Hello :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
scarletfingernail · 26/10/2011 15:36

dream that's one of my worst fears. The poor little boy, I assume he's completely ok now? At least your DH will know whether it's an emergency situation or not. We're clueless, so tend to panic and assume the worst.

I think the runs with Nurofen is a common side-effect. It works brilliantly at bringing the temperature down though doesn't it. I can remember last time DS was ill with an infection, he was on calpol, Nurofen, penicillin and just sitting parping away but each parp seemed to be a follow through. I felt like crawling into bed and hiding until it was all over. [bad mother emotion]

pommedechocolat · 26/10/2011 16:04

Ooooh on the nurofen scarlet. That explains several unexplained things over the past year or so.

Yay for dizzy and biscuits.

How is she now dream? Hope she's continuing to improve, sounds really tough, it seems like none of you have slept in weeks (apart from the twins of course!). Don't worry about your weight, just do your best to get things in you. You cannot do more than that. Also remember that even if you vomit quite soon after eating some of the calories and nutrients will have been absorbed.

We moved when dd was 7 weeks old. Dh's work had gone mental post 2 weeks off after her birth so I all of it myself (including negotiating on price which I did quite enjoy having control of!). It did nearly do me in though and that was only up the road really. This one would be a proper across the country move - gulp! Am trying to hint to dh that heavily pg much, much better than with newborn but he's pretty stressed about it all already.

Come on then jaggy - tell all!

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 26/10/2011 17:46

Hello people! Have been entertaining guests, hence radio silence. Am currently all hostessed out and hiding in bedroom pretending to nap.

Biscuits and Dizzy, am Brooking like mad for you both and hoping you won't need it. At least you have both had reassuring medical visits. Biscuits, hope you have had no more blood and that LO starts kicking soon. Do you know if your placenta is anterior?

Dream, you poor thing, you sound exhausted! I hope DD gets better soon

DizzyKipper · 26/10/2011 19:06

Smile at hawther's speech to the little kipper. I have a feeling this one is going to keep me constantly on my toes. Curious about what a TENS machine does?

Love glad the scan went ok.

Sad about the migraine's scream, but the clocks will be going back soon so that'll help - and the sun (or October) can't last for much longer (how often is it that you say that!)

pomme that's frustrating about the timing, would it be possible to get some family and friends to help you? If not removal companies also offer packing services nowadays. Also maybe time to just say instead of hinting that you want to move when pregnant, not when you've got a newborn - which definitely seems the much harder of the 2 situations.

dream poor you, what an awful night! I really hope things will pick up and stay that way soon, you are doing so well as it must be so unbelievably stressful, especially the feeling of helplessness. And yes being admitted was quite stressful (particularly when A&E had told me I was going over there for a scan, not to be taken in). I was quite close to refusing to stay, got a bit emotional Blush

Biscuits hoorah for the heartbeat, has it helped to put your mind at ease?

I'm sorry I think I missed where you said about a trip? Was it business or a fun one?

Also don't think I mentioned it. The cause of my pain was actually the corpus luteum, she didn't see any cysts but did say there seemed to be some excess fluid from them that was probably causing some bruising (or something like that, was a bit phased at the time). Also got a scan booked for a week Monday, should hopefully hear the heartbeat and can start to relax a little more.
I also told work about it (I really don't like to lie if I can help it), they were actually really nice about it and happy for us, so that's good Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 26/10/2011 19:44

Right, evening all.

Sorry for radio silence - spent day with my mum so no MNing time Sad

Let's see if I can remember everything:

Dizzy - oh my goodness - how traumatic being kept in. So glad everything is as it should be and they've booked you in for another scan. Brooking away for you my lovely xx

Dream what a terrible might you had - I would have been beside myself. I guess with DH being medical you know he'd clock it if there was something super worrying, but even so - I think you are coping amazingly with this. You are superwoman, and this is the reason I know that 3 under 18 months isn't even going to phase you! glad your dd has managed a yogurt today. How is the rash looking now? Thinking of you all and brooking like mad xx

Ummm, I'm starting to forget the other things that have happened on here today.....

