Caz so sorry. Big hugs. See how you feel though the break away may do you good. Just take time and don't rush any decisions. There's not much you can do once the funeral arrangements are in place and getting away can just help order your thoughts. On the other hand, some people like to be surrounded by family, talk things through and remember the person in their own environment.

As I said, take your time, there is no right or wrong answer. Just do what's right for you and dh.

Bluetinkerbell · 09/07/2012 21:34

Cacacaz so sorry for your loss! take care of yourself and your DH and his family!

FatimaLovesBread · 09/07/2012 21:35

cacacaz such sad news - really sorry. Horseylady is right. Just do what feels right for you both. Thinking of you. x

Lilliana · 10/07/2012 07:13

So sorry Cacacaz Take care of yourself and DH. There is no right or wrong so see how you feel about Paris.

Hopefully our pram should arrive today. Am looking forward to seeing it at home and hoping that we like the colour as haven't seen it properly in red.

I think I'll be finishing work at 38 weeks (which will actually be 37 weeks as the next week is half term) does that sound too late? I guess if I can't keep going I can always leave early? Not really sure how it works, I really need to do some reading!

Dixiebell · 10/07/2012 07:25

lilliana, I don't think it sounds too late. I worked till 37 weeks last time. DS ended up being a week late so had 4 weeks rest and actually got a bit bored towards end! Will prob do similar this time round although now I have DS, I reckon I'll appreciate the time off more!

DesperateHousewife21 · 10/07/2012 07:31

caz so sorry to hear your news.

dixie congrats on your baby boy. I had a low lying placenta with ds, had a scan at 36 weeks and it had moved up so I'm sure you'll be ok.

I'm going to bluewater today for some serious mat clothes shopping. In sick of everything I have and it's not true you can just get a size bigger that doesn't seem to work!

CandyPop · 10/07/2012 08:23

lilliana I'm working till 3 days short of our due date. Basically finishing on 31st October .... Then again this is my first as well so not sure if that's unrealistic but my thoughts are that gives us two weeks for baby to come early or if it's late potentially a whole month sitting at home !

Iheartpasties · 10/07/2012 08:28

Sorry to hear the sad news cacacaz

mrswee thank you for mentioning about your dd with her eczema, it does help to hear we are doing the right things, I was feeling helpless before we saw the doctor but feeling much more sure what to do now. I felt sad that we had let her down somehow, parental guilt!!

mrsmummy1 I just dont think they like to do eye tests for pregnant women as your eyes can be affected and then you might end up with the incorrect prescription, you have to wait until 3 months after the baby is born (as someone else already said, sorry just rambling a bit now).

I had a lovely get together today with my antenatal girls, we did antenatal classes together in Jan 2011, and we still get together once a week. It was nice to sit in the sun today and catch up :)

Iheartpasties · 10/07/2012 08:31

I also hate nearly everything in terms of clothing, I'd love to splurge on some jeans that fit properly, I was eying some up on ebay last night but then I just felt that maybe i was being too extravigant. Maybe I'll get some next week. My DH gets paid weekly so we sort of stick to a weekly budget, I did spend a bit today getting lunch out with the girls. I'm also hoping to buy some material tomorrow, to sew a comforter for this new baby. or maybe a taggy blanket, or maybe both :)

Iheartpasties · 10/07/2012 08:36

I meant to say 'i hate everything I own in terms of clothing'

Chunkychicken · 10/07/2012 09:14

Lilliana with my DD I worked to the beginning of the Easter hols (1st April, nearly 37wks) and technically only started my maternity leave on the 19th April. DD was happily born on 21st, so I could take the full yr (although I actually went back the last wk of term, 2 wks before DD's 1st birthday, so I got paid for the hols again!). I felt absolutely knackered! But I was fit & well generally, had an easy pregnancy & hadn't even had swollen ankles until fairly late on (after working all day & walking around Bluewater with the girls, having had pizza hut dinner, that evening. I figured it was well-earned swollen ankles!! :) ) I wouldn't have wanted to work much later, but equally I was lucky with DD's timing, yet I didn't want to lose time off afterwards, so didn't want to stop too soon. It's hard as a teacher because you don't get annual leave, so if you stop before a holiday, you start maternity leave there & then, but at the holidays, you get x wks break first...

