Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
panpipe · 18/07/2012 12:44

Ooh x-posts with Needles - you reminded me McBaby has the same due date as me. Now that feels weird!

Lovemarmite as someone who is planning a homebirth I'd definitely recommend it (although it hasn't happened yet so not an authority!). What sort of set-up do you have in your area for hb? Where we are there's a dedicated team of MWs just for HBs. I have met a few people who were changing plans from hospital to home well into their 30-odd weeks so I'm sure it can be done, but probably a good idea to get in touch with your MW sooner rather than later.

Whiteangel · 18/07/2012 13:01

All good with the midwife. Head 3/5 engaged (2/5 palpable). Came home to one of the cats chasing something small and furry around the lounge. Shut the cats out and eventually managed to catch it in a cardboard box and liberated it. According to google, I think it was a common shrew. Cats are not impressed at loosing their lunch! I'm too fat for rodent chasing. Good exercise though!

ontheedgeofwhatever · 18/07/2012 13:24

Glad to hear all was well with midwife Whiteangel. I'm seeing mine on Friday afternoon and hoping baby will have engaged a bit by now.

As for cats and small furry things I sympathise. Mine seems to favour small feathery things which take forever to clear up after - always finding bits of feather about the place.

MrsMigginslovespies · 18/07/2012 13:36

And another here with the not sleeping...hot, uncomfy and bizarrely stuffed up. Had a nice visit today from my soon to be health visitor who came to introduce herself. Stayed for an hour and over tea, chatted about lots of things. Was nice to meet her and DH was also able to take part.

Cracking on with the nursery and aiming to have it all finished by this time next week. Hurrah.

Also, we've inherited a nice moses basket from a friend but I don't like the twee dressings it comes with and would prefer to change them but can't really find anything. I bid on ebay for some, but lost it. Any ideas where I can just buy the hood bit and liner thing? Thanks.

How are you getting on McBaby. Thoughts are with you!

sc0ttishlass · 18/07/2012 13:38

hey all - rubbish on the lack of sleep stories (have you guys got dream genie pillows - honestly - i have found mine to be the best 'money well spent' item so far...

McBaby - good luck!

So I had my scan and appt today (35+2) which was meant to give me a plan on course of action - the placenta had still been low so this was to determine section or not - anyway, it had moved 3 mm and has 2mm still to go - so - they ahve got me back for another scan in 2 weeks, 1st August when I will be 37+2. The doctor I saw was very 'for' natural birth and not section - which i found a bit odd or wrong (as i may still need it) but given i was told by last doc i would have section or early induction, i generally now feel a bit deflated that i dont have a plan. i suppose i should just get over it and switch head on to thinking natural (unless 2 weeks time proves otherwise) but had manged to get my head around the section! DH thinks I am being ridicilous but i got stropppy and said its my body that i am getting head around what happens with.. anyways, good news is that bump and I both well.

bump STILL above the 95th centile (growing well and at a steady rate!) oh and frilly - I too have been having unbelievable amount of movement these days which I thought stopped with less room - but they said that is good - and baby just sleeping less now!

also - saw hair on the babys head in the scan which the sonographer pointed out! guess the old wives tail may be right, as i have lived on gaviscon!

so, glad i took a day off - will just chill for rest of the day - 1 week left at work after this week... finding it harder to get around and do stuff (although catch 22 as more i sit and do nothing more achey I am when i get up!).

hope all other MW appts go well today :)
xx

McBaby · 18/07/2012 13:53

He is coming back on the afternoon flight. :) let him make the decison incase it's a false alarm. Still having back and stomach pains with contractions every ten minutes. Tried a bath, food, water etc and not gone away which usually happens with braxton hicks....

warzonemummy · 18/07/2012 13:59

ishop thank you for the bra sale link. I just bought 3 of them - I am 32E (normally 30E) and since it is an odd size I usually can't find stuff in sales.

McBaby thinking of you and hope you are not totally alone.

re sleepless nights, I am not having sleepless night per se as I sleep through the nights with a couple of loo breaks. But I do wake up very alert and early. I used to sleep 8/9 hours and now I sleep 6/7 hours. I suppose this is my body's way of getting me ready for less sleep for when the baby comes.

