Hi star Smile
Oh McKayz Sorry you're feeling crap, hope it does mean something is happening.. Try to keep hydrated.

Shelduck · 31/05/2012 11:24

(Silly girl! Found the new thread but posted to the wrong one. Was hoping to sneak in to amend it before anyone noticed, but was busted by bemy!)

Hi everyone,
So, so sorry for long silence! Everything got a bit hectic for a while, and my brain and my body just couldn't keep up with everything I wanted to get done in my spare time. But I'm finally off work (raised BP forced me to start mat leave a week early last week), so I'm really looking forward to spending some time catching up with all your news. Have missed sharing your experiences and stories, and benefitting from your advice!

So anyway, that was just a quickie to say that I haven't fallen down a hole or anything. I'm still standing (just)! Hope you're all doing wonderfully.

xxx

SpecialJK · 31/05/2012 12:16

nova sorry if TMI, but our NCT leader told us that DH's 'substance' was equally as effective if delivered 'orally' as well as the more traditional method Wink........ jus sayin Grin

McKayz · 31/05/2012 12:45

Just waiting for the MW to come and do the home birth assestment. It wa payday yesterday so I had a big Asda shop delivered earlier. So there are a few bags of stuff lying about. Eeeek

bemybebe · 31/05/2012 13:22

special hahaaha
I have heard this on MN first though, but my midwife was shocked at the suggestion and said the amount to be "delivered orally" to be effective is beyond anybody's "DH" abilities. "local" application is thus more effective. Grin I wonder if anyone wants to volunteer for a trial?

bemybebe · 31/05/2012 13:32

McKayz sorry about the way you feel, hopefully it gets better for you one way or another!
Nova I understand that MamaTens is v good, so I will probably go for this one. Need to book the hire today or it will not be delivered til next Wed!
special happy birthday, hope you had a great day! Grin
ssc well done for jumping into research. I hope you are already feeling better.

I am better, the cold is almost gone... Smile fx I will be in good health for labour.

McKayz · 31/05/2012 13:46

Thank you Smile Feeling a bit better now.

MW has just been to do the home birth risk assesment. She is a bit worried that there isn't quite enough room for the pool. So I have to spend the weekend trying to rearrange the front room and hope it fits properly.

Baby is 1/5th engaged!! I know it doesn't mean too much but I know that subsequent babies don't usually engage until just before labour.

StarlightMaJesty · 31/05/2012 13:55

Special is your NCT teacher a man?

McKayz. I got a Doula who advised as well as setting up a pool place, set up a mw place with biscuits etc. So that you have prepared in advance the 'standard' distance between you. E.g if you place the pool surrounded by sofas then you might feel as like a circus performer if the mws and others sit round you.

Also, when you Dh 'receives' the mw then instead of taking her straight to you, he should take her straight to the pre-prepared mw station so she settles there unless/until you need her iyswim!

ffnorm · 31/05/2012 14:54

Welcome back Shelduck don't forget to re add yourself to the stats Smile

Starlight the liquid is a Chlorhexadine based soap to kill bacteria on the skin.Did she write NE for not engaged?

mcK sorry to hear you were feeling rubbish, would be nice if it were the start of something... What do they do at a home birth assessment ie what would make your home unsuitable??

We discussed the sperm application issue on the fb book page a while ago,I think it was crackersandcheese who scientifically looked into it and found out the amount of prostaglandin needed was equivalent to doing the deed 40 times - which we agreed was asking too much at this stage Grin Grin

McKayz · 31/05/2012 15:03

Ffnorm I actually have no idea. I guess they'd tell you to go to hospital.

rhibutterfly · 31/05/2012 15:31

dairy so sorry about your MIL hope the chemo is sucessful and not too horrid xxx
special happy birthdayThanks
cheddar sorry to hear about c-section, i find out tomorrow if my LO is still breech.
star i delivered my placenta in the pool in birthing unit, don't know why it's different at homeConfused
sorry if i've missed anyone out, have nice evening all xx

StarlightMaJesty · 31/05/2012 15:36

I'm guessing no-ones home is unsuitable. They just want prior warning of where your hosepipes are going to run for the pool, how to access clean water, where to park, how many stairs if in a flat. That kinda thing. And to cover their bottoms that they've explained when they would recommend transferring in.

StarlightMaJesty · 31/05/2012 15:39

Rhi. I delivered in the pool in a birthing unit last time too, so not sure why all the fuss. Actually the mw said it was because she couldn't assess the bloodloss, but quite frankly the mw at my first couldn't on dry land so I reckon the best guess is to do with how you feel.

McKayz · 31/05/2012 15:53

My MW said she's only had one woman deliver placenta in the pool. She said most women want to get out and that the placenta tends to fall out as they climb out.

So I said I'd see how I feel at the time.