This time the half term break (we get 2 wks) starts just before I'm 36wks, so effectively a wk earlier than with DD. I am happy to stop then as I think I'll be ready, what with looking after DD etc. Plus, I don't want to start the new term at 38wks pg!! I'm also hoping to have a fairly reasonable timetable so I can have time to get my responsibility work done & have a proper hand-over to my cover. If I get ill, I'll have to finish earlier but my HOD is fairly realistic and accommodating about this fact too, so we'll see...

Hi kissyfur we've got the same due date. :)

Cacacaz so sorry for your loss. Best wishes to you & your family.

Iheart I too am struggling a bit. Some of my 'normal' clothes still fit but I'm out of my bigger jeans & on the maternity ones I HATE. They make me feel achey and sore around my hips/pelvis, like I'm working against them (imaging having an elastic band holding you back). Tempted to buy more jeans. Bought a load of cheap maternity t-shirts in various colours, from Matalan. But they are too big. Except I didn't realise it until I'd taken the labels off and washed them as I bought them when I wasn't that pg and couldn't predict how much bigger I'd get :( They are too big in weird places, so look odd, but its all I've got really (apart from a couple of tops a friend gave me & my more wintry stuff from DD). I'm pregnant, not ill or fat or ugly. So why can't I just wear some nice clothes??!! I don't think its unreasonable... So I sympathise.Grin

DH good luck shopping. I've been disappointed with Bluewater, as nowhere seems to have a maternity section worth looking at, but hopefully you'll be lucky. I def think you look less frumpy if you wear 'bump' clothes, not just bigger ones!

I'll be just round the corner from Bluewater for my scan today...

applepieinthesky · 10/07/2012 09:46

Congrats dixie

Cacacaz There is nothing wrong with still going to Paris if your DP is up to it. Or if he would prefer to be close to other family members is there a possibility of pushing it back until after the funeral?

Done more baby shopping last night. Got home and DP had bought a proper mini football kit for the baby complete with shorts and socks. Then went out and bought a fleece jacket with hood and a massive white wooden photo frame. I want to put lots of photos of DP's family on the wall in the nursery because they live so far away and the baby won't get to see them much. I thought that way we can talk to him about them and he will know who they all are.

ValiumQueen · 10/07/2012 09:50

I went into M&S yesterday to buy some mat knickers, and they do not sell them! I was not impressed. They said everyone just buys bigger full pants. I have just been to Asda and bought some bigger full pants as M&S are not worthy of my custom!

I have also given in and bought a couple of non wired bras. Just sport ones as they worked well last time.

Still in my normal clothes as I lost weight initially. Still not back to my pre-pg weight. Not far off though, as being far from good food wise.

Gradually getting my head around having a boy. I will be sorting out DD2's clothes and taking them to charity shop or selling on eBay. I have about six nappy boxes full of boy clothes anyway, as I love charity shops, and buy bargains as I see them. We did not know gender of DC2, so I was being prepared for both outcomes, and had not got around to selling them after she was born. All lovely stuff, next, gap, looks like new. Will dig them out later.

Most of the girls clothes have been second hand when I got them, so they do not owe me anything.

I am already on annual leave prior to Mat leave at 29 weeks. Glad to be away from the stress, saving a fortune on child care during holidays, and absolutely loving being a full time mum to my girls. Wish I could be a SAHM.

ValiumQueen · 10/07/2012 09:55

cacacaz what a shock! Do take care x difficult to know what is best about the holiday. I think I would encourage DH to do what he needs to do in relation to this. my FIL died suddenly before our wedding, and it was hard to know what to do. We went ahead with it, and also made a part of it a celebration of his life. Thinking of you x

daisychain76 · 10/07/2012 10:16

So sorry to hear such sad news cacacaz - my DH's gran passed away when we were expecting DD and I think it made it a real time of mixed emotions for his family, but I do think having a new arrival to look forward to/newborn to fuss over definitely gave something positive to focus on. We gave DD DH's grans name as her middle name too, so she would also be a part of DD's life.

