Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all - have been too busy to post. Sorry to hear your news mama - we're all thinking of you whatever happens. Let us know.

Hope everyone else is doing well. My bump suddenly made an appearance, at 15+0 literally overnight.

15+2

somewherebecomingrain · 12/10/2012 15:21

mama so sorry to hear your news. My thoughts are with you. You have been so incredibly brave already.

jessieessex it is sort of Confused hearing about all these amazing risk results some people are getting - i don't quite know how people get such good results. your result for someone who's 35 is pretty consistent with my experience - i got 1:1600 or something when i was 36 and this time, age 40 i've got 1:1300. The best result i've ever heard anyone getting over 40 is 1:3000.

I think the people with really amazing results must be a lot younger.

if they're not i really don't know how they're getting those results!

xx

trying2bpos · 12/10/2012 15:57

Awful news mama after eveything you've been through too, know that you've been a real inspiration to us all and I'm send you big hugs and positive vibes. If you feel up to posting to let us know how you are that would be nice but we'll understand if you can't.

OP posts:
trying2bpos · 12/10/2012 16:03

somewhere I've been pondering the same thing myself and I can only think that some places might test for more things which might in turn lower the risk. For example I'm pretty certain I didn't get tested for PAPP-A which I know a lot of women on here have. Could that be it?

My risk was much higher last time when I was 2 yrs younger so I can only assume my bloods were better this time around as I think my NT was fairly consistent.

OP posts:
aufaniae · 12/10/2012 16:53

trying I didn't hear the word papp-A until there was something wrong with it. If you do the combined test, AFAIK they will have looked at Papp-A (and other hormones).

Agree those with such amazing results must be very youthful not that I'm jealous or anything Wink

aufaniae · 12/10/2012 17:57

Sorry trying I'm making assumptions there aren't I?!
Maybe what they look for does vary in different areas?

Knittingnovice · 12/10/2012 19:06

mama so sorry to hear your news.

re excersise I started running back in the summer, but when I found out I was pg I stopped, instead I am trying to walk lots, but with the bad back and it appears the onset of SPD/PGP again I am awaiting a physio referral to see what the options are.

I would love to do antenatal yoga but DH works nights and I have no babysitters on hand and classes are evening so looks like I will be finding some you tube videos, which should be OK as I do lots of yoga normally

Only 3 days until my scan, although DD has let the cat out of the bag. My CM pulled me aside yesterday and said 'are you pg? DD has told me you have a girl baby seed in your tummy' I confirmed it. DD has done remarkably well. both dc's have known since 6 weeks and told no one. How many 2y8m can keep a secret for 8 weeks!!!

kellestar · 12/10/2012 20:12

well, the scan today went really well. Little one was in the right position and scanned beautifully. Nurse got blood drawn first time. Results came back nuchal 1.7mm, 1:15131, also had edwards and pateau's done at the same time and they are also low risk. I had tons of images and a pen drive preloaded with them. Though the images are all a little blurry. DH and I felt that we got the right treatment this time. Due date confirmed as the 19th April so that makes me exactly 13 weeks today! Phew!

Plan on telling everybody tomorrow. Our families are all local so will be dashing about a bit. Have promised DH steak for tea if he plays nicely. He gets a bit fed up if the attention is on him, he likes to avoid this kind of thing.

knitting I have a good antenatal pilates DVD, I got it off eBay pilates for pregnancy for about £3 inc p&p

toobreathless · 12/10/2012 23:29

Mama words seem rather hollow, so very sorry to hear your sad news, hoping by some miracle things are ok. If not, hoping you are being well looked after & wishing you a gentle & peaceful recovery.

trying & aufanie I had very low Downs Risks (1 in 100,000) & am 28 years old. I think for the very low risks you need to be young, with a low NT & very good bloods. I suspect you can't get risks of over 1 in 4,000 or so in older ladies even if bloods & NT are both very good (am I making sense?) saying all that my Paeds friend reminded me that more banked with Down's are still born to younger women as although the risks are less younger women have more babies.

enjay0811 · 13/10/2012 01:14

Ooh Kellestar we're due date buddies! Bit confused with all the risk ratings being discussed on here tbh. I had bloods done at my first scan but no results bk yet but have to go bk at the end of the mth (at 15/16wks) for quad test. No idea if they took measurements for risk at scan or certainly didn't tell me?! Shld I be asking for this? Really don't think I'd go thru with any further tests if the risk was high anyway. I'm 31 and have 2 healthy dd's already so not expecting any worrying news iyswim?

