MakeTeaNotWar · 01/08/2012 11:27

haha I also ordered some stuff from Zulily - the Galt playnest and peep o puppets! What dress did you get funchum ?

TinkerMaloo · 01/08/2012 11:32

MakeTea I just went for the size I'm wearing now (from Debenhams own make) I figured that if the Hotmilk ones are about the same size, then even though they wont fit me at first, once my boobs settle down they should be ok, and if the sizing is slightly larger they will fit from the start!? (if its smaller I'm screwed but will sell the set instead on ebay!)

As for stretch marks... with my first I thought I had mostly got away with it but at about week 37/38 my skin just split in so many places :( all round my bumb, my hips, my thighs, boobs... everywhere! But it is worth it and at least subsequent babies arent making them worse (not sure that that would be possible though!)

I wanted to watch midwives but had to sleep and forgot to sky+ is it similar to one born?

Bakeroo I never did the pereneal massage... Its just a bit too weird! Im not sure you need it as long as you have an active labour and take your time crowning?

hello all iv been to mw this morning all well correct for dates (33+4) had to take ds(6) with me, dd at nursery, he liked hearing the heartbeat then we went to a play picnic for four hours which actually meant me standing most of that time so I'm exhausted now but happy Wink x

pgreen · 01/08/2012 16:55

cant believe we''re in the final countdown. Been putting together the bag - thanks to everyone sharing what was needed.

Crampy legs like many and really really achy joints, hands, wrists, knees, ankles etc. Yikes. I have plenty of spider veins already and I guess the stretch marks are the next thing. Saw my Mum today who tells me I'm a lot bigger than 10 days ago.... thought so....

Rusulka · 01/08/2012 18:39

Hey ladies,

I'm due in 4 weeks! Eep! Been having braxton hicks the last 2 days, but regular ones getting closer together, so I'm making an effort now to get last minute things done as it seems like Peanut will be here sooner rather than later!

Had my 36 week growth scan yesterday and they think she weighs 6lb 13oz- about 10oz more than expected, but still within normal range. Although if I do go another 4 weeks she'll weigh about 9lb! I thought she was going to be small... Oh well.
Got to see her face and chubby little cheeks, DH said she winked at him, lol.

On the stretchmark front, I'm already covered in loads from years of overeating, but the few I have on my stomach I notice have red tips at the top, and I think I have some under my bellybutton.
Really want to try the perineal massage as I don't want an episiotomy if I can help it, but I too find it uncomfortable, mainly because my arms are too short to reach... am going to try again though.

funchum8am · 01/08/2012 19:08

I got the purple wrap dress since it's for both pregnancy and breastfeeding and it's just dawned on me that I can't just wait for the baby to arrive and THEN buy clothes that I can breastfeed in (well, I can, but I'll likely regret it since I will have to go shopping with the baby and with no suitable top!) It's only £26 and looks lovely so hopefully will prove a great buy. Thanks again for the tip tinker!

My DH just spotted my first stretch mark...under the bump just as happened to my friends...GRRR!

Rachel130690 · 01/08/2012 19:12

I'm gonna check that website out now, seems like everyone's getting some good stuff from it :)

Been moving house all day. Been up since half 8 this morning, haven't done much lifting but def feel like I've overdone it :( legs are achy and my back is broke. Could climb into bed right now.

However we have no bed yet as I'm waiting for helpers to take it apart at old house and put together at new house.. It's gonna be a tough few days. Though I think I'll have a nice bath tonight (after I give it a quick clean) just to relax me a bit. Might make me less achy.

Welcome all newcomers, hope everything is going well for you..

Can't believe I'll be having a baby next month, scary how close it's got. But very excited. :)

Xx

twizzlestix · 01/08/2012 22:44

Be careful rachel I pulled a muscle in my stomach this week! It blooming hurts! Bet you'll be glad when you're all unpacked! It'll certainly fill your mat. Leave time :)

TinkerMaloo · 02/08/2012 13:49

There are 2 full moons this month.. a month with two of them neans the second one is an actual 'blue moon'! and is on the 31st....

I've heard that more people go into labour during a full moon... Wonder if it will affect some of us!?

My boss sent me home at lunchtime because I am so tired, but can't sleep so am lying on the sofa watching the judo. Feels very lazy though...

Also I am hungry all the time, and want to eat everything!!

shellybop · 02/08/2012 15:38

hi all, not posted for a while, but had a quick read through now. Hope everyones well. I'm dreading the stretch marks - i too think i'll get mine sometime between now and a few weeks after the birth. None yet though, so fingers crossed.