I am finishing one job on 1st Nov for maternity leave (due on 10th) then doing other job and phd right up to the day I go into labour, but I have realised that half term falls in my 39th week so I am either going to be heavily pregnant, minding my 2 DCs and trying to work, or trying to occupy 2 DCs with a newborn too. Just the thought of it is making me tired!

applepieinthesky · 10/07/2012 11:23

Just to let you know GAP have got a sale on their website. 25% off new lines today only including maternity clothes. You need to enter 'WEARNOW' at checkout.

kissyfur · 10/07/2012 11:30

Cacacaz - sorry to hear your sad news

Hi chunkychicken Smile

Iheart I am with you on the clothes front, have some mat clothes from my last pg but they don't fit as well this time and friends have loaned me some but most of them are too big. Really annoyed that most shops don't stock mat clothes anymore! Only place near me that has any are new look and debenhams and choice is v limited. Not feeling blooming at all this time around. Doesn't help that people keep commenting on the size of my bump, why do people do that!?Angry yes its quite big but I do have a little person growing inside me! Sorry rant over Wink

capedcrusader25 · 10/07/2012 13:12

cacacaz thinking of you both. It gets no easier as we get older to lose a grandparent (as some people suggested to me when my nan died :() I'm finishing work at 35 weeks. We have an 8 week half term to start off and I think that will just be too much for me, so planning on leaving mid october. I'm not a teacher but a child protection officer so things get very intense and pressured.

WaitingForMe · 10/07/2012 13:39

I just ordered a few things from LaRedoute. Tiny range but some very pretty stuff. Also bought baby's first clothes; a top and trousers set and a coat with boots and gloves. Everything else will be supermarket though!

DH think he felt him kick last night and just now he jumped or hiccuped or something, made me jump as well Grin

Cacacaz · 10/07/2012 14:06

I don't think it really matters how old you are when you lose someone close capedcrusader whether it is a long term illness (like my grandparents) or suddenly, the grief is still overwhelming.

We are being encouraged, by family, to go on our break and DH is now more swayed towards going, I don't want him to feel pressurised into something he isn't comfortable with and have said that he should do what feels right for him. The funeral hasn't been arranged yet and is dependant on some family being able to organise flights from overseas, so most likely towards the end of next week. I need to try to find some maternity wear suitable for the funeral, which is a nightmare as will probably need to order something online, in the hope it is a) suitable and b) fits well. All suggestions welcome.

daisychain that is a lovely sentiment, if we have a girl it is definitely something I would like to do.

Re maternity leave my job is quite challenging physically, so current thinking is I will work until 36 weeks. I need to get a MATB1 form, just realised the stand in midwife I saw last week never mentioned it and I don't have another appointment until 28 weeks. I have 2 jobs so unsure if I need a MATB1 form for both.

Chunkychicken · 10/07/2012 14:12

Scan went well. Still team yellow. Felt a bit awkwardly positioned so couldn't see it in as much detail as I would have liked, but baby was positioned fine, all the measurements were possible, so I can't complain. Plus, as I apparently have a low lying placenta (seems to be quite common, & quite a few on here at least) will get to see baby again at 34wks. Have just looked in my pg book, and apparently less than 1% of placentas are low at 32+wks, so there's a good chance that it'll be fine. Also, don't think there was any obstruction of OS, so assume a CS is not an automatic, but slightly apprehensive that this rules out my homebirth plans. At least baby seems to be well though. :)

YellowWellies · 10/07/2012 14:20

Caz Gap have some nice smart black maternity dresses (use the code above to get 25% off) which would be fine for a funeral. Check out their maternity wear and the dresses section.

applepieinthesky · 10/07/2012 15:30

Does anyone know what Gap's sizing is like for trousers? I am usually a 12 but in H&M for example I have to order a size or two up because their sizes are really small.
