Marking my place, albeit a bit late! These threads move so quickly! Had my last private scan yesterday (put a pic on the fb group) and it was lovely to see bean again :) I have a midwife appointment Wednesday too but I'm sure that'll go fine. Today has been one of those downer days, bean is fine and that's the main thing but I've had heartburn worse than ever, a very very sore back and I discovered stretch marks :'( I know it's to be expected etc but they look so angry and red and they weren't there a couple of days ago! I was completely prepared for it, I thought, but it didn't stop me having a bit of a cry. Probably being silly, and will probably end up with lots, and it's not the end of the world, but still :(

Elizadoesdolittle · 17/09/2012 22:42

Kyzordz I had the exact same thing as you with the stretch marks with DD. I didn't think I had any but one day as I was getting out of the bath I caught a look at myself at a different angle in the mirror and I had loads of stretch marks. All angry and red looking. I felt like crying and mentioned it to DH who told me they had been there for ages! I don't actually have any this time round and I haven't bothered with any cream. It's probably as my stomach is all stretched as it is!! But to make you feel better they do fade. You can bearly see my old ones now.

LittleLolly · 17/09/2012 22:43

I've just been looking for stretchmarks kyzordz and not found any yet but I am convinced there will be some in the next 6 weeks! I smother the bio oil on twice a day even though it apparently makes no difference.

Has anyone had a water birth or used the pool for labour before? It's a silly question but do people wear something in the pool? I've got a maternity tankini that I coud just wear the top bit of but is there any point, will I just hop in naked?! detective you probably see lots of women in the birth pool, what do they do?

Kyzordz · 17/09/2012 22:53

Hope mine fade too eliza, they definitely weren't there the other day, but I guess there aren't many so thats one thing! DP doesn't seem half as bothered about them as I am! I've been using cream littlelolly, obviously it hasn't kept them away but for all I know it's helped me to not get too many. I'll probably be fine about it eventually it was just the sudden discovery and realisation that I haven't escaped them I think!

StuntNun · 17/09/2012 22:56

Sophia I think once forceps are involved an episiotomy is almost unavoidable.

Horsey you're probably right to give the massage a try since it's your first and you've already been warned that the perineum may cause a problem in labour. The papers I looked at showed a 6% reduction in the episiotomy rate so one in 20 first pregnancy women would avoid an episiotomy by doing perineal massage.

6 weeks left n I have had enough. Stomach has been so tight all day. Back has been killing. Could hardly walk all day. Was slower then a snail. Was having panicked thoughts of this being start of labour Blush. Only thing that calmed me down was that I havnt list my plug yet, so surely I wasn't in labour. Got home n managed a two hour kip. Dreamt I'd gone in to labour. Sad.

Stomach feels really tight still tho. Just doesn't let up. Is this normal?

rowingdowntheriver · 18/09/2012 02:40

Gah, am awake.

stuntnun I had a failed forceps delivery and didn't tear of have episiotomy (and I didn't do perennial massage!) don't know if that is rare or not though?

gtbaby hope you are ok? Please don't rely on not having lost your plug to show you are not in labour. I didn't notice my plug going or my waters breaking but it had apparently happened before getting in to hospital.

Having said that, when my last labor started it felt more like low down period pains that came and went regularly. I don't remember feeling that my stomach was continuously tight. A while ago on this board someone mentioned that dehydration can bring on tightenings and contractions. Maybe it is that?

StuntNun · 18/09/2012 03:14

I'm awake too Rowing. I was reading up on episiotomies and they're performed in 22% of deliveries in Northern Ireland which is much higher than in the rest of the UK. The c-section rate is higher here as well. It makes you wonder how come the NHS has such different rates in different areas. Obviously I would like to avoid both episiotomy and section but that may be harder to do here than in other areas.

I wish I was asleep Sad but I'm too fretful and soooo thirsty. I'm fed up of trying to keep drinking all the time but I'm always thirsty at the moment. There's only so much water you can take.

Marking my place so I can catch up

Titsalinabumsquash · 18/09/2012 07:53

Sleepy today!
Very tempted to have an easy day, I need to do a couple of bits and bobs but apart from that I think it will be a case of hanging round the house.
Very wiggly baby as per usual, legs in ribs, just the way we like it Hmm better than being kicked in the fanjo!

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/09/2012 07:56

GT hope you're ok, I second not to rely on losing your plug. I didn't notice mine going with ds at all. My waters breaking was v obv though!

31 weeks today :)

rowingdowntheriver · 18/09/2012 08:26

I eventually got to sleep at about 5.30 this morning and am so tired now. stuntnun, I didn't notice your post until just now which is a shame as I'd have enjoyed a chat last night!

