hey y'all, quickly popping on - our daughter was born early morning on the 3rd. had a wonderfully uncomplicated home birth, with (apparently - depends whose perspective we're working from!) a very short first active part labour of about 6 hours, worked with gas & air, & delivered her in the birthing pool, with no tears, rips & damage to me. she was 8.7lbs. my boyfriend was the most amazing birth partner & support. our little girl is just fabulous, am in a complete cloud of love & happiness & new-mama fear of failing. will post better details in a bit here, & let you know her name on FB. hope everyone is well - haven't read through anything yet, much love to all xx

hadak · 05/11/2011 20:34

HUGE congrats Mama and Wow the birth sounds amazing. Glad to hear you and your daughter doing well.
Hope all other ladies are doing well and Voodoo and Sas OH are recovering.
I am feeling slightly more human today and have even managed some jobs around the house as well as a stock up shop at the supermarket.
Wishing everybody a relaxing Saturday evening.

juststarting · 05/11/2011 20:51

Congratulations Mama! And THANKS for the great birth story, its so reassuring to read that it goes so well for some people - and for the people its been less than ideal for, its nice to read you all coming back surviving it anyway!
Been having stomach cramps bad since the middle of last night, and a bit of an upset stomach. With the phobia, I spent the day scared witless I was getting a bug before suddently thinking "hang on - early sign of impending labour?" and now have got myself proper worked up about that possibility too! The baby has been feeling low and heavy today and a few period pain like feelings. But I am only 37 weeks today! I still have stuff to do! And we have no support here for my son! Spoke to my parents yesterday, they of the "we'll do whatever you need" a few months ago. Now they are "we are willing to come from the 18th". My due date is the 25th. Trouble is, we just have no support locally.
Anyway, I amy post repeatedly this evening and apologise if I do, I am trying to distract myself, cause I am pretty sure my biggest problem here is anxiety!
Just taken DS out to fireworks never the less. Felt a bit more in control being in the fresh air and amongst all those people going about their lives. Which is odd, not much of one for being around lots of people when I feel vulnerable.

Katiebeau · 05/11/2011 21:02

Hello. Congratulations Mama!! great news.

Voodoo and Sas. I hope your husbands recover quickly.

TMI alert. I'm bloody sick of loose bowels. 3 weeks now and stepped up a gear last couple of days. Bah.

Off to sniff out those Jam donuts. Grin

MooseyMoo · 05/11/2011 21:03

mama congratulations. Sounds like a lovely birth. Hope you are enjoying hugs with DD.

just I've had cramping on and off for a couple of days. Think it's baby engaging further as no other signs. Maybe you could pack your hospital bag or arrange stuff for home birth to keep anxiety at bay.

DD saw fireworks for first time today. Was just looking at neighbours and she kept saying oooooh, then babbling. Then suddenly ooooh nice. So cute.

Hope you are all enjoying fireworks night, ESP Cep.

Katiebeau · 05/11/2011 21:04

Terrys. Have a chair, do you like Jammy donuts??? DVD?

TerrysNo2 · 05/11/2011 21:14

Jammy donuts katie - who doesn't, but then they have to be good old fashioned proper ones with loads of sugar and sticky jam, not these fake ones they sell in the supermarkets these days. Although Krispy Kremes give them a good run for their money. I digress....

Just been to a fab local fireworks display and funfair (they spend £20,000 on fireworks Shock) - last time we went, 3 years ago, I went into labour with DS the next morning! Had more show today, jelly-like and streaked with a tiny bit of blood so who knows.

Bowels stepping up sounds lovely Wink and promising katie

Congrats to Mama - what a lovely birth story, and its nice to know you don't have to tear or have episiotomy with 8lb+ babies!

MrsA I look forward to hearing about your IM and Doula after the event.

Hello everyone else and sending labour vibes to anyone who needs them!

Hot, freshly made donuts from the sea side. Yummy. Oh I'm going to be months on weight watchers once this baby arrives!!!!

The Nov 2011 stork has rotten time keeping, some early, some late. Few on time.

Katiebeau · 05/11/2011 21:34

That was my excuse for a thread title by the way not a random sentence. Blush

neverinamillionyears · 05/11/2011 21:49

Evening all.

Congrats to Mama, very nice to hear your birth story.

Ive missed a few births so congrats to those I've missed. Sorry!

My favourite donuts are Canadas TIM HORTONS. yummy.

On a separate note, did anyone else see Harry on Strictly. Corrrr!

juststarting · 05/11/2011 21:59

Yes, getting more prepared can only help. Have got DS ito bed - god that boy has some crazy internal timing for 9.30pm. Why not 8! Why! Now DP is washing up and then is going to review my hospital bag and do what he can to finish it off - some things just cant go in till the last minute can they I guess. And its not in as bad a shape as I thought. Its about 80% there I think. Seems huge though. And I am sat here on my backside with the bednest we got of ebay in its bag infront of me and a packet of cleaning wipes on the sofa beside me. The two may or may not come together shortly.
And DS was 8lb7 and I only had a first degree tear which was really not a big deal at all.

TerrysNo2 · 05/11/2011 22:10

Oh katie the freshly made ones lathered in sugar (we get them at chessington) are awesome!!

I had an episiotomy with DS juststarting and I never knew if it was 1st, 2nd or 3rd degree, they didn't say!

Well my advice voodoo would be get a GP appointment for your OH just in case!! Mine has been allowed home tonight, phew. He won't be able to lift anything at all for like 6 weeks but I'm just relieved he's OK. Thanks everyone for well wishes.

