Sorry I meant hawthers not Tyel! Pregnabrain!

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 28/11/2011 19:48

figgy - dc2 is already down on the waiting list for a childminder for next November when I go back to work. DS goes there the three days a week that I work, and it's great there, so the new baby will also go to the same place. Then, when I'm back at work there'll only be one place to collect them from. DS will still be going there a bit even though I'm on maternity leave, as he'll have a lot of changes in his life with a sibling, and we wanted him to have some continuity.

Kri5ty - best wishes! Very exciting times Smile

jomouse · 28/11/2011 19:57

Babes and births coming up. Terribly exciting!
Thinking of you Kri5ty - let us know how the epidural goes. Wishing you all the best for a speedy birth :)

Who will be next???

BluebellsintheSpring · 28/11/2011 19:59

Hi all - have been off the thread for the last day because we had a bit of a scare with new niece Sophie who ended up in ICU for most of yesterday and today. Good news is, it was just a blip and she's moving back to the ward tonight! So, all good.

Go Kri5ty - glad things are under way for you!

I am going for longish walks every day now which are uncomfortable but I keep hoping they'll have some impact. The minute I start walking, I get BHs and they seem to get increasingly intense. Every time I think oh, maybe something is starting, only for it all to stop again when I get home. Argh..

On the Epi-No front, I have been very ineffectual - I regularly had it at 7cms and then didn't to it for about 5 days as really hate the thing! Did it today and only managed 6 although it was a thoroughly half-hearted effort. Don't think I'm quite determined enough on that front!

Xiaoxiong · 28/11/2011 20:00

That's ok mmmcheese, I was actually going to ask you and hawthers if that kind of development review is standard for 2 year olds in the UK.

We're really lucky with the childcare thing - I'm going back to work on 1 July, which is a week after DH goes off for summer holidays. So he'll be a SAHD until the beginning of Sept which will really ease my way back into work I hope - not having to both get used to being back to work full time as well as getting our heads round childcare.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 28/11/2011 20:09

I'm retiring to a bath and bed so tired after being awake since 3am.

night ladies

Mmmmcheese · 28/11/2011 20:11

tyel I don't really know if there is a standard 2 year developmental review, DS only had it because he has cerebral palsy (mild).

sotired we're also keeping DS at the childmindet for 3 days (a) to keep the continuity (b) to hold his place for when I go back to work and (c) because I'm freaked out about how to cope with a toddler and newborn on my own for 5 days a week!

aethelfleda · 28/11/2011 20:33

nope tyel, there used to be something called a Developmental check at aged 2-2 and a half, carried out by whichever local GP had an interest in pediatrics. It's since been shown that it picks up very little pathology, as all the children with stuff wrong with them are generally flagged up by mum (and the mums who didn't tended to not attend the development check either!) So as with all of these things the funding for a routine doc review was removed. Nowadays most places in the UK when baby hits two, you get a health visitor letter/leaflet saying "now your child's two they should be doing x/y/z, they might be able to do a/b/c/ and a few of them will do 1/2/3. If they're not doing x/y/z by now please discuss with your doctor. "

There are still newborn pediatric checks and a 6-8 week check as these ARE useful in picking up physical/early developmental problems, the rest is reliant on mum noticing a problem or the GP/health visitor raising an issue when the child is seen for other reasons. If you're ever bothered about something, raise it with them (and if they are worried they can refer to paediatrics either NHS or privately for you).

AwomancalledHorse · 28/11/2011 20:38

Good luck Kri5ty!

Darcies, hope the bath & bed is successful..this past week I've felt so drained I've been sleeping at least 12hrs a day.

I'm having trouble moving atm, the second I stand up I get sharp pains in my lady bits that last until I sit back down again...so not having much luck getting out and walking about!

LittleMissHumbuggery · 28/11/2011 20:55

Today I have mostly procrastinated.

Tomorrow I will procrastinate and go to the vet with the puss-ridden puss.

Tonight I am making chicken curry soup as I want comfort food:)

msbuggywinkle · 28/11/2011 21:13

Just popping on to say I hope everyone manages more sleep tonight!

DP's Nana is in hospital again, so he is really emotional this evening. Am going to make him hot chocolate now and we're going to curl up in front of Masterchef. :(

mopsytop · 28/11/2011 21:17

Oooh good luck kri5ty!!

sevensevenseven · 28/11/2011 21:34

Good luck kristy, another one on the way!

msbuggy hope she gets better soon.

