Hi No Brookers! I do hope this has worked and is in the right place...

I've added a few extra sofas so we have plenty of space for all the Rat Smackers who will be joining us soon. There's also a nice long table filled with mince pies, yule logs, gingerbread snowmen and xmas puds! Plus some non-alcoholic mulled wine. I've strategically positioned a few clean glittery vom buckets under the table, just in case it's still a bit too early for xmas munchies for some people!

As you were...

jaggythistle · 13/12/2011 23:05

a guy at work once uttered the words 'too posh to push' in my earshot during some conversation about births and i had to use extreme restraint to not resort to violence. he's 40 odd, still lives with his parents and was no doubt just quoting it out of a crappy tabloid, so i let him off a bit. he probably doesn't know much about how you make babies, let alone how they are born.

anyway that was meant to illustrate that not only yoga teachers are annoying and spout thoughtless rubbish. Grin

as long as the process ends up with one reasonably intact mummy and at least one healthy wee baby, who gives a monkey's? :)

right, better away to bed sometime... night night.

hope DD is better soon dream. my friend's wee one was a lot better after a few bad nights i think and the mouth ones were the worst too. :(

NinjaChipmunk · 14/12/2011 08:46

hawthers I hope things are a bit less stressful in your house today.
dream same goes for you too. Poor dd, she's really been through it recently. I wouldn't bother tackling the food or sleep issues till she feels a bit better, one thing at a time I think! Hope she slept a bit better.
It's lovely to hear your bean reacts to music musical
Well one day to go till scan day. I'm already late for work and ds woke up 3 times last night. I want to go home and crawl under the duvet and watch tv.

farfallarocks · 14/12/2011 11:13

Joins imps and rubs herself all over the preggo brookers, a xmas conceived baby will be mine

ScarletFestiveFingernail · 14/12/2011 11:42

A Christmas baby will indeed be yours farfalla. There's a seat saved for you for as soon as that pee stick has confirmed.

jaggy good to hear your DS is on the mend. dream I hope your DD is feeling much better today too?

Ninja I'm brooking for your scan tomorrow, very exciting.

muscial good job your LO seems to be liking music.

Hawthers I really hope you're having a better day today, additional stress is the last thing you need right now.

scream I'm interested in the pregnancy support band. I've never had one but have also been thinking about it. My uterus feels very heavy towards the end of the day. I find myself having to hold it when I stand up or sneeze, which I don't remember having to do last time.

I've been feeling proper full on kicks for the last couple of days. It's getting stronger all the time and is such a huge relief. It's much different to last time when I was just aware of it all the time. I think because I'm run ragged most of the day doing housework, playing with DS, taking him here there and everywhere it's only when I stop and have a rest it seems to go beserk.

Biscuitsandtinsel · 14/12/2011 12:16

Far - make yourself comfy - you won't be away for long Xmas Smile.

Glad you're getting proper kicks Scarlet Xmas Smile - I've had some proper kicks again last night that even dh could feel even through my padding. Even one which to me felt as though it kicked downwards dh could feel on the outside because he said my whole front moved! So he was pretty excited about that all.

Hawthers - thinking of you too, and hoping that actually you're reading this one handed while snuggling with a newborn with the other?

Hope all the small people are doing better. Dream hope those ulcers etc clear up for your dd soon - agree with Jaggy (think it was Jaggy?) that she needs to get better before you worry about eating and sleeping too much. You know she's ill so she's not just being awkward or anything about the eating. And with the sleeping when she was briefly starting to get better she did start sleeping a bit better too didn't she so I have no doubt that normal service will be resumed as soon as she's well again. In fact I am Brooking. No. Argument about it.

Ninja - hope your DS sleeps better tonight too - am brooking hard for scan day tomorrow. What time is the appointment?

Musical - how lovely (and fortunate) that your baby seems to like the sound of music? Xmas Smile

Hope everyone else is well. I'm half panicking, half in denial about Christmas approaching. Seriously, it was October last week, I'm sure it was......

