LaTristesse · 02/02/2012 17:27

I'm working up to my EDD which is lunacy considering DS came at 38 weeks, but it's more restful being at my desk than at home with a raging toddler...

Thaleia if you can guarantee the seat hasn't been involved in an accident you should be ok with a 2nd hand one (i.e. a family hand-me-down or somesuch...), personally I don't think I'd trust eBay in that respect - there are no guarantees!

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 02/02/2012 18:25

Didn't see your question about the car seat Thaleia - agree with LaTristesse - a second hand one where you know the history (eg from family or a friend) is fine, but I wouldn't get one from ebay or a friend-of-a-friend just in case it had already been in an accident or damaged in some way, and I buy almost everything from ebay!

Nordicmom · 02/02/2012 19:55

Agree on the car seats. We are getting a new car seat because the old one is from 7y ago and doesn't fit on my bugaboo .
I didn't have a baby shower last time but I think I might like to arrange a girly aft tea or lunch with a few of my friends. If they want to give anything then I'll suggest books . Have a million toys , all the equipment certainly by then and am too picky about clothes . Don't expect anything though , would nice just to toast the impending arrival though since it's been a long struggle :)!
Btw We got more good news on the schools front today ; DS also got an offer from the other school we did the exams for ! Makes me even more proud of the little guy , can't believe he's just 7 y and seems like such a big boy !
We'll go with the first offer and someone on the reserve list in the other school will be very happy to get our place :)...

Bunsouttheoven · 02/02/2012 21:17

Agree with spd chuff painGrin, heartburn, back ache etc etc. Also re car seat & eBay, I'd have no qualms about getting one from a friend but not off a total stranger, though in reality most people are honest & it does seem a shocking waste that thousands of car seats end up dumped.

I saw the consultant today. He said that if I can deliver a nearly 10lb baby I can do biggerHmm. Will have growth scans & if baby looks giant then will suggest I am induced early. Not sure I feel any better for seeing him really. Just means I'm going to spend the next 11 weeks worrying. Sad

notso · 03/02/2012 10:32

Morning all. Just having a quiet brew while DS2 is asleep at last.

I am gutted at the moment as the Bugaboo Donkey I really wanted won't fit through my house! It's taken me ages to decide on a double and now I have to think again Sad. I am going to start another thread in pushchairs but if anyone else has a double recommendation I'll be glad of it.
When I was trying it out there was a woman wrangling a toddler of about 18 months and a tiny baby in a sling, I can't believe that will be me in a couple of months plus a 7 yo and 11 yo!

newmummyvicky · 03/02/2012 20:55

hi all, Im 33 weeks next week,
It seems to be going so fast lately, im loving hot chocolate too and any other type of chocolate bars!!! diary milk / galaxy bar, and ive had a serge of being hungy too, ive been trying to eat extra fruit and veg and cerel/ toast if i get the hunger pains.
Bellys been strenching loads latley, but bump is still is quite neat. Not sure if i had brax hicks or just streching belly pains last night, did pass quite quickly! (Must not be too much room in there for them now)

Finished nursery, and order my i-candy cherry arrives nxt wk. Gone for plain black and gonna pimp it up with pink/ blue things when he/she gets here! lol

We have our 1 and only Anti-natal class at the hospital next wednesday 6-9 quite a long time 3 hours, but will see what its like! shame im not having weekly ones, would like a chance to meet other mums. oh well

My work friends are doing us a leaving party- Baby shower on the 9th march so i guess i have to look forward to....

Lorrainbow · 04/02/2012 20:18

Ooo when I turn over suddenly in bed I sometimes get a sharp stabbing pain in the side - I just call it the baby's elbow! Have spent a lot of time in bed napping this week. My husband has been away and without him to get me out of bed I can have 3 to 4 hour naps and still sleep at night! I'm in bed right now!

The snow in York is lovely, so glad I'm not due to April; can't imagine trying to get to the hospital in this weather!!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 05/02/2012 10:59

It could well snow in April Lorr...

Thats the thing bugging me about getting baby stuff, we could well still have snow and need woolly hats and gloves and big thick pramsuits, or it could be 25 degrees!! Grin I moved into this house in April (08 I think) and had snow when I was putting my new wardrobe together. I went on holiday for a few weeks and when we got back my mum had a BBQ out her garden and I burnt!! Darn British weather.

Hello everyone by the way, I havent been on the thread for a few weeks!

