Jojo that's so good he's going to be there, and that staff have been prepped. I'm glad he's a good one.
Just thought for you, do you know about those silicon scar covers? They are made for sections I think but they're meant to really help protect the area from clothes and they're waterproof and reusable etc. They sell them in mothercare near me, so you could have a look when you go in. Or Boots do them too in the maternity pad/nipple care sort of section.

FloweryBoots · 22/09/2012 08:55

Morning. Busy week at work so just been trying to catch up but can feel sickness kicking in again so skipped last page to do quick post!

JoJO Glad you've got your appt sorted and consultant sounds lovely, hope you're feeling OK adn will be thinking of you.

Vivee Sorry to ehar about your parent's reactions. Such a shame. Mine are very traditional so lots of dissapointment when I moved in with DH before we were married, it's hard to take and I don't like upsetting them, but then get angry that I should feel bad about something I think there is no issue with! It can be tough. Mind you, think my youngest brother's probably had it harder having to tell them he's gay.

Childcare - I used to get childcare vouchers at my old work but never got round to signing up for them at my new one. Mine were through edenred adn it all seemed to work fine. Think it's something like maximum of £270 per month you can get (so not nearly enough to cover all child care, but it still helps). My DS goes to a child minder and we're really happy with that. He's had one in London and one up here and in both cases we've opted for a childminder who works with an assistant so can take more children. We felt having two adults gave more adult influences rather than just one which was DH's concern of CM over Nursery, and we felt it would offer more flexability, particularly when they are wee - like assistant can stay in if wee ones are asleep and CM can still take older ones ou/do school run etc. without waking sleeping ones. Alos thought it was a nice ballance between only a couple of other kids, and seemingly LOADS you can get at big nurseries, and I liked that they have mixed ages together. Our current Childminders are actually a husband and wife team and are great. Finding a good one is very much like finding a nursery you're happy with - you go round and meet lots and see who you like, who's setting you like, and we found mostly it was just about who you felt comfortable with rathern than answers to any specific questions. It's worked well for us and I wouldn't have fancied a nursery when DS was younger.

DS seems much better this morning, still had some calpol as he was a bit warm but he's eating again and playing so looks like he's managed to fight this one off himself. Hoping he's still just a touch under the weather enough to make him want a nap so I can have one too!

theTramp · 22/09/2012 09:02

Blimey, busy night and morning. So it's Saturday and not sure what it's like where you are but there's sunshine in London so - good morning ladies.

JoJo - your consultant really does sound good. V reassuring to know that everyone who needs to be there will be there.

3fortea - v epic post. Your friend sounds lovely. So this baby shower thing - American concept but a good one or a bad one? It's like wedding lists for me, I see how sensible they are and yet somehow they make me feel uncomfortable. It's a British thing isn't it, the discomfort.

I'm considering a big pretend bacon sarnie for breakfast and then some work to do followed by a tour of a beautiful art deco building, which rather sadly is a Weatherspoons, dropping in on some neighbours and then I suspect another early night.

Can't remember everyone who was talking about weird tight belly stretching feelings but add me in that camp. It's not cramp so much as it is pressure. I'm taking it to be a combo of trapped wind, Socs shifting a bit further up (which should be happening around now), a bit of feeling Socs loop the looping in there and fact that yes, skin is stretching and belly is increasing to accommodate everything - albeit that may be more inside than out. Only worry I had was sharp pains in right hand side, but ultrasound and consultant checked and alls well.

Anyone else on the gestational diabetes high risk list and booked in for testing?

mandasand · 22/09/2012 09:07

happy birthday to sarah!

zoey hope you got something to eat in the end last night - sounds awful!! poor thing.

if it's any consolation I didn't enjoy my Nepalese curry. I ordered three veggie sides so I'd have a selection and could share with DH but they were all a bit meh. we saw the proprietors on the towpath last weekend and they berated us for not having been in / placed an order for ages we didn't tell them we had defected to another Nepalese close-by! and I used the twin pregnancy as an excuse (feeling rotten, no appetite etc). I am wondering whether they watered down the food for pregnant me as it was really watery and had virtually no taste! ho hum.

funny phew, glad someone else is having same cervix feelings!! thought it was worst case scenario for a minute!