Right I need to go and speed up DS's sandwich consumption so I can ship him off to pre-school Xmas Smile

NinjaChipmunk · 14/12/2011 12:49

biscuits* the appointment is at 2.30. I'm excited and really nervous. What if I've imagined the whole thing and there's nothing there and the only reason I'm fatter is cos I eat too much????
Very glad to hear you are feeling more kicks now, and your dh seeing your whole frontage move - I can't wait to experience that again.

DeckTheHawthersWithBells · 14/12/2011 12:54

no newborn here but DS is in nursery today so the hell of yesterday has not been repeated today. think he is coming down with a rotten cold as he sounds all husky (aw too cute) but is being a little madam with it. he raged for an hour this morning about wearing a different top to teh one he had on and every time we changed it he went ballistic and wanted the other one back on again (really wish we hadn't given in at all but were just trying to diffuse teh tantrum and pick our battles but it clearly didn't work).

dream i hope you've had some rest today and your DD is feeling a bit better. as everyone else has said after thsi surely she'll have a cracking immune system. re the hosp appt - DH is generally very concerned about DS due to all the issues we've had so far but mostly about gettign him into the 'right' school year. he was born by elcs on 27 august so he is only 4 bloody days away from being in the right school year that he was due in (due in Oct). all consultants have advised us to put him into the school year that he should have been in but i'm gathering this is goign to require a near lifetime of struggling and fighting to get him into the 'right' year. just totally depressing teh long reachign effects of teh shitty first pregnancy that we had. grump grump grump.

biscuits and scarlet good to hear about the monster kicks - got a veritable mexican wave going on over here which i never got last time so it has been most amusing. DH is playing guess the body part at the wiggling now.

ninja hope the scan has gone well - will keep an eye out for an update if you can later x

pommedenoel · 14/12/2011 12:57

Good to see you farfalla, hurry back soon.

What is it about toddlers and sleep currently? Is anyone on this thread with little ones getting any sleep at the moment? DD and I engaged in a stand off between midnight and 1.15 last night. I won until 6.30am.

First timers - how are you not terrified by these night time horror stories?!

Brooking for hawthers for a better day and an imminent quick, easy labour!

Biscuitsandtinsel · 14/12/2011 13:01

DS sleeps like a dream - pretty much always has.

ScarletFestiveFingernail · 14/12/2011 13:40

Biscuits we've luckily never had any sleeping problems with DS either. However, I'm reluctant to shout it from the rooftops, I can't believe we'd be this lucky a second time. I'm sure it is just down to luck after all. The way that pomme and dream have described their bedtime routines are no different from ours. That said he is only in a toddler bed still, I've no idea how he'll cope when he goes into a full size single in the new year. I've heard others say that they never had any problems until they made that transition.

Biscuitsandtinsel · 14/12/2011 13:53

Ah yes I'm not counting my chickens for this next baby either! And I agree - I think it's a luck thing - as you say we all seem to have similar routines etc. There's just no way to tell. Lots of my friends have done similar stuff to us and had troubles ranging from occasional problems to every night problems

DH was a great sleeper as a baby but his younger brother was terrible. I mean really awful. And they had exactly the same routines etc in place. His poor parents used to have to take shifts so that his mum could get some sleep as he would literally cry all the time, for like 2 years - yikes!!!

My mother is insistent that those with sleep troubles are doing 'something wrong' which I think is rubbish. But then she thinks she did everything right and is quite competitive about it all. She takes great delight if DS sleeps in later at her house than ours (DH and I think that when that happens it might be because he has mild hypothermia because their house is so cold Wink)

But for my Mum there is only her way of doing things. If this baby isn't a natural sleeper the only upside will be being able to demonstrate to my mum that it can in fact be luck of the draw!

