Oh and sassy they told my sister her baby was scanning at 9lbs at 39 weeks so she expected huge baby when delivered at 40+8 but my DN was only 7lbs 10oz!

sassy34264 · 12/10/2011 21:41

congrats moly bloody hell! i think if you are a size 4-6, chances of you pushing out a 10lb baby were probably quite remote! sorry it didnt go to plan and hope the infection clears up soon. x

pebble they guestimated jacob at 7lbs and isobel at 6lbs 6oz on the 12th aug. my waters broke the next day and they were 7lbs 6oz and 6lbs 10oz so they were nearly bang on but under for both. im thinking they are under for this one to. i was a size 10 before the pregnancies but i still weighed 11 stone. so i think if they take after me they are just heavy despite not measuring it. iyswim. take a look at my bump picture and see the size of it. im going to be shocked if its not a little crumper! Smile

Fleecy - Thank you so much for taking the time to write all that down - a brilliant account of your c section, so detailed, just what I needed. It sounds like it couldn't have gone any better for you, and I'm really coming round to the idea of it now. Obviously I'd still like a natural birth if at all possible (if the baby isn't breech) but have been quizzing friends on their experiences all day and now feel very well informed. Thanks for your tips too - no-one else has mentioned them today so definitely very useful.

BabC - Thank you for your info about turning - will be prepared for the pain now....sure it'll be worth it though, if it works.

BB3 - Good to hear what a lovely c section you had and that the feeding went so well, even withy twins - amazing!!

Sassy - I have major ice cream cravings now too after reading your posts - will have to treat myself to a few tubs before baby arrives.... :)

11am tomorrow and I'll know what's going on - will be taking my bags just in case they decide to do a c section immediately, although think it's unlikely especially as I've just found out that the labour ward is full - oh no!!

pinkpainter · 12/10/2011 21:52

Moly - Big Congratulations!! :)

Bumpsadaisie · 12/10/2011 22:55

Ooh congrats to everyone having babies - the boys are definitely catching up to the girls! Wonder if we'll end up with the textbook 52:48 ratio in the end?!

39 weeks today here. Come on baby! Head is well engaged and not as painful as it was with DD at the same point so I'm hoping it means everything down there is a bit more roomy this time round.

Hoping for waterbirth at the MLU but we shall see what transpires ! No birth plan save that I want the baby on my chest asap and to try the pool.

Hope I will know when it all kicks off - DD was induced so not a natural start.

Best of luck to all waiting and happy bonding and recovering to all whose babies are here Smile

MamaMaiasaura · 13/10/2011 06:54

Been awake since before 4, but stayed in bed. Pains every 10 minutes. Prob another long early labour, no show and no waters, tho waters never went on other pregs, and were broken by mw. Sorry not posted since last one about feeling crap. I'm literally laying relaxed and regular pains, can't be false labor surely?

sassy34264 · 13/10/2011 08:24

awen you had a sweep, so it sounds like its started. good luck. i think walking about makes it come on more and stairs seem to be used a lot- so might be a good idea to get up.

im sooooo stressed out this morning. i dont drink at all when im pregnant, but i swear if there would have been some coke in the house i would have poured myself a cognac! dd1 is on a trip today and had to be at school by 8am. started phoning for a taxi at 7am but got nowhere for 30 mins. god this town is small. in my last town there are about 5 taxi ranks that are 24 hours.
i was getting more and more worked up. plus im not too keen on the idea on putting 11 yr old dd in a taxi with a man i dont know. then im scrambling around the house trying to find cash. over £25 in the house yesterday could barely scrape £8 today -typical. and then while i was making a strong sugary tea, i noticed that jacob had a pair of massive scissors in his hands. he put the pointed bit in his mouth and as i moved towards him to get them he started to quicken up to get away. my heart was beating like mad. need serious words with either my mum or my dd1. prob dd1.