I dinners to say thank you all for your support in my time of panic. The mw was just lovely and found the little heartbeat for me. She said straight away that she could hear it in he background but took a while to get a clear listen to it. I've decided I'm not getting a Doppler as I just would find it too hard to find the difference in the placenta and the baby Confused. But anyway she found it - phew! It did make me wonder if perhaps I have an anterior placenta as that might explain the lack of kicks so far, but it could equally be my extra padding Blush. We'll see in 2 weeks and 2 days at my 20 week scan.....

Ooooh, required for goodnight kisses for ds - will try to check back in later, mwah mwah xxx

dreamfeeder · 26/10/2011 20:27

hi,

really quick post- DD is improving
She has walked around Grin, played a little, eaten some tea and doesn't have a temp. DH was thinking A&E last night, we were so close to going... He was worried about all the arching back and screaming and clawing- he told me why today, glad I didn't know!! My dad has been wonderful with her. He stayed after DH was home so we could both go to bed. I even slept! Bearing in mind sleep has always been an issue for me, and I actually felt better when I gave up trying to nap after DD's birth, lying awake for 2 hours til she wanted more milk made me feel worse so managing to fall asleep is a great thing! and a sign of how exhausted I am already, uh oh I have a DD asleep in her cot. I am so relieved Grin Grin I really, really hope she has a good night- she needs to catch up on some sleep, I napped for longer than her today (and hour versus her 40 min)!!!

dizzy, that's really good there's not long til your next scan Grin

pomme we paid for packing. I was worried they were cowboys, they quoted so much below everyone else, but had moved our friends (the pg one with a toddler!) 7 weeks earlier, so we went with them. Was fantastic. For a 3 bed end of terrace was between £250 and £80 (they were the cheapies!!) for the packing. Hope you get to go when pg not with a newborn.

Work tomorrow, plus my first consultant appointment- don't know what to expect really.

Ooh, nearly forgot- TENS I do know. It a little device with pads you stick onto your body and it gives a tingling, pins-and-needles type feeling. It works by stimulating different nerve fibres to the pain-carrying ones which carry the signals more quickly and hopefully blocking pain signals at the spinal level (I can't actually remember which is which- it either stimulates c-delta or blocks signals travelling in c-delta fibres- bartlet might know). Don't use them in paeds so I'm out of practice, out of touch and have a rubbish memory!! Also, in the musculoskeletal setting I was using them ,we used them more for chronic pain- backs, arthritis etc, so a little different to maternity but same principle. Works fantastically for some, others feel no benefit. I loved it in labour- not sure how much it helped my pain, but the feeling of having something to do helped!! I missed it a lot in the hour they faffed around trying to get my epidural in!!!

jaggythistle · 26/10/2011 20:34

hi dizzy. i mostly talked about my trip on the no brooking ttc thread. it was the worst possible timing to get pregnant with a Wedding Abroad to attend you know. Grin

glad to hear lots of wee heartbeats being heard, brooking lots for further scans.

hope your DD is better soon dream, sounds awful. :(

apart from being too fat to be comfy and people always wanting to carry bags for me, i almost forgot i was pg some days while we were away.

travelling with your DH and DS, parents and sibling and various other extended family can be stressful. especially when going abroad to see yet more relatives! the wedding was nice though and DS was a wee star even though he missed his nap and had a bit of a meltdown before the reception. he certainly lasted longer than his mum who went to bed and left DH to hang out with the family. Blush

i didn't sleep well at all so am heading for bed now to hopefully catch up...zzz

scarletfingernail · 26/10/2011 22:10

Welcome back jaggy I bet you're relieved it's all over even though you had a good time.

dream fingers crossed here that you do not have a repeat of last night. 3 cheers for your Dad too, he sounds wonderful.

biscuits good to hear the midwives were supportive and you got seen today. I was also concerned about not being able to tell the difference between the placenta and the heartbeat. If I remember correctly the placenta is more of a "whoosh whoosh whoosh" and the heartbeat more "gallop gallop gallop" Have I got that the right way round? Confused

scarletfingernail · 26/10/2011 22:26

Almost forgot to tell you the sweetest thing. I was laying on my bed with DS reading him a story earlier on today and afterwards I was telling him about the baby living in my tummy. He put his face up to my tummy and shouted "hello baby, it's ***" and then gave my tummy a kiss. I nearly cried, he's just so cute.