thanks three - the pressure got a bit better late last night and it feels more like normal this morning. I had another panic last night when I felt a few drops of discharge all at once (sorry tmi!) but nothing else so I just lay down on the sofa, then in bed, and had a good night's sleep. I guess babies are just moving around a lot more now, as funny said, and finding new places to hang out! But I'm really glad I'm having the cervix scan in 12 days for reassurance. Having got this far the last thing I want is an incompetent cervix (is that the right term?) giving up on the pregnancy! funny you should mentioned the twin threads - the expecting twins one is really not very active - weeks can go by without anyone posting! I don't know how these women are coping, unless it's not their first pregnancy and they aren't needing the advice/support! I really appreciate hearing your thoughts on being a mum who also works, thank you! It's really inspiring to hear others' stories of making it work and enjoying it too! Smile

ooh baby shower. I've never been to one. someone said the words to me recently and I pretended not to know what they meant, hehe! I'd be torn tho - family and friends in NW and friends down here.

jojo think John Lewis do Seraphine online, but I only found maternity bras when I went into our local store (Reading).

ooooooh jealous of all the movements! i must spend an hour each day with hands on belly. but, is it more that the movements are internally felt, or felt through your hands when hands on belly?

welcome djh - more the merrier! first timer here too so no experience of hypnobirthing sorry. If I find out I don't definitely need C-section (depends on hospital finding more out about previous surgery on uterus and on how well the twins are doing) I am going to look into active birthing yoga and mindfulness meditation.

chefette I wish my DH was as enthusiastic about getting the place done up before babies arrive! Last night I gently suggested he might want to make a start on re-grouting the floor tiles in the kitchen in prep for new units ? but he looked quite pained at the idea! Big step forward last weekend was (finally!) getting a lock on the back garden gate. Rome wasn't built in a day, I'm told!

Well, going to try to be good and not sneak a peek every hour or so today as want to finish getting book ready for press at some point this century. It's so nearly there!

FloweryBoots · 22/09/2012 09:19

Tramp I have to have the glucose tollerence test. My sister has type 1 diabeties so apparently I'm at increased risk. Didn't have nay probs last time though. Sister was diagnosed about a month after I gave birth so I wasn't tested that time. Sounds a faff. Starve for 12 hours (hmm, that'll help my morning sickness) then drink a sugar drink and sit still for 2 hours. I just can't wait. Wonder if vomiting it all back up will affect the results as I strongly suspect that will happen if sickness has not improved by then!

Ooo, movements. I've felt two little pops now, one last night and one the night before, but they are still few and far between. I'm certain it's LO not wind though. Took me ages to be sure what was what last time.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 22/09/2012 09:20

Morning all, just finishing packing before we set off to Chippenham.

Hi to DJ!

Am reading all your posts use scanning through and not able to name check very easily on my phone but thinking of you all.

tramp I'll probs end up having GTT. had test last time and it came back clear, but as slightly over the BMI threshold and as DD was a whopper there's a fair chance they will make me have it again.

zoeymlucas · 22/09/2012 09:25

I am having the glucose test too tramp as I struggle with blood augers and if I don't get enough sugar I will actually shake and go light headed and confused!!!!
Manada you will tend to feel them more internally till a bit later and that's where you will feel it first, will feel like giant butterfly's then will get bigger and more obvious till you get a nice kick in the bladder or ribs!!
Well am off for flu jab with ds1 this morning, he is not happy and moaning already he has to have it so is taking a weeks t get dressed and ready- he has been warned he will go as he is if he don't get a wiggle on!

Pity you guys don't live closer my DH is obsessed with doing stuff ESP to gardens, and we could have a million doctors appointments and he is in his garden making things pretty or just sorting things- he loves a good project, I get annoyed as he does it but I am made to find things and bring things to him, why he can't just get everything he needs before I will never blinking know!

Well the sun is out so have a fab day x

DoodleBugBee · 22/09/2012 09:51

Blimey oh Trousers! I fell out of the internets for a while due to real life but hauled myself back in to see how you're all doing - not too shabby from the sounds of things very glad indeed.

Only thing to report is that ear infection finally gave up last week, I don't feel as sick as I did and I have a very respectable bump (now named Ripley for obvious reasons) that seems to make tickling/fluttering movement whenever Tom Selleck is on the tv.

