Picklep thanks for that link! It lead me to this which is equally humorous!! pippaandpolly.wordpress.com/2011/11/27/things-they-dont-tell-you-before-or-during-a-pregnancy/

peardrop2 · 09/10/2012 15:04

MooL I'm super Envy as I'm dying to tell my friends Grin

Lauzifer · 09/10/2012 15:45

Can I join in? I went for a dating scan yesterday and found out I'm due dc2 on may 16th. I originally thought I was due in April but I'm not as far along as I predicted. The pregnancy was a very nice surprise after trying for 9 months. My dd will be 2.2 when I'm due so I'm looking forward to a chaotic house.

milkandribena · 09/10/2012 17:32

hello and welcome lauzifer :)

ummm scotch pancakes. Yummy. damn you picklep

little good point about birth. Love the video idea.
I didn't know about the 1 year thing.
We were thinking that he would come down for for the first week and maybe his 2nd off and stay with me and DC. And after that I think I would feel a bit mean not giving him any overnights at all. Might have to re-visit it once I can express and maybe DC isn't a newborn. (plus that would mean he wouldn't do any nights which just isn't fair)

I get the feminist thing I do (if i ever get married my name isn't changing at all) and I guess I might feel different if it was a 'normal' surname.

We are both Irish and he has a very irishy surname that isn't that common. which might sway it as DC will be born in the south of England. Except I'm irish-german and have a German surname which is more pronounceable and don't know if both being Irish we should make a thing (via name) of the german bit (esp as i'm bilingual) - errr so complex.

seven77 · 09/10/2012 17:37

Welcome lauzifer, pop yourself on the stats thread.

mooLL DD went in her own room at 6 weeks, and we all slept better. I did express until 5 weeks with DD, but even when DH was getting up to feed her I was still having to get up to express to keep up my supply. With 3 hourly feeds and 3 hourly expressing I never had a minute to myself let alone time for poor DS.

milk if you're not sure about him being there he could always drive over and get a room at a hotel near the hospital when you go into labour, that was he can always come and see the baby as soon as its born.

I've walked 2.5 miles this afternoon and I'm ravenous! I have my appointment with my GP tomorrow so looking forward to it being more real!

beaver33 · 09/10/2012 17:57

aaargh, pickle, why'd you have to mention the pancakes....??? Damn it woman I'm going to have to MAKE some cos I'm too tired to leg it to the shops [grabs whisk, raids fridge].

Interesting co-sleeping chat. I haven't given it a second thought, tbh. I was sort of assuming I'd pop cherub in its cot and climb into bed with DH - so suppose that's what I'll do.

Bit complicated because DH has professional exams in June - v bad timing on our part - so he'll need lots of sleep Hmm.

But I'm a bit in denial about everything really. At the booking appointment yesterday, midwife was like, 'Soooo, have you thought about where you'd like to give birth?'

I practically spat out my excess phlegm (thanks for the Guardian link!) and told her I wasn't going to be giving birth AT ALL thanks very much.

And then I realised I probably would, so I should give it some thought.... Blush. I have The Fear.

Went to Sainsbury's today and bought the following:

One large bar Galaxy chocolate
One litre bottle chocolate milkshake
One large packet Crunchy Nut cornflakes (blaming all of you lot)
One bottle Innocent smoothie
one bag of kiwis (a guilty afterthought)

Now. What do I need to make pancakes....?

BeauticianNotMagician · 09/10/2012 18:10

Im having a bacon sandwich for my tea with sticky toffee pudding for dessert.I didnt put on too much weight with my boys probably due to being sick so much. However, this time i am afraid i will be huge as i have sweet cravings and so far no sickness.

LittleB I have a German surname. My Grandad was German and my Grandma Irish.DP actually wants to take my name as well when we get married so we will all be double barrelled. My surname is only four letters.

BeauticianNotMagician · 09/10/2012 18:13

Sorry meant milk not little.
Pregnancy brain today.

LittlePickleHead · 09/10/2012 18:15

I was totally an accidental colewort last time - I think it easily happens if you are bf. there were numerous occasions where I would try to feed sitting up in bed and then wake up and hour later still holding the baby. Was very scary actually and I soon decided it would be easier to brig baby in bed at first middle of the night feed and do it lying down. I just want to do it all a bit more formally this time, hence the bedside cot. I also had a tough time breast feeding last time (baby don't latch in until 6 weeks, so had to mix feed an express like buggery before that). I'm hoping a bit of a breastfeeding baby moon after birth will help it all come a bit more easily this time.

Told my colleague at work today as planning on telling my bosses tomorrow (I'd rather they know so I can easily take the morning off for the scan). Turns out they all suspect anyway and have been talking about it - makes me feel a bit funny!

BeauticianNotMagician · 09/10/2012 18:16

Also has anyone actually had the flu jab yet.I know it was discussed up thread and a few were waiting.I've got mine booked in for this Saturday.

I am a very happy bunny having just scoffed six hash browns for me tea :) Have been dying for hash browns for weeks and just brushing it off, but feel much better! :) Have only been grazing today and walked 4 miles to and from childminders so... no. six hash browns can't be justified

Arf i am a feminist and changed my name when i got married Grin I wanted to 'belong' to my new family and to me the same name indicated a certain kind of cohesion and permanence. As a child of divorced parents with half- and step-siblings I had quite a fractured childhood never really belonging to anyone, and the name I had/didn't have reflected this. So I wanted to have my own family, all with the same names. Very personal and about a sense of belonging, not gender politics. It did take us 12 years and a toddler to decide to do the deed though, then we eloped to York for a quickie wedding before our holiday last year :)

I LOVE your shopping list beaver!

welcome lauzifer. Did you have your dates out by two weeks then?!!

wilderumpus · 09/10/2012 18:20

beaut you have just made me realise I haven't touched bacon since i got pg! how funny.

