Another one here who loved BFing, fed DS until he lost interest at about 14/15 months. And really soooo convenient. I did have trouble getting DS to start in the first few days, he kept falling asleep, but after about 3 days was fine. And used Lansinoh for first couple of weeks, until my nips just seemed to get used to it, there were no probs at all after that. And I didn't need breast pads really, had the occasional leaking moment, but mostly in night when DS was starting to sleep for longer. Anyway, it's just lovely doing it, and gives you opp to just sit and cuddle and watch TV !

I also had a disturbed night. DS woke at 5am this morning 'I want my daddy!' Luckily DH is v good at going to him in the mornings. But I got a bit stressed with him, I told him not to engage DS in conversation, just sit there and tell him to go back to sleep. Within minutes, he was up out of the cot, and screaming to go downstairs. Just leave him in the cot FGS!! Otherwise he thinks it's time to get up. Eventually DH took him downstairs, when I came down at 7.15 (bearing in mind we need to be out the door by 8.30), DH had given DS brekkie, but hadn't had any himself. Or changed DS's nappy. So then obviously DS wants more breakfast with daddy. So I'm saying hurry up, eat up, get dressed, brush teeth, and feel like I'm rushing them, but really, thanks for getting up so early, but we also have to get out the house, and you've had 2 hours with him, and not done anything! Argh. Feel all unreasonable now, but was really peed off at the time.

Anyway, we had our scan this morning, happily placenta has moved up and out of way, and baby growth is all fine. It's still a boy! So I'm now happy and hope the rest of my pregnancy and birth will be all lovely, relaxed and normal...!!

YW, glad you like the Gap babygro, I was quite tempted myself!

ShellyBobbs · 03/10/2012 13:40

Sorry to hear things are so bad Izzy How long do you have now until your due date?

YellowWellies · 03/10/2012 13:50

I got Boots maternity mattress pads for our bed - a pack of 8 (not sure if you're meant to use them all at once!) only £6 for the pack - I was tempted by a shower curtain from Tesco but figured the plastic crinkling noise would piss me off. No pun intended.

MissMummy1 · 03/10/2012 13:55

Hope it eases soon izzy. There was a woman at my yoga class who was really struggling with similar symptoms to you. Apparently as soon as baby's head engaged the pain disappeared.

I watched that bf programme a few months ago and it made me really angry. I am desperate to give it my best try. I'm impossibly stubborn but just felt that programme would put soo many people off. Angry

Forgot to ask yesterday, I was told at my mw appointment that I will probably need a scan at 37 weeks to determine junior's position. 3 midwives have tried and failed to feel how they're lying because my stomach muscles are too strong. I've also been told I'm at risk of them tearing. Does anyone else have any experience of this??

horseylady · 03/10/2012 14:00

Mm I have been told I'm at risk of tearing and to clearly state in my birth plan (should I bother to write one!!) that I am a horse rider and that I undertake a reasonable amount if exercise. That way they may cut if deemed necessary but I have been massaging every other day!! No problem feeling the baby now as he's so far forward even I can tell what's what whenever I touch my belly (poor muscles).

Waiting to go in.... Apparently having more blood tests today!!

horseylady · 03/10/2012 14:02

Oh I should tell the mw whatever way when I'm in labour about the high tearing risk!!

Apparently good muscles will either work for or against you. Hope that helps!!

ValiumQueen · 03/10/2012 14:02

Oh izzy I so feel for you. I was like that with DD2. Feel positively fab this time compared to last time. I was thankfully booked in for a section at 39 weeks, so had a clear date to work to. The worst bit for me was DD. I hated not being able to care for her how I wanted to. I was cooking a sibling for her, but felt she was missing out because I was so unwell. How many weeks are you? I am counting down the sleeps as I am beginning to feel as rough as a badgers arse, but nothing compared to last time thank God. I was convinced I would have no more after that, and it was in a hope to avoid that happening again that made me finish work at the earliest opportunity. It has paid off thankfully

22sleeps!

ValiumQueen · 03/10/2012 14:05

I don't think my tummy has any muscles.

YellowWellies · 03/10/2012 14:07

MM do you mean tear vaginally or tear your stomach muscles, if the latter - speak to my sister she had that with Jacob and it was really rather painful when it happened. She was still cycling 14 miles a day to work at 7 months preggo so had similarly tough stomach muscles. I think she had to wear a belly band later in pregnancy when they tore and she developed a numb spot where the two ends of the muscle no longer met (about where her belly button was)? I might be imagining these details but ask her next time you speak to her. It didn't stop her coping with labour at all so don't worry about that I think it just made the last few weeks even less comfortable :( xx

YellowWellies · 03/10/2012 14:08

22 sleeps VQ omigod!!!!

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 03/10/2012 14:10

I have 6 weeks til due date :( it feels like a lifetime away!

Evilwater · 03/10/2012 14:16

Wow this thread moves fast. Thanks for the good wishes everyone, and congratulations garden on your girls! I'm so glad things are going well for you all.

