Yay trouble being able to ear! Can you taste now too?

Your night sounded good davina. Poor feet though, I don't wear heels any more, usually just wear boots now.

Yucky about no sleep Bun. I hope today's been relaxing for you? Do you know what's keeping you up?

My sleeping has improved although I don't know if it's just coz it's the weekend and DP has been about. I hope tonight is ok.

Violet's been discharged from the community midwives now. She put on 10oz since Monday and is now just shy of 9lbs. I'm so pleased with her and also giving myself a pat on the back. The efforts with her feeding have paid off Smile The midwife also said we shouldn't feel forced to ditch the shields. They obviously work for us and are not affecting my milk supply so if we need them to just carry on. She said she'd expect to see me in 2 years time for bubba %232. I said I hoped so although I couldn't go through a delivery like that again. She said it wouldn't be the same. I was so close to crying right there and then! Felt really sad saying bye to her coz she's been so great for me and Violet.

Violet's been a real angel actually for the last few days, I hope she stays like it with DP at work Grin.

McKayz sending prayers for Aillidh x

TroubleAndFyfe · 01/07/2012 19:53

Haha, would be impressed if you could mange baby number 232 in two years! Grin

TroubleAndFyfe · 01/07/2012 19:53

Can taste a bit better and can smell a tiny bit!

foolserrand · 02/07/2012 09:02

Hurrah for the senses! You don't know how important they are until they're gone, do you Trouble!

Mamma, all births really are different. Ds ended up with me having a panic attack and going in an ambulance to the hospital with an epidural. Flissy was a water birth with no intervention. I tore with ds, not her even though she was bigger. Thrilled feeding is going well for you now and glad Violet is being a good baby.

Bun, so sorry you're not sleeping. What do you think is keeping you awake?

McKayz, I've been thinking about A a lot, is she doing any better? I really hope she pulls through.

Um.... I'm forgetting lots, sorry. I haven't been allowed much sleep since madam got strong enough to un-swaddle herself. Have literally just found she settles with her musical bunny though. Huzzah! She seems to have regressed a bit at 9 weeks. Most frustrating. We think she might have started teething, poor lamb.

Not much else new here. Am starting the 30 day shred tomorrow to help with shifting the biscuits.... and ice cream..... and cakes.

Oh, sling ladies, when did you swap to forward facing? Think she has the head control now, but she still mostly sleeps when in the sling so am arguing with myself.

ghosteditor · 02/07/2012 09:34

Hey fools, I share your sleep deprivedness, we're really struggling at the moment Sad.

Sling wise, we did some forward facing at about ten weeks, but she was still falling asleep so much that I used parent facing a lot. She now sort of cranes her neck and arms around to peer out from one side.

I do still use parent facing often in case she sleeps. It's also much better for her back, hips and legs to curl around my belly rather than be pushed out by it. And the sling works better pester facing I think! I'm getting a ring sling for the house and times when she'll be in/out and may get a woven wrap for back wearing at some stage Grin.

foolserrand · 02/07/2012 10:20

I've still got a stretchy wrap. Am looking into getting more though, so glad I haven't bothered with a buggy. What's the ring sling like? Had a hip seat for ds but she's definitely not there yet!

Good point about wrapping her around the tummy!

McKayz · 02/07/2012 10:40

Fools A is pretty bad. She's a bit better today though.

I haven't used my sling. I think I am too fat for it as I can't tie it Sad

DH might be home on Friday. So I am hoping it rains Thursday so sports day is postponed until next week.

MammaInTheMaking · 02/07/2012 11:14

So exciting thy DH is almost home mck. He's going to meet his little girl! Grin

Yep fools I know labours will most likely be different. Thanks for telling me how it was for your kids. Just still feels raw. The midwife said they could do a debrief with me to explain why things went as they did. I will consider it. But what scares me is just the pushing stage, not even the intervention. The pushing was so primal and out of my control it just plays on my mind. I spoke to DP about my thoughts for the first time at the weekend. He knows where my anxieties are coming from because he knows how I need to be in control (eg I'm T-total, one reason for it being the loss of control).

We bought a swing seat at the weekend. It's been semi-successful so far...Confused

AnchorBun · 02/07/2012 11:51

Hi all.

Sleep is still rubbish Saturday night was killer insomnia, no idea the root of it tbh, have suffered on and off for a few years. Usually it's stress related but can't say I'm particularly stressed at the moment - a bit of 'argh the wedding's getting close!' anxiety but nothing bad Confused
Last night it was another bad night but that's down to me still feeling ill and Lilly didn't have the best of nights, she's been stirring loads in her sleep the past few nights and last night was really bad, like she was having nightmares Sad

Mamma I completely know where you're coming from re the pushing stage! Did you read my birth rant story a few posts back? I had exactly the same, it is scary losing control of your body like that isn't it isn't it? With Lilly's birth I really tried taking control of the pushes more (with a hell of a lot of mental preparation during the pregnancy) and managed it for a couple but then the pain from Lilly being back to back got too much and I just had to focus on G&A, so there might be some hope...
Maybe start a thread on MN and see what people have to say?

