wild thanks I do like hearing from people who have been through the same as what I am experiencing. I hope you're not having a baby owl...although the nickname is cute Grin

My mum told me this week-end that if I'm craving what DH likes food wise then I'm having a boy...I wonder if there is any truth in that!

beaver33 · 08/10/2012 14:19

10 and wilde am exactly the same re junk. I'm a veggie and normally eat ludicrously healthily. Was doing SO well at the start and was thinking, 'This eating well during pregnancy thing is a doddle,' and THEN the nausea started.

A leaf of spinach is the devil. But a cheese Chicago Town pizza? Mmmmm, mmmm - heaven. Making lentil soup today in a bid to compensate for naughty mummy.

P.S. anyone else having weird chats with MIL? She texted me today to wish me luck on the booking in appt, which was sweet, and signed off by saying she hopes 'Rocky or Ruby' are doing ok....told DH and he said: 'Yeah, she's given it a name.'

That's weird, no? I mean, does she like those names or what?

I haven't even given it a name. DH calls it 'the little poo' Blush

wilderumpus · 08/10/2012 14:52

wtf beaver?! rocky or ruby?! omg Grin

we haven't told MIL or any family but generally she doesn't say much!

and today I am feeling really peaky and not keen on anything really... until I thought of maccy dees and thought OH! Yes! i couldn't definitely eat a lot of that Hmm selective nausea?!

peardrop2 · 08/10/2012 15:19

Yum to Chicago pizza!!! I have never had one but it sounds yummy!

LittleBairn · 08/10/2012 15:26

wild blankets always a good idea. Honestly their fingers will be fine plus babies like texture. I'm thinking I will do a really simple garter stitch blanket for the baby that should be a quick knit. I'm also thinking of doing a colourful (with Noro) floor rug for once it's old enough to play on the floor with toys.

Clothes wise May can still be a bit chilly in Scotland and well so can summer. Grin I'm doing some vests to go over sleepsuits plus Some light cardies.

I'm also going to knit a few things for when the baby is older and I won't have time like bigger sizes for the winter wooly hats and warm trousers.

If tragedy struck I would still use them all for future children.

Regarding dating scans, I know when I ovulate ( watching body for signs plus testing) and my cycle is pretty regular and I'm pretty certain of my due date they can put what they like on file but I will be going with my own date.

Beaver I was mostly Vegan. I ate so very well and healthy but even before I got a BFP I started eating meat, then eggs and then (lactol)milk!
Now MS has hit I seem to have gone off all of it again but eating a little processed meat if it's in something I'm eating.
I'm just accepting what my body needs/wants for now. But I would like to be back to at least vegetarianism once baby is born.
I'm just flicking through Veganomicon at the moment seeing if inspiration will hit..althought I'm now tempted my a Chicago town pizza.

Your MIL sounds like she might trying to put a her 'stamp' on the baby, taking a bit of control.

rachywhite83 · 08/10/2012 17:36

Feeling fat today ! Had to put an elastic band on the button of my trousers !

beaver that is definitely odd of your MIL.

Has anyone else still not told anyone yet?

I don't start knitting until after the 12 week scan, anyway I'm trying to frantically knit all of the things on my to-knit list first! I've got 2 cardigans and a hat for DD and a jumper for DS to knit first.

CheerfulYank · 08/10/2012 18:10

I had some spotting today...brownish stuff. I know it is normal, especially if you've had sex the day before. But it is still making me nervous. :(

seven77 · 08/10/2012 18:20

cheerful I know saying don't worry is easier said than done, but remember brown means its old blood and less likely to be anything serious. I'd advise just take it easy if possible, and ring your MW if it gets heavier, redder or is just still present in a couple of days.

booboomonster · 08/10/2012 18:22

Hello everyone!

It's probably too late but wanted to say really sorry to hear your news five, hope you are ok, and lots of luck with everything.

Beaver 'the little poo' made me chuckle. I hope that nickname doesn't stick after birth!!

I am with you all about eating junk. It's a bit depressing, as I too normally eat pretty healthily and love my vegetables. I can still stomach fruit, so I'm eating normal amount of that but I normally eat a lot and I can't really eat more. I am eating so much crappy white carbs it's untrue. I don't normally consume much bread but it has become my constant companion. urgh! I have decided to go with the flow for the first 12 weeks and hope to God that the MS calms down after that and I can get a bit healthier.

Seven we've only told my Mum, who, amazingly, has not told anyone else. After MC in March we've been a bit more cautious this time. I am itching to tell people though, I keep getting invited out for a drink and have been stalling... it's getting embarrassing.