I am cross-eyed with tiredness after getting up for DD in the night. I pumped an enormous quantity of milk at 4am but forgot to put it in the fridge - found it this morning and had to chuck it. DH persuaded me to go back to bed after the whooping cough jabs and nipped back at lunchtime to drop me at the hospital to save me having to waste time with buses. My snooze meant missing a cuddle with one of the boys but has slightly restored my equilibrium.

I'm sure I've spotted loads of questions about hospital bags etc while I've een skimming this thread that I'm probably in a good position to answer, having gone through it recently. I can't keep up with this thread but if anyone has any qs about pumping, maternity pads or whatever then feel free to PM me and I'll try to get back to you soon.

ValiumQueen · 03/10/2012 14:21

Muscles can split in the tum.

izzy 6 weeks. Hmm. Not nice. At least you are at the optimum point to receive the WC vaccine? (clutches at straws). Every day baby is in, they are getting bigger and stronger. Your DD will survive this, and she will so benefit from having a sibling ( in a while anyway) and it will all be worth it. Make use of all help available. Do not try to be everything to everyone. You are making a life. Do not under estimate what a valuable job you are doing. From 37 weeks get nipple tweaking, shagging if up to it, raspberry leaf tea, hand expressing, curries. May not help, but may help pass the time.

MissMummy1 · 03/10/2012 14:22

Tear my stomach muscles Sad. Will have a chat with Maria next time I see her. I have been wearing a bump support band more recently. Unlike your sister, I'm not cycling at 7 months pregnant weekly tesco shops are the most exercise I get atm Blush. I was just 'too fit' before I got pregnant. As long as I can get some of it back afterwards!!

thereistheball · 03/10/2012 14:23

Evil - ouch. Hope the GP can help.

ValiumQueen · 03/10/2012 14:26

Thereis I think you have enough on your plate without fielding our questions my dear Thanks. I bet you were pissed off about the milk. Spilt milk is awful, but spilt breast milk is the worst as you work so hard for it!

evil it could be that baby's head is engaging, and sheer pressure on everything. Best get it checked though in case you have a UTI. Hope it eases a bit for you

StuntNun · 03/10/2012 14:28

VQ that's a shame about the antibodies not being passed across in the breastmilk. To be honest I don't understand why not, if other antibodies can pass into the breastmilk then I would have thought the much higher quantities being produced by the vaccination would be even more likely to. I wonder if it's something to do with the type of antibodies being produced, would they be IgG rather than IgM? It's too long since university, I can't remember my immunology.

I found I didn't need breast pads after the first few weeks. And I didn't produce any milk during DTD so daddy got to play with the empties!

It's great to see so many good bfing experiences on here. I'm very pro-breastfeeding but I do think it's every woman's right to decide whether to breast or bottle feed so I don't think anyone should feel pressurised to breastfeed. Hopefully we can all encourage each other, whatever decisions we make for our babies.

Does anyone know if you can only get the flu jab from your own GP practice?
It's just that we have two surgeries in our village so I wondered if it was worth trying the other one to see if I can get it earlier than early November but don't know if I'll be aloud

Evilwater · 03/10/2012 14:33

VQ - thanks, i have for the past four days had lower back pain from about now till well into the night. i had to take parasetamol last night to get any form of sleep.
i saw my friend yesterday, and she said i had not long to go. 17 sleeps for me.

evil

Sophiathesnowfairy · 03/10/2012 14:43

Oo that sounds evil evil, let us know now you get on at the GP. I'm resisting touching anything down there now ask know it has all gone wrong.

Has anyone been able to locate any reasonably priced nursing vest tops to pop under regular tops. The cheapest I can find are around the £15 mark, which I feel, rightly or wrongly, is a bit steep for a vest.

ValiumQueen · 03/10/2012 14:49

fatima our local supermarkets and chemists will give it for about £8, so you can get it elsewhere. I got mine from Occ Health three years ago. I would try to get your own GP to give it earlier personally.

stunt different type of antibody apparently. Too complex for me. You are lucky to have had empties. I never knew when mine were going to go off!

horseylady · 03/10/2012 14:51

Asda Sophia.

Evil - ouch!!!

Thereis I echo everyone else - don't worry!!

Bloods taken, vaccine booked for Monday (both!) mw much chattier today.

Mm I asked about all sorts of tearing!! She said sometimes your stomach muscles will tear, in fact they always tear, it's just the degree to which they separate. I think you're about 4 weeks behind me, so it might happen yet for both of us!! It can be painful but most of the time it's more a stretch. They should return to Normal. She also laughed about the other advice I'd been givenbut said massage it anyway!!

Still reassuringly average, she doesn't guess weights!! Bloods gone off today. Right the sun is shining I've just put the mattress in the cot I think I'll take my beast of a horse on a ride and get ready for my day off tomorrow!!

Think lots of stuff may be finding it's way onto eBay :)

horseylady · 03/10/2012 14:52

Oh why do they come up with links??!!

LittleLolly · 03/10/2012 14:53

Hope things are ok evil

sophia I have been looking at nursing vests too and can't believe the price. Even on eBay they go for around a tenner. So I have bought some stretchy, strappy vest tops from new look for a couple of pounds each, they are really low cut so stretch right down under my boobs. Hopefully they will do!