Have washed all of DS1s newborn clothes ready for DS2 and they are drying in my living room :)

VintageNancy · 06/02/2012 00:42

Went a bit mad in Babies R Us today and got a buggy, car seat, a bouncer, a stair gate (we have no stairs, it's actually for the dog to stop him scratching at our bedroom door at 5am!), too many clothes, and few other little bits.

We went for the Britax B-Agile as it was really light and will be good when we go out walking in the various parks and on trails around here. The Britax car seat just snaps in really easily and even with that it's still light. So hopefully we've made a good choice!

I'm fairly sure it'll be warm here in April (20C today!) but when I was here in March last year it poured with rain solidly for 2 weeks so who knows.

VintageNancy · 06/02/2012 00:42

PS hope you're all taking it easy and staying safe in the snow.

notso · 06/02/2012 12:38

Hi all had a busy weekend with no snow. DC are gutted.
Feeling really cumbersome at the moment, even though I'm only 28+6. Lumbering round after DS2 is knackering me! He is on a one baby mission to wreck my house I think.
Went pram shopping on Saturday, still no joy, nowhere seems to have the ones we want to see, we have to pay for them get them delivered then return them, seems like a faff.

I'm not bothering with a snowsuit, we didn't get one for December born DS2. I do have a wallaboo baby wrap which is great for freezing weather and easier to manage than a snowsuit but otherwise vest, babygro, hooded cardigan and blanket are fine for general chillier days.

mumofwilliam · 06/02/2012 20:33

hi all - not been on for ages but nice to see people getting on ok.
Going to be 33 weeks on sat and very over pregnancy now!
Got a question too for people. Think have just developed an umbilical hernia and wondering if i should do anything about it before have midwife appt in a couple of weeks? It still all pushes back in but is a bit sore but not sure they would do anything during pregnancy anyhow (also baby is sitting right under it!)

Agree with the carseat thing too - we have one from my brother but would not get one on ebay as not sure what has happened to it. Another really good place to get stuff from is Gumtree - good second hand baby stuff.

HollyPockett · 06/02/2012 21:23

Hi all

Feeling my 30+5 weeks today.. Work is crazy and cone the journey home I'm done for and it's only Monday. Started to clear our spare room out at the weekend. Two hours on Sunday and all I was sorting was mine and DH clothes. I was bloody knackered by the end of it.

Also massive happy that the snow came and went. I hate the bloody stuff!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 07/02/2012 21:10

Fucking stupid restless legs! You're killing me!! So fed up!! Let me be!!

Angry
LateToTheAprilParty · 08/02/2012 12:28

Hi all, just wondering if anybody else is getting a little bit fed up yet? First baby, and wondering when it's acceptable to start feeling a bit over this whole pregnancy thing?! Of course feeling baby move is still great and fun and exciting so I should just shut up and get on with it. But i feel like a big sore stroppy elephant. Poor DH is having to put up with so much sht, and i still have 10 weeks to go*! And it's only going to get worse! How? And what on earth am i meant to do with myself all that time?! I can hardly walk cos my legs and pelvis ache and i'm bored of waking up a thousand times a night. I know there's nothing i can do, but if anyone else tells me a) to sleep with a pillow between my knees and b) that waking up a lot is good practice for when the baby arrives then i may well punch them. Don't know what i expect them to say really, they're both quite good answers, the first few times you hear them...
Think i've just been lucky to have had a fairly symptom-free easy pregnancy so far, so I'm fiinding this third trimester all a bit inconvenient! Plus I keep thinking that i want to be doing things to prepare for the baby's arrival, but there's actually nothing much to do but sit and wait... Drivng me nuts. People say I should rest, but i get so bored. Am i literally expected to just sit and watch tv on my days off? And people keep asking if i'm excited and i'm running out of polite answers. Of course i'm excited. But i'm also quite bored of grunting every time i move and going everywhere really really slowly and having to ask my husband to help me take my trousers off. Who knew 9 months was such a long time?
Apologies for rant. DH has heard enough if it already and non-pg friends just seem a bit surprised that I'm not in a constant state of glowing pre-baby elation. Grrr...

LaTristesse · 08/02/2012 13:54

I'm with you Late, I'm with you!

I'm on DC2 and both times I've sailed through til the 3rd Trimester, and as soon as that kicks in it all goes to shit. I too am feeling like my pelvis is gonna bust open every time I move, and can't get a decent amount of sleep in no matter how early I go to bed. That and recurrent thrush are bugging the crap out of me; I'd be quite happy for another 'early' baby (DS came at 38 weeks).

