Fishcake - I'm doing an NCT refresher course for that reason this time.we haven't moved that far since I had DS, but last time I had a lovely much of friends from my nct group, who I'm still friendly with, but they're all back at work now - some have had dc2 and gone back already and I think others are waiting until dc1 is at school before dc2 so no others due to have a baby at the same time.

But it is hard to find stuff to go to where you can take both kids to meet people. Its tricky to find an activity for both of them - either dc2 would be left while I do something with DS, or DS would be bored at something for dc2. And I think DS is maybe a bit old for a lot of the baby and toddler groups at 3 and a half?

Sorry that's not much help, but I do see the prob. I have seen NCT bumps and babies groups though and I don't think you had to go to the ante natal class for that? I'm sure if you got in touch with the local co-ordinator they'd be able to help?

How many weeks are you likely to be when you move? Or will it be after the birth? Maybe the HV will be able to help too?

Also does / will your dd go to any sort of pre-school or nursery where you leave her? That would give you a bit of time I do something just with dc2?

Just popping in to say I'm so sorry to hear your sad news Little Sad. I hope you're getting lots of RL support and hugs. Take care of yourself and when you feel ready we would love to see you back brooking with us on the TTC fred.

Waves to all the PSEPP - really hope to be joining you over here at some point soon, keep me a glittery vom bucket just in case! Wink

NinjaChipmunk · 19/01/2012 18:45

olives we have enough glittery vom buckets and cushions for everyone. And we are looking forward to everyone coming here (and staying!).

too check out the surestart in that area? The one near me does loads of groups for newborns and upwards and I could take ds to stay and play till the beginning of the jan after he was 3. You can always look at putting your dd into preschool for her free 15 hours when she reaches 3 and you may meet some people that way? Or join the NCT as a member and go to some coffee mornings/ offer to help with some nct sales? Is there a MN local group for that area? Also Netmums generally lists local groups by area too and I think they have a 'meet people in your area' type section too? It may be worth your while starting a thread in a busy part of MN like chat asking people in that area to let you know what there is to do with little ones too?

TheLittleFriend · 19/01/2012 19:08

Thanks for all your kind words everyone. Even though I don't know any of you in RL, it really does mean a lot to see that you are all here thinking of me.

We're doing ok today. A few teary moments and it feels a bit surreal, but mostly just trying to be normal.

scarletfingernail · 19/01/2012 19:20

Hi Little good to hear you're doing ok. Don't put any pressure on yourself to be normal if you're not ready yet. It can hit you hard when you're least expecting it so go easy on yourself.

Fishcake I second what Ninja said and check out the local Surestart and Netmums local. I met some really nice people after DS was born by joining a new parent group. While we were all first time parents, I'm sure you'd be welcome somewhere like that if you were new to the area. It might also be a good idea to look for activities for DD1 to do, there's bound to be people there who also have younger DC and your DD will be kept entertained then as well.

Little, look after yourself and thank you for updating us xxx

Wants3 · 19/01/2012 20:21

Hi everyone. Sorry to hear your news little
I have had a mammoth day, first day back to uni 9-6! I now have brain
ache:( . I got home though to find that DS1 was preparing tea ( homemade cottage pie and apple strudel) so I didn't have to deal with that too!

Biscuitsandtea · 19/01/2012 20:31

little thank you for coming to update us. I'm glad that you're doing 'ok' (iyswim) and physically etc. make sure you take it easy - thinking of you lots xxx

Biscuitsandtea · 19/01/2012 20:32

Wants how did you train ds1 to do that - can I borrow him?

