Good luck with your scan tomorrow manda, so exciting seeing the little bean for first time!
Is feeling flushed a symptom?
And help DH is talking to me about giant fossilised clams!

mandasand · 24/07/2012 21:20

Welcome, Hermione and TouchofInsanity! Nice to have you with us Smile I was on Cerazette, too, TouchofInsanity but only for a few months and before that the Depo injection. I was told it could take up to a year to conceive so was really glad it was just three or so months. Got period quite soon, but my cycles fluctuated from 20 to 33 days so it will be interesting to see if I really am 7 and a half weeks tomorrow, as midwife predicted!

Thanks, VixJane, am very excited about the scan tomorrow, but also a bit nervous just in case things aren't okay. But that's why I booked it, to be sure. And my DH was not at all up for it either, thinking I should wait till 12 weeks, but when I told him about the chance of a missed MC up to 8 weeks and the fact my symptoms diminished a bit ago he began to understand why I might not want to wait another bunch of weeks - even more emotionally invested etc. Hey nice theory about the bad weather, hehe!!

Thanks for the good lucks, sneeze and kkforever! Yay for breaking your Wotsits-whilst-preggers cherry, kk!

Hope everyone's having nice evenings. DH is tickling my toes whilst I type and he's we're watching a BBCFour documentary about the history of motorways (yawn!)

ATourchOfInsanity · 24/07/2012 21:35

Thanks Flowery - don't mind the abbreviation at all Wink
I also have less cramping this time around - must be due to my uterus already having been stretched to hold a 10Ib 1'er less than a year ago... Rather scared when people say 2nd baby is usually bigger!

I was on Cerazette due to breast feeding as they say it is safe to use as a contraception...although clearly not very reliable! Coil next time methinks! Would strongly advice all of you to look into other contraception afterwards if thinking of breast feeding, unless you want to have a small family rather rapidly Grin

Good luck for the scan manda ! I did a private scan at 16wks last time as was too impatient to wait until 20wks for sexing scan. I thought it was worth it and will prob do it again :)

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 24/07/2012 21:42

insanity know what you mean about already having a big baby and worrying about %232, DD was 9lb 13oz!!! So dread to think what size this one might be! Confused

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 24/07/2012 21:43

Not sure what %232 means, I meant DC2!

ATourchOfInsanity · 24/07/2012 21:47

I think I am going to ask for a late scan just to see sizes - had to have an EMCS last time (my MW kept telling me it would be around 8Ibs despite me gaining 3.5st and looking like I had swallowed a space hopper) and would rather know whether to book a planned section this time around as I don't dilate very well even on oxytocin!

Sunnymeadows · 24/07/2012 22:36

manda Good luck with your scan tomorrow.

Lovely weather in the south east, hope it lasts through to the weekend.

Sunnymeadows · 24/07/2012 22:38

Im not very good with bolding peoples names coz Im using my phone but just wanted to say welcome to all new joiners to the thread and congratulations on your BFP! Wink

Tay1981 · 25/07/2012 02:34

Hello

Good luck to all those having scans etc. I had one too today and everything looked ok 8+4 today according to measurements. Am still struggling with the sickness and when nurse weighed me I had lost 6lbs since last visit exactly 2 weeks ago but that isn't as bad as I thought it might be so was relieved. Other good news was that I don't have to inject myself with blood thinners!! Hooray - was really worried about that but consultant reckoned unless anything anything drastically abnormal when bloods are back I can just take aspirin. Possibly best of all he described me as a 'thin woman' haha 1st time thats ever happened to me! Smile.

To those out there also struggling with sickness - take one day at a time. Everyone is different and it can be really annoying to get endless 'helpful' suggestions I realize that. If it gets really bad and your losing weight and vomiting a lot make sure you get to the GP - there are lots of things they can give you to help and prevent any scary hospital admissions. Things I have found to help are drinking flat fizzy drinks in whatever flavor you can tolerate (for me lemon seems best). Drinking a little glass (children's size) then attempting to eat about 30 mins afterwards can settle your stomach just enough. I find sugared cereals sit easier in the morning even though I usually hate them. Ice lollies or ice cubes made from fruit juice are also good stomach settlers. Keeping a diary of when you feel better / rough sometimes helps you establish a pattern and therefore be ready to eat when you can. If you can get other people to prepare food - I can never eat food I have prepared myself - think Ive clearly already spent too long looking at it! If you feel v rough and can't keep anything down you could try jelly or boiled sweets both of which are easy to get down and don't taste too bad on the way back Wink. I also read someone having a problem brushing their teeth - I have found it helps to change to a gel toothpaste as opposed to paste. E.g. Theramed. Its really horrible throwing up when you've just brushed your teeth yuck.

