Do you have to be a certain number of weeks before you can get it?

No, it's safe at any stage of pregnancy although I can understand why people want to wait until after 12 weeks but again risk of mc if u did get flu in that time would be very high. At the end of the day you just have to be comfortable with your decision.

cuppateaandagingersnap · 06/10/2012 11:45

Not sure if this was meant for sharing but this is an excerpt from the email we got regarding protocol for vaccinating pregnant women:

Pregnant women
As you will also be aware, pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy) are one of the higher clinical risk groups recommended to receive flu vaccination.

As last year, the community midwives will provide a list of all pregnant women on their caseload for the GP practices by the end of September in order that women can then be invited by the practice to attend for vaccination along with all other high-risk groups of patients.
Midwives will discuss vaccination with the women so when they attend the practice for vaccination they will already have had an opportunity to explore any concerns about flu vaccination.

As the season progresses, midwives will send newly pregnant women a leaflet and letter from the Head of Midwifery and the Clinical Director of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology advising them that they should receive flu vaccination and to discuss any concerns with their midwife before going to the practice for vaccination. I have attached a copy of this letter for your information. Newly pregnant women will be counselled by their midwife and advised to contact their GP practice to arrange vaccination. The midwives will document in the women?s the hand-held records that they have been advised to receive vaccination. A note that a woman has received flu vaccination at their GP practice must be documented in their hand-held records by practice staff.

Midwives will opportunistically vaccinate pregnant women who:
? are hospitalised for long term ante natal care
? attend specialist clinics at AMH, e.g. twin clinic, diabetic clinic etc
? are substance misusers
GP?s will be notified, in writing, the same day that a woman receives flu immunisation in this way.

Postnatal women will not be offered immunisation.

Duration of the flu vaccination season
Vaccination should continue to be offered to all women who become newly pregnant (and to others in high-risk groups) throughout the flu season until the 31st March 2013. There is no expectation that anyone will receive flu vaccination beyond this date.

Hi everyone, please can I join you all? I will be 9 weeks tomorrow, had a reassurance scan last Mon which set my mind a little at rest because I've had some spotting. Next scan is 25th so next countdown is on!
Re symptoms etc: an constantly knackered and no energy, seem to feel nauseous in evenings and if I haven't eaten or have eaten too much Confused although haven't been sick. Also, feel light headed of I stand too quickly! And constantly needing the loo!! All very reassuring really.
I have tried to read the whole thread this morning but only got up to last weekend.

Hi ladies I keep gettin a weird pain rite at the top of my stomach just under my ribs its like a stich pain & comes n goes ..... Any ideas its not painfull as such just more annoying xx

Bunnychan · 06/10/2012 15:50

shelly I have the same EDD as you and I get on/off niggles, twinges and sensations too. Sometimes it feels like cramp, sometimes like nerve pain, sometimes like stitch and sometimes indescribable lol. Mine never hurt so I try not to worry, things are changing! X

cuppateaandagingersnap · 06/10/2012 16:03

Just back from my scan and all good, revised my date to the 24th May, so a couple of days back but will wait and see if things change again at the 12 week scan but will go with the new date for now.
So exciting to see my little bean and its little fluttering heart on the screenGrin

7+1

Bunnychan · 06/10/2012 16:26

Picklep · 06/10/2012 16:56

I feel terrible!! It's DHs birthday tomorrow and a fancy restaurant, DHs favourite, we had invited his parents and we were going to tell them our news. DH so looking forward to it but I've had to cancel because i just don't think i can stomach it. It's a seafood place and it has a unique toilet situation, in that it's a long and obstacle-filled route to it! If I needed to be ill, it'd be highly unlikey i'd make it in time! There's just no telling what will upset my stomach at moment, it changes by the minute.
We've decided to get a takeaway but I do feel a bit bad to spoil the plans, DH says he'd prefer takeaway anyway (such a sweetie!) and I'm sure the inlaws will be so overjoyed they'll eat anything!

Hope you're all having a lovely Saturday night :-)

Picklep · 06/10/2012 16:56

Congrats Cuppa!! And welcome Ellie !!

Picklep · 06/10/2012 16:59

First post made little sense, I'd booked a fancy restaurant for tonight, that was supposed to say!! God, pregnancy brain!!!

Vickles · 06/10/2012 17:08

Had an early scan today, and all went fine. Just the one nice, strong heartbeat!!! Phew!

FiveandtheBonusBall · 06/10/2012 17:12

Hi guys Smile. Not sure if you remember me as it's been a few weeks since I posted. Just wondered if someone could remove me from the list please? Had a scan this morning at 8 weeks which revealed an empty pregnancy sack measuring around 6 weeks. I'm ok as had had spotting and was fearing the worst, but obviously still quite a shock when you see it for yourself. So wishing you all a wonderful 9 months and very boring and uneventful pregnancies (in the best way of course!). Much love xxx

Vickles · 06/10/2012 18:12

So very sorry Five. Sad

I'm rely sorry to hear that five, I had the exact same 2 months ago, 8 week scan showing baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks. I was heartbroken. Take some time for yourself, I hope you've got support around you. The ladies on the mc threads are lovely and very supportive xxx

FiveandtheBonusBall · 06/10/2012 18:40

Thanks everyone. Panda, hope you don't mind me asking but how was your mc managed? (ie. did you let things progress naturally or have an erpc?) Am going to post on the mc board (hardly the place here Blush) but as you mentioned you had been through the same thing didn't think you'd mind me asking.

wilderumpus · 06/10/2012 18:42

oh five! I have been thinking of you, was actually going to ask after you today funnily enough. Am so so sorry to hear your news. I had an empty sac too, is incredibly sad. I hope you are ok and being looked after by your family. Take care x

PedanticPanda · 06/10/2012 18:44

I had bleeding before the mc which was why I had the scan at 8 weeks, there was a heartbeat at the scan and everything looked normal except that my dates put me at 8 weeks not 6 which was what it was measuring, we'd been ttc and so knew when I'd dtd and knew my dates were correct, so obviously I thought something was wrong then. The next day I mc myself naturally.

What method did the nurse suggest?

FiveandtheBonusBall · 06/10/2012 19:02

Hello again Smile It was a private clinic I went to, so just a sonographer and receptionist. Sonographer didn't really give any options, other than what I already knew (from experience sadly). I have started bleeding (albeit very very light) so I think I'll wait a week and then if nothing more happens go to gp for a epu referral and take it from there.
wild, thanks for thinking of me! You know I never did tell dh (I was waiting on the 8 week scan) which in a way makes things harder, but oddly in another I'm happy to manage on my own as he is finding things so hard with his mum at the moment who has Altzeimers and is very poorly, and I know this would tip him over the edge. Anyway, I'm sure I'll get through it (have a good friend at work who I can offload to) and who knows, I may make it back onto these boards one day!.

LittleBairn · 06/10/2012 19:48

five I've been wondering about you, I'm so sad to hear your news. You were very kind to me when I was spotting, it really meant a lot to me, thank you.
