Hi No Brookers! I do hope this has worked and is in the right place...

I've added a few extra sofas so we have plenty of space for all the Rat Smackers who will be joining us soon. There's also a nice long table filled with mince pies, yule logs, gingerbread snowmen and xmas puds! Plus some non-alcoholic mulled wine. I've strategically positioned a few clean glittery vom buckets under the table, just in case it's still a bit too early for xmas munchies for some people!

As you were...

Hi all! Scan went fine - all of baby's measurements are good (a little smaller than average around the abdomen and head, and slightly smaller legs - like me!). Had to go for a walk/bounce/chocolate bar half way through as it wasn't letting the sonographer measure its spine! Was breech today, but judging by its recent acrobatics I'm pretty sure that's changing on a regular basis.

The surprise though is that I do have an anterior placenta! Anterior high, apparently. It explains why DH hasn't been able to feel anything yet despite me feeling what I think are huge kicks! Maybe also explains why the majority of movement is lower down, and why I feel movement in bursts, and then not for a while - when it turns around? Hmmm..

We asked not to find out the gender, but DH and I have a sneaking suspicion, although neither of us is completely certain - but this time we both think similarly, unlike after the last scan! Will be interesting to see if we're right :)

This morning we noticed that the City Mini had been upped by £50 on JL, but was still at the original price on Tesco - so hopped to Mothercare after the good scan, where they price matched it and put it on order for us :) hurrah!

Dream, please don't worry about trying it - but thanks for the offer! I don't think we'll be getting a Mini after all - think we'll be getting a Ford of some type (we know some people high up, who could get us fab discounts if we're lucky!)... but he's always wanted one, hence the question ;)

Scream, glad your work is trying to be as supportive as possible - and so glad you have a lovely GP too :) That'll make it so much easier when you decide the time comes when you can no longer survive work..!

pommedenoel · 04/01/2012 16:25

Scream - I'll be nearly 33 weeks. That is a lot earlier than I went on mat leave with dd but now I work for myself it's all a bit easier! I had a high pressured job pre dd (although I think it's a completely different industry some of your work stories remind me a bit of my old job) and can definitely recommend going freelance afterwards!

I've bought really pretty muslins for new mums before and they've been well received. I had a few and somehow in the middle of the night a little embroidered bee does make you feel a bit better! As have really lovely baby blankets. I loved getting clothes in the next few sizes up 3-6 and 6-9 months as it felt like there was delayed gratification!

I'm now thinking maybe I need a feeding cushion...

One Born Every Minute tonight!!!! I love the fact it's been on during both my third trimesters :)

scarletfingernail · 04/01/2012 16:55

Fantastic news musical. Such a relief to hear the sonographer to say all appears to be well isn't it. I'm intrigued about both you and your DH having a suspicion re the sex of the baby. Is that just from looking at the scan alone? Without even looking at "that area" I thought DS looked like a boy baby on his scan pic and I was right. I also think this one is a boy as it looks identical to DS on the scan pic. Of course I realise that means nothing really, it just seems to make my instinct about it stronger. Are you thinking your LO is a boy or a girl?

jaggythistle · 04/01/2012 17:08

Hello all.

MW appointment was fine this morning. My worryingly big looking tummy is measuring correctly, heartbeat heard and bp fine.

Don't know if you remember me on about my slightly scary but nice midwife? Anyway it was a different one today who said I'd probaby be seeing her from now on. She seems more approachable which I am liking. :)

Although it was only just over 2 years ago, i feel like i have forgotten a lot of what it felt like after my CS Scream.

Mine wasn't a proper emergency like Looopy, but was basically because things weren't progressing and I'd been awake for about 2 days! DS's heartbeat did also go a bit funny at one point as he got a bit distressed. I was only in hospital for 2 days, the electric bed was indeed quite handy! I got given a cot attached to my bed for DS which was quite good as i didn't have to get up and down so much.

I think I hade quite bad trapped wind and pains for a few days Blush - had to take Lactulose for a bit which they had given me in hospital.

Was on pain killers for a while too which I knew all about when i forgot a dose at first.

I also have the funny bit of tummy with some numb patches. Can't see it for fat bump right now though! My only regrets are that i was too away with it and unprepared to get the screen lowered to see baby being lifted out.

it was actually ok looking after DS, i had the cheapest changing table from Ikea though - I'd not have been able to change him on the floor so was glad we had picked it up. I should have rested a bit more though and ended up on antibiotics for a wound infection. Bfing was fine, I have a pic of DS snuggled up feeding lying beside me when i am in recovery. Actually DH took a wee video there, which I would have been Angry about at the time as I looked like crap, but loved when i found it months later as i had no memory of it!

Away to try and persuade myself to get on with my work now Blush Lucky it's a bit quiet this week, will prob get busier tomorrow though.

Ooops I did a novel there Blush

jaggythistle · 04/01/2012 17:08

oo. glad scan was good musical :)

scarletfingernail · 04/01/2012 17:24

Good to hear all is going well jaggy.

Reading your post just reminded me about the wind thing after giving birth, and I'd not even had a CS! Thank goodness I was in a private room because I could not stop parping Grin

musicalmrs · 04/01/2012 17:27

It really is such a relief scarlet. What I liked in particular is that the sonographer said that the baby looked good initially, and showed us its head and heart beating away before getting on with the measurements, so we had a bit of reassurance :) She was lovely, and gave us an extra picture too :D

After the scan, we're both thinking boy - I feel a bit conflicted now, as part of me still keeps mentally referring to it as a girl, which I was convinced of up until today, but now I'm thinking boy... confusing! I really don't mind either way though, and am trying not to think about it too much! Interesting that you got DS right, and that you have similar instinctive feelings about the new LO - will be interesting to see if you're right! :)

Now spending all my time looking for the best deals online to buy for all the bits we want, rather than getting on with my tremendous pile of work.. oops!

pomme, I can't wait for OBEM tonight! Grin Sadly I'm out til a little after 9pm, but will be hitting play as soon as I get in, and whizzing through the advert breaks to catch up :)

Glad your appointment went well jaggy!