Anyway - I think a lot of the cutter sleep things are illness related which is different anyway. And will all be fixed as soon a they're all back healthy again. Which will be SOON. Fact.

jaggythistle · 14/12/2011 14:03

i would totally be out of bed if DS asked for snuggles biscuits. I'm off for a week and getting in all the cuddles i can. Grin

touching lots of wood too, he's been a pretty good sleeper for at least the past 6 months. even before that it only went to pot when he was ill or teething.

i was quite lazy and always fed and/or cuddled him to sleep, until he stopped wanting to be cuddled to sleep. i did start a bedtime story before his last feed when he was about 8 months old, and did the same story for about a year which he really got the hang of. he gets to pick the story now, he always tries to get me to do about 3 though! hope he still sleeps ok when he gets his toddler bed for Christmas!

good luck for scan tomorrow ninja. it's such a relief to see a baby and know you've not imagined it! Grin

brooking no argument for your imminent pain free sneeze birth hawthers and poor DS getting over his cold.

kicks are getting fairly vigorous here too, must be a busy wee baby in there.

NinjaChipmunk · 14/12/2011 14:34

Thanks jaggy
My ds is not so bad a sleeper I suppose. He doesn't stay awake if he wakes up, its usually because he wants a drink but won't get out of bed to get it off his table as he's scared of the dark (even though he has a nightlight). Also he sleeps with the entire duvet on top of him in a heap for some reason and when he gets too hot he either has nightmares or just cries in his sleep till you go in and rearrange him. I wish he would learn to sleep with the duvet normally as I think that is what causes most problems. I also am deciding whether to buy a cup holder to hang on his bed so he can drink himself without having to get me up?

jazzy283 · 14/12/2011 15:27

Afternoon Ladies i have been off here for a few weeks as i need to focus on me and the sad stories i kept reading was worrying me sick about my own pregnancy :( i am not coming up to the end of the 1st trimester yayyyyyyy and have my first dating scan on 28th also to include NT Scan, i know most of you ladies are a bit further on than me but did any of you feel a major panic attack coming on at the thought of not all being well, so far i have had a pretty uneventful pregnancy no sickness or feeling sick very sore boobies but most days feel ok, im not really majorly tired a bit more than usual but not although i am constantly hungry :( i lost 7lb since i found out im pregnant (think that has more to do with the lack of rose drinking lol ) midwife thinks all is fine has anyone else experienced this? i just dont feel pregnant and getting myself all worried xx :) :)

DizzyKipper · 14/12/2011 15:30

Hi all, sorry I've been AWOL for so long - with working 12 days a fortnight now including evenings and then having to walk the dog, cook dinner and try to keep up on housework I just really don't seem to have the time for anything other than transitory threads that I don't need to keep up to date with Sad. Hope you've all been well though, and just to confirm 12 week scan showed a healthy, hiccuping baby so everything progressing nicely here Smile

musicalmrs · 14/12/2011 15:57

Dizzy, congrats on the great scan :)

Dream, how's DD doing today?

Good luck for tomorrow Ninja :)

Not feeling too great here. Have had what could easily be an upset stomach for the last couple of days - got worse yesterday evening, and has waivered today. Feeling achey, hot/cold and rubbish too - urk! If it continues into tomorrow I might phone the GP, just because the (TMI!) constant toilet trips are becoming quite painful Xmas Blush I probably haven't helped myself by going into school today, but it was the kids' Christmas concert - any other day and I'd have called in sick!

It's the worst I've felt in a long time, so ended up doing a lot of tv watching last night - watched "My kids aren't perfect" or whatever it is, and one of my previous students was on it! Xmas Shock

I'm not sure if the LO loved or hated the music yesterday. Obviously I'm hoping for loved - or else they're going to have a very tough 18+ years! Xmas Grin Then again, it was the oboe, which isn't to everyone's taste..!

Biscuitsandtinsel · 14/12/2011 16:12

Dizzy - yay for a great scan Smile

Jazzy - what you're saying sounds completely normal - there is no rhyme or reason to symptoms and any appearance / change in / reduction in symptoms freaks you out terribly. I know that's not much help but you're not alone! Still at least you have a date to work to for when you can see your jumping bean on the screen!

Musical hope you're feeling better soon - try and rest my lovely xx

pommedenoel · 14/12/2011 17:29

Yay for dizzy and good luck to Ninja!
Jazzy - try not to worry but I think we've all been there. When is your scan?