mama really hope tht ur ok. I can't imagine what you must be going thru atm but hope u've got lots of love and support to get you thru. Thinking of you x

tattooedapril87 · 13/10/2012 06:38

so... had my scan yesterday. every one worked out my dates to be 12+4, turns out im 13+3...

with twins!!!!!

no family history so am in complete shock- and im hardly showing either which is so strange (im quite slim)! both measuring nearly same around 7cm each both with strong hb and good nt measurements !

help?!?!?! argh!!!!!

aufaniae · 13/10/2012 06:41

Wow, double congratulations tattooed!

That must have been a shock?!

Are these your first babies?

tattooedapril87 · 13/10/2012 07:42

yep my first babies! im in complete shock!
im pleased but also in panic mode a bit as in your head you have your dates, how long you'll work for, who will look after whilst working etc etc...

now im further along- they'll prob be early, i can't work as long- and there are two!! plus its such a bigger ask to get family members to look after two than one!

LikeCandy · 13/10/2012 08:07

tattooed wow!! double congratulations! statistically I think they are probably likely to be a few sets on this huge April group I was secretly hoping it might be me!!

somewhere I am 26, with a risk of 1,25:000 - I'm not sure what they statistically should be for my age, but I do wonder why it's not as 'good' as some women older than me?!

mama you are in all our thoughts, look after yourself xx

My morning sickness has returned as spontaneous sporadic sickness - instant vomiting when I eat/ drink something that baby doesn't like! It's only once/twice a day, but it's SO embarrassing. Any tips on how to stop this?!
I definitely have a bump - not sure what to do with it, nothing fits except old baggy scruffy clothes!
Have a good weekend all!

15+3

kellestar · 13/10/2012 08:19

Tattooed confratulations! Twins, wow! The chance of someone being a twinmum was quite possible. Was only 1 twinmum on the thread when I had DD a few years ago, she was on a twinmum thread as well as they were her first and she was 25ish iirc and a bit overwhelmed. Good tgat you got your dates now.

Enjay I went for a private NT and dating scan as LO was lying awkward and they couldn't confirm anything. I think the quad scan will give you similar numbers, but it just goes on four types of hormones in the blood, rather than hormones and nuchal fold. Excited about having a due date buddy. Will update stats thread when near the laptop.

edinfirst · 13/10/2012 08:41

Oh wow tattoed congrats!! (one ! for each twin!!)

EmpressMatilda · 13/10/2012 08:58

Hi all. Just got back from my belated honeymoon so not had chance to catch up with the thread yet. Just marking my place for now.

EssexWelsh · 13/10/2012 09:05

Amazing tattoed, my sister has twins, just so special! Do you know if they are identical yet?

magictorch · 13/10/2012 09:12

Wow tattooed congratulations twice over

mama thinking of you

So, I've just had a letter from the hospital saying they've mislaid my blood samples so I have to have them done again. Which means trying to get hold of elusive midwife to get another form, then the fun of trying to get a willing vein to open up. Not impressed, especially since they'd already buggered up my nuchal request so that I couldn't have it. Grrrr.

Off to get me hair done in a bit. Hope everyone has a good day.

15+1

Caladria · 13/10/2012 11:18

I got 1/15000, which was a lot lower than I thought it could go at 36. I suppose, though, that the difference between say 1/500 and 1/50000 Iis really only the difference between 'very unlikely' and 'very very unlikely'

Missmuffet28 · 13/10/2012 12:28

tattooed gratz on the twins!! How exciting! My best friend had twins for her first dc's she was absolutely bricking it and was dreading the logistics of it all but it worked out perfect like I'm sure it will for you!

Has anyone heard from mama ? I hope she's ok I have been thinking of her.

Dp and I have opened up a baby plan in mothercare eek!!! It seems very early but we aren't exactly flush for cash and with only 6 months to go thought it would be a good idea to start paying stuff off already! It worked out quite well mentioning it to my mum who was dying to buy my pushchair so that's one big expense out the way!
There was an expectant mum event on at the time it was lovely got a nice goody bag a 10% off voucher snacks and drinks, Red Cross were there doing baby first aid demos, water babies were there, that looks amazing too!
Poor dp tho think he was getting mad with my major indecisiveness! we were in there 2 hours!!!! Solely to choose a pushchair I originally wanted a silver cross, but when it was demonstrated to me it was massive folded so went against it :( (still love silver cross though) ended up with a quinny buzz with carrycot and car seat option, just hope I don't change my mind again hehe it's not being delivered till April so plenty of time to change my mind I guess!
Doing that has suddenly made it seem really real and I feel some excitement creeping in!