Wishing all Marchers a smashing weekend - make the most of the sun if you have it! We're planting bulbs this afternoon Smile

x

JoJoBella84 · 22/09/2012 09:55

manda I think the flutters come first, but I've not even had those yet!! I spent a lot of time hands to belly having a good feel about!! I would really like to start feeling something before weds as I'm
Not really sure what these sensations are like and I don't want them to be masked with pain etc!!
djh welcome, welcome! I've seen hypnobirthing advertised at the York hospital, but no info re cost etc!
zoey I'm the same re: blood sugars. OH was trying to convince me to be tested for diabetes before I found out I was pregnant. I'll be fine one minute then my body temp will just drop, I'll get shakey, freezing cold, sense of humour failure!! It happens so
Fast though!!

theTramp · 22/09/2012 10:07

That's also me. If I don't eat for a long time - well you wouldn't want to be in the firing line, and then crumple. Anyway test if because of pcos but it sounds v tedious. 12 hours starvation followed by sugar drink and sitting around in a waiting room for 3 hours. Come on! (sigh). Not for a while yet though.

You're not meant to be able to feel anything as yet, so if you're not don't worry ladies. I keep getting butterflies, which I prefer to think is Socs but the way my body is right now it's way more likely to be wind. A little romantic licence never hurt anyone.

Just been reading my day by day book. Today I've been reassured that I shouldn't worry about not looking pregnant, bump will come soon enough.. Erm :)
V cool reading about the development of Socs internal organs. Much I didn't know. Anyway, lie in over - off for big breakfast. Yum

Chefette · 22/09/2012 10:30

Jojo I heard from my chums who have popped their buns out recently that new look union square was good, as was mother care (but pricey?) maybe also try tesco danestone? My cousin said primary leggings and jiggers were pretty good for her, just up a size, and she wore their skinny jeans up till the DVD under the bump. Primark on a sat morning however is not something I would be recommending to anyone!!!!!!

Chores galore this morn, catch up tonight probs, welcome new lady sorry not name checked again x

Hypnobirthing fact finding exercise required?! Get googling girls!!

Have good days today

OP posts:
Chefette · 22/09/2012 10:35

Oops that should read Primark joggers! Blush although jiggers sounds hilarious!!

OP posts:
Chefette · 22/09/2012 10:37

And just how often is Tom selleck on telly these days?! Hmm

OP posts:
dameflamingo · 22/09/2012 10:59

Morning. I have to admit my adoration of the Selleck doodle it's the safe feeling that I get from having grown up watching him in films. I'm attached to childhood food, Sandi Toksvig and lemon tea which my gran used to provide. Comfort? Delighted that Selleck gets Ripley dancing! With me it's water, I generally get a littleflutterfrom The Schnoodle (don't judge...my dh thought it up) in the bath or pool. It does feel a bit likea flutter or that spider that wriggled and tiggled and tickled insider her.

I have the old glucose test too Tramp cos of the old PCOS and fact that df has diabetes. Very dull I agree and starving for 12 minutes sounds unlikely at the moment.

I've also been having stretching feelings and occasional pains but remembering back to my growth spurt at 14 it's all familiar. I went from 4'7 to my final 5'2" in a very short period..and I grew breasts almost overnight...in comparison this feels more, natural!!!

May have to go and find some Selleck TV now ha ha.

dameflamingo · 22/09/2012 11:01

P.s. has anyone heard from mrs rigby recently? Come back mrs r!!

Chefette · 22/09/2012 11:11

OodHousekeeping · 22/09/2012 11:34

I'm having the GTTthis time. I'm thinner than last time but didn't qualify then Hmm though the lack of interest in my care so far may mean I miss it anyway.

Vivee74 · 22/09/2012 11:37

Some one was asking about John Lewis maternity. John Lewis on Oxford street has a brilliant range of stuff. Think I will need to go back and have a proper look when I'm by myself.