I cannot imagine banning DH from drinking. I think he will be all dramatic through the birth and a drink or two will calm him down anyway. He is a very good drinker anyway. I have been drinking one or two small wines (ciders when the sun is out) per week. I have decided to stop in case I go into labour with alcohol in my blood and end up causing some complication.

37+4 today and can't way for it all to end and meet my baby.

ishopthereforeiam · 18/07/2012 14:13

Mcbaby did you call the mw? Don't want to panic you but think you should drop them a line to see what they say? Most likely they'll say take paracetamol, have a hot bath / shower but I'd give them a ring anyways?

Warzone glad to have been of help!

panpipe will pm you Grin

Mrsm - I think we bought dd's moses basket bits from mothercare but not sure if they do individual pieces. Are you reusing the mattress? Have been umming and ahhing but think with a disinfect it should be ok as dd's moses basket is only 2 years old and has a wipeable mattress...

Thanks love Wine

also - is anyone-else just eating ridiculous amounts?? I've been eating like a horse the last month or so. Waaaaaaay more than normal! Can't tell if it's because I'm hungry or just making the most of the pg excuse as will try and cut down a bit post baby!

OP posts:
Lovemarmite · 18/07/2012 14:17

Mcbaby glad your DP is coming home, great news and let us know how you're getting on.
I am secretly having a little 'eek' moment as our due date is only a few days after you and if LO is early, wow wee exciting but help, I've only started to think about birth plans....

panpipe thanks for your advice. You're right, I need to find out and call my support mw and see what they offer for an hb. I am either very lucky or a complete 'needy' pg lady but got assigned a support mw that comes regularly to see me at home and then I go to a local health centre to see the main mws too. Not a really joined up bunch of mws but my support mw may point me in the right direction as she's into natural births.
Just ordered the nct birthing ball as it was slightly discounted and now hoping it will come soon Smile

Have a 36 wk mw appointment tomorrow and I think LO has engaged more as my pelvis is so heavy and my bladder seems more squashed than ever. Hmm, I wonder if she'll be early or is this very normal at 36+4?

What's Herman the German cake, I remember a few recipes but must of missed this one?!

hamncheese · 18/07/2012 14:51

Ooh I have a herman too. Actually, I had herman, made him but had to keep one of the baby hermans as no-one wanted him! So now growing another with the same dilemma on friday argh!! MIL will take one and going to foist one on a guy at work who has a daughter who loves to bake, she is only 3 but it's not hard.

marmite Herman is a friendship sour dough cake. Basically someone gives you a pot of goo which is a yeasty flour dough. You grow it by adding milk sugar and flour over 10 days and then split it in 4 at the end, cook one into a cake and give 3 baby hermans to friends and they do the same. DH reckons I'm going to have a herman army soon Blush

Also herman is good just with vanilla and choc chips if anyone is baking him soon.

ishop I must have been eating a lot as in total I have now put on ... THREE STONE Shock seriously I have not weighed myself since like 24 weeks and I was totally horrified. And still 3 weeks and 3 days to go EEP :( big fat ham

Westcountrylovescheese · 18/07/2012 14:53

Ishop, yes having lost my appetite for the whole pregnancy I am suddenly eating like mad! Two breakfasts followed by huge today today.... Eek!

McBaby, wow and good luck. Keep us updated!

warzonemummy · 18/07/2012 15:03

with you on weight gain ham I am now 2.8 stones (just did a conversion online) heavier than before the baby. Most of the weight in on my hips and bump. I couldn't eat most of the pregnancy and suddenly started putting on weight like crazy despite not eating ANY sweets whatsoever and being really really good :( I hope all the weight is the baby, the trapped liquid in my fat ankles and boobs :(

Vinolover · 18/07/2012 15:48

How exciting Mcbaby! I hope your dh gets to you soon :) I am feeling very envious I have to say! Time to have another bounce on my birthing ball me thinks Wink

I sympathise Ham. I have put on about 2.5 stone which I know is a healthy weight gain but I just feel huge in myself :( And the thought of only being 3 weeks away until my due date but could possibly still have 5 weeks left if he's late fills me with dread! I'm definitely getting back on that ball!!!
It doesn't take too long to shift afterwards though :)

ffscatmove · 18/07/2012 15:49

ham & warzone that's how much I've put on too so am quite relieved I'm not the only one! Legs & arms don't seem to have changed much so can only assume it's all boobs, bump & hips.