Thoughts go out to you juststarting, hope it's just stress and not labour approaching! I can imagine how tough it is not having family to hand to help out.

Truffkin · 05/11/2011 22:23

Congratulations Mama sounds like a lovely birth and as others said, so great that you are unscathed! Hope you are enjoying snuggles with your girl. Well done to your brilliant boyfriend too, I'm certain from reading lots of birth accounts that a strong and supportive birth partner can make a difference to your birth experience.

voodoomunkee · 05/11/2011 22:31

Congrats Mama! Lovely news and great to hear about a stress free home birth!
Well it seems there aren't many of us left. Come on Nov babies!
Been to the pil's tonight with some fireworks for the dc's. Don't normally get them any but what with due date looming next week and dd's b-day on Thursday I thought we should make the effort just in case. Have decided I wont be having a sweep on Weds, it would just be my luck for it to work and dd2 to arrive on dd1's bday and she really really doesn't want that! I've explained she may not have a choice but not actively going to seek it! Am hoping to either get a referral or to go and have one at 41 weeks.
Ah well. I'm shattered and been hungry all day. Fell asleep on the settee and was out for 2 and a half hours and been even more tired since!
Now who's got them there doughnuts?!

Hils74 · 05/11/2011 22:32

Hi ladies, sorry for the delay but things have been a bit hectic here the last week!! :)

Archie Dylan was born last Friday, 28th Oct at 8.10am weighing 6lb 10oz, 2 weeks early. So this is my birth story...

I'd been having lower back pain and period type cramps for about a week beforehand. Then on Thursday I met OH for lunch but had to come home early as couldn't get comfy. Cramps were coming and going fairly irregular so put the TENS machine on for the afternoon, by 6pm they had gone so turned it off. Went to bed about 11pm and woke up at 1.30am with contractions coming every 10 mins, lasting 30 - 40 secs. I rang the hospital and they said to call back when they were 5 mins apart. So I went back to bed and put the TENS machine back on. By 4am they were coming every 5 mins, lasting about 1 min. So I rang the ospital again and they said to call back when they were 2-3 mins apart. I woke OH and had a cup of tea and he ran me a bath. About 5.30am I couldn't sit in the bath anymore so got out, was instantly sick on the bathroom floor (missed the toilet so OH had to clear it up!). I couldn't stand up or sit down so rang the hospital as the contractions were 2-3 mins apart, lasting over 2 mins and told them I was coming in. They said don't be offended if they sent me home again!!

We left home about 5.45am and I was sick in my handbag on the way!! Got to hospital about 6am, all the birthing rooms were full so we got put into a consulting room. The MW came to check how I was, took one look at me holding on to the bed with my legs shaking and decided to give me an examination. I asked if I was dilated as I couldn't cope with going home again, she said 'Yes, you are 9 and a half cms dilated'!! Grin

She asked if I wanted to push and I said yes! So 1 hr and 30 mins later my little boy came into the world!! So I did it with just gas & air, lying on my back with my legs in the air. My birth plan went right out of the window, so much for my active birth, with birthing pool etc... But as the MW said I'd already done all that at home!!

I have a second degree tear and some stitches which are obviously uncomfortable, but not bad considering.

We had some BF issues as Archie won't latch on properly, but were discharged anyway on Saturday, expressing and topping up with formula via a cup. However, the MW spotted he was slightly jaundice on Tuesday so we were referred up to the PAU at the hospital. They said his jaundice was mild, but that his cord was infected and would need to go on anti-biotics. So we were admitted and Archie had a canular put into his hand, I couldn't watch... Both the paediatrician and the consultant said we weren't feeding him enough, this was based on both the MW and HV's advice, which was making his jaundice worse and so he was lethargic, vicious circle! Then we got transferred into isolation in SCBU, even those nurses said he was being under-fed, so I am BF as much as I can using a shield as he still won't latch on properly, expressing when I can and topping up with formula via a bottle - which he loves! He hasn't been confused by switching between nipple and teat. So we are going to carry on doing this as this seems to be what suits him best, and as far as I am concerned that is all that matters!

So he is now getting the correct amount of food, he is more alert and waking himself up for feeds every 3 hours, which is a huge improvement on last week.

Anyway, I hope all the rest of the November babies arrive safely and sorry for the long post and lack of name check! Thanks

voodoomunkee · 05/11/2011 22:34

Xpost sas, glad your OH is home! Such a relief even though they aren't well, it just feels better them being here! My OH won't go to the gp's, in fairness his are rubbish. He's got meds to take as his stuff flares up and there's not a great deal of intervention he can have. He's much much better tonight, managing to eat which helps. Here's to your OH being on the mend.

juststarting · 05/11/2011 22:54

Hils, well done, sounds like its been a bit topsy turvey but you've got it sussed now.
So, emetophobe asking here, but how many people have managed NOT to be sick during labour?

TerrysNo2 · 05/11/2011 22:58

just I was sick when in labour with DS

OP posts:
Katiebeau · 05/11/2011 23:44

I was sick on labour too. Sorry Sad.

I am so tired. Why oh why can't I sleep???

Hills. Bloody well done on labouring so well at home. Fantastic. Re feeding sounds like Archie has a very dedicated Mummy doing both breast and bottle. Glad he's out of SCBU.

cookie9 · 06/11/2011 06:32

Wow a few more babies have arrived! Congrats hills and mama and thanks foresting your birth stories.

Hoping reflexology session and sweep help labour start here this week. All this stop and starting is getting me down.
