Hello :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dreamfeeder · 29/10/2011 20:29

Well biscuits, there's weekend swimming with DH to take one of your DC, or, hmmm... My parents both live 50 miles away and tend to come up once a week (in the week) to help while I've been bad with the puking but 2 adults still wouldn't be enough. The other problem is where I take DD is lovely, a swimming pool at a hall type place (a bible school there no less!) which is 18m, really warm, murals on the walls etc but only offers very limited sessions on set days eg parent and toddler- which DD loves- is Tuesday 1pm-1:50pm. Think there's about 3 other general sessions we could potentially go to... I could look into other pools, but think most are pretty cold from other mums reports and was happy with there. I think I will look into a playgroup of some sort DD can go to without me Sad. I hope there's one locally. How do you find out about these things?! My twins thread is mostly ante-natal, I could look on the multiple birrths board. There are a few people who've had their babies, one girl has just had her boy/girl DCDA twins at 30 weeks so they're both still in SCBU so not swimming yet, and the other who's had them has been with her DH and DS once for a hour while her parents had her twin girls, but they're only 4 weeks old so also too little really. If you can see what your friend's friend does that's be useful! porbably doesn't go!!

We had a look at isofix car seats for the twins today in a shop in Kendal... £225 for the car seat and base I want, each, expensive business, but I think it'll genuinely make twins easier so I think I'll persuade DH to invest... Let's not even think about the car and double/triple pushchair yet... And there was us thinking we'd carry the baby in a sling and buy nothing and wait and see if we needed a double!!!! How wrong we were!!

dreamfeeder · 29/10/2011 20:30

p.s biscuits, unless you report changes in the next day or 2, my money's still on anterior placenta! And yes, it's just til they're a bit bigger, then pokey indeed... Grin

dreamfeeder · 29/10/2011 20:31

Oh that's a good idea! Total Fatness Fitness near us has shut own, but I could look into gyms. We're not gym members though, could be pricey

and where the heck's my curry?!

DizzyKipper · 29/10/2011 20:36

Very [henvy] at all this take-away curry going on tonight. OH is cooking us a 5-bean chilli which is normally great but which I'm not particularly feeling up to tonight (having extreme hunger pangs at the same time as feeling far too full to be eating anything and also getting nausea).

That is sad about the swimming dream, if you don't have family or friends who could come with you is it possible to get some one that works there or hire a babysitter or something for the session?

wants are those pictures actual photos at each stage? It's one of my obsessions, constantly looking at sites to see how the lo is developing and also at actual photos of babies at similar stages - I just find it so fascinating. Tomorrow the little kipper's heart should start beating Smile

Wants3 · 29/10/2011 20:56

Yes they aredizzy sort of like a 4d scan but clearer! I was amazed at how early everything is in place! I try and resist looking forward until the Tuesday!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 29/10/2011 21:28

Hiya! Sorry to hear about the swimming dilemma Dream. I'm afraid as a clueless newbie I have no helpful suggestions Sad I hope you manage to resolve it though. I imagine TAMBA has local groups for twin mums? Perhaps you'll make friends with local twin mums who know the best places to go?

Also very intrigued to hear that Scarlet is already feeling movement! We're at the same stage! I'm a little apprehensive about feeling movement, and didn't realise it would be an issue so soon! I'm hoping the reality will be nicer than it sounds in theory, but my mum recently told me she hated feeling something moving around inside her through all of her pregnancies! So I guess not everyone likes it!

We're back from the Baby Show and it was incredibly helpful! The biggest advantage was probably getting DH to talk seriously about lots of practical issues which he's been burying his head in the sand about so far. Another high point was falling in love with a pram! I'd been focused on the Stokke and Bugaboo Cameleon up until now, just because of relative recommendations. However we weren't convinced by either of those. Then we met the iCandy Peach - instant love affair!! Even DH was excited about it! It doesn't have the height of the Stokke unfortunately, but we found it better in all other ways. Yum yum yum! Didn't buy it then tho, it's too early. We'll check out prices in other places, but possibly buy it when we go to the next Baby Show in Feb.

Just to add to the takeaway talk, we had fish & chips tonight - delish! Still envious of the curries tho!

dreamfeeder · 29/10/2011 22:06

I am wearing out the stairs with going up to crying DD. i literally have time to sit down before I'm up again....

DH is being an arse. Maybe because he's lost the car keys, maybe because he's just being an arse.

dreamfeeder · 29/10/2011 22:07

scream, it's generally nice, just less so when they're really big and it can hurt when they kick somewhere tender! I thought I'd miss it once I had DD but I was far too busy with her to miss it!!!!

NinjaChipmunk · 29/10/2011 23:06

evening all, no curry for us tonight, that was last night!
dream I can also report my pg with ds was symptom and trouble free and I really enjoyed it. Possibly partly because I was a bit more naive about things but also because it happened quickly. This time I am so much more aware of the what ifs that I'm not sure how I'll deal with it. Only 5+1 though so got plenty of time!
Sorry to hear your dh is being an arse and you're permanently up and down the stairs. Hope she's sleeping now...
Can't believe some of you are feeling movement already, how very exciting!