OOH! Live Lilly Update - she literally just rolled from back to tummy for the first time! Exciting no? Grin

McKayz · 02/07/2012 12:17

Here is my birth story. It really is a complete ramble though. Sorry.

I woke up at about 4am and went to the toilet. I had a show and thought that things might be starting as I had bad backache. I decided to get the front room ready with the taurpaulin down and the pool inflated.

I rang my Mum to get her to take DS1 to school. I filled the pool and put my swimming cossie on just so I could relax in there for a bit to help my back ache.
I was having occasional contractions on and off all day, every time I thought they were ramping up they stopped again.

DS1 came home and the boys had their dinner and went to bed about 7pm. Contractions were still very irregular so I thought it would probably be another sleepless night. I settled down to watch the England game.

At about 9pm I thought that the contractions were getting more regular, maybe 2 every 10 minutes. They were getting more and more painful so I decided to ring the midwife at about 10:15 and also rang my Mum to come round.

Contractions were now about 3-4 in 10 minutes and at 11pm I was 4cm and got lovely G&A. The MW decided to ring the other MW to come and also I had a student MW there so 3 in all. Once they arrived I was able to get into the pool which was about midnight.

The pool was amazing, they still hurt but not as bad. The contractions now seemed to be coming every 30 seconds or so. The MWs left it all up to me when I wanted to push, no attempts to exam me once I was in the pool.

I got the urge to push and it took about 5 pushes for DD to be born. One of the MWs helped me get her to bring her up to the surface. We sat in the pool for about 10 minutes. I had orginally wanted to wait for the cord to stop pulsating but I really wanted to get out of the pool, so they cut the cord and I got out and had the injection to get the placenta to come out. She was born at 1:08am. I didn't tear or anything which is nice after tearing with both boys.

While I delivered the placenta DD was weighed and was 9lb 6.5oz so 7lb less than the growth scan predicted. I then got some clothes on and DD breastfed for a while. Mum and the MWs tidied up.

I don't remember this but she apparently passed meconium just as she came out so they had to wait and do checks when she was 2 hours old which were all fine. So the MWs and my Mum went home and we went up to bed.
The boys were most amused the next morning to see their little sister. They went off to school.

Everything seems to be going very very well. BF took a few days to settle down.

ghosteditor · 02/07/2012 12:33

Go lilly!!

Sorry not to post more about birth experiences but am jiggling a v tired dd and can't type much Sad

I massively recommend hypnobirthing - I only listened to a track about ten times but really used the visualisation and felt very much in control and powerful for nearly all of the second stage - really helped me and certainly can't hurt!

Davinaaddict · 02/07/2012 14:41

Hi all - I'm echoing your yawn Bun I don't really know why cos Lauren slept soooo much last night. But I'm so glad, cos for the past few days she's been feeding every 2-2.5 hours during the day. It's exhausting. I have no idea how we're going to cope when we hit the 4 month regression, if it's worse than this! I'm usually a decaf drinker but today the caffeine is out Grin

It's so sad about Aillidh Sad I'm glad to hear she's a little better today though.

Glad you had a good visit ghost Smile Shame about your brother though - I bet he was in the doghouse!

Hooray for hearing, tasting and hearing again Trouble Grin Note to self to buy a poncho too!

Sorry to hear about your hips Bun The prams better exercise for your arms anyway Wink Love the live Lilly update! AnchorBun on the job again Grin

Great news about Violet Mamma I do love that you'll be on baby no 232 in two years too Grin And your next birth won't be the same. Mine wasn't and there are loads of stories on MN about the differences in births as well Smile

Have you been watching Mike The Night fools ? I watched it once and never again! I couldn't cope with the amount if 'Huzzah'-ing Angry Tell me more about the 30 day shred! I've seen loads of threads on it over the past few months. I'm wondering if it's for me...
Sling-wise - Lauren's got really good head control, so I've put her in facing the world. It's not recommended until their 4 months but every baby is different. I'm also keeping a close eye on her, and will change her round if she's getting tired. And ghost, you don't have a belly!

What type of sling do you have McKayz ? ghost & I both have the Kari Me one, which seem huge when you get then out. But mine has to be done up fairly tight to tie properly, with the amount of times you wrap it around your body. But, it works better when it's tight too. Great news DH is going to be home soon! I have my fingers crossed for rain on Thursday for you Grin

So I'm now watching over a very content little madam girl, who's rolled onto her back and is smiling and babbling to me and her feet, having kicked her trousers off. So much for sleep! I think she's getting far too comfy in her cot Hmm best get her up I suppose....

foolserrand · 02/07/2012 15:32

Sounds very similar to my second stage, McKayz. Lovely to have such a good experience. Sending lots of rainy thoughts your way. Am surprised about the wrap though. Which one do you have?

