Nappy lady is the way forward for advice, you tube has nappy lady demos for all diff types of nappies (who they suit, how to assemble and change).
Many washable nappy sites give advice also.
The nappy lady use to hold 'napachinos' (basically a demo/talk/myth dispeller) not sure if they still do.

You will always find that you occasionally use disposables (sickness, hols) and there are some nappies now combining washable and disposable systems.
I've got a handful of bumgenius flips which take cloth and disposable inners.

Mumsnet has cloth nappy threads full of total nappy obsessives who gave me fab advice and help with trouble shooting.

I would research what you think you like the sound of (cost, material, etc) and then look around for deals and ebay etc, they even come up on freecycle.

Dont fear the second hand nappy, they are usually great for absorbancy, often being sold on by people who tried and didnt get on with them so barely used) and cheap.

Go for a couple of different nappies to see what works for you.
In the early days you will be too busy to take on too much extra workload so disposables will be relied on but by 5-10 weeks you may find your weaning yourself on to washables.
With a newborn this can be 8-12 nappies a day! But as they grow that changes.

And when you find yourself sat in Costas covered from waist to knee in orange shit please bare in mind this occurs in washable and disposable alike due to the explosive nature of newborn poos.

sorry that was a little long but its a quiet night on here and it seems that .....yes.... I actually am one of the obsessives.....

Birdies · 24/10/2012 10:19

Hi everyone

bunty was it you asking about the Tena pants? I can't say I've tried them but if they made me feel more comfortable after baby then I would do. No one would know you we're wearing them!

I've been getting I digestion and feeling sick the last couple of days. Am presuming its baby related. I'm also getting loads of low down kicks - like fanjo is getting kicked. Wondering if baby is getting into position!

Going to buy our ridiculously expensive bugaboo donkey at the weekend - excited! Haven't found another that I think would work as well for me though and resale price is good so it's actually a bargain Confused

Just to say re flu and wc jabs in case anyone's got theirs coming up - had both last Friday and no side effects since then beyond slightly bruised arms which have now gone, so was easy peasey.

Birdies · 24/10/2012 10:21

Hmm unless the feeling sick is to do with jabs.....no don't worry, I don't think that's a possible side effect :)

SquealyB · 24/10/2012 11:07

Welcome, diecio and pleasenomore

I must admit I had never considered resusables.....may have to do some research. Again the laundry side of things seriously put me off.

Grateful for the hospital bag list too.

Sorry to hear that people are feeling ill.

I have not even started thinking about Christmas yet. My 30th is in a couple of weeks so going to get past that first and then worry about Christmas.

BuntyCollocks · 24/10/2012 14:36

birdies it was! I may get a pack in case - will report back after birth and let others know if they're a worthy investment Wink Have a lovely time pram buying!

Had my consultant appt today and overall I'm happy. I got a bonus scan I wasn't expecting as he couldn't tell baby's position - which is finally head down! Grin Finally got told she is definitely a girl as opposed to "I think she's a girl", which was nice, and I got them to check my fluid levels [paranoid] which are great.

All on track for a wbac, induction is booked for 2/1/13, but will be offered sweeps from 38 weeks onward. My mum is a bit disappointed as she wanted me to go for a repeat section at 38 weeks - but my hospital won't contemplate a section until >39 - fine by me!

Also got them to agree to monitor me moving about if I can't have the water birth due to issues when I get to hospital, i.e. if she also has late decels.

I feel a lot happier. The only thing is that it means I am definitely having Christmas where we live now, rather than 'home', unless she makes a relatively early arrival. I was never going to go up home for 2 weeks if still pregnant, and I've decided that I'm not taking her up if we're not discharged from the midwife, which is not likely to be for 2 weeks at least, so she'd need to arrive at around 37 weeks, which I feel is rather unlikely.

Now exceptionally undecided about whether to risk the wedding in London if I'm still pregnant at 39 weeks ...

pmgkt · 24/10/2012 14:47

How far from home is the wedding? I have a wedding 2 days after my due date and its about an hour and a half from home. But it is bil's so close relative plus dp is best man. I have said to them that dp will be there unless I'm in labour and I will be there unless in hospital. I will have all my notes and hospital bag with me plus car seat in case of birth and quick release, but I do have the advantage of one of the other guests being a midwife on the local labour ward so there will be no panic stations. Am I nuts

Pascha · 24/10/2012 14:53

My kicks last time were all low down as my breech baby was stamping on my fanjo Hmm. This time they are all still quite low but I have been doing my breech tilt and forward inversion positions like a good girl and the gym ball has been resurrected. The kicks this last couple of days have seemed to be higher - around the bellybutton as opposed to the pelvis so I'm hoping my hard work has paid off.