I have bought apple crumble and custard for later! Is it british bake off tonight, bloody LOVE that programme since i got pg. is all gentle and yummy (and i can't bake so very vicarious pleasure).

beaut I had the flu jab with DS and will again if offered. and the Whooping cough one.

BeauticianNotMagician · 09/10/2012 18:24

Wilde I hadn't eaten it either then got a sudden craving for bacon sandwiches with lots of tomato ketchup.

I was in the doctors for my back today so thought i would ask about flu jab. They have a clinic running Saturday so i booked.I have never had it before and get flu every year so thought why not.I will be having the whooping cough one as well apparently you have that one at around 28 weeks.

Picklep · 09/10/2012 18:26

Sorry about the pancakes ladies...they are my new comfort food! beaver my shopping looked exactly like that today! I'm impressed that you're making them, make a large batch of mixture and keep in fridge for moments of need. It's just milk, egg and flour isn't it???

RTchoke · 09/10/2012 18:31

Mmm hash browns (I've never had them at home before (v much a work canteen breakfast pleasure) but now I realise that is what I must have for dinner. With ketchup. And maybe a scrambled egg. And bacon. Such a relief not to be feeling like I did last night.

beaver33 · 09/10/2012 18:35

wilde that's a beautiful romance! absolutely love it. We got married after 12 years too and I think there's something so special about that. I wept throughout the service.

pickle they're browning as I type. You sieve 100g plain/self raising flour with 50g caster sugar into a bowl, whisk in an egg and then add milk until it's the consistency of double cream.

Then fry up in a thick-bottomed pan. They're ready to flip when you see bubbles forming on the top.

Yum.

wilderumpus · 09/10/2012 18:46

beaver it would have been a very romantic ceremony if DS (then 1.9) wasn't completely overtired and hyper and shouting 'no' a lot through it and tugging on my arm Grin we all got the giggles. And the lady doing the ceermony got the words wrong. it was a very typically 'us' type of do all to cock!

sooooo how do you make yorkshires please? Mine never rise. ever. really want to make toad in the hole tomorrow!

pancakes do sound yum...

LittlePickleHead · 09/10/2012 18:46

God sorry for typos in last message, makes no sense at all! Blimmin iPhone.

When I make scotch pancakes I do the eggs/flour/milk/butter mixture but I don't add sugar, I add a bit of baking soda. The mixture is the consistency of double cream. Fry one side til the bubbles rise then flip over. They are delish when cooled with butter and marmite!

LittlePickleHead · 09/10/2012 18:48

Wilde - my mum makes excellent Yorkies and says the knack is to get the oil the right temperature - it has to be really hot (veg or sunflower oil, or dripping. Olive oil won't work)

cuppateaandagingersnap · 09/10/2012 18:52

Pancakes mmmmm, think I may be about to try to whip some up too Smile

beaut I've had my flu jab already and was fine.

Hi lauzifer welcome to the thread

beaver33 · 09/10/2012 20:31

uh oh - turns out baby doesn't like pancakes [hugs toilet]

is it normal for morning sickness to get worse close to 10 weeks??

MaybeAMayBaby · 09/10/2012 20:40

Hey ladies.

Interesting to hear all your views on cosleeping. RT-that's exactly what we did last time. Once I had BF established (bit longer than two weeks mind) I expressed for a bottle to give her in middle of night. I had to. She was spending hours feeding at night and downed a bottle in about 15 mins. No contest really. But we were lucky. She slept through really early and has been a brilliant sleeper ever since. My only issue with cosleeping (not safety issues at all) is getting the little one to sleep in their own cot/bed after! I won't let her in our bed even now!

Had a surprise scan today! Went in for clinic appt and the dr said he'd try and get them to fit me in. And they did! My heart was in my mouth because it seemed to take him (!) to find anything. And then even longer to find a heartbeat. Apparently it was because I had an empty bladder (I had just done a sample). Such relief! Feeling much more relaxed. And thankfully only 1!

CheerfulYank · 09/10/2012 20:40

Mmm...now I want blueberry pancakes. I might make some, it would be nice for the baby to get a little fruit!

The spotting has gone so that's good! Just feeling general nausea ALL THE TIME. Beaver I didn't have any for about 6-7 weeks and it is getting worse all the time!

kittykatskumkwat · 09/10/2012 20:46

Wilde, yorkshires are my speciality, 3eggs, 280ml of milk, 115g plain flour, pinch of salt, wisk and rest or keep whisking until smooth, oven on its hottest setting around 210 atleast 5ml of oil ( vegetable or sunflower) in tin and wait til hot hot hot so 10 mins ish then add mixture shut oven and do not open it for atleast 25 mins, it's the cool air that causes them to deflait! Wink
I had an early scan today, 6wks ish (6+4) to me and saw little hb Grin really hope this little one sticks
On co sleeping etc I had kicked dd out at 6 wks too Blush too noisy but we both slept better because of it she was a 12-14 hrs girl from 10 wks!! I breast fed too so don't let anyone tell you they don't sleep as well, it has no relevance, I also found that my boobs adapted to what was needed I.e when she slept through the night and I wasn't using then for 10hrs+ although the first few nights were uncomfortable they got used to not being needed then and still had plenty for the day feeds

Picklep · 09/10/2012 20:46

Oh no Beaver.....feel better soon!