Well done Lilly and Lauren! Rolling and smiling babies are what we like.

I'm afraid I 'huzzah'ed long before that squitty little twerp terrorized cbeebies. I will definitely let you know about the shred, not sure when I'm starting it because I don't want to over work my knees and have to finish c 2 5k. It's dirt cheap on amazon at the moment, about £3.50, hence buying it now.

Ghost, did hypnobirthing really help? I've read only good things but was a bit skeptical. Perhaps for number 3, eh?!

MammaInTheMaking · 02/07/2012 15:35

Well done lilly!!!

Me and V are having a nice lazy day. Stuck to the sofa, feeding lots and cuddling Smile

ghosteditor · 02/07/2012 15:57

Ooh fools, keep us updated inan the shred; I'd like to try it, especially as I can't get out to do my usual exercise at the moment. Careful of those knees though Smile.

Yep, I was very Hmm about hypnobirthing as it's not usually my thing at all, but a MNer friend gave me an mp3 of her hypno class's required listening as she thought it might help me relax and lower my blood pressure. I kept falling asleep so wasn't even listening to the whole thing.

But during the labour I found myself using the visualisation (blowing up a balloon) and it really helped. I had a long second stage as I was transferred from the MW unit to hospital and was asked not to push for an hour (!) but the breathing and visualising really helped. I hardly made a sound and was ok without pain relief. I do have to say that I do a lot of yoga which also helped with breathing and I'm physically quite fit, plus DD was in a very good position, so everything was going my way anyway.

But it helped me stay calm even through all the worry about my blood pressure, the painful exam by the doctor, the transfer etc - so I will be listening to it again for any subsequent babies!

Thanks davina Grin

I second davina's comments re the sling mckayz, though I do recall not having much spare fabric in the early days. You need to tie wrap slings quite high (almost sternum height) and very tight for them to work best.

foolserrand · 02/07/2012 16:21

I'm a terrible mother! Stuck Kerrang! on with a Limp Bizkit thing and have ds moshing, head banging and... jumping off the stool while playing air guitar. You can't teach kids to be this cool! You can, however, teach them to sing "everyone's an ass". Very very loudly.

McKayz · 02/07/2012 16:25

I have the Kari Me sling too. The instructions show it being tied round your hips and at a fat size 18 there's no way in hell it's gonna happen. Once I've put it round me and over my shoulders and crossed it there's no fabric left to tie in the double knot.

TroubleAndFyfe · 02/07/2012 16:58

Another vote for hypnobirthing here! We only managed one class because of DS's early arrival but listened to the CD every week then every day towards the end and used all the visualisations. I'm sure that's what helped me to go from 2-10 cm in half an hour and have a lovely birth despite him being back to back. I was talking to DH throughout but otherwise didn't make a sound and really didn't need to. Felt totally in control from start to finish. Smile
My sling is huge so fitted me right away but I have quite a bit more fabric now! I have a wrap sling (unbranded - Victoria sling lady) and a ring sling for at home and a porta wawa which I picked up for a couple of pounds. I want to get a non stretch wrap soon. I started face out carrying at about 3 months but still do whenever he is sleepy as he's more comfortable and supported and I can get a better cuddle
After those two awful nights it is like a switch has been, well, switched. He can now hold things really well and put them in his mouth and has started watching me eat with amazement! He's dotting playing with a teething toy from the freezer and loving it! Smile

AnchorBun · 02/07/2012 17:03

Fools I think I love you - that's the coolest parenting ever Grin

OP posts:
McKayz · 02/07/2012 17:05

I am not made for hypnobirthing. I hated the CD, it just felt stupid to me trying to imagine I was on a beach in the sun and breathing in a ball of golden light.

Its just me I think as everyone else seems to love it.

TroubleAndFyfe · 02/07/2012 17:36

Haha, I do know what you mean mckayz! I didn't have that in mine but did have to imagine 'floating on a cloud of shimmering blue' etc.! Not my usual kind of thing at all but it did work! Smile
Your DS sounds brilliant fools! Grin

ghosteditor · 02/07/2012 17:47

Grin fools

trouble that's how it works, go Fyfe! J is not sleeping well and is so so grumpy as she's working on crawling. We gave her yoghurt today - she LOVED it! Let the weaning (and mess!) continue...

AnchorBun · 02/07/2012 18:19

We've just started weaning today too Ghost, what a coincidence! Bibs at the ready! Smile

TroubleAndFyfe · 02/07/2012 19:02