Biscuitsandtea · 27/10/2011 07:09

Awww, Scarlet, that is just too cute! Smile

Dream I am so glad your dd is starting to show signs of improvement Smile. And very glad too that your Dad was able to come and help do you could get some sleep. You must all be exhausted. Is the rash gone now? Hope the improvement carried on and you all had a better night xxx

You're right, Scarlet, the placenta is more whooshy, but with the heartbeat, I remember ds's being a definite galloping sound, but this one sounds more like a faster normal heartbeat.

I do vaguely recall last time reading or being told that they either sound gallopy or like a train? Can't remember if it was a train (obv the galloping one stuck in my mind because that was what DS sounded like) but it was something like that. So I guess this one would sound more like a train - it's definitely a regular sound, more like a faster version of my heartbeat.

If I'm with the midwife and she's saying 'see, there's the placenta and there's the baby' then I'm nodding away and I can tell the difference but not sure I'd trust myself to make the distinction Confused.

I've never been any good at having any confidence in my own work though Smile

Dizzy, how are you doing? Hope you've recovered from your night in hospital. You never sleep well on a ward do you, and it must have been such a shock too! Did you even have any stuff with you?

Hope everyone else is ok.

Hawthers, when is your next scan?

jaggythistle · 27/10/2011 07:15

aw scarlet that is so sweet! DS just keeps wanting to 'see mummy's tummy' when baby is mentioned. then he studies it like Hmm

as he is a wee geek like us, he also wants to 'see lady's computer' which appears to mean have another scan!

yes i am very happy to be back. slept a bit better in my own bed. :) touch wood DS slept ok too. had to get him up early for the flight yesterday, i felt really bad waking him up!

Biscuitsandtea · 27/10/2011 07:24

Jaggy that's just so cute about DS Smile

I was wondering whether to take DS to our 20 week scan. I think it would be lovely for him to see it, but I think I would need someone else there with responsibility for him so that we could go in first and check everything was ok and then have him come in for a minute to see, I would hate for DH to have to leave with him if he was being wriggly! But then the other thing putting me off would be that we also have to see the consultant (or at least one of his / her minions) and all that malarky after the scan so that's a lot of time to ask someone else to entertain him somewhere as dull as a hospital! So I don't think we will Sad

jaggythistle · 27/10/2011 07:44

we've not really got anyone close to look after DS so he kind of has to come with us. comic with stickers, new wee car and box of snacks with chocolate buttons were all required for 12 week/booking in appointment!

Biscuitsandtea · 27/10/2011 07:49

Our appt is on one of his nursery days but were lucky that we live close ish to both sets of parents and my in laws both only work a few hours so they could help if we wanted. Also my dad works for himself so can be a bit flexible too. But the thing is we have the scan and then the consultant so we could be waiting ages.

jaggythistle · 27/10/2011 10:09

toddlers do have a patience limit eh! DS reached his at the airport yesterday. he was crying while we waited to get on the flight home and saying 'no queue, no queue!, go outside' i was worried all the other passengers were thinking he'd be like that on the plane and cursing...

he was ok though, it was one of some baby twin girls who were maybe 9 months old that hated the flight. DS was listening to them crying with fascination, so i told him he could blow her a kiss to make her feel better. he was well impressed as she actually did stop the first time he did it. Grin i told him her mummy and daddy would give her a cuddle and he cuddled his wee comforter and said 'cuddle baby'. aw. hope he's as interested in a wee screamer in his own house!

dreamfeeder · 27/10/2011 19:45

Hello,

scarlet that's really sweet of your ds. In fact, in my hormonal state i'd probably have cried!

I nearly got sent home from work within half an hour of getting there as i burst into tears at having left a still poorly and sobbing dd who wanted mummy not daddy. Plus i was puking, again. In fact I'm doing this on my phone in dd's room as if I go out she cries and won't go to sleep.... She's had 7 lots of the Baby Squits today, maybe a good job I stayed at work! generally getting better though.