Wants3 · 04/01/2012 17:31

Good to hear your scan went well musical. My turn tomorrow. How many of us is that now with anterior placentas? 4? Am I the only one who was told at 12 week scan? Sorry, lots of questions in a row!
I am not working tomorrow so have got to find things to do to pass the time until my appointment at 3.30. I hope there is no more adverse weather as DH is travelling on the train to meet up with me and the boys at the hospital.
Got to go and make tea now. Early bath and OBEM to watch tonight( never watched it pregnant before so will be interesting to see how I feel)

TheLittleFriend · 04/01/2012 19:07

Great scan news musical, i'm really pleased for you x

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 04/01/2012 20:12

I'm grumpy, and uncomfortable, on the bedtime battle and mn-ing on phone...

Which is playing up...
So I'll just say glad to hear the great scan and mw news musical and jaggy

jaggythistle · 04/01/2012 20:14

Aw, good luck Dream.

I am at work making life difficult for myself as usual. I drive myself nuts procrastinating/MNing and ending up here late. Blush

Hope DD settles soon. :)

jenfraggle · 04/01/2012 20:35

Glad to hear your scan went well too musical and also your mw appointment jaggy

jenfraggle · 04/01/2012 20:36

Dream's dd, go to sleep!

NinjaChipmunk · 04/01/2012 20:36

hello all, now i've read the last 2 or 3 days worth of posts and will see what I can remember
jen - glad scan was good and anterior placenta is the reason for the lack of movements.
dream - I second and third the comments re a conversation with your dh before you give up work. I can totally understand why he is a tad stressed, there's a lot going on! but that said, you need to know he sees you as a complete equal and that finances will be joint. I'll shut up about it now. good luck on the bedtime battle, how is dd feeling? Is she still poorly or on the mend yet?
lots of people finishing work soon, you lucky things. I feel for any of you with bad backs/ spd or any combination of similar things. I'm brooking no argument that you all get no worse and are all miraculously cured as soon as you've given birth.
welcome looopy and congrats on the bfp! Have you got over the shock yet?
jaggy stop procrastinating and do some work!!
well I went shopping today with my Christmas money (thanks mum and mil) and bought a top that I won't be able to wear until after the bean is born (but tried on and couldn't afford before I got pg so I know it fits and as it is a bit flippy flappy soft fabric will cover a baby belly, a lovely felted type tunic dress that goes over jeans which should fit for at least a month or so more (and will look nice next winter with no bump) and a lovely super soft scarf with little stars on it. My belly seems to be growing, especially by the end of the day! I can't wait to start feeling some movement. note to self - Must make 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow. Happy evenings all!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 04/01/2012 21:01

I'm not sure I should be watching OBEM... it's already scaring me!

NinjaChipmunk · 04/01/2012 21:08

Grin thats why I don't watch it.

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 04/01/2012 21:09

Hooray!! It sleeps!! 90 minute battle tonight with much uncomfortable sitting on landing in draughts, but my persistence will beatscre the little tike in the end!!! Apparently she's been really chirpy all day, my mum took her to playgroup, clearly on the mend!! Just the bedtime hysterics to stop now, which my lengthy inching out of her room/landing vigil will win in the end!!!

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 04/01/2012 21:18

Me neither, far too scary!!

jenfraggle · 04/01/2012 21:21

Yay dream, it's working.

Just a quicky, when do ante natal classes happen usually? I've got mw at the end of the month and will ask then if I remember but I usually come out of appointments for various things and then remember what I was going to say...

NinjaChipmunk · 04/01/2012 21:27

I had mine quite late with nct. It was at about 8 months I think as it was before I started maternity leave. If you are considering nct, check here and get in touch, they will let you know if they have space and when their courses are running. Otherwise the antenatal dept at your hospital should have info I think?

NinjaChipmunk · 04/01/2012 21:28

But yes ask your midwife as she will probably know too!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 04/01/2012 22:05

Shouldn't have watched that...

Many thanks to Loopy and Jaggy for sharing your birth stories earlier by the way. I'm petrified now of course! It's good to know the truth though... Confused

I may have changed my mind about this having a baby marlarky, where do I go to cancel my order?

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 04/01/2012 22:06

Congrats to Jaggy and Musical for the excellent scan news as well!

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 04/01/2012 22:22

scream, I've done it before and I'm petrified of either option for baby eviction too...!!! All worth it, its just one bad day. At the minute my dd is very sweet- copying everything we do- she tries to comb her own hair, brush her teeth, put the thermometer in her ear to take her temp (can tell she's been ill!), use a spoon, then try and feed me, insists on having the keys after me to lock/ unlock the doors, obsessed with trying to strap herself in to her various seats like we do- she'll try for up to 10 minutes which is amazing for her attention span!!

scarletfingernail · 04/01/2012 22:22

I just watched OBEM too scream. Thought it was a bit of a dull episode and we didn't really get to see that much of labour. It just seemed to focus on the Dads and how they were feeling. DH and I were sitting here in Shock at the young lad who didn't even hang around to find out what had actually happened in the theatre before storming out for his cig punching walls as he went. Bet that girl's mum is delighted with her DD's choice of boyfriend Hmm. Was pleased that the army lad got to see his DD born before going off to Afghanistan.

jen I only went on the NHS ante-natal classes. Mine were when I was about 7 months and the midwife gave me all the info for it at one of my check ups.
