Welcome!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 26/06/2012 10:25

Oh whims - how do you store them over 48hrs without them getting pongy? I'd heard bucket with tea tree oil?

DH is currently doing DIY in nowt but a pair of ripped jeans, I am one lucky PSEPP. In fact, I think I must still be dreaming :o Blush

NinjaChipmunk · 26/06/2012 10:43

Grin at fluffy you go girl!
Good luck to tock for the scan today. Be back later, got to have shower and organise ds and view a house at lunchtime which is probably highly unsuitable as it needs complete refurbishment and is out of our price range but there is NOTHING coming on the market round here. Hopefully dp has put in our highest offer on the lovely house so will wait to hear back. Don't think we'll get it though, I think they want about 20k more than we can offer. Boo!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 26/06/2012 10:55

smegs did you make your cushion cover? I came across a printed version of this cushion pattern in my office which I got free from work - I can post it to you if you like?

Ooooo it's tock's scan day, isn't it? Exciting! I can't believe how quickly that's come round :)

I don't know ninja, if they're trying to sell quickly to fund their move they may? :)

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 26/06/2012 11:01

Sending lots of No Brooking to Tocks for a great scan today!

Also sending extra No Brooking (on top of the sneeze birth No Brooking) for Ninja to
get the lovely house! Is there any chance you can copy an image of the lovely house from the webpage (not a direct link to the description, just right-click on an image of the house and save it) and post it up here for super nosy people like me?!?!

NinjaChipmunk · 26/06/2012 11:33

Scream will post link when not on phone.

whimsicalname · 26/06/2012 11:51

loopy I'm stunned by your nappy storage capabilities! We just don't have that sort of space.

fluff you stick them in a bucket (with a lid) in water with either stuff called something like 'nappy soak' or with tea tree. Or a bit of both. Also, you get string bag things that you put in the bucket so you just haul the bag out and chuck it in the machine being careful not to get nappy water between your toes so you don't have to stick your hands in.

Hadn't realised it was tock's scan today. How exciting! I finally get to see a mw this afternoon which might bring the whole thing to reality a bit.

Good luck with the viewing ninja

Loopyhasanotherbean · 26/06/2012 13:54

err whims i have quite a big house, with a very big loft...well actually its more than one loft, but i only use the main loft....so yes, a lot of boxes in there...probably about 50-60 at a guess....and maybe a few wipes too :)

Stacks · 26/06/2012 14:25

whims I found your posts really useful last night, and did actually spend the whole evening looking at and reading about nappies! The One Life ones have been discontinued, not sure if it's because they went out of business. Amazon are still selling a starter pack, but I think it was £250, which is a lot to pay before I've tried any. I then went on to the bambino mio site and looked at their offerings, the 'pre fold' ones seem good, though they also have a (new?) design of an all in one type one. I was wondering though, if you have to change the nappy every 2-4 hours like the website says, how do you get your baby sleeping through the night?

No Brooking for tock and your scan, I'm sure everything will be all fine and dandy.

Fluff those cushion covers are really nice! Though I could probably figure out how to make them without a pattern (maybe). I had this idea that I wanted to make cushions from some old pairs of jeans I have, but DH said this was "too 90's" and told me not to do so without asking for his sister's opinion...

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 26/06/2012 14:40

If smegs doesn't want it, I'll happily send it to you stacks? :)

whimsicalname · 26/06/2012 14:41

Lucky you loopy. They must make excellent insulation! I thought I bulk bought by sometimes buying 2 lots of 2 for 3 offers. We also have quite a large loft, but it's full of children.

Glad to be of help stacks. Yes, I agree, it's a lot to shell out in one go. I didn't get a big birth to potty batch until I was sure they were the sort I wanted with DS2.

I'm guessing 2-4 hours is more guidelines than rules. Only a crazy mummy would wake a baby up to change their nappy. That said, a friend of mine used to, but she's definitely crazy. I use a disposable over night now, although I think I used to use reusables. I used to be a bit obsessive, and take them on holiday and away for the weekend and things like that. Now I'm only borderline obsessive.

whimsicalname · 26/06/2012 14:46

Blimey, I just realised that sounded really sinister. My loft is full of children because we have a big bedroom up there which my older 2 have, and the little one is always trying to get into.

I'm not the crazy mummy from Flowers in the Attic. I promise.

ScrambledSmegs · 26/06/2012 15:31

PMSL whims Grin I've not at all got you tagged as 'mad lady who keeps children in the attic'. Oh no... Grin

fluff that cushion pattern looks lovely and I'd love to take you up on your offer. Maybe I could be a bit cheeky and scan it to Pdf to send to stacks?! Don't tell on me, copyright n'all... Wink

tock I hope all is well with you. Brooking hard for your scan!

Love all the nappy advice! We use eco disposable nappies for DD, which are more £££ than the regular ones but ease my conscience somewhat. I got given some cool-looking washable nappies called the Pop-in but I got a bit scared by the instruction leaflet and never used them Blush. We also had a very cold/damp house at the time, and washing never dried properly in it. Now we've sorted out the house and bought a tumble dryer I'd really like to use washable nappies for the new one. I'm going to head to the lovely local baby store for a tutorial, they're very good at that. Also, the local grant for washable nappies will definitely help!

Oh, and again, I'm exhausted. What is it with my DD's sudden decision to NOT SLEEP?!!! I'm so tired it's making me physically sick again Sad She used to sleep so well too, not such a smug mother now am I?!