LittlePebble · 13/10/2011 08:33

Oh Sassy that sounds scary Sad I would be reaching for a drink too I think!

Awen good luck sounds like you're on your way Grin xx

40+4 today and still waiting.....Envy

MamaMaiasaura · 13/10/2011 08:53

I'm up, I meant I stayed in bed at 4 as didn't want to wake everyone and also to rest in-between, was up before 7. Still getting them but not increasing, may be in for another long latent phase

Ferino · 13/10/2011 08:53

Pink haven't back-checked all the posts, but wanted to give you a bit of info on my c-section last week. I'd planned a water labour, active birth etc, but the baby made decisions that led to induction.

Anyway, to cut a long story short I ended up needing a section but it had to be under general anaesthetic. Just wanted to say don't worry if this does happen to you. You wouldn't be able to have your partner in there with you, but you'd only be aware of this for a few minutes and you've other thingsto focus on. Whilst I was in recovery my DH was able to have skin to skin and give DD her first feed. DH tells me I appeared and started to make sense after about half an hour. Despite this deviation from our ideal birth plan, we don't feel that we have missed out on any bonding with our DD. BF after the first few hours was no problem, and we have EBF since then without difficulty.
Practically, stock up your freezer and be prepared to do nothing other than feed and get better for at least a week. Take any and all help offered and don't be too impatient in your recovery. It will be ok!

SconesForTea · 13/10/2011 09:24

It is a full-time job keeping up with this thread Grin

Congratulations Moly on thie birth of DS! Wow 10lb Shock Does he have a name?

sassy I'm quite jealous of you having a definite date to have your baby by. I do want another hb, but I think if I was offered an early induction I just may take it... Purely because I know from past experience that my insomnia will vanish as soon as DC is born (and yes, then I'll have a baby too look after but at least I'll be able to sleep between feeds). However there's no medical reason for me to be induced so I'll hang on in there.

My MW recommended sex and nipple-tweaking to induce labour but also admitted she doesn't think anything would really work Hmm

Thanks for birth stories PA and Fleecy

Good luck Awen hoping this is it for you today.

I didn't go back to bed with DD for a nap this morning, felt ok an hour ago, feel shattered now, and she'll wake up any minute Sad Oh I wish I could sleeeeeeeeeeep.

SconesForTea · 13/10/2011 09:24

38+5 so let's call it 39.

pinkpainter · 13/10/2011 09:37

Ferino - Thanks for the info on a c section under general, I hadn't even thought of that, just assumed it would be under epidural, so very useful to hear about that too. your account makes me reassured that BF should be ok - as that would be my main concern with it.

Off to pack my bags now and tidy the house just in case I don't come home today after my scan.....keep feeling my tummy and wondering whether the lump at the top is a head. Despite everything excited to see my baby in the scan. :)

Sassy - Poor you!! - Sounds like a nightmare morning!!

Awen - it's got to happen soon - surely!! Good luck!

sassy34264 · 13/10/2011 09:38

awen i have chloe who is 11 yrs and then 14month old twins- jacob and isobel.

told chloe to go to the office and let them know she was in school cos i was going to ring. so she is there. the scissors were them bloody massive type that dress cutters use! i could see him falling in his haste to get away and them going straight through his neck- it definately was a stop breathing, heart pumping few seconds. feeling calmer now.

my dp has the car and works away during the week, so im grounded all the time. i miss my car. when i stopped work we just decided to run it into the ground (it was an old car) and then not bother getting another cos of the cost. but i hate not having one.

glad you are upbeat about your birth fleecy its not great when you cant/didnt hsve the birth you wanted. but its definately best to not get down hearted about it. ive met lots of people who blame themselves and feel like they failed etc, but it cant be helped. chloes birth was one thing after another until an emergency c section and i had a good cry when they told me , but she was the most beautiful thing i'd ever seen. so i got over it.

