to have, or rather just keeping an open mind. That said, I really, really don't want forceps or ventouse [shudders] but we'll see what the midwives say....

SpottyTeacakes · 19/10/2012 15:02

I think the most important thing is knowledge. It's a scary thing and the unknown makes it worse so I think you're taking the best approach Smile

Tbh I don't think I'd consent to forceps again and if it looks as though things aren't progressing I would definitely rather a CS if possible.

EggsMichelle · 19/10/2012 16:11

I'm planning on taking the "go with the flow" birth plan approach, I have no idea what to expect and what will be best for me and the baby, and since I spend my days expecting patients to do as I tell them to, I suppose I will fit nicely into the role of being told what to do!

Secondsop · 19/10/2012 16:39

Gosh, birthplan, I haven't given barely any thought to mine. I start NCT antenatal classes in a couple of weeks - will they give me information about the options?

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 19/10/2012 16:40

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/1583065-LAST-CHANCE-MN-Christmas-appeal-2012-Nominations-and-Donations-thread?pg=2

Has everyone seen this? I managed to donate last year and will again as soon as I'm able. Have also nominated a couple of folk I know are struggling. Absolutely incredible Thanks

Cookiesandcream06 · 19/10/2012 17:58

weejo I was born a few days early, and my DD (going to have to start getting used to DD1 soon!) was born at 38+5 . Following my scan last week this DD is on course to be born on the 6th despite EDD the 12th. And based on the weight estimates will be 8lb something!

We shall see! Never heard about full moons though sorry!

Thanks guys feels great to be off, i must admit I do feel a bit guilty about being off already, I feel like pregnant women make it a competition to see who can work the longest sort of thing and I feel like people are thinking I'm lazy or something .. Blush

SpottyTeacakes · 19/10/2012 18:06

cookies I'm finishing at 32 weeks Grin did you go into labour naturally with your dd?

My pushchair is due to be delivered Monday so excited!!

I've already got dd's Christmas presents but have just seen a wooden toy kitchen in the sale at Asda for £35..... She would love it I'm very tempted.....

Clarella · 19/10/2012 18:24

I agree about that competition thing and think it very damaging in many ways - Congrats cookies!

Wow pidg, that is quite something, had no idea they did that.

Yes secondsop, I've found it really useful for all that. Second what spotty says, with anything knowledge is power! On that note just got 'stand and deliver' (1p on amazon!) on a recommendation and really liking dipping into random birth stories from everything from cs to premature births, water, etc and everything in between - think going to be quite helpful for both birth plan ideas but also just to read about range of ways it can all turn out as well as lots on 'getting things started' deffo a good recommendation. Forceps bit is bit I'm not sure of myself - I think ill have to put myself in hands of docs in that case as to what is recommended. Trying to decide if this perinneal massage business worth trying?

Nct teacher had us in stitches (lol) last night when discussing sweeps, as a doula she'd tried to do a sweep on herself with baby no 2 but 'short arms and short fingers scuppered all her attempts' - she backed it up with - 'and why not, its mine afterall, better I do it than some doctor!'

Thanks nutella, I've spent 6 months beating myself up for letting down the school in run up to ofsted (ive quite an intricate role in.the place) and those 2 particular children so its nice to hear. I share the badge with my amazing collegue and friend, who took up the baton with that class in June/july after a miserable time with a supply (who had all the courses / qualifications on paper but not the aptitude on the ground often the way ;) ) and continued and built on all the strategies :) . Apparently a particular child has come on so well that he actually swore the other day (barely used to talk) and then trotted out a full sentence apology! v impressed, he wasn't 'commenting' when I had him Grin

Cookiesandcream06 · 19/10/2012 18:33

Ah spotty I'm 32 weeks now, I am feeling pretty mahooosive tbh. If I had an office job I enjoyed I would have stuck it out for longer.

Yeh I did I went into labour 38+4 and denied it to myself all day long as I didn't want to make a fuss over nothing!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/10/2012 18:42

I have an office job and could physically manage a good few weeks more I reckon, I just can't be bothered Grin I only do two days and on a Friday evening I'm exhausted. Also I want to be able to get al excited over Christmas!

That must have been a shock as everyone assumes first baby's are always late!

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 19/10/2012 18:43

34 today and going to 38 - but my job involves sitting on my arse chatting to teenagers and drinking tea for 4 hours a week. It's hardly demanding would have been off with something by now if still working in care

WeeJo08 · 19/10/2012 18:57

I agree with the whole maternity leave competition - I also feel that although I would like to finish a little earlier I would receive negative comments as I work in an office of men (am engineer) and have already had some quite frankly appallingly un-PC comments! I'm finishing at 37 weeks and have one week of annual leave, then maternity leave starts at 38 weeks. Conversely I have had comments from ladies of my Mum's generation who think I am mad for continuing to 37 weeks and think it is far too late! Can't win! (though it feels nicer when someone comments in that way, I admit!)

Clarella Well done on the ofsted comments! My Mum was a teacher, then principal in special education for 38 years and the inspections never got any easier or less stressful in all that time!

Honey How are things today?