I can't knit, but love home knitted things. I don't really worry about tempting fate either little, sounds like you are going to be busy! My mum will do some stuff for me I think. She did a lovely crochet blanket last time wild and it was great for early summer (DD2 was born in early June), and fingers didn't get caught in it.

seven77 · 08/10/2012 18:23

And I had brown spotting after sex when pregnant with DS and all was fine. When I MC'd it started with spotting after sex but the blood was bright red and just got steadily heavier.

booboomonster · 08/10/2012 18:23

sorry crossed posts cheerful but I second what seven says - have you been doing a lot? Try and take it easy. It is so nerve wracking at this stage though isn't it?

cuppateaandagingersnap · 08/10/2012 18:28

Brill to hear about other knitters, I'm desperate to finish off the aran cardigan I started for my nephew before I got my BFP so I can start knitting for little Oswald (bump to be's name ;-) ). Need to get motivated again, I've been spending most of my time looking up pregnancy and baby stuff on my iPad so the knitting has got sidelined. Definitely going to find out the sex so I can knit some little girl/boy newborn size pieces.

Beaver maybe Rocky/Ruby is just her nickname for the bump and she's getting carried away with the excitement but I would have thought she would let you choose your own bump name in your own time!

Anyone else nicknamed their bump to be's yet?

Vickles · 08/10/2012 18:31

Pour nickname is quaver, as that's what he or she looked like in the 8 week scan!

cuppa I'm the same with my iPad. What I've done is take screen captures of internet pages of stuff that I want to buy or read or think about and then made them into a folder in photos.
In notes I've got lists of all sorts of baby related things.
In iBooks I've got loads if knitting PDFs in their own section.
Use the pintrest app to store lots of baby ideas too.
And I've downloaded some pregnacy yoga podcast videos for later.

LittlePickleHead · 08/10/2012 19:30

Hi all - been away for a few days and missed so much! Need to set aside a few hours to catch up.

I finally had my first midwife appointment today, it was good to feel like something is happening aand it's all a bit more 'official'. Also set the ball rolling with requesting a elcs. Iwill arrange a meeting with a consultant midwife to go through my notes from my last pregnancy. I feel very trepidacious about it all as I've had a head in the sand approach to what happened and how I feel about it. Felt very teary when I left but I am glad I will at least get to discuss it/ Have no idea how hard it's going to be, but who knows, maybe I'll start to feel better about a natural labour after the discussion.

Anyway, I stumbled across this article whilst googling - it's summed up my experience of the first trimester so far! www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/jan/23/pregnancy-first-trimester-symptoms

10+2 (according to midwife, 10+5 according to me!)

RTchoke · 08/10/2012 19:33

This morning I stupidly worried about lack is sickness. Tonight I feel worse than ever. Serves me right.

I wish I could knit. I got half way through a scarf in my first pregnancy, then abandoned it under the bed. Three years later the remnants were identified as the breeding ground for a moth infestation. That was the end of my knitting career. My creative outlet is cake decoration and photography.

We don't have a nickname for the baby. I feel bad as we had loads for DCs 1&2. DD1 wants a brother called Wilfred so maybe that can be it's in utero name.

I hope the spotting has settled Cheerful.

Off to find the stats thread.

Picklep · 08/10/2012 19:41

So I know that we shouldn't have more than 4 tins of tuna a week (140g tins), my question is this, I had one tin at lunch and I'd like another for dinner (I don't know why, but I have to have tuna today, yesterday it was jelly babies)....is that OK to have half of my weekly allowance in one go? or am I concentrating the risk? Honestly I am so confused by all these 'can't haves' in our diet!

Beaver Rocky????? or Ruby????? very strange, very strange. My MIL's reaction to my home birth choice has put me off sharing the rest of this pregnancy with her. Suppose I should get used to people offering their opinions but I am tempted to get a t-shirt printed that says 'no, I don't need your opinion on my pregnancy'.

RTchoke · 08/10/2012 19:51

I'm obsessed with tuna too PuckleP. It's one of the only cravings I have (if you don't count Crunchy Nut Cornflakes which I now eat for most meals). I think you would be fine to concentrate your tuna consumption into one day.

wilderumpus · 08/10/2012 19:57

JELLY BABIES! needsomewantsome :)

sure you'll be just fine pickle! enjoy! arf my MIL thought we were determined to kill unborn DS with our HB and talk of breastfeeding and cosleeping Grin she did have the stairgates and fireguard up in her house (we live 7 hours away) by the time he was 6 mths tho. Just in case Hmm

no nickname here! bumpy really! like thinking about real names instead this time around, whereas DS had a firm nickname that he is still called!

little how are you making a rug, may I ask? Is it a rag rug?

I love crochet, crap at knitting as don't like counting stitches... but am working evenings and weekends atm finishing uni. In jan I will be completely committed! can't wait to make a wee blnaket for bubs to throw up on Grin

LittlePickleHead · 08/10/2012 20:02

Yes I've had the tuna craving too, it seems to be the only sandwich I can stomach at lunch. Tuna and sweetcorn on white bread with cheese and onion crisps today. Yum!

Picklep · 08/10/2012 20:11

RTchoke me too with Crunchy Nut! I am existing on bowls of crunchy nut, jelly babies, tuna, cheese and marmite toasties! Oh and Twiglets and cucumber.

Thanks ladies , tucking into more tuna now!