sassy34264 · 13/10/2011 09:41

sorry i meant ferino not fleecy
god thats the 2nd time ive mixed people up! if you have the same start letter im hopeless. Smile

BB3 · 13/10/2011 10:42

pink good luck today, will be thinking of you.

moly WOWZERS!! 10lb, no wonder your poor little body couldn't quite push him out! Well done for getting through it and delivering him. Hope his infection is getting better and you are both doing ok. Did you decide on a name?

sassy gulp! Those moments don't even bare thinking about - glad he is ok and nothing bad happened - they do keep us on our toes hey! Think you might need more of that cake and ice cream you bought yesterday.

Awen how's it going? Any progress?

Edward any more movement today?

Quick question to second / third / fourth time mums - anyone suffered severe headaches post baby? I've had non stop headaches in my temple and blurred vision for past 10 days - put it down to tiredness at first but it's not clearing at all... Xx

BB3 · 13/10/2011 10:46

Jane - how annoying about bras!

bumps when my contractions started with twins in hospital - boy did I know it (was induced with ds) so sure you will be ok x

BB3 · 13/10/2011 10:49

pebble my mw said I wasn't imminent and had twins later that day... Fingers crossed same applies to you xxx

PenguinArmy · 13/10/2011 10:50

just to second what someone else said about getting their DH to skin to skin while waiting for you.

DS's breathing was a bit funny and he cleared up beautifully just being put under DHs T-shirt. It also helps keep them awake so you've got some time before the first feed (if your being stitched etc.). Some babies crash out once put down and sleep for a while and it's great to try feeding before this.

tbh DS has only been put down for nappy changing and while we ate our dinner, otherwise he's been held or we've laid together. He's really nesh and gets cold quickly.

PenguinArmy · 13/10/2011 10:51

and moly crikey at 10lbs especially with your small stature. Hope you get adequate debriefing to help you.

Do we have a post-natal chat thread yet, I think there are enough of us wanting to talk about poo and sore breasts now?

PenguinArmy · 13/10/2011 10:55

OK I started one here

Ferino · 13/10/2011 11:11

pink The BF thing has been no problem to us. I was a bit worried at first because her first two feeds were formula and then I was quite sore to try to manoeuvre into a position to feed but the midwife on the night shift was brilliant and set me up to feed her lying down. We didn't look back after that, though I did have to have her passed to me to feed until about day 6, once I'd set myself up with the pillows in bed or on a nice firm chair.
I've pumped a bit of milk over the last few days (medela swing pump, fyi - very good and gentle when I've been a bit tender) as well to try to help us deal with sharing sleep/night shifts and she's moving well between the bottle and breast. I'd have been put off this if I'd stuck strictly to the official advice - I'm basically saying it's very much a case of each to their own and see what works.
Hope all goes well for you!
I'll get going on the post-natal thread now for this stuff, thanks Penguin - see the rest of you there soon!

MamaMaiasaura · 13/10/2011 12:26

Still every 10 min or so. They kind of build up and then almost stop then build again, then stop for a bit. Sorry if that doesn't make any sense. Still no show and am managing pain ok. Really hope it gets more painful and frequent

BabCNesbitt · 13/10/2011 12:34

Jane, have a look on eBay for nursing bras - I got a brand new Panache one for about a tenner less than the price in Bravissimo (having already been measured and got one in there) and it was delivered pretty quickly.

Moly and Penguin, congrats on your babies, and Shock
to Moly - well done on not toppling over before going into labour!

Pink, hope it was good news today :)

sassy34264 · 13/10/2011 12:35

scones i know. it does feel good to know i'll definately have a new babba by next fri at least.

penguin two threads to keep up with!

bb3 ha you are funny! the cake and ice cream didnt see another day im afraid! hehehehe. the shop is beckoning!!!

im afraid there will be no nipple tweaking in this house. anyone within 1 metre of my very sensitive nipples will be duly punched in the face.Grin