Instead I was looking at the c-section threads and the redundancy threads, both big things on my mind at the moment. The ELCS threads I read certainly make it seem very appealing to go down that route.

TheDetective · 18/09/2012 08:34

I am so tired. Goodnight!

I'm off to listen to hypnobirthing cd, is very relaxing Grin

Little People do different things, personally I'm planning on wearing a sports type bra (read: comfy!) and not much else. I'd probably feel restricted with bikini bottoms on. Most people wear either nothing at all, bra, tshirt, or bikini top.

Iheartpasties · 18/09/2012 08:51

oh wow my back is aching like a bitch, bump is so heavy. I need to lie down, I will get comfy on the sofa in a bit (when dh gets home from work). We have bought a wrap today - its made over here, but there must be similar ones in the uk, its a hugabub. www.hugabub.com/ . I hope I get on with it! who knows.

ShellyBobbs · 18/09/2012 08:57

I'm considering nipple tassels, Barbara Windsor style to jazz up the post birth pictures, don't know what the midwife is going to think though Grin

Iheartpasties · 18/09/2012 09:02

shelly arf.

Iheartpasties · 18/09/2012 09:02

My nipples tassels would have to be the size of bin lids ...

ValiumQueen · 18/09/2012 09:26

I have started referring to baby as Darragh to DH. It is now not working for him. Grr! It was not hard with the girls, and we had the same boy name in reserve both times.

Iheartpasties · 18/09/2012 09:33

oh names! today I have been saying my dads name to myself trying to see if it would fit for a new baby. I dont know. Argh!

StuntNun · 18/09/2012 09:36

+1 Pasties

GT my waters have broken twice and I never saw a plug so don't count on that sign to be sure you're in labour.

I always thought this would be my third and last child but there's such a big gap between DS2 and this one that I wonder if I might be tempted to try again. DS1 will be nearly 10 and DS2 will be 6 when this baby is born. But it took so long to get pregnant with this one and I'm getting on a bit, and to be honest I'm not sure I would like go through all the worrying and stress of being pregnant again. My first two pregnancies were so straightforwards and relatively trouble free but after miscarrying in December I've spent this whole pregnancy fretting. Maybe if this one doesn't have blue eyes I'll try for another....! Then there would just be the talking DH into it. Maybe I'll stick with the puppy idea!

Has anyone involved their partner in the decision-making process for labour? I remarked to DH yesterday that if the baby was back-to-back or breech then I would ask for a section. But it's his baby too so I'm not sure whether that decision is mine alone. He's going to be the one looking after three kids, cat, dog and me while I recover from a section. My instinctive reaction is that it's my body, my decision but that's not really true is it? He sweetly asked if there was anything he should be doing to prepare for labour so I have asked him to look up breathing for labour so that he can help me with that as I'll probably be a bit panicky and not able to think straight.

Hello ladies,
I had a wonderful time in bath. The massage was the best thing ever. I would really recommend it. She did my back, my neck, and the lower legs and feet.
I was in heaven.

It was nice to get away from the house, and DP, and just be me. I had the best noodles ever, it was freshly cooked and made, also the portion size was huge.

The hotel was not very good. There was food for breakfast, but no plates and cups Sad

Now I'm back, and the house needs cleaning. The washing needs doing, groan.
Evil

Titsalinabumsquash · 18/09/2012 09:53

Glad you had a nice time Evil one of my good friends lives in Bath, it's a beautiful city. Smile

Can I ask? Does anyone else have a fluffy bump? Blush I don't have a dark line of hair like some women do but have sprouted blonde fluff all over my bump! Not something I usually have, I'm a really un-hairy person in genera. I do wonder if
It's the added testosterone from having a boy?

DesperateHousewife21 · 18/09/2012 09:54

Glad you had a good time evil btw how do they do back massages on preg women? Obv you can't lie on your front, I've always wondered this!

This will be our last baby, we only wanted two and we've got a boy and girl so feels just right for us. It's a nice feeling to have done the pregnancy and birth bit by 22 as well!

Titsalinabumsquash · 18/09/2012 09:58

I'm a beauty therapist and trained holistic therapist, when I was still a the salon we massaged pregnant ladies using a rather amusing special mattress/pillow, it had a hole for a bump and boobs! So ladies could still be on their font. We also adapted to a side position massage and one done with the lady on all fours or sitting in a massage chair it it was a shoulder/neck/head treatment. Smile

Titsalinabumsquash · 18/09/2012 10:00
