Hi Everyone,
I'm new to mumsnet but have been lurking about for the last week or so.

I got my BFP on Saturday (my partner's birthday) Grin I'll be due on 20th April with DC 1 so it's still only very early days but I'd love to be a part of this little group! Could I be added to the list please?

I'm so excited, but we've decided not to tell our families for another 4 weeks when we go vist, but it's all I can do not to bring it up! I feel like I'm about to burst.

My only symptom so far has been lots of (I think implantation) cramping - does anyone else get it at pretty much the same time everyday? I've had it for the last 6 days now and I could probably set my watch by it!

kittykatsforever · 14/08/2012 20:45

Essex so so pleased pg is going well, that must be a relief, I hope that the other thing is just pg related, aparently the cervix can be easily irritated in pregnancy
Sunny- have you contacted the gp/ epu? I had a full on af and levels still going up and I've had really bad back ache so much so I woke up last night, I hope we are both ok, I have a thread going in pregnancy about bleeding but hcg levels going up and alot have posted they have bled through pregnancy, I was told to go in if I was fling a pad every hour but when I had a mc it was abit of spotting to start with but then went very quickly, a pad every 5 mins so it was obvious, fx you'll be fine x

ratbagcatbag · 14/08/2012 21:06

Big hugs sunny, can you contact your dr if you're worried, I was told that spotting is normal and not too worry to much (doesn't help you I know) xxxx

threeleftfeet · 14/08/2012 21:31

Congratulations sugarfiend! Thanks

And welcome to mumsnet! Grin

I joined mumsnet in much the same way, when I was pregnant with DS a few years back. I should probably warm you - it all starts very innocently, with a few sensible pregnancy-related questions, then before you know it's too late, you're hooked!! Wink

bunnygirl80 · 14/08/2012 22:45

This thread is moving waaay too fast for me to keep up.

I'm feeling rubbish still. Constant nausea and sooooooo tired. I don't remember feeling this bad this early with DS.

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 15/08/2012 01:04

congrats sugarfiend! welcome to the thread.

sunny - call your gp in the morning, you may get to go to the EPU as kittykat says. sending lots of sticky vibes your way x

bunnygirl - come here and sit with me. I'm miserable. felt ill all day. can't even be arsed to use capital letters or check my spelling - that's how bad things have got Wink

now, i'm going to try and get some sleep. was 3am last night before i drifted off, lets see what is in store this eve.

on a happy note - eeeeee babies!!! Wink

babyjames · 15/08/2012 07:59

Hi there,
Please can I join? I had a BFP last Friday and due around 19th April I think. Not sure I will keep up with your pace as have a 2 year old and work full time but I will try! Had to tell work on Monday as my job is quite risky and I'm supposed to get a risk assessment. Manager doesn't seem too clued up though! Feel guilty bout telling work before parents so may tell them today.

Have a good day everyone :)

ratbagcatbag · 15/08/2012 08:07

Hi baby

Congratulations, loads of friends know but no family yet for us as we think of anything goes wrong trying to deal with the emotions from family will be so hard but friends less so. I can't really explain it to be fair.

Our little group is now getting huge, how many are we up to now????

Hope everyone is well today, sickness easing slightly now, but very finicky on food and drink at the moment. Oh well :)

babyjames · 15/08/2012 08:20

Thanks for the welcome rat . I was thinking that the news may cheer my family up. My little sis is having a procedure today as found Cancer cells :(
Know what you mean though, difficult to know what to do for the best. Had few queasy moments but apart from that no symptoms at all! Bit worried bout the lack of sore boobs etc! Seeing midwife for first time next Wednesday. Did question with the receptionist if that was not a little early but she seemed to think not! Who knows!

ratbagcatbag · 15/08/2012 08:26

I've got a midwife meeting on the 7th sept and I'll be 10+4 then, after that I get a scan date within two weeks. So I guess different areas work differently.

Worst symptom for me is tiredness, I'm already onto an extension with my degree and got 2500 word assignment due on on weds, and collaborative wiki to finalise and all I do when I get in is sleep. Had ten hours last night, after being awake an hr all I crave is my bed again. :)

I'm hoping everyone's babies stick and we all have laughs along the way. This thread has been a real lifesaver for me as had some awful early days. X

JaquelineHyde · 15/08/2012 08:33

Morning everyone,

How are we all feeling today? I'm knackered and feeling a little bit sick this morning.

Congratulations to all the new joiners and roll on the 12 week mark.

ratbagcatbag · 15/08/2012 09:14

Can I ask another question? What does BFP stand for? Tried lots of combinations but I don't think Breast Fed Positive is correct Blush and obviously doesn't make sense Grin

spidermanspiderman · 15/08/2012 09:22

Tired and sick again. Dd is toilet training at the moment and refusing to go on the potty only the toilet upstairs, normally that would be fine but at the moment it's horrible.

My boobs haven't changed at all yet Sad. I just want bigger boobs and no sicknes!

threeleftfeet · 15/08/2012 09:29

BFP = big fat positive! Grin

threeleftfeet · 15/08/2012 09:31

And POAS = pee on a stick. It still makes me smile that there's an acronym for peeing on a stick, not sure why Grin childish

This should help for future reference

threeleftfeet · 15/08/2012 09:35

ratbagcatbag you're doing a degree - me too! Which year are you?