Saw the consultant today, who is lovely. Spotted my green notes which have ' high risk' scrawled all over them- I presume just as its twins?! I've still not got them as I'm not officially booked in til my repeat bloods back and entered on computer. Still, I see consultant after a scan at 20, 24, 28, 30, 32, 34 and 36 weeks. She obviously talked about prem delivery and said if i did deliver at 30 weeks she'd hope to go for a normal birth, but if i manage to get to term a section may be a good option. The thing that puts me off a normal delivery is she said they would try and deliver twin 2 assisted breech if twin 1 was head down but it would be "more uncomfortable" than a normal head down delivery. As i thought a normal head down delivery was excruciating, that puts me off unless both heading right way!! Can wait til much later to decide which is good. Oh- and the consultant thought my bump was big even for twins at 15 weeks today, so said as I'm slight, if term, she thinks she'd lean heavily to section.

As I'm on phone, can't check rest properly but hello jaggy, we missed you!

Biscuitsandtea · 27/10/2011 21:14

Erm, quick question, are swollen ankles much to worry about in pg, especially when only 18-19 weeks? Or are they just another 'put up and shut up' symptom?

I vaguely remember being told it could be a sign of something or other?

scarletfingernail · 27/10/2011 22:35

I think it's a common symptom Biscuits but it might be a good idea to get your blood pressure checked.

dream so pleased to hear DD is on the mend at last.

Biscuitsandtea · 28/10/2011 06:02

Ah thanks Scarlet - they checked my BP and urine on Wed when I was dopplered and both fine, so I think it was just a day of doing too much.

Had a google of it and the NHS website says swollens ankles ate common but if they come on suddenly it could be pre eclampsia. It didn't come on suddenly though. Also it's a bit early for PE according to that site (20w plus). Will just keep an eye on it.

Frightened myself a teeny but (I am so neurotic Confused) as another symptom was pain under my rib cage which is another PE symptom, but I also remember having that with DS too and I think it is just everything expanding as your rib cage does have to open up a bit I think?

Anyhoooo, will keep my beady eyes on it all Smile

Dream hope your poor wee dd is continuing to improve, and at night as well as in the day. Hope you didn't have to stay in her room all night Smile xx

Hope everyone else is well xx

Biscuitsandtea · 28/10/2011 08:36

The trick or treaters had better hurry up - I've started on the chocolates.....

scarletfingernail · 28/10/2011 09:01

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Angry Angry Angry

Stupid doppler arrived this morning. The bloody thing doesn't work, is second hand and had parts missing!

After much faff eventually found out how you can actually speak to a person on the phone at Amazon and apparently when mine was sold on Monday night they were out of stock, so they used another seller who only sell re-conditioned ones. Well, thanks for telling me, thanks for still charging me full price and thanks for sending me one that doesn't actually work. Honestly, the thing even stinks of ultrasound gel. Gross.

Amazon are now selling them again so a brand new one will be arriving tomorrow. But I've had to purchase it again and won't get the refund on the old one until they receive it.

Angry
Biscuitsandtea · 28/10/2011 09:05

Oooooohhhh, grrrrrrrrrr [hangry]

That's awful treatment! And how frustrating that they still stick to the basic policy on refunds etc when it is totally their fault!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

musicalmrs · 28/10/2011 09:05

When do people actually come round and trick or treat? Is it on Monday? I've never lived in a kid-friendly area before, so am new to these things (and it never really happened where I grew up - the only trick or treaters we had were friends/family friends who then stayed the evening!).

Sounds like it's just a symptom of doing too much Biscuits. Thanks for bringing the symptom to my attention though; really need to read up on pre-eclampsia, as my mum had it when pregnant with my youngest brother. Wonder if it's more common if your mother had it..?

dream, how's DD doing today? Glad your consultant appointment went well! Talking about birth options already - how exciting (and slightly scary with the prospect of two!).

Biscuitsandtea · 28/10/2011 09:11

I'm guessing any time from tonight until Monday night would be fair game for trick or treating? I guess weekends are easiest and then some might come on the actual 31st, but that is the first day back after half term (well at least here) so I'm staying stocked up Smile

Don't know about PE and generics, but surely worth mentioning to the mw? How many weeks are you now Musical?

Biscuitsandtea · 28/10/2011 09:12

Genetics, not generics Blush