DizzyKipper · 30/10/2011 06:27

Hmm, not quite sure if we mean the same thing wants, here's some that I love to look at - it's so amazing that they could get such clear, high quality photos of something so tiny.

week 5

week 6

Scream that baby show sounds really fun - and also great for getting the partners to have to think about things. Think I may start looking for shows around my area now.

dream hope your DD is sleeping now and the stairs haven't been worn out completely. How long has it been now that your DD has been sick?

dreamfeeder · 30/10/2011 08:20

A week and a half of an ill dd. It deteriorated last night. From 10pm I managed to get her to sleep in bed with me once, but she woke up coughing and that was it til 3am... I am a zombie walking today. Plus since I've left her to go to work 2 weeks ago she won't have daddy, becomes hysterical. So I feel guilty about leaving her too, never had separation anxiety like this before...

Anyway, more little, low down movements last night. Think it's one or both babies, even though I'm only 15+3. They were measuring a couple of days ahead last Monday so they may be nearer 16 week size...

dreamfeeder · 30/10/2011 08:23

Oh wow, amazing pics dizzy

Biscuitsandtea · 30/10/2011 08:28

Oh Dream I meant to say - be careful with a lot of normal multivitamin supplements - a lot of them say not suitable in pg. Not sure why, but just read the label Smile

So sorry dd is worse again - so wish you could just have a nap xx

musicalmrs · 30/10/2011 09:11

Morning! How is everyone?

Dream, so sorry DD had another bad night. Hope she improves again before your work week starts... Also, surely there must be some pools with systems for taking twins swimming? Have you tried asking your friend with twins? (though I know her twins are older). Movement sounds so exciting!

Biscuits and Dream, they say most multivitamins aren't suitable due to their inclusion of vitamin A. While you can have vit A while pregnant, you shouldn't have too much... hence it being wise not to have a multivit with it in, I believe.

Dizzy, lovely pictures! I find it fascinating too, so have been studying the photos, and giving DH an update of what our LO can do each week. That being said, our first scan was after the heart -normally- starts beating, and it hadn't, which was rather scary.... luckily all was fine, it was just taking its time! :)

Glad you had a good time at the baby show Scream! We decided not to go, partly because it was one of our precious days off together, and because it would take us soooooo long to get there! I did take DH into Mothercare on Fri instead, as I wanted to look at their maternity sale - managed to get him talking prams too! Showed him the type I wanted, and he tried to prove to me that a travel system isn't necessarily a bad idea... as he then failed to be able to work out how to put it back together! We looked at car seats as well, but won't be buying anything like that until after Christmas I think, so we have some time to think about it. Also got him thinking names over the last couple of days - doing well!

Wants - I always look at the developmental week ahead - can't resist! ;) I look at where the baby should be on the Tues (also the beginning of my new week), then look at the next Tues, so I know what will be developing over the week!

Had my midwife booking in appointment yesterday. So many questions! On the plus side, lovely midwife - who I will see throughout (unless she disappears on holiday!) and who would be present if I have a home birth, not that that's likely. She's probably going to book me an appointment with a consultant because of the bulge in the disc in my spine, just in case it would interfere with an epidural or a spinal, but other than that all went fine. Also gave me the NHS Pregnancy Book, which looks great, and I look forward to reading through.

My only other bit of exciting news (which is probably only exciting to me) is that I finally know where my uterus is, after consistently feeling it in the same place for a couple of days - hurrah! Rising, and popping out a bit, so it's contributing to at least some of my bump, though not most of it.

Wants3 · 30/10/2011 11:14

Hi,musical we seem to be very close in our pregnancies. I am 10+5 (11 weeks tues) my first scan is on the 16th Nov so I will be 12+ 6! I am due on 22/5/12 unless my scan says otherwise! My babies came early so hoping this one follows same pattern although I have been told that 3rd babies are notoriously akward!

musicalmrs · 30/10/2011 11:33

Very close Wants - I'm 12 weeks on Tuesday! And I'll be 12 + 6 for my scan, on the 7th! How bizarre! It being my first though, who knows when it'll decide to make an appearance...

dreamfeeder · 30/10/2011 11:56

I always assumed DD would be 2 weeks late musical! In the end she was 4 days late- not that she'd have come without induction, and not that they'd have induced me then without PROM. The consultant said I definitely won't be allowed to go past 39 weeks, and maybe not past 38.. I should go and adjust my due date on the stats thread Grin

We're in a dilemma as seen the car seats we want (maxi-cosi easyfix base plus cabriofix seats) on offer in Halfords, which, when buying 2 of both would save us maybe £100 if not a bit more compared to the shop I looked in recently.... To buy or not to buy... Also, in the next village there is a Seat Alhambra for sale, a really good price, the guy seems really genuine about his reason for sale (had an op, not worked since, sick pay stops next month so need to downsize to a small super cheap car). Now car seats is one thing, buying the big, petrol-hungry, seat-generous people carrier that we absolutely wouldn't need if we weren't having twins seems a big step but it's there now, and far more affordable than anything else we've seen on autotrader or in dealerships.... I just still don't dare believe I'm having twins! I'd prefer to wait til I'm 24 weeks to buy anything at all, but why spend an extra £100 on the same products once the offer's finished- argh!!

