A troll? Really? I only saw the first page but did it all go pear shaped?

horsey I knew you would have good flea ideas - not sure that sounds very nice but you know, horses and stuff . . . Anyway . . . Our cat lives inside all the time so no flea or worm issues. She once had worms

I have done nothing today other than sit on my fat arse and read the interweb. I got my book by she who must not be named to learn a bit about weaning but I can't be arsed doing even that.

Got my letter from the council today confirming my maternity leave date. They have got my name wrong though. Doh. I am sure it will be fine though.

I have had a lot of massive kicks today. Lovely after a few weeks of cervix dancing.

DesperateHousewife21 · 02/08/2012 16:24

Sorry to sounds stupid but what does PE mean? Whatever it is horsey I'm glad you don't have it!

The only birth threads I've been on have the preg woman declaring she's in labour and then doesn't come back to say how it went!

Thechick · 02/08/2012 16:26

lol VQ

ValiumQueen · 02/08/2012 16:28

Pulmonary Embolism. Clot on the lung. Not good at all. Nasty things can happen, like death etc.

The birth thread did not really get anywhere. Outed fairly early, but they were probably gonna say sad things in time.

FatimaLovesBread · 02/08/2012 16:28

liliana I've got a gym ball rather than birth ball. Just make sure you get an anti-burst one as that will deflate slowly if it pops rather than just burst. I got mine from amazon for around £10. Bright green and DH complains it stinks of plastic but it helps my pelvis and coccyx.

I've written my birth plan with the no induction at 40 weeks section, will see what my midwife says tomorrow. We're going to ikea tomorrow night to get everything for the nursery.
And we have a weekend of no cricket as DH has done his hamstring. Although he'll still want to go watch

horseylady · 02/08/2012 16:30

pass no offence taken lol we are fairly lucky that we don't get too many fleas. We did when we had carpets and material chairs but everything since we re built the house became wipeable downstairs. I don't flea treat monthly but do it more 6-7 weekly. The raid sprays are fab but not sure if they're ok to use when pregnant?

dh basically blood clot on the lung. Stands for pulmonary embolism

ValiumQueen · 02/08/2012 16:30

fatima there is a good thread in pregnancy about ikea and what is good and not so good.

Passmethecrisps · 02/08/2012 16:56

Aaaahhhhh! I didn't know what it meant either but thought it might mean pre-eclampsia.

horsey I would imagine you shouldn't drink or bathe in the flea treatment. Other than that I am sure it is fine in the quantities you are using. I have no idea though and am not much for the 'rules' of what you are supposed to do. Lots of eye-rolling from me when someone asked me how I had had my hair dyed as 'they' say you shouldn't get your hair dyed during pregnancy. Noone ever says who 'they' is (I suspect it is Yahoo answers) or gives any scientific reason why not.

On that note! I am actually reading about weaning now. Apparently I have to start weaning at 11am. And if I am using pre-made jars I hold never feed straight from the jar but tip the mush out first. Maybe I am being dim but why? If there is something in the jar then it wil transfer to the bowl. Also, the jar is a damned sight more likely to be über clean than one of my bowls! I wonder if this is the chapter which will see me chucking the book out the window?

ValiumQueen · 02/08/2012 17:03

The jar thing: because the little darlings will only take a tiny amount at any one time it saves throwing the whole jar away, as once spoon has been in mouth and back in jar, jar will be contaminated. if you decant a weeny bit, you can save the rest for later.

The 11am thing: that is the best time because baby will not be overly hungry or overly tired.

ValiumQueen · 02/08/2012 17:08

PE is also an abbreviation for Pre-eclampsia, also Physical Education, Price to Earnings Ratio, Portable executable (drive) polyethylene, and in some countries is a name.

DesperateHousewife21 · 02/08/2012 17:10

Thanks valium I originally thought pre eclampsia but then when everyone started saying 'a PE' it didn't make sense!
V glad it wasn't a PE then!

I've just read that whole twins birth thread, what weird people you get on the Internet (the troll I mean not those who responded!)

Lilliana · 02/08/2012 18:06

Thanks to everyone who gave advice on balls - going to get a 65 cm one but not paying double so it has 'pregnancy' in the title Grin

Horsey so glad you are ok, that must have been scary.

StuntNun · 02/08/2012 18:21

MadameGazelle you need a cot on wheels so you can relocate baby at will!

Have used retail therapy to take my mind of my impending SAHM status. Don't tell the DH that I spent £85 on a baby swing. 'But where will we put it?' he will ask. I'm going to hide it under the bed lol. Long story but when my SIL NutellaOnToast had her DS1 (she's been off the thread for a while due to an ill DH) then we lent her our baby swing that my mum bought for my DS2. Only problem is Nutella is due the week after me and lives in Aberdeen so no problems, keep the swing she'll need it for her DC2. But how to explain this to my mum you ask. Just buy another Fisher Price swing and hope she doesn't notice that it's different! It's been six years, there's no way she'll remember the exact design. What a complicated way to keep my mum oblivious happy.