I've also started suffering a bit of heartburn and mild nausea again. Widget seems higher in my tummy than Weeble ever was. The bum/head (bum, please bum) is just slightly above my bellybutton so I think my innards are being shoved upwards ever so slightly accounting for the heartburn.

Chest is better today, less wheezing, more energy. Off to tesco I go with DS. I love food shopping! HmmHmmHmm

SquealyB · 24/10/2012 15:14

Birdies if you divide the cost by daily usage and number of DCs it really is a pittance Grin (how I justify all spending).

Bunty that sounds like great news all around - that must be a real weight of your mind. Not sure what I would do re the wedding, can you play it be ear and see how you feel, I am sure the bride would understand.

Pashca hope the little one is playing ball and glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.

We are painting the nursery and getting the last of the furniture in this weekend .....eeek. I am so excited about January Grin

dieciocho · 24/10/2012 15:28

Pascha, I'm getting lots of low-down kicks too - on my cervix I think. So, I think baby is "standing up"/breech.
What are the positions you mentioned? And is it too early for me to benefit from them at 25-26 weeks?

Thanks.

allchik · 24/10/2012 16:58

tugs I cant believe what you have had to go through, it must have been so scary for you, i hope your resting up nicely at home, am i right in thinking your a teacher??? if so i hope your having a lovely break and if your not a teacher (baby brain) then i hope your still snuggled at home on the sofa relaxing with your bump! x

Bunty thanks for the list...fab idea, I can't wait to pack my bag....is that really sad? lol! I act think one of my biggest fears post baby is being on the ward and being really hungry (Im sure this is an odd thing to be concerned about but...) I am a really hungry person at the best of times so imagine after giving birth I will be ravinous....my hubbys just realised that the Christmas German market will be outside the hospital when the babies born so maybe he can pop out and get me some sausage lol!! But seriously, any tips for snacks thatl keep would be appreciated.

Half term for me next week, cant bloody wait...just want a week of pj action....total chill out time, we will be making some nursery visits too though which is quite mad.....have already been to visit a private childminder eeeeek! Scary stuff!

Hope everyone is well? xxx

Pascha · 24/10/2012 17:29

Thanks Bunty hope you get the birth you want and don't force anything like weddings if you don't feel like it.

dieciocho have a look at spinningbabies.com and read through. You can do the forward inversion at any point in pregnancy. The breech tilt is recommended from 30-32 weeks. Lots of babies are breech til this point and will turn of their own accord before labour so don't worry at this point. I think its something like 22% at 30 weeks and only 3-4% at 40 weeks so most babies make it.

Its worth looking at that site for all kinds of positioning and posture information for yourself anyway.

Allchik I devoured an entire packet of biscuits post birth and before tea and toast last time (tea and toast is pretty standard post birth fare in all hospitals I think and its bloody welcome). Probably not the best snack though so maybe have some nice cereal bars? I craved sugar after burning off all that energy.

Pascha · 24/10/2012 17:36

Thanks Squealy Smile We are furniture shifting this weekend too.

AppleCrumples · 24/10/2012 17:44

Hi all

just got back from wierd dr appointment. Was hospitalised at 20 weeks with hyperemesis, discharged with some anti emitics. In the last 7 weeks I've got the dose down to 1 a day but on days I take nothing I start to feel sick again and then get anxious I'm gonna get realy ill again. So I went to get a repeat prescription from gp. I was really clear (I thought) about what I wanted but dr started asking if I had heartburn. Yes I do so he tries to just prescribe gaviscon, I panicked and practically demanded the cyclizine as I cannot face another trip to hospital.

He asked then if they had found out what was causing the sickness Confused ! I pointed to my 27 week bump and told him I think this might have something to do with it! Then the 'lights went on' in the drs face as it all started to make sense! Finally got what I needed plus free gaviscon :). Was just a bit shocked as I think I am obviously pregnant and I dropped off my discharge letter at the surgery so surely it should all have been on his computer?!

dieciocho pretty sure you have plenty of time for baby to turn. I had this feeling of baby on cervix in all my pregnancies and they have always been in the head down position.

bealos · 24/10/2012 18:39

Hello ladies...

pmgkt why is it that weddings always seem to fall around due dates?! I went to a good friend's wedding (locally) at 41 weeks. Even managed the conga! Was a bit gutted that my stomach was so squashed at this stage that I couldn't eat more of the delicious looking buffet. Dammit Grin Grin

dieciocho think I'd agree with AppleCrumples I feel the baby very low (or so it seems) but it's been head down the whole way so far... only way to tell really is a scan I guess? Unless you have a very adept midwife.

octanegirl · 24/10/2012 18:40

So....I had a midwife appt on Mon and she said baby was measuring small....I'm 29 weeks and bump measured 26.
I saw consultant today and he said the same thing and immediately booked me in for a scan in the morning. Should I be worried? Baby moving like mad but presumably there could be something wrong? Worried!!!!