Past 4/5 months dd was a good sleeper until the last few nights when she's been moved in a single bed.. Now I'm very jealous of the good sleepers, the memory of sleep fades fast! That's a very cute duvet story biscuits!

jazzy283 · 14/12/2011 17:44

pomme 28th @3;30

Thanks ladies xx

GenericDietCola · 14/12/2011 17:51

Jazzy try not to worry - I agree with Biscuits - it's hard not to over-analyse it all (I do the same) but it's best to trust that things will be OK. Not long til the scan now!

Dizzy so happy you had a good scan result! Will you be telling people over Christmas?

Musical sorry you are feeling rough and I hope you get better soon. After my DD being sick at the weekend, DH seemed to have similar yesterday (sounds like what you've got so you have my sympathies), so I had to come home from work (he's a SAHD) to pick up DD from playgroup and look after her in the afternoon while he rested. In between all of that I still had to try and fit in a full day's work - not easy! Luckily I have the constitution of an ox!

How is your DD today Dream?

I've changed my mind re an early scan and have phoned my dr today to ask if they will put me forward for one before my booking in. She said all along I could have one, but I've been trying not to worry and just wait for the 13 week scan, but that just seems so far away. I'd rather know before Christmas as well so that while I'm being all mysterious and sober I know it's for a good cause! Sorry for being a bit morbid, but today my brooking spirit has deserted me somewhat. Symptoms still strong, so no real reason for me to worry, but still...

Biscuitsandtinsel · 14/12/2011 18:00

Generic I don't blame you on the scan front - the wait seems sooooo long and especially if you know they'll let you have one - it's so tempting!

Don't you worry though - we'll take care of the brooking for you no worries! Have a night off! Smile

GenericDietCola · 14/12/2011 18:08

Thanks Biscuits! Glad you are getting some proper kicks now - can't wait to feel that again! I loved watching arms and legs poke out of my belly!

dreamfeeder · 14/12/2011 18:19

Hello all,

I'm not long home from work, and dd will want me (just finishing her tea with daddy so I slipped off). A much better night- she was only up a few times, but each time took me about 45 min cuddling to get her back to sleep, plus I was plagued by reflux, so not a great night for either of us. Result of two bad nights, of course, the dreaded puking returns. Embarrassing puking-in-school incident, typically when I was looking at toilet access with a 10 year old so he and his teaching assistant and the Occupational Therapist were all in the next door loo with the grab rails. Said 10 year old cheerfully informed me "we all heard you being sick!" Thanks....

DD's face blisters look bad, as do her mouth ones, but ? bit more cheerful?? Fingers crossed for a better night for her- but it's daddy looking after her tomorrow so I don't have to get up anyway! Which is good, as I still think I'm going to be sick, and am exhausted.

jazzy, great you've got a date, I'm 29th for my next so I'll remember yours! It will be absolutely fine- there were many of us on here terrified of our first scan, regardless of symptoms- despite my mega-puking and weight loss and exhaustion, I still thought there'd be nothing there... There will of course be a baby or two, I may be a bit obsessed with twins

Hi dizzy, fabulous to see a healthy wriggling bean!

generic, hooray, I want to know if you're having twins!!!!! or triplets!!! It will of course be fine... you're here aren't you!?

pomme, I had an quite-good sleeping baby, often doing 12 hour stretches, or at least 10, til the last 3 months of The Pestilence at Chez Dream.... It's been so long I'm worried it won't go back to normal. Nothing I can do about the eating or sleeping nw, you can't leave a wailing ill baby in the eevning or at night, or try and give nothign else to eat IMO. Better go, she's howling now, as having face wiped- v sore when covered in big blisters.... Sad

dreamfeeder · 14/12/2011 18:20

oh- and staff meeting today- boring, and I saw 2 people watching the babies kicking through my bump!!!!!

NinjaChipmunk · 14/12/2011 21:27

evening, I had a phonecall from the midwife today, does anyone know anything about blood platelets? Apparently mine came back low and need to be retested in 4 weeks time. She didn't seem to think it was too much of an issue but apparently it can cause cause problems with your blood clotting if it gets too low? And now of course by telling me not to worry, I am worrying.