Stacks · 26/06/2012 15:31

Fluff I think I like the materials and finish as much as the pattern. I think I will be putting a sofa bed in the bean's room, so some nice cushions could be good..

whim I wondered while reading it how much of the claims of less nappy rash etc was just because people changed the nappy more. I was thinking of getting some second hand ones or unused/unwanted ones from ebay and trying them out. The starter pack from Bambino Mio has the right size inserts for the first 2 sizes, you just need new outers. Might be worth getting, or just the mini packs of a couple of nappies for £10. The all in one type ones they sell appear to have been made with quicker drying in mind, and might be worth it for over-night use.

Ofc, with this new recycling scheme I saw for nappies recently (turning them into plastic benches and stuff) maybe re-usables will become unnecessary.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 26/06/2012 15:38

:o smegs PM me your address and I'll stick it in the mail and then you can scan it for stacks :)

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 26/06/2012 15:40

I might have bought this in the M&P Sale the other day... Nice to find something so cute that's suitable for UBBs!!! :o

Stacks · 26/06/2012 16:37

That set is so cute! I might have to buy one too..

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 26/06/2012 16:40

Ladies! Cribs: worthy investment, or waste of cash?

There's one on ebay nearby for £30 (though I'd need to buy a £40ish mattress). I was thinking it looks a bit more sturdy than a moses basket for use in our bedroom (dark, clumsy DH) but will it be a PITA decanting a sleeping baby from the downstairs moses into a crib for overnight etc?

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 26/06/2012 16:43

Actually the mattresses are only £17...

Stacks · 26/06/2012 16:58

I've been given a crib by my sister, and am planning on using it. I'll not bother buying a cot till later then, whenever the baby is ready to leave our room, or if the crib isn't working out. I'd say they're maybe better than a moses basket, but I have no experience! Whenever it got close to bedtime you could always put the baby down upstairs with a monitor rather than downstairs in the basket?

Biscuitsandtea · 26/06/2012 17:01

Fluffster we have a crib upstairs and use the bugaboo cameleon carry cot instead of a Moses basket downstairs.

We never got a Moses basket because I'd heard so many people say their babies had grown out of it in a few months and with DH being so tall I was naturally erring on the side of having a big baby. The carry cot on our pram is bigger than a lot of MBs.

Anyway, it is a teensy bit of a faff at the mo taking ds2 up to bed with us when we go as it does disturb him and of course then DH is we are clattering about a bit. However, when he was smaller, if he woke up at that time I'd feed him anyway. And ds1 we woke to feed at our bedtime until he started sleeping through. Mostly he re-settles himself when we've transferred him. In a few weeks I might start putting him down upstairs at his bedtime to eliminate the transfer.

Actually, there's a qn for Generic. We've been given the SIDS advice that they share a room with you. At what age (if any) is it ok to put them to bed upstairs rather than in the same room as you?

Don't know if that helps at all Fluff?

Biscuitsandtea · 26/06/2012 17:03

Sorry, my qn for Gen meant that the advice says to sleep in the same room as you for 6 months so is there any point where it's ok to put them to bed in our bedroom at his bedtime to avoid this transfer malarky now that he's (almost) sleeping through?

DreamingOfPeace · 26/06/2012 17:10

smegs my DD gave up sleeping well at night for most of my pg. I hope that yours isn't planning on similar...

DreamingOfPeace · 26/06/2012 17:14

Blimey biscuits if I ever get the dts to sleep earlier they're upstairs, and in their own room too.... Feeling a bit guilty. Most of my rl friends have put the baby upstairs once they're sleeping better...

clickingtock · 26/06/2012 17:34

Hello all

We used great second-hand washables - Little Lambs - until v recently, as well as some prefolds (but only for the first 3 months of DS' life) but LL are super easy. Don't choose bamboo products if you can help it - they take forever to dry. I choose not to wash nappies with our clothes - just personal that one. I can leave them in a 'dry' bucket for 3 days. We get through 6 a day tops and would never bother at night as it just wouldn't work so get 'green' disposables though am probably kidding ourselves. I was worried about the chemicals in in main brand disposables - in the gel that soaks up the urine... Not sure if I'm just a super hippy durr-head.

What else? Hope Ninja gets her house; great to have had a good offer on the flat. Oh and SNEEZE birth please. Saturday would be nice wouldn't it?

Have stabbing pains gone Fluff?

Hello to all others.

DS is proudly telling everyone that he saw a baby in mummy's tummy today. Grin A rather shy baby who didn't want to be measured but did some lovely flips and hands to face movements. All good size etc - all limbs present and a good strong heartbeat - due date now Jan 3 2013. Nuchal measurement was 'within range'. Am over the moon.

Gen - you are v close behind us. Brooking for you and your scan - and Whims too.

Big hugs.

xxxxx

NinjaChipmunk · 26/06/2012 17:34

right ladies I need some brooking that this baby cannot arrive until thursday night/ friday morning at the earliest. I have 2 houses to view, one tomorrow night and one thursday night. At least then I'll feel happy that we will have seen everything in our area and price range currently available.
On the subject of cribs I have no idea as have never had one. Would probsbly last longer than a moses basket though so for £50 all in you are probably onto a winnerI think ds went into his own room at about 4 and a bit months as he outgrew his basket and his cot wouldn't fit in our room.