We have told dd now she was just too agitated about what was wrong with me and we felt honesty was prob the best policy. She is v excited but already referring to the baby as her 'little sister'. Have to keep reminding her it may be a boy Hmm.

tiddleypompom · 25/07/2012 08:20

Hello newbies!

V quick post as so busy today packing - just wanted to check in really. Yay for tay & no thinners :)

DS 10 months on Sunday - in our new place - and dad out of hospital last night. Things are looking up!

Hope scan is lovely & reassuring manda - happy anniversary! Loving hearing about positive early scans, helps distract from waiting for my 12 week in Aug.

Happy sunny days all

Welcome to the new joiners :)
Well I feel much better today, could it be because I have started taking pregnacare? I felt a bit sick when I got up but I had breakfast and am now enjoying a coffee. I hope this lasts!
manda A scan, how exciting. I hope it went well.
Tay I took your sugary cereal advice this morning, it went down very well.
I couldn't get hold of wotsits yesterday so I had mini cheddars. They were delicious :)

Lexiindisguise · 25/07/2012 09:55

Welcome newbies & good news,Tay! Manda enjoy your early scan & the anniversary. No early scan for me, my DH is firmly in the wait for 12 week club!
Another lovely day here, trying to be more positive, DH was being very sweet talking about the bean last night & I am really hoping things will all work out well!

JoJoBella84 · 25/07/2012 09:57

Bad news ladies - I no longer like wotsits :'(

manda I hope the scan went well, let us know when you're ready :)
tay My biggest discovery re morning sickness is that after I've been sick I have 20 mins or so of feeling better. I use that time to eat anything that doesn't make me retch - mostly chicken and ginger biscuits!!
That way when I need to be ill again I have something in my stomach.

I'm going to sit on the balcony and revise today - Aberdeen due to hit 17 degrees is positively tropical!!

Bambi86 · 25/07/2012 10:21

Thanks JoJoBella84 Shieldbug FloweryBoots mandasand

I too have gone off all things sweet...I left some malteasers in the box last night - this is unheard of! Can't get enough of crisps though...!

Is anyone still exercising? I've just taken up gentle swimming and I'm really enjoying it!

Lexiindisguise · 25/07/2012 10:35

Bambi I've cut back exercising to walking but I am enjoying that - couple of 40mins in the evenings & a longer walk at the weekends! Just so tired that my normal classes at 8pm aren't happening Sad

newyearsday · 25/07/2012 10:36

Hello everyone,

I've been catching up on all your chat. It's a week or so since I posted, and feel a bit embarrassed cos I was in a right state with horrid nausea and a nasty tummy bug which lasted 6 days. Could hardly eat and felt so hideous. Then my one yr old got it and he's been really poorly. But everyone is on the mend now and the sun is shining so I'm feeling much better.

My best nausea trick is the sea bands. Really work for me, sometimes wear them at night when I've got night nausea. Drinking loads of water and eating regularly helps too.

I had my booking in appt with mw yesterday. With ds I booked a homebirth but he was b2b and I had irregular ctx so transferred in after 24hrs labour at home, and had a traumatic experience on the obs-led Delivery Suite and emcs (tho' everything went really well from that moment on!). I hate being labelled 'high risk'. I refuse to go back to the Delivery Suite and be strapped to a monitor again. I said I'd like a homebirth or mwlu. Mw's answer was 'maybe an elective c-section would be best for you'. Great. I've done a lot of reading over the last yr and can see I need to dig out all my facts n figs ready for the consultant appt at 16wks. Oh well, I'll get prepared after I've had the 1st scan. The pregnancy feels much more real now I've spent an hour with the mw!