Good luck McBaby, definitely sounds like your LO is on the way! Glad to hear your DP is on his way, I echo the bath / paracetamol / rest advice.
My due date is 2 days after yours !

hamncheese · 18/07/2012 16:10

Oh thank goodness some of you have put on similar amounts to me. Still not happy about it but at least I'm not just a singular pig. I've been told by some "its all bump" but by my Mum (who is pretty honest and not in a trying to be mean way) that I have gained a little all over which she has declared to be stores for BFing that will not be hard to shift. Please be right!!

Feeling all nesty putting portion sized tubs of home made meals in the freezer for post-baby times Grin

hamncheese · 18/07/2012 16:11

Totally didn't mean to infer anyone else with similar weight gain was a pig there!!!!! that came out very wrong. All I meant was that if we have all gained this much it seems to be acceptable, if it was just me gaining a lot more than anyone else I would think I was a pig. APOLOGIES Blush x

ishopthereforeiam · 18/07/2012 16:24

I've put on 2.7 stones... mostly bump but bum. thighs fatter and face fuller too.

I remember with pg1 being v Envy of those whose bumps disappeared q quickly as mine took a good 6 - 8 weeks due to uterus growing so huge.

Oh well - it's all for a good cause. And ham i am totes being a pig Grin

OP posts:
ontheedgeofwhatever · 18/07/2012 17:41

I've put on exactly a stone but I was HUGE before so body has plenty of reserves already - now I'm just the size of a house Grin

capecath · 18/07/2012 18:59

I've put on 2 stone, which is less than last time, and even 3 weeks further along, but prob cos I'm now running after a toddler rather than sitting at a desk! Was eating like a horse up until the last fortnight or so, where my appetite has really slowed down. Perhaps have more energy from iron supplements? or baby is pushing against every organ in my body (feels like it) including tummy??!

NeedlesCuties · 18/07/2012 19:06

Just got a phonecall from DH. Turns out he isn't entitled to paternity leave due to not having been employed in that place for long enough :(

His boss gave him two options: 1) don't take any leave and just work as normal Hmm
2) use the rest of his annual leave & some unpaid leave.

So he chose option 2, which means no more annual leave till 2013. Meh!!

Just wanted a little moan: MOAN.

susiegrapevine · 18/07/2012 19:48

ontheedge I 2nd that only gained a stone but was big to begin with tho a little disapointed cos only gain 6lbs with ds but was even bigger to start with then so I suppose its all relative.

ishop had the moses basket mattress debate a week ago and looked on sids site which says its fine to use the mattress again as long as it was your own baby that used it 1st and it has a totally waterproof outside with no spilts or holes so you should be fine to use yours again from 2yrs ago am using mine from 2yrs ago again as is all of the above.

Had a disater last night was making people from coloured clay stuff for a cake my mum is doing, took me 2-3 hrs put them in the oven to bake for the alloted time. Went out to the kitchen to check them before the time was up and they had burnt had black faces and noses and hair it looked like they were chimeney sweeps!! So after a lot of f'ing and blinding as I did not have enough clay to remake them I decided this morn I did have enough but not enough of the flesh colour which I know they had in stock in a local shop luckily cos had order the rest off e-bay and no time to order more as cake is for friday! Very stressful!!

Anyway is anyone else's belly button still an inny mine is and am very proud of this. Was my pregnancy positive!

Woke up last night feeling all hot and sick for some mad reason as well so am in the insomnia club as took ages to get to sleep after my disaster!