StarlightMaJesty · 31/05/2012 16:04

I've done dry land and pool, and pool is MUCH better. Think people only want to get out coz they think they should. All the things that make delivering baby easier in the pool, make delivering the placenta easier and there is SO much less mess as it is all contained.

But I guess each to their own - lol. I don't suppose it is nice if the water goes cold or gets really manky whilst you are waiting though, but the pool birth was just so damn straightforward it made sense to stay, cuddle baby and drink tea whilst I rested and then coughed out the placenta.

I'm planning to keep cord attached until it is out too, although they don't know this - lol. I researched it LOADS last time and it reduces risk of jaundice and increases iron stores for baby.

Kveta · 31/05/2012 16:44

I've just spent this afternoon chucking my guts up due to a bizarre sudden cough, so so much fun... have evil heartburn, despite not eating anything obviously heartburn inducing for days. am Angry and know fine well this means sweet FA regarding baby appearing. Have resigned myself to induction on the 12th now...

and DS keeps headbutting the bump everytime I am not fully watching him - we were making cookie dough earlier and he would kick the bump every time I put away something like the flour or sugar. I think he is going to love his wee sister...

June starts tomorrow though, so hopefully we'll start producing some babies!!

HorseyGirl1 · 31/05/2012 17:00

Hi all,
Probably won't remember me but I posted a little way back in the thread and I have been reading about some of you who have had had breech babies throughout their pregnancy as I did. We ended up with a Elective C section on Monday and I just wanted to say that our little man is here safely and I'm so grateful. Unfortunately, BF hasn't worked out for us and I can't say I'm not disappointed about this but well, bottle feeding really isn't the end of the world. Wound is healing really well (worst bit for me was actually getting the injection beforehand! I'm such a wuss! We still got our skin to skin contact in recovery and he got a Bf there) and our little man is just gorgeous and so good. He only cries when he needs to. So really I just wanted to say don't be disappointed if you do have to have a c section or indeed bottle feed - you are still being the best Mummy you can be. One thing I will say about an Elective C is that you have a little bit of time to prepare yourself mentally beforehand - Hope all goes well xx

McKayz · 31/05/2012 17:02

Congratulations Horsey Another June baby has arrived!! Grin

Kveta · 31/05/2012 17:14

congratulations! how lovely to have your newborn safely here and snuggly :) enjoy these early days!

OP posts:
ffnorm · 31/05/2012 17:44

Congratulations Horsey good to hear you are both well Thanks

gwenniebee · 31/05/2012 17:48

Ooh congratulations horsey :)

Hello to everyone... I have enjoyed reading all the posts after work but am a bit brain dead! SSC glad you are feeling more upbeat today. I am totally with you on the not wanting to be on a ward with other people business. I think that's my biggest worry about giving birth! I am really hoping for a straightforward early hours of the morning birth so hopefully can be discharged with no need to go to ward and stay overnight with yucky horrid Other People and no DH. Because of course the other people will all be yucky and horrid! And I hate hate hate using public loos so the idea of doing this when I assume everything will hurt down there is just freaking me out. Strange what bugs us, isn't it?! I did have a chuckle about Ewan the Dream Sheep being in the hosp bag, but no nappies Grin

Dairy had a chuckle at your dream too! Hope your duvet cover was suitably red, white and blue!

McKayz hope that means things are on the way for you.... maybe body getting ready?

:) Am extreeeeemly excited tonight as only one more day of work and DH is coming home with the pram/car seat/pram top that baby will sleep in and the stand for it etc right as I type. Woo hoo!! Didn't think I'd be this excited about the arrival of something we ordered ages ago..... but I am. Yay yay yay. :)

On the other hand, my dad has shingles. Poor old pa. He's not feeling too crappy but is a bit worried about me going to stay this weekend. I think it should be ok, as I've had chickenpox and his blisters are all on his stomach so provided he doesn't suddenly take to parading himself semi-naked, it shouldn't be a problem. Would you ladies agree?

ceeej · 31/05/2012 18:00

huge congratulations horsey, glad you had a safe arrival and you're enjoying being a mummy x

DairyNips · 31/05/2012 18:01

Massive congratulations Horsey! So glad to hear all went well and you are enjoying lots of newborn snugglesGrin

Gwennie No, it was not red white and blue, even more embarrassing!

DairyNips · 31/05/2012 18:37

Baby very active today, he keeps prodding my cervix though causing sharp uncomfortable painsHmm

10000fireflies · 31/05/2012 19:00

Congrats Horsey.

Have been v tired today after a full-on days obsessive cleaning yesterday. Have eaten disgusting large amount of emergency Galaxy supplies, but doesn't seem to have helped with energy levels. Grin

Whose baby's going to be next?

Waves to everyone. FF xx