I've just finished my second. I'm meant to be doing a placement this year - hoping I can do most of it thisyear then defer the rest to the following year.

DP is also studying, the baby should come just as he has to do his final project - not the best timing! But we'll manage, somehow!

Our uni is very supportive with student parents, thankfully.

We're both (very) mature students btw!

threeleftfeet · 15/08/2012 09:38

babyjames congratulations! Grin

Good to see you over here :) (I was on the August thread with you)

jessiethecowgirl · 15/08/2012 09:43

Hi everyone! Am gently climbing on board the bus. Got my BFP today (dd April 23) but had MC last month so am really nervous and need hand holding! Am looking forward to reading through the 20 pages of posts, when DD goes down for nap.

Quick question: Am trying to cut out my caffeine, what other hot drinks can we have in early pregnancy? Are all herbal teas okay? I've heard a few bad things about green tea in pregnancy...

EssexWelsh · 15/08/2012 10:15

Just came out of booking in appointment with doctor, all seems very real, problems aside, I'm feeling positive today. Well that and so so sick, ditto all I want to do is sleep! I'm a teacher so having the holidays has been a life saver but dreading going back still feeling like this!! Having my 2inches of grey hair coloured now, fingers crossed the fumes don't send me to the sick bucket, as have wedding tomorrow, with a menu of for starters...prawns, pâté or goat's cheese-now how do I get out of that, not drink all day and blatantly feel queasy!

My top tip of the day-nurture valley-ginger nut crunch, my new sickness friend!

ratbagcatbag · 15/08/2012 10:19

Really pleased for you Essex, my sickness cure is dark chocolate :) not good for you but sorts me out :)

I always laugh at the acronyms, maybe we should have a jokey thread of best acronyms that are wrong. :)

kittykatsforever · 15/08/2012 10:21

Welcome babyjames and Jessie, I've seen you on the threads aswell!!
Jessie the normal decaf tea is great. I can't tell the difference at all

DeekeyDoo · 15/08/2012 10:25

Hi babyjames and jessie - welcome :)

jessie herbal teas like peppermint and most fruit teas are fine. You should avoid green tea and sage tea. And raspberry leaf (until 37 weeks!). They do also do caffeine free regular tea.

Essex Weddings are tricky! But my doctor told me that prawns are fine as long as they are cooked (who eats raw prawns?!) and goat's cheese is also fine if it has been cooked (in a tart or something). I suppose you could always wear a bit extra face powder so that you look pale and say you have a stomach bug?!

JaquelineHyde · 15/08/2012 10:26

ratbagcatbag and aufaniae I'm a student too Grin I completed my degree last year and have had a year out but I start my 2 year Masters in September. If the baby sticks I will be 7 weeks away from the end of my first year and in the middle of placement...oh the joys!

What Uni's are you both at and what are you studying?

ratbagcatbag · 15/08/2012 10:35

I'm doing a business studies degree with Open university, so I've got this course which finishes in Oct, the should be starting one in oct that results in an exam on 27th March, which is very close to dd. and the should face a slight overlap and start my final course in feb to October. I'm thinking I may have to defer for twelve months. Argh. What are you lovely ladies doing?
Oh and work are paying, so of I fail I have to repay the money. Which I can't afford. Eeeek.

threeleftfeet · 15/08/2012 10:52

There's quite a long list of herbs you shouldn't use in pregnancy.

However bear in mind that they mean used in a medical sense - so taken regularly.

So, basil for example is on the list as it's an "emmenagogue" (can make your period come). But what they mean is don't drink several cups of basil tea a day every day! Easting yummy basil on your pasta / salad is not going to make any difference!

Here are some of the more well known ones from a random link I found online! (I haven't checked the reliability of the info!)

Here's the full list

Aloe too stong of a laxative; an emmenagogue; teratogens
Angelica stimulates suppressed menstruation; can cause uterine contractions
Arnica strong uterine stimulants
Basil Emmenagogue
Castor Oil teratogen
Cayenne stimulate muscle, including the uterus, possibly causing miscarriage.
Chicory strong uterine stimulants
Coffee avoid caffeine, as it irritates the uterus; excessive amounts in some sensitive individuals can cause premature birth or miscarriage
Comfrey can cause liver problems in mother and fetus - use only briefly, externally only, for treating sprains and strains; strong uterine stimulants
Cotton Root
Elder do not use during pregnancy or lactation
Eucalyptus oil This oil should be avoided during pregnancy as it is difficult to eliminate through the kidneys
Fennel stimulate muscle, including the uterus, possibly causing miscarriage.
Fenugreek uterine relaxant
Feverfew brings on contractions or bleeding
Flax seed teratogen; stimulate muscle, including the uterus, possibly causing miscarriage.
Ginseng teratogen
Goldenseal too powerful an antibiotic for the developing fetus, also should not be used if nursing ;abortive
stimulants
Licorice Steroid; stimulate muscle, including the uterus, possibly causing miscarriage.
Licorice Root can create water retention and/or elevated blood pressure
Parsley dries up milk
Passion Flower stimulate muscle, including the uterus, possibly causing miscarriage.
Rosemary strong uterine stimulants
Saffron can cause miscarriage and other problems
Sage teratogen; stimulate muscle, including the uterus, possibly causing miscarriage.
Sarsaparilla
Wild Ginger an emmenagogue that causes uterine contractions.