DreamingOfPeace · 19/01/2012 21:06

Little, I think you're in everyone's thoughts. It's such sad news, and must be really hard to come to terms with.

scream there are always horror stories. My stpe sister has had 3 CS- the first was EMCS, but not a really huge rush, more failure to progress. Then she tried a VBAC and had a crash section for placental abruption, then for her third an ELCS (they wouldn't let her try VBAC then). She had big pain issues mid CS with her only ELCS!!!! But it is only because it's so unusual she mentions it, and they did sort out her pain relief. I had an epidural for my op after DD's birth, and towards the end had some patchy cover- they stopped immediately when I said 'ow!' and would have topped everything up etc but they'd said only 3-5 stitches to go and I was desperate to get back to my brand new DD so I said forget it and push on, so just had a bit of a painful end- but my choice entirely. That will not be on my list of worries!!

fishcake, I didn't have any new mum friends when I had DD and went to some baby groups. I met lots of nice people- not all straight away, and I tried a few different ones, but we do the playgroup rounds now... In our area there's a website which lists a hige number of baby groups in the area, so sometimes there's 3 or 4 to choose from! You'd be bound to meet some nice people at one. In fact, DD has 'homework' from her Baby Signing course, and her music group DH took her to this morning ( a musician run one which I've heard nothing but rave reviews about,a nd went to a taster at a children's centre once which was really good). Miracle that- DH actually took DD to a music group. I was Shock. Been suggesting he take her since I went back to work, and he finally does it the week before I leave again!!!

Right, sorry everyone else, DH needs computer

Wants3 · 19/01/2012 21:17

biscuits You will have to wait in line to borrow my DS,uni friends had first dibs! I don't know what I did to get such a lovely teenager but making the most of it. He will be a great help when new baby arrives :)

Biscuitsandtea · 19/01/2012 21:21

Right I'll just have to start training DS tomorrow then. Apple strudel isn't too hard for a 3yo right? I mean perhaps I should put it in and out of the oven for him......

NinjaChipmunk · 20/01/2012 09:48

biscuits ds loves peeling veg, i find thats a good start. He finds potatoes a bit difficult as they are a bit too big for his little hands but give him a carrot or parsnip and he's well away. He also loves making cakes/ pastry/ dough. I bought him his own peeler last time we went to Ikea, he was very proud Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 20/01/2012 09:56

Ninja I love the veg peeling idea! He already loves most baking etc but never thought of getting him to do the veg....

Right I'm off to the PAU at 11 just to get checked over. Don't think they were overly worried as they asked if I wanted to go rather than suggesting it but hopefully will put my mind at rest. Wish me luck...

NinjaChipmunk · 20/01/2012 10:16

good luck, are they able to tell you where the placenta actually is (like showing you the position on your tummy)? Let us know how you get on (and buy a peeler on the way home!)

Biscuitsandtea · 20/01/2012 10:54

I'm going to ask that ninja if they do a scan. I might get them to draw on the placenta and the baby.....

scarletfingernail · 20/01/2012 10:58

Good luck Biscuits.

I've been monitored and they seemed happy with everything. I can hear mvmts on the monitor that I can't feel though. Also because my bump is measuring ahead on my dates they want me to wait and have a scan. So just waiting for that. I'm going to have a huge car parking bill!

I do feel reassured though, which is good. And glad about the scan as the mw had mentioned it being a possibility at my last appt so feel happy in a way that it's being checked.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 20/01/2012 13:52

Biscuits, glad you've been monitored and everything looks fine - and a free scan thrown in too! Brooking that the measuring ahead is nothing to worry about.

6 minutes before the baby is out in a CS! Wow! Yay for less time to panic...

I was supposed to have a MW appt this morning at 8.30, but turned my phone on at 8.40 wondering where she was and discovered a text from last night saying her mum had been taken ill and she'd have to cancel. I wanted my bump measured because I'm not just 100% convinced it has grown recently. I feel less full of baby and I'm getting less heartburn. Lots of kicks, though. DH says it has grown. My stretchmarks have got a bit red again, so perhaps it has. Anyway, 30 weeks today! The MW said she would call me to reschedule on Tues, so I don't have that long to wait.

I'm planning on making friends at bf groups, because I don't want to go to ante-natal classes - I know what labour is like, I'm not doing it this time, and I don't want to have to explain why. Besides, you only get 3 NHS classes in my area, which wasn't time enough for anyone to exchange numbers the last time.