Have a great weekend all, looks like the rain may hold off down here so I'm spending a lot of time with the washing machine today!

toobreathless · 13/10/2012 13:38

Missmuffet we have had the Quinny Buzz since DD was born and like it so much we also now have the Zapp as our stroller. It is very reasonably priced compared to the iCandy/Bugaboo. The carrycot was brilliant, DD fitted it until 5 months & it's very generous compared to the iCandy in particular.

The only real negatives we have found are that it's not great for public transport, doesn't fit in the boot of most small cars (without taking the wheels off which takes 5 seconds) has a very small shopping basket (which you have to buy separately) & it needs you to take the weight with your tummy when folding. This makes it very difficult to fold when pregnant or after a C Section. Oh & doesn't convert to a double. Saying all that I think I'd buy another one if I had my first baby again. Ours has been all over the lake district & is a very good all rounder.

tattooed huge congratulations on your twins!

Right off swimming with DD.

MumofWombat · 13/10/2012 14:21

Hi everyone, I've not been on for ages as we've had overseas guests.

Mama, sending hugs from down under especially for you.

Tattooed, double trouble for you awesome news!

And to everyone else, it's been lovely to catch up on your news.

We had our scan, but even though we saw some great images on the screen, the ones on the disc are shockingly bad! So we were disappointed, I can't remember my odds exactly, but the consultant said thy were very good for my age (38, think it was something like 1:2200??).
We've also had our first antenatal appt, which was positive and reassuring. After looking in detail at he history of last time and speaking DSs cardiologist and geneticist, the consultant feels that my pregnancy is low risk, but the birth high risk. In the unlikely event of going into spontaneous labour around 35 weeks they would like me to try natural labour (but it would be highly monitored, with an epidural and at the slightest hint of distress I'd be whipped into the operating room) otherwise I'll be booked for a c section at 39 weeks.
The next day I got to chat to the parent education dept, they were wonderful. They feel that with the right support breast feeding will work (for many understandable reasons it was a hideous mess last time), that I can book a session to plan a successful c section and they will run a special one to on session for me as their normal vbac classes don't fit my situation.
Between the consultant and the education dept, I couldn't have felt more listened to, reassured, positive and I have come away feeling so lucky that here in the most isolated city in the world we have this level of resources! The hospital may be in an old building a bit passed its used by date with crappy parking, but the people in it certainly seem to know their stuff!
I have the twenty week scan booked for November, that will take place in the Maternity hospital as well (normally you go elsewhere and pay privately over here) so that they can call up one of the cardiologists from PMH (the children's hospital up the road where my son is cared for by the cardiology dept) to do extra tests if necessary.
Sorry for the long post.....

growyourown77 · 13/10/2012 15:03

wombat sounds like you've had amazing service from your NHS, that's fantastic! All that extra support is great.

knitting i've got two fab antenatal exercise DVDs - Tara Lee's pregnancy yoga and Erin O'Brien's Complete pregnancy fitness (with prenatal and postnatal workout DVDs) This last one really makes you sweat!

and tattooed - TWINS! congratsx2! that must be a hugh shock, but hey, at least you won't need to do it all again in a hurry. my friend also had twins (non identical boys) as her first and of course they are a handful, what boys aren't, but she loves being a twin mum and they both have really different characters. it's just lovely.

AFM - i've got NT scan on Tuesday and a bit nervous about downs risk (35) but looking forward to seeing baby again and being past that bit. Still excited to be 12+3 today.

JessieEssex · 13/10/2012 15:03

mama I don't know if you're still checking in, but if so, I hope you can gain some strength from all of our thoughts.

tattooed amazing news! Hope you are slowly getting your head round it...

aufaniae I don't know what my papp-a levels actually were, but I have a midwife appointment on Friday so I can ask then. The letter said that the levels were 'lower than expected' for this gestation, but no other details. They are scanning me at 28 weeks but no other observation is planned until (potentially) after that.

Really really tired today. Need a snooze but DD 'neeeeeeeds' me all the time...