The3Bears · 18/07/2012 20:25

susie my belly button is still an inny just very stretched Grin

Well had my midwife appt and she had a good feel for baby and said he felt head down so I was v happy, so she checked hb and it was much louder and clearer again near the top so she's sent me for a scan on the 27th Shock to see which way he is, very dissapointed now as over a weeks wait again to find out whats going on and just want to know one way or another I will be 37+6 then so seems a little too late to do anything if he is breech still. Just wish I could know sooner feeling v down about it all :( everything else was fine so thats good and measured 35cm Grin

Feeling so uncomfortable now walking alot and just in general, very Envy of people having there baby soon still feels a way of for me and seems to be dragging abit now, just want to have baby now! :)

Sorry about your dh not being able to have paternity leave needles must be so frustrating for you have a moan all you like.

Ham I havent weighed myself too scared to anyway but fed up of people commenting on size of bump though. Angry

Good luck mcbaby how exciting!!!

PictureThis · 18/07/2012 20:28

Mine's still an innie which I'm a bit disappointed about if I'm honest. As for weight gain, I'm making like an ostrich on this one and not even thinking about it. DH has just informed me that he spent almost an hour today cleaning up the pram base that he's had stored at his workshop due to the amount of (saw)dust that had collected on it. It's only been there a couple of months as he moved it when he was tidying up the loft. Who tidies up a loft FFS???? I didn't even know he'd moved it and I'm not quite sure what he was thinking as it's not like we weren't going to need it soon. Now the ski equipment on the other hand....

quickchat · 18/07/2012 20:49

Arghhhh stop talking so fast you lot. Ive sat here for ages trying to read all the posts and thinking, oh I will answer that, acknowledge that and now it's all gone!

from what I can remember - Bye baby, congratulations, lovely names.

frillylemons pleeeeease tell me what your sister had? Boy or girl? Name? Just trying to steal some.

Im at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Im not sure who is referring to Edinburgh and who is referring to Glasgow.

Someone asked how old my DD is, think it was ishop. She is 2.5.

Ive actually had two nights of sleep with only one Pee break. I put it down to leaving my patio doors in bedroom open. It's upstairs and probably not the most secure way to sleep but boy has it helped. Fresh air, get as much in the room as possible - along with 50 Daddy long legs!

Ive not weighed myself at all this time. Mainly due to not getting round to getting new scales.

Im in size 12 maternity. Not too bad but I take an age to loose after birth.

Was in hospital last night. During the day I was in agony down right side. Kept stopping in the street, was like a severely pulled muscle but it was taking my breath away and I couldn't take another step. Friend had to go and get my car which id parked less than a mile away Blush.

I was driving home in tears so I pulled into doc surgery and told them I thought id pulled something but they seemed to suspect labour Hmm. I KNEW it wasn't and did tell them that 50 times. I am becoming a bit of an expert Wink but they insisted I went to ERI.

Had to get babysitter from Edinburgh to my home just outside North Berwick (40 mins) to come to me then DH and I drove to ERI.

2.5 hours and one horrible internal later, they suspected I had pulled something!! Oh well, practice run - check.

Actually im sitting here now doing nothing and it is pretty painful - anyone else had this?

Oh, they didn't find any glucose in my urine - yey. Still have to do diabetic test though Sad but positive to hear.
Ive really stuck to a low GI diet and I think I will carry it on whatever they say.

Would be a good incentive to eat healthier and maybe even loose weight faster after birth.
I have to say, I do feel I have more energy now too. First few days made me cranky but feel fine now.
Mum and Stepdad came for lunch today and everyone had yummy looking cake and I didn't. Last week that would have taken major will power and possibly hurt a little Smile but it didn't bother me one bit.
Also, made gingerbread men with the kids and melted chocolate, and made icing and left them to decorate at the table. I did not even lick one chocolatey spoon or anything. Oops, sorry my halo just slipped Grin.

Still anemic and the tablets are still........have to run to the loo.......

eightieshopaholic · 18/07/2012 20:51

Had my scan today he is 7IB so not quite the 8 they were expecting but they are still happy for me to go 10 days over 36+3 today so I will be having an elephant lol!!!

Asked about head engaged and said not measuring that nots jeust say head down??

thinking might try all the old wifes tales from this weekend as 37 wks then to see if can bring on a bit quicker!!

Had good news today little brother can get back from USA coming next wed till 15th August due 12th so hope little one's here before he goes home.