Thanks for the support re my parents. I knew being conservative, religious and from a small farming community they would not take it well. They've always encouraged us to explore the world and do new things but it doesnt align to their exact idea of how life should be its an issue. Over time they will have to get used to the idea and will love my child. My brother was ok but he did ring to suggest I consider marriage to make them happy. At the moment while ever they are not happy for me I'm not sure I have much to say to them and don't need the stress of their views. I've spent to much of the last week fuming and in tears to call for more grief. Otherwise my cousins and friends have been incredibly excited for us.

On the positives I've had a great run along embankment this morning and now off to Jesus Christ super star the musical with a buddy.

JoJoBella84 · 22/09/2012 11:58

chef one of my house mates has named my bump 'cherry berry'
I tend to give a different one everyday though! Bamba-bino is my current choice!!

ThreeForTea · 22/09/2012 12:21

I'm afraid my tum is the very uninspiring 'baby' mostly because dd gives it sticky kisses and says 'heyo, baby. Heyo' and waves to it. Sure I can do better though!

ThreeForTea · 22/09/2012 12:36

Re baby showers, i'm not sure how widespread they are, but people I know always seem to have them. Mostly just a nice way for the mum to see her friends before its all go. Have been a couple of completely ott ones though that are more strangly somewhere in between a christening and a hen party with formal invites, outfits, spensive gifts, feasts etc but I guess each to their own! I actually had two before dd, one arranged by my sis for family/childhood friends, and one by my friends where I live, no pomp really just a nice distraction from the anxiety of being about to pop!

pinkpeony4 · 22/09/2012 12:55

tramp very jealous of your lie in. Ds3 decided 5.45am was the morning today - Zzzzzz

JoJo I hope you are Ok and not too worried about Wednesday. It's great that they have chosen a day your Consultant will be there to watch over things.

Tiddley, Three & anyone else with sleep issues, Colds are the problem in our house too. I was up 9 times last night with all Children before my day began at 5.45. All had blocked noses, especially bad for ds3 who has a dummy so he couldn't breath when he had it in his mouth! He is the only one of mine to ever have one i got desperate after 11 months of no sleep and I really am going to try my hardest for this next baby not to have one. Such a pain!

Sundae The Coatigan looks fab. Seraphine have a shop in Kensington & they sell it in Peter Jones so I might go and have a look.

Vivee So sorry to hear your parents reaction, it is so old fashioned.. I hope they come around soon and get excited by your news. It's not like you are 14!
Which maternity brands in John Lewis Oxford St do they sell?

Manda I hope your pressure pain has eased. I saw a huge Nepalese restaurant in Oxford when I was last there, is the food very spicy?

Eric Congrats on a boy! Is it all boys on here so far?!

DJH80 Welcome & Congrats!!

Chefette Glad all is well & welcome back.

So sorry if I have missed anyone else. I hope everyone is Ok.

I have been at football all morning watching ds1. It's a beautiful day, a perfect Autumn morning. Party with ds2 this afternoon so hopefully lots of yummy food to eat!

I am feeling lots of movements now (17 weeks). Tiny wriggles & kicks - amazing!

zoeymlucas · 22/09/2012 17:53

Ahhh just had a lovely bath ran by DH before I meet girls at pub for a few orange juices, may even go wild and havea full fat coke Shock.

I have never had Nepalese food so will put it on my list of NEEDs :)

My friends are about 25 mins away, and am already excited about leaving pub about 10 and grabbing an Indian takeaway on way home as its right next to my old fav where I used to live, how bad is that but I really need onion bhaji and keeps naan bread!!!!

Have now realised all my maternity clothes are either work or day to day stuff not going out so must get shopping again soon- not that I go out often but it would be nice to have things to wear!!!!

JoJoBella84 · 22/09/2012 21:46

Ooooh I have new maternity clothes!! I have a pair of straight leg, under the bump band jeans and a lovely long striped warm Woolley jumper!! Both from mothercare - their jeans selection in store is bad here and I found a great pair of boyfriend fit over bump jeans in a size 10 that fit perfectly but couldn't see them lasting much longer once my bump blooms I'm normally a 12 so I was giddy for a while!!!

Funnylittleturkishdelight · 23/09/2012 07:22

manda I know! I was at work and feared the worst :( so worried I was going to miscarry in front of the children and it was just horrid!

So much better now though- thank goodness!

I heard the heartbeat on Friday! It was so exciting! The most beautiful sound- felt very moved!