Wants3 · 20/01/2012 16:12

Yay! The weekend again already! Time is flying for me at the moment. Maybe it's because I have sooo much to do. An essay and exam plus everything to be sorted at work!
Good news today- we got the planning permission for our extention so we can start looking into builders.
biscuits good news on the movement, looking forward to hearing about scan soon.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 20/01/2012 16:34

Woe, PIL due in half an hour and they're not going away until Sunday! Have sent DH shopping and was attempting to do last minute cleaning, but got agonising shooting back pain (to add to the achey pelvis) and had to sit down and MN instead. Have also discovered that dining table has developed big burnt patches where hot plates have been, and am praying that MIL doesn't take the tablecloth off to shake any crumbs out. It was her dad's table and she's very protective of it, even though it is just a bog-standard fold-down table, not an antique or even particularly nice.

scarletfingernail · 20/01/2012 17:02

Grin at Too's table. I hope the weekend goes well.

Biscuits great that everything is looking good. I hope you manage to find out from the scan exactly where everything is.

I'm out for a meal with friends tonight. I'm looking forward to catching up, but I'm in a bit of a can't be arsed mood at the thought of having to get ready. I've got so lazy.

OP posts:
ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 20/01/2012 18:33

Also Grin at Too's table, hope the visit goes well.

Scarlet have fun tonight, the getting-ready effort will be worth it once you're actually out.

V glad to hear Biscuits' monitoring went well, and I hope you enjoyed seeing the gorgeous biscuitcrumb at the scan!

I've had a hectic day trying to finish off work (didn't quite get there so will still be finishing stuff off tomorrow). However I did find time to order my bedside cot and also to give my Mum the details to order the pram! So exciting!!!

Plus, several of my really good friends from work are heading over to my house right now with Nandos and banter - can't wait! I'm dying to see them!! Super excited about it all!

I hope everyone has a good Friday night!

pommedenoel · 20/01/2012 19:00

Oo fun to everyone out tonight! have great evenings! I've got lunch with a friend tomorrow and a party next Saturday with dh babysitting dd and I'm thinking these will be my last hurrah before becoming housebound for weeks?months?years??!

I'm knackered tonight and have asked dh for a cooking break so we're doing snack stuff tonight and takeaway tomorrow. Bliss!

Too - I could definitely not deal with a PIL visit this weekend. Good luck with it all and the table!

Biscuitsandtea · 20/01/2012 19:05

Right, well I finally got home from the hospital at 5pm - what a day of waiting around! Anyway, as I said earlier the trace bit of the monitoring went fine so that's good.

The bump is measuring ahead of where I should be - which the mw had picked up last time and said if it was still the same she might refer me for another growth scan and poss GTT test. So effectively we had that extra scan today and indeed the baby is measuring a bit ahead of where it should be. This means I have to have a glucose tolerance test next week to test for GD. And some other blood test to screen for infection, but the registrar thought it was unlikely to be infection. So it might be GD, or it might just be because DH is big? Who knows.

I don't really know a lot about GD though, or what I'd have to do differently if that is what I've got? If I have got it, do you think it's from eating too much chocolate? Blush

Also the scan showed up that the amniotic fluid is quite 'well stocked'. I don't really know if that is an issue or what it would mean? I'm guessing that too little fluid would be more of a problem?

The other thing that the scan showed up was that one of the kidneys looked a little large. Apparently the bit that collects the urine to pass out looks a bit big which might mean either it's not emptying properly or that the valve is allowing urine back in. If that is what's happening then it can lead to urine infections as a child. So we have to have a specialist scan for that too. Although I don't think it's really a pregnancy issue, more of an issue to keep an eye on and then follow up once born. The sonographer said though that the valve thing can be fixed with an op if need be? But that's all a way off.

Oh, and now I'm consultant led again instead of mw led because of (I assume) the growth thing and the kidney.

So next Wed I have the GTT and the other blood test for the infection screening and the specialist kidney scan too. I'm thinking that's a day to put DS in nursery.....

It is amazing though that they can work out different bits of a kidney on those scans. I mean I bet the whole kidney is about the size of a sesame seed......