Just ordered the nursery furniture today (about time!) and now can't wait for it to arrive and to set up baby's little room. Dh has painted a picture to go on the wall and we have some lovely sunny yellow curtains to brighten it up.

Was struggling this morning with itchy right boob and not able to scratch as was at work in the middle of the laboratory. Finally managed to have a 'furtle' while my male colleague was occupied looking down the microscope.....and found a bit of bagel in my bra (had bagel for brekkie)!! No further itching once bagel was removed!

Love it when a problem is easily solved.....

CluelessMama · 02/08/2012 16:22

Hi all, hope this finds you well.
Shellybop your bagel story made me smile!
Regarding other posts, yes to cramp in calves at night, stretch marks not yet fingers crossed, hospital bag not packed, some things bought, more to do.
Apologies for the rant that is about to follow, but need to get it off my chest!!
I live in a rural town with a midwifery led unit. The midwives I have met have just been fantastic, and provide a much better level of ante-natal care than many of my friends in other areas seem to have received. Babies can be delivered at the unit, but as there are no drs there and it is considered a 2 hr transfer by ambulance to a larger hospital if a higher level of care is needed during labour, most people opt to travel to a larger hospital to deliver. We can be at the general hospital in less than an hour by car early in labour, which is preferable to transferring later if there are concerns aboout how things are going. However, if all goes well, mum and baby can be released quite soon afterwards back to the midwifery unit for after care, with the benefits that it is quiet, closer to home for visitors, care is provided by midwives that you know and you tend to get to stay longer to check that you are recovering well from labour and coping with baby.
I'm of the view that I'm not going to have a very detailed birth plan as I don't know what to expect and want to see how things progress, so the only thing that was planned was to deliver at general hospital, with recovery at midwifery unit...until I found out this morning that the midwifery unit has been closed. Staff were given less than 24hrs notice before the closure came into effect yesterday. I'm really disappointed. The care I now get, the length of time I'm in hospital etc. will be very much in line with what most of you will experience I'm sure, and I have no doubt it will be fine in the end. It's just that it's completely knocked my view of how life with my newborn will begin, and less than 8 weeks to my due date I'll just have to get my head round it. Gutted for the staff who will be distraught. Time to adjust my thinking and look for some positives...it will all be fine!!

WinterMymble · 02/08/2012 19:40

smallgreenone i am glued to the olympics too! Especially the swimming somehow. Lovely to just gaze vacantly at all the blue....

Blissfully started maternity leave on monday, though i still have a lot of work and writing to do ... Have to submit another book chapter before babyzooms over the horizon, but instead i seem to be spending a lot of time washing the front door and ironing sofa throws! - very uncharacteristic, since i never do housework. I guess this might be nesting!

I am 35+2 today and do finally have a hospital bag (mostly) packed. Lots still to prepare though :). Amazing to think that in just 12 days baby will technically have reached 'full term' and the 37 week window. Wow!

tinkermaloo i herd that about the full oon too... Interesting to heR that 31st August will be one. I heard that some midwife units even have xtra staff over full moon periods, and there were actual serious studies done into it since it was so commonly reported (the studies were inconclusive but hey, might work!). 31st would be 5 days befor my due dqte so i suspect i wont be benefitting from it though!

I kove your bagel story shelly

cluelessmama that is bleak! What a shame they shut down a really good unit like that, and i can understand how ot would aort of throw you at this stage. I hope the midwivea at the hospital are lovely and turn out to be a consolation. Sympathies!

Rachel130690 · 02/08/2012 21:12

clueless thats awful, those poor midwives just being given 24 hour notice is appalling. Sorry it's ruined your birth plans, hopefully staff at hospital will be just as good.

Very funny story re: the bagel, made me smile aswell :)

So the house move is going well, have gone through all baby clothes and put them into piles according to ages. Now just to go through all and decide what we keeping and wash them all.

Have a lot still to do but I'm taking my time and getting plenty of help. Had to go take all the frilly curtains down today :) clean shattered and couldnt have my bath as we couldn't figure out how to turn hot water on. And there's very little oil.

Got my Mw appointment tomorrow I shall be 35 + 4 days, was measuring small at last app so will be interesting to see how it's going now.

Oh I never heard the full moon thing before, it'll maybe help me and my sister out a bit. 2nd one is only a couple of days before due date so fingers crossed it brings me on :)

Minimmusicmum · 02/08/2012 21:32

Hi Ladies,
I've just stumbled across this thread and it's so good to see that there are others in the same boat as me. This is my second pregnancy ( my DD was another Sept baby..... I do enjoy christmas! ) and I was neat and had a lovely pregnancy last time... this time I've been ill all the way through, very uncomfy... have had almost every side effect going ( the most recent being an awful scratching sensation on my cervix.... ouch!!! ) BUUUTTT
Because It's my second, I know all the wonderful things coming and that it's all worth it!
I know I'm having a boy this time..... hubby and I can't agree on names....
AND, pickles.... Labour really isn't as bad as folk say......
OK, so labour's can be complicated and difficult, but if you're lucky enought to have a complication free birth it can catually be an amazing experience....

really! OK I sound like a nut, had a great, quick, calm birth.... practiced hypnobirthing, am sure that helped.