I'm feeling a bit :(, I've decided to stop EBFing Eva as she seemed to be starving on my milk. She'd been taking 30ml consistently of formula before my milk came in and when she was only having a little breastmilk. Yesterday she was having all breast, she took 40ml at 2pm, 40ml at 4pm, 30ml at 5.15pm, then 50ml at 8.15. By 9pm I was completely empty and she was still hungry so she took 60(!)ml of formula. I've put her back on formula and she's been fine since, going 3hours between feeds again and much more contented. I'm a bit gutted as I wanted to BF but at least she's had some breastmilk which is more than I achieved with DS.

Anyway, we had our first outing, with Eva in the wrap, much better than having her in a pram! I knew she was warm enough with DH's cost wrapped around both of us, and people could easily look at her without leaning right into the pram which really bothered me with DS.

LittleMissHumbuggery · 28/11/2011 21:55

Don't be too :( with yourself seven You're making decisions that are right for you and yours. Glad you enjoyed your outing:)

NorthernChinchilla · 28/11/2011 21:55

Just wanted to add to the general 'go kri5ty' vibes on this thread too, and hope the cafe's nice and conducive to dilation Confused!

No-one mentioned this element of giving birth over the past few months....

Sorry you're feeling down seven, but it's great that you've managed to give Eva some breastmilk. I hope she remains contented and that you all enjoyed your first trip out as a family, sounds blissful!

PullyWoolOver · 28/11/2011 21:56

Go kristy! Thinking of you Smile

Night all, hope sleep pays us a visit tonight

OiMissus · 28/11/2011 22:39

My tum is showing no signs of popping, but my feet are so swollen this evening that my skin may burst. Does that count? They are truly massive and gross. Sad

OP posts:
LittleMissHumbuggery · 28/11/2011 23:23

My tum is making weird popping noises... The octopus is either possessed of a popcorn maker or has a school of dolphins in there clicking away at each other!

My asthma has kicked off. I can't stop wheezing. It's not bad, just annoying. Every time I lie down I start to cough.

It reminded me to put some inhalers in my labour bag though. So if you take regular meds I urge you to put spares in yours too:)

Thus endeth the public service announcement. Normal programming will resume in 10... 9... 8...

sazzermol · 28/11/2011 23:30

Positive dilating vibes from here kri5ty ! Hope the canteen proves a suitable environment for progression Hmm
Think you were my original EDD buddy so I'm a bit worried now...... Have SOoooo much to do!

BeeMyBaby · 29/11/2011 00:12

Good luck kri5ty! Getting more and more jealous with the announcements!.

How come people already have induction letters before their due dates have passed?

AwomancalledHorse · 29/11/2011 02:25

Angry The one day this week I tried getting to sleep early and there has been bloody emergency road works since 9.30pm, grrrrh!!

LittleMiss, I have visions of you giving birth to a school of dolphins now!

Sorry you had to stop bf seven, glad you had a successful first time out.

LittleMissHumbuggery · 29/11/2011 07:52

The size I am I wouldn't rule it out as a vague possibility AWCH Wink

plupervert · 29/11/2011 08:59

I should have known the old thread wouldn't go quiet just like that, but it just didn't occur to me that we had got to 1000 yet!

Can't read now, as have to go out to see last preschool. Midwife and 38week appointment later, too.

However, I'll have a catchup later in the day (and see who else has popped).

Bon courage!

msbuggywinkle · 29/11/2011 09:10

awch how annoying!

seven sorry you're having problems, it sounds like she has started cluster feeding in the evenings which is totally normal.

Apparently me coming on to spread sleep vibes worked for me anyway, slept like the proverbial log until 6.30, got up to pee then straight back to sleep until 8.30!

Sadly, DP turned off his alarm rather than snoozing it so at 8.30 I was woken (& so were both DDs!) by him yelling 'oh shit!' and flinging himself around the house to get ready. And as happens on a regular basis when he is stressed...he fell down the stairs. He managed to cut his hand and is not good with blood so I had to get up to make sure he didn't faint! He's left now finally, I am enjoying the calm and a coffee.

Plan for the day, lots of crochet and going to pick pick up the birth pool this afternoon!

fusam · 29/11/2011 09:19

go go Kristy!

BlueBell Hope all is well with your DN now.

I feel so rough today. Got cold symptoms and also an explosive dicky tummy, yuck. No sleep last night either. I am staying in bed all day and sending DD to nursery. Gutted as I had such energy in the last couple of days was running around doing loads, guess I over did it.

What's everyone up to today?