Only thing I would say is, try and make the most of the time you have left where it's just you - you'll never be on your own again! Even if that's going to the cinema, sitting in a coffee shop, catching up with friends... (Sorry if you're hearing all that a lot too - I wish I'd made the most of those last few weeks of me-time - even things like having a wee come with an audience these days!)

Am totally suffering with post traumatic stress disorder after watching this weeks OBEM.

Is it too late to change my mind? Grin

VintageNancy · 08/02/2012 23:07

Judging by the comments on Twitter while it was on I think I'm glad I can't watch it here Jambalaya!

Flisspaps · 09/02/2012 09:05

I'm very glad I watched OBEM last night. I don't know why. I can't usually watch the difficult births (particularly forceps) but I was cheering them all on like buggery. Bloody amazing, and how absolutely gorgeous was Lailagh?

Lovely meeting with the Supervisor of Midwives yesterday to prepare my management plan :) She seemed even less concerned about my PPH risk than me, and she was very supportive of me wanting a physiological third stage to give myself more time to get the blasted placenta out this time. I was so prepared to have to battle to get support for a homebirth plan at the start and I am seemingly very lucky to have been massively shocked by the immediate support given by the MWs here Grin

Baby is no longer coming arse first (hooray!) however I am measuring 3.5cm large. Allowing for 2cm extra 'normal' range, then that's still 1.5cm more than they'd expect, although she thinks there's a fair bit of fluid and this is a 'nice sized' baby Hmm. DD was a long bugger so I suspect that this one will be too.

I'm off for a growth scan on Monday, although I have to say I am not really that concerned in the slightest (it felt like she was measuring a bit too far down, rather than being quite at the top of the bone) but I've agreed to the scan just in case.

Then again, I know even they're not accurate so might not tell us much. Still, I didn't expect to see this one again until it was born so it's a chance to get another peek.

How are we all? Prepared for the next dumping of snow?

Thaleia · 09/02/2012 12:42

I'm 29 weeks now and have to say, not really that fed up with pg. I would be nice if the baby would come by UBS or stork but than I don't enjoy being pregnant at all, so no change here.

Boss makes me run in circles (nothing new!) and that makes me so tired now. I am absolutely knackered by the time I come home and than there is "social live": pg yoga, gym, leaving parties, birthdays, welcome-back drinks on top of washing, shopping, baby things etc..

I said, I would work till 39 weeks or so just because I was worried about sitting at home and getting crazy/ bored. I'll see how it goes, I can always leave earlier (I think?).

Also, hard to please. Last week, Jr. was moving like mad, really uncomfy and annoying at times, since beginning of the week it's very calm and not much going on. Having said that: I counted the kicks and I'm well over 20 in 2hrs - just doesn't feel "enough".

To end it on a happy note: Thursday lunch time & only 1.5 days till the weekend ;)

Thaleia · 09/02/2012 12:44

spelling Blush ... better check the last 5 e-mails in my outbox Hmm

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/02/2012 14:12

I havent watched OBEM yet, its on my sky player for tonight while DH is in work. My prep for labour with DS was going in thinking the worst and that worked quite well, so a few difficult telly labours should help Wink
Glad I know its a happy ending before I watch it though :)

I'm doing some major nesting atm. The house needs at least 8 weeks of work to get it sorted though! Grin

notso · 09/02/2012 14:52

Hi all.

Haven't been watching any of OBEM but have been watching a lot of Baby Stories, and other such American type birth programmes on Home and Health.
I am always surprised to see how different hospital birth is in USA compared to here, it seems very controlled.

Going for Anti-D injection on Monday and M/W check up on Tuesday when I will be 30 weeks. 10 weeks seems like ages and not that long to go at the same time!
Starting to get a little hip/pelvis pain so am going to try wearing a bump support from now on, but by this time last pg I was barely walking and on lots of painkillers so not doing badly.
I think everyone is convinced this baby is a girl, my Mum even referred to baby as she yesterday.

Also trying to find a dress suitable for my friends wedding four days after my due date, don't even know if I'll make the wedding so not wanting to spend too much. I have told her I'll be at the church at least as long as I'm not pushing!

VintageNancy · 09/02/2012 23:51

How can I be 32 weeks pregnant? How?! I swear I only did the test a couple of weeks ago! Grin
Had midwife check today - all fine. Baby head down tho back-to-back but apparently they don't have any concerns about that as very likely to move.
All our stuff from the UK arrived today so have been unpacking that. Fun to see it all again.

Thaleia · 10/02/2012 14:15

I've hit the chocolate box. Hard. Really concerned about the weight gain as def. NOT pregnancy related, just pure greed. Oh well, I hope I managed not not overeat on the weekend .....