Saying that, I'm not expecting such a wonderful birth this time after such a hellish pregnancy, I've been on my every expanding arse for months and have no energy.

Laydee Gagoo, you won't have the biggst bump, people keep taking great deight in telling mr how "Huge I've got" and that I'm "unrecognisable".... yeah! Thanks!

RAchel, what size mattress dp you need? hubby bought the wrong size one last time nd with one thing or another we never took it back.
Loopy has another bean.... I love the merino wool wraps, will look into the bag x

ANYWAY
I'll stop tapping like the crazy, hormonal walrus that I am

:D

WhereAreMyShoes · 02/08/2012 22:46

So that's my last day of work over!
I got lots if lovely presents and managed not to strangle my replacement. (She's completely clueless and will muck everything up)
Midwife told me baby has turned and she's now head down. Yay!

I've started time get calf cramp in bed but always manage to fight it off before it really takes hold by turning my toes up really hard.

Stretch marks: I had them terribly with my last pregnancy and thought my world had ended. They covered my whole stomach up to belly button level and then a big one going up from my belly button piercing.
They had faded so much by the time I got pregnant that I was almost accepting of them.
This time, they haven't really done much. Just a little red above the old ones, as if they've got very slightly longer.

I've not bothered with Bio-oil as it didn't work last time. Although it seemed to tighten the skin after I gave birth, so I'll use it afterwards.
I've been using a support belt for my back and pelvis and think it's helped with them as my bump hasn't had to hold itself up all the time.

My son is well worth sacrificing smooth skin (on a not very flat tummy) so don't mind if my daughter adds to the scars of service!

cakeladyc · 03/08/2012 08:25

Well ladies, the full moon seems to have worked here! 34 weeks today, and waters broke at 5am so am in a delivery room having regular contractions! Bit scared but doing ok, kiddo is fine, just waiting really! eeek!! We're so underprepared at home!

Loopyhasanotherbean · 03/08/2012 08:44

good luck cakeladyc i did wonder how long before someone popped, as there were a few early deliveries on the thread i was on when having DS! 34 weeks is fine, when i had DS, a woman was opposite me having a ELCS for her twins at 35 weeks, and she went home before we did! hope its an easy birth, will check in for details later! do you know what you are having or were you on team surprise?

MakeTeaNotWar · 03/08/2012 08:56

Good luck cakelady - that's really exciting but also mildly terrifying, I don't have any newborn clothes washed and ready, they are all in black sacks in the loft. Relax, breathe - can't wait to hear your news!

Feeling grumpy this morning, I know we've all had unwanted personal comments regarding our bumps and I feel a bit deflated by what's just happened....popped into Waitrose before work and there's a young Dad queuing behind me with a toddler. Dad is telling the little boy that he started off in his Mummy's tummy and was pointing at me so I turn around, smile and we engage in chitchat. Dad says I must be very close now - I say still 8 weeks to go at which he does pantomime grimace and says "ouch epidural then!" (planning a homebirth as it happens). With this the cashier joins in and says the predictable "wow you're very big, is there two in there?". I say no just the one, she looks terribly worried so I just smile again and walk away purple in the face. Yes I'm being over sensitive and they were just making small talk but I just feel mortified being discussed like that. I'm a second-timer so know what pushing out a baby without an epidural feels like but they could really scare a first-timer Sad

pgreen · 03/08/2012 10:41

wowow Good luck cakelady thinking of you!

....whilst I sweat like piglet today and can barely type as my hands and wrists are so so sore & my ankles arghhhh.....

TinkerMaloo · 03/08/2012 12:06

good luck cakelady!!!

Oh cakelady I'm so excited here for you, hope everything goes well and let us all no asap..

Just back from Mw appointment, everything's going good here, plenty of fluid, got a scan as well, head measuring 34 weeks and stomach measuring 32/33 weeks so expecting a small baby. But we seem his wee bits so has put my mind at rest. I'm so excited now, :)

minimmusic we need two but only know the measurement of the cot bed which is 169 x 69.. But hoping a 170 x 70 will fit. Getting our crib in few weeks from a friend but I'm not sure what mattress we will need.