I have discovered you can buy carry cots for the BabyJogger City Mini Double (and City Mini single of course). Totally swayed, its small, a doddle to fold, great sun hoods- why look at any other double now!!! Plus it's way, way cheaper than anything else we'd consider-like the city select or the Bugaboo donkey etc Also going to hope for help in the first month after the twins are born with carrying, and then have DD and one twin in the buggy and carry one twin in a Boba 3G babycarrier or the babybjorn rather than go for a massive triple pushchair, though I'm not totally decided on that yet. All this talk of the Baby Show has got me equipment obsessed!!!!

scarletfingernail · 30/10/2011 12:54

dream that's the same car seat and base we have. So easy to use with a fixed base, I'm sure it will help when you've got 3 to get in the car.

scream I didn't feel any flickers with DS until I was 18 weeks and it was another 3-4 weeks after until I felt proper kicks. It might only because I already know what it feels like early on that I'm aware of it this time. As I mentioned before I wasn't entirely sure that's what it was when I was having DS, but this time it's a familiar feeling but certainly not very obvious yet.

dream good to hear you're feeling a bit of squirming as well.

Biscuits I'm sure it won't be too long for you now. At least you know everything's ok which is the important thing.

Lovely to have an extra hour in bed this morning what with the clocks going back. Shame it made no difference to DS waking up, but DH got up with him so I made the most of it. Was also nice to not be hungover after going to the wedding last night.

Biscuitsandtea · 30/10/2011 15:29

Oooh, Dream we had the maxi cosi too and the Isofix base - it was great. And I could use the car seat on the bugaboo wheels as well which was super helpful - is that an option with your city jogger doo dah?

I think you speak a lot of sense about just getting a double buggy. Don't forget dd is getting older all the time so you might find at some times she'll be happy to walk and you can have both twins in the pushchair. Especially once she gets to 2+ and the twins are 6mths ish.

Is there any option for a buggy board on your pushchair of choice?

I do think that a triple pushchair might be a bit unwieldy, and then as dd gets older you'd be left with a triple pushchair when the twins still needed it and dd didn't anymore (iyswim).

Also if you're out all together, you could always take the double and the single if you still have it?

You're right scarlet - hopefully it won't be long until I get some movements here, but it is certainly reassuring to have been checked out last week. 12 more sleeps to my scan now - and then we'll fond out if it is the placenta or my extra padding that's stopping me feeling anything!!

Hope everyone else is well xx

scarletfingernail · 30/10/2011 16:03

Biscuits it is not your extra padding! I have far more of that than you. I'm sure it must be your placenta.

scarletfingernail · 30/10/2011 16:06

Blush Biscuits I've just realised what I've done as soon as I clicked post message.

For everyone else who's reading and thinking how on earth does scarlet know she has more padding than Biscuits it's because we've discovered only very recently that our paths have crossed many times in the past. Our DS's used to do the same activity in the same group at the same time. (Small world). So we've ended up outing ourselves to each other.

Biscuitsandtea · 30/10/2011 16:30

S'ok Scarlet Grin

dreamfeeder · 30/10/2011 16:39

I think you're right about the pushchair biscuits, the triple I'm looking is toddler seat on top of the double, and you'd just take it off though. It's huge though, and prob unwieldy- its the ABC Everest double plus toddler seat if anyone has an opinion- someone linked to it in here and said their childminder has it, can't remember in my sleep deprived state. Maybe dizzy, or wants...?? I wouldn't use a car seat on a pushchair. They can only be in a car seat for an hour and a half or so, plus I'm sensitive about it, paediatric physio, can't have my babies in car seats more than necessary!!! We see loads of flat head syndrome etc, which if nothing on xray is positional and car seats are the biggie cause-wise!!! Hence is never have a travel system.

How lovely you two know each other in RL!!!!

dreamfeeder · 30/10/2011 17:03

Oh, and the cabriofix plus easy fix (or familyfix) base gets a Which? Best buy in independent crash testing, so I'm sorted :-) though we just met friends for a walk along the river and she says i can have her britax baby seat and base which is similar, and base goes in belted or isofix too so only need one now... Don't like the britax as much, but is free so i know what Dh thinks!!!!! And what sense should tell me...

Biscuitsandtea · 30/10/2011 17:05

Ah Dream I totally agree about the time limit in the car seat - I was very very conscious of the 1 hr thing and applied it rigidly. I literally used to use the car seat on the wheels if I was just nipping out and into one shop. So we'd perhaps drive to a shop, nip in and out again and back home. Or if it was a bit of a walk from where we were parking to where we were going, so I didn't have to lug the car seat too far, or carry ds without the car seat and lots of bags or whatever. Anything longer and we used the proper pram.

I don't think a travel system would have suited us either - I loved my bugaboo Smile. DS used to sleep really well in the pram bit Smile