ValiumQueen · 02/08/2012 18:23

My gym ball has had some pounding from me and DH (not at the same time though) and it has never popped. Neither of us are particularly slim.

horseylady · 02/08/2012 19:26

Yeah I've not had reason to use the spray so wouldn't read up on it. As I said I think we have similar views on 'the rules' common sense in most cases prevails. However I'm anti taking medicine at the best of times so even less likely to take anything during pregnancy when people say don't. Lots of orange and honey for me!!

Didn't think about pre eclampsia sorry!! Blood Clot was just being lazy when I typed!! Still feeling shocking but hey! At least I know it's an infection, yes there's still chance of complications but after today I'm just grateful me and the baby will fingers crossed be ok!!

Passmethecrisps · 02/08/2012 19:29

Nice one horsey. Take it easy and make sure you are fully better before going back to work.

All the talk about balls was making me giggle. I am such a child

StuntNun · 02/08/2012 19:56

Here's a random thought that just occurred to me, if I'm made redundant tomorrow and going to be off work three months before the baby's born does anyone think it would be a good idea to get a dog? My dog is ten now and getting a bit old so I thought a puppy might liven her up a bit. I mentioned it to my DH and he thinks it's a great idea. He was previously dead against it because we would have puppy and baby too close together but this would give a bit of time for training and hopefully toilet training before the baby's born. Any thoughts?

DesperateHousewife21 · 02/08/2012 19:56

horsey that's ok! I just couldn't think what else it could be hope you're feeling better v soon. Glad everything with baby is ok.

LOL at valium and dh pounding the ball. Of course not at the same time Wink

applepieinthesky · 02/08/2012 20:01

Take care of yourself horsey

I'm off out in a bit. Going to a pub quiz with my mum, brother and his girlfriend. Should be a laugh. Only thing is it doesn't start until 9 and I'm usually shattered by then. I went to see batman at the weekend and fell asleep in the cinema Blush

ValiumQueen · 02/08/2012 20:20

stunt maybe having a still young puppy and a newborn would be a bit much for you to manage? Then again it may help ease some of your stress, or at least distract you with poops on the floor and chewed doors. You already have a dog, so clearly know what you are getting into.

I am a mean mummy as I have said no dogs until all kids are at school. DH has said DD1 can a rabbit at Christmas and I hit the roof! The only way she can have rabbit is for dinner.

capedcrusader25 · 02/08/2012 20:26

Haha I have no experience of any animal but I would have a dog/cat any time, wish I could. However I suspect that's just the cuddly cute aspect appealing to me. My DP is like you vq - he hates cats with a passion, gets it from his mum!

daisychain76 · 02/08/2012 20:33

OOh, stunt I would be tempted by a puppy. My DB's cat has just had kittens and there is one left. I am so tempted but DH is horrified by the idea (we have 2 cats already).

TheDetective · 02/08/2012 20:45

Sorry VQ Blush I actually really like the song, I just turn it off before the last 2 lines!

Horsey pregnancy means absolutely everything gets taken as worse case scenario ;) Glad all is well though!

Stunt Am so angry for you, what absolute bastards. I think whatever happens you will have a strong case for unfair dismissal. I'm not an expert, but what you have written sounds very dodgy on their side. It seems so so so unfair to make someone redundant in such a way when pregnant - it's not like it would be easy to just go out and get another job right now, and the last thing you need while you have a young baby is to be job searching. Grrrrr. Angry I am sure it will all work out, but really, you shouldn't be going through it right now.

Have now finished painting the white on the nursery walls - just the coloured stripes to do now! I had to go out and buy another tin of paint today - it's Dulux white silk, and the first 2.5l tin I bought only covered one wall, plus a small part of another wall. Total area of just 6sqM! Tin was supposed to cover 32sqM! It looked crap as well, patchy and poor coverage, considering it was just covering a bog standard magnolia matt underneath.

So, I got a 5l tin, thinking I must have done something wrong. On opening the new tin, I noticed it was a totally different consistency, thinner than the previous tin. Its given much much better coverage, I've used 1/4 of the tin to cover the other walls, and do a 2nd coat on the walls I'd already done. Total of 16sqM.

Am considering complaining to Dulux. I did mention it in B&Q today, that the coverage was particularly bad, but they told me I had clearly been putting it on wrong. I was sure I hadn't. I've decorated 2 full houses plus some rooms in a 3rd house, I'm not a total novice.

Anyway, what would you do? Complain directly to Dulux? I've wasted £13 on a crap tin of paint, plus 3 hours of painting it, and then another hour repainting it! And then I spent £16 on the 5l tin thinking I'd need it if the coverage had been so little with a 2.5l tin. I should have been able to do the whole room with a 2.5l tin! So now I've got a shed load of white paint left, that I don't need!

In other news, my pram has arrived in store! They didn't tell me when I ordered that once it arrived I'd only have 7 days to pay it off! I wasn't expecting it for a couple more weeks, so got to use a credit card to pay, but I don't care too much because I can't wait to get it, and play with it Grin

Passmethecrisps · 02/08/2012 20:45

stunt for sensible, reasoned advice, see *valium's response. For "OMG! Get a puppy! It would be awesome" see me.

DesperateHousewife21 · 02/08/2012 20:46

Dh says we can get a cat but we're going to wait til the baby is a bit older because he said they can sit on them while they're asleep?!
Blimey a husband, 2 kids and a cat at the age of 22!