AppleCrumples · 24/10/2012 18:49

bealos I haven't actually seen my midwife since 16 weeks so I'll see what she says this week! I know I had that feeling of being kicked in cervix right up until the end last time and she was def the right way up!

Wow lots of winter weddings the only thing I'll be getting ready for in jan will be getting kids back to school! Suspect Xmas hols this year will b quite hard!

AppleCrumples · 24/10/2012 18:53

octanegirl this happened with both ds and I had growth scans both times. They were both fine and healthy I was just small! Think it happens quite a lot so chances are everything is fine, try not to worry (too much) enjoy getting to see your little one again :)

BuntyCollocks · 24/10/2012 19:55

Thanks everyone.

According to good old google maps, it's a 5 hour drive. The only reason I'm considering it is because she's a good friend, and we'll only be there 2 days - unlike if we went home, where we'd be away for 2 weeks.

I cannot find a nice dress that'll do for both heavily pregnant and nursing. I'm ready to throw money at the problem, but the two I got to try from tiffany rose are, to put not too fine a point on it, hideous and short! Not hideous because they're short, but hideous, with the added bonus of making me look like a pregnant hooker.

I'm only 5'8!

Birdies · 24/10/2012 20:25

octane that's only 3 cm different which I thought was in the normal range anyway. And it depends where they start and end the tape measure. And, they get it wrong 9 times out of 10 and baby measures perfectly. Just enjoy your extra scan!

bunty do you mean an every day type dress? If so I am practically living in this one at the mo - very comfy and quite pretty but not too floral if you see what I mean. And has hidden bits for nursing.

www.vertbaudet.co.uk/maternity-before-after-dress-grey-dark-all-over-printed.htm?ProductId=009703099&FiltreCouleur=6436&t=1

Birdies · 24/10/2012 20:27

Ps There are other before and after ones on that website too if you're after something smarter

octanegirl · 24/10/2012 20:29

Thanks Apples and Birdie! I'll stop googling and just wait for the scan in the morn.

BuntyCollocks · 24/10/2012 20:45

Agree with the others, octane I bet baby measures perfectly!

birdies no, was looking for a dress for this fucking wedding Wink

I've ordered the Florence dress from isabella Oliver - 25% off has brought it into contention. If it won't do, there's potentially some that could do in phase eight in a larger size ...

AppleCrumples · 24/10/2012 20:47

Have to admit to almost hoping I measure small and can get an extra scan! Don't want to tempt fate but am desperate to know what flavour bump is...

Bunny222 · 24/10/2012 21:40

Hey all. Went to the physio for my SPD yesterday, they've given me a very sexy mega tubigrip to wear all around my bump. Seemed ok at first, but the squeezing got so uncomfortable, felt awful to have bump so tightly packed, like being squeezed from the outside and the inside.

Had a bad day with work. My irrational boss tore a strip off me in front of the Board yesterday, actually shouting and swearing at me, am sure I felt bump jump when she was yelling. To top it all, the issue wasn't even something I'd done wrong, it's something she's done! Have complained today, but she's the boss and can get anyway with basically anything. The fact that I've just lost my dad, am six months pregnant, and in pain with it makes no difference. Seriously feel like downing tools. :(

I know I mustn't get stressed over it cos its no good for baby, but now 8 weeks til I break up seems like a very long time...

mrsbugsywugsy · 24/10/2012 21:44

Bunty I've been lusting after this dress, it's pretty cheap but I'm not sure if it's 'posh' enough for a wedding?

Otherwise a plain wrap dress, accessorised with some nice jewellery? that way you can wear it again after the wedding.

Octane good luck with your scan tomorrow.

Apple I am [hshock] that your Dr didn't notice you are pregnant. What if he had prescribed you something which was unsafe in pregnancy?

Well the good news is I got a message from my Dr's surgery saying they have the flu vaccine in stock and I should go and have it tomorrow. However, typically, I am now coming down with a cold - sore throat, runny nose, the works. So I don't know if they'll let me have it.