Time to eat!

dameflamingo · 25/07/2012 10:56

Hello everyone..can I join your merry band? from our calculations we're having a March baby, have our first booking scan next Tuesday so we'll know exactly then. News was a wonderful surprise - symptoms not so wonderful as many of you know! Although I have felt utterly peaceful and happy like some sort of happy do-gooder whose geese are all swans (this is not my usual state and must be hormones) I started with all day sickness at 4 weeks and it has not abated - nothing I have tried has worked 100% so I'm just eating and drinking what I can, when I can. We tried seeking medical help after I literally had not kept a single drop of fluid or morsel of food down for 4 days but as I got pregnant under consultant care we were dismissed and referred back to the consultant - who can see us on Tuesday...funnily though after feeling utterly dismissed and quite furious I've now had three days where I have only thrown up half of what I eat and drink - such luxury- so the crossness may be beneficial and the NHS may have done me a favour!

mandasand · 25/07/2012 11:15

I'm going to catch up with everyone's news in a second, but I can't wait to share the news that we're expecting TWINS!!! Shock She scooted the ultrasound thing over one little black space with something in it around to the other side and there was another little black space with something else in it ? and she did this dramatic pause before telling us but I already knew! I'm so excited! And a bit apprehensive about how big I'm going to get! As I think I blathered on about before, I really wanted twins and somehow we managed it. I think it's because you can release more than one egg in the couple of months after you come off contraceptives.

They are dichorionic, which means they each have their own space and placenta, so are likely to have come from separate eggs; they are much more likely to be non-identical than identical. And based on sizing I'm a week further along - 8 weeks and 1 day - than the midwife predicted. This means my chances of miscarrying have gone from 20% to 2%, phew! The babies are within the normal range size-wise and their little hearts are beating at precisely the same, healthy bpm.

I also learned that in 4 months time at 28 weeks I'm going to be the equivalent of full term with 1 child. So, basically I'm not going to be able to move or go down to London to do anything in Dec or Jan. The babies will probably come in Feb! Oh dear god!!!

In a bit of a whirl. DH is a bit speechless (in a good way!)

Right, now looking forward to catching up with all your news from this morning ...

Sheldonella · 25/07/2012 11:24

Oh wow manda, that is amazing. So happy for you :)

mandasand · 25/07/2012 11:28

Hurray that your scan went well, Tay! Very good news on the blood thinners front - that doesn't sound too pleasant so fingers crossed you will not need it this time. So sweet about your DD Smile

Hey tiddley, good luck with the packing today! It's really too hot here in Oxford - hope not too bad where you are? Have you got help with the packing? Glad you're Dad's out of hospital - very soon, so he must be pleasing the doctors. What a guy!

Well done on your new post-sickness eating discovery, JoJo! Happy revising on the balcony! Smile

Bambi, I have stopped jogging as the last time I went out my body told me a firm 'No!' after about a mile. Now I've discovered I've got two little beans growing inside me and am going to be mahoosive I'm even more determined to try to keep active. I've been enjoying my prenatal pilates and yoga DVDs and yesterday I bought some of those hand held weights that you can walk with, so I'm going to make a total idiot of myself doing that fast walking thing, with weights, up and down the towpath. I may wear a hat so none recognises me!!! Ooh and there's a highly recommended Zumba Bump session on Monday mornings which I might try to get to, if I can work around it.

So glad you're feeling better and brighter, newyearsday Smile

And welcome dameflamingo! Glad your sickness seems to be getting a little bit better. Feel a bit of a fraud that I've not vomited at all, only retched once, and have only had to cope with low-level nausea. And apparently it's supposed to be worse with twins! (The things I'm learning!)

dameflamingo · 25/07/2012 11:30

manda CONGRATULATIONS!!! you sound so overjoyed and excited. WOW!

dameflamingo · 25/07/2012 11:32

Oh and I would not wish the all day vommiting on my worst enemy - so I'm pleased you've not had it.

JoJoBella84 · 25/07/2012 11:41

manda manda manda please, please, please swap bodies with me??!!!!! I want twins so badly!!!!
I can't wait for my scan now, I am just too excited for you!!

JoJoBella84 · 25/07/2012 11:49

On a more serious note manda you are temporarily in my bad books for literally making me vomit with excitement. You will be forgiven if this ginger biscuit stays down!!

kirsty80 · 25/07/2012 11:57

congratulations!!!! twins! So exciting!!! I'm so happy for you! X
